I was in the area for something else and decided to stop in since I was starving. I ended up ordering the kafta burger. It was pretty busy when I walked in and there were only two people working, so there was a bit of a wait. Despite that, the customer service was very kind and they even gave me something on the house for the wait, which I thought was kind of them. I honestly wasn't expecting much, but the burger really surprised me. It was juicy, delicious, and very flavorful. The only thing that caught me off guard was that the burger wasn't fully assembled, the lettuce was on the side. At first it seemed a little unusual, but it was actually thoughtful since it keeps the lettuce from getting soggy. Overall, the food felt like it was made with care. Very good and flavorful. I went in to make an order for the first time and it took very long for the Rep to come up to us then I asked about the Sweet potatoe fries and the grass fed beef and got 2 worded answers with no Smiles or anything ( kind of what are you doing here vibe). Small burger joint right next to the movie theater in alameda. Burgers were decently priced for how big they were (1/2 lb of meat!) and came with interesting flavors. The black and blue was so tasty with chunks of blue cheese layered over strips of thick cut bacon. I appreciate the way he cut our kids burger in half when he saw we had two kids with us. He also made sure their fries weren't too hot, which was thoughtful! You do have to wait a bit since their crew is small and they cook everything by hand. But it was definitely worth the wait! We just went for the first time, Haman the owner waited on us. I ordered the jalapeno burger my husband ordered fish tacos. Haman was friendly and very personable. I asked if I could please get the burger well done, no pink. He said yes however you want it. It was awesome large well done, thick patty it was beautifully constructed and tasted perfect. My husband's fish tacos were fresh grilled salmon, not breaded or fried. Haman explained that he only buys fresh fish that he personally likes to eat himself. You can get a 1/2 lb grass-fed beef burger on a nicely toasted sesame seed bun with no sides and a tall glass (not plastic!) of ice cold milk for under $17 before tip. First time checking this place out. There was only one family when we arrived for what most people would deem as early dinner but for family with young kids, 5:30 is our usual. But once it was around 6:20, more customers were in. The kid meals are definitely of good value. It also comes with a drink. All that for 10.95, that's good. May seem pricey but when you compare to the same at a fast food, I think it's decent. The Kobe style burgers were yummy. Lots of options to personalized it. And you can taste the quality in the meat, but don't think of it as your high end burger as it isn't when you're paying under $15 for it. One thing to be mindful about is that there was only one staff to manage the whole store throughout the time we were there. So if it gets busy, just be understanding. read more

I came here on a weekend around noon and there was no one inside. There was only one guy working who was both the cashier and the cook. He was very calm, friendly and nice. I got the grass fed beef burger with American cheese and caramelized onions. The burger was huge and absolutely delicious. The cheese was beautifully melted and the beef patty was juicy and really tender. The toppings tasted fresh and the sauce provided good flavor and balance to the burger. I liked that with each bite, I could taste all the toppings and let it be known that the beef was still the star of the burger. The buns were nicely toasted and held everything in the burger perfectly. I also ordered a side of regular fries which came in a generous portion. They were fresh cut and had a nice crispiness on the outside to softness on the inside. I just wish the fries were a little bit more crispier but they still tasted delicious. There weren't a lot of drink options. It was mostly Alameda sodas and as you could probably guess by the name, the sodas were made right here in Alameda. They might have had some beer but I wasn't interested in alcohol this early in the day. They did have 2 pitchers of ice cold water and cups near the door. This was a small location but it actually had plenty of seating inside and outside. They had 2 restrooms that both men and women could use. My favorite burger in Alameda so far! Tried two burgers during a weekday lunch, and both were excellent. Super fresh, packed with flavor, and nice and big--everything you want in a good burger. The Wagyu burger really stood out: crispy fried pickles and a punchy wasabi aioli made it fun, different, and seriously tasty. It's a one-person operation during the week (cashier and cook), so the wait can be a little longer, especially during lunch rush--but it's absolutely worth it. It sure did not take me long to return to Project Burger. That California Burger was so delicious that I returned earlier this evening to order two, one for me and one for my husband. I did not and could not wait until this Saturday for that California burger. I'm hooked to that burger. It is not a 1/3 lb. ground beef pattie, but a 1/2 lb. ground beef pattie. In case people don't know the difference between 1/3 lb. and 1/2 lb., a pound is 16 ounces, 1/2 lb. is 8 ounces and 1/3 lb. is 5-1/3 ounces. California Burger is not a fast food business. The burgers are freshly prepared. The wait for a food order can take more than 15 minutes. This visit is also an opportunity for me to get to know the owner. He's friendly and pleasant. I can say with no doubt I will return to try other items on the menu. The description of the turkey club sandwich has perked my interest. In the future when Park Street is having events, I know to pay Project Burger a visit for burger and fries. I know a shake would be perfect, but no can do for health reasons. This place is small and unassuming. Almost looks closed. It's rarely busy, might even be empty. There's usually just one guy in there doing it all. With all that said, it's hands down my favorite burger on the island. TRY THIS PLACE OUT. The flavors of his burgers are amazing. Perfect char on the burger, juicy, and cook exactly how you ask. I don't like any pink in my burger and he prepared it perfectly. He'll bring it to your table and pick up the trays when you're done. He's a nice guy and puts a lot of love into his food. Someone in another review said he even puts parchment or wax paper between the patty and bottom bun in to go orders so the bun doesn't get soggy. this is a beautiful and thoughtful touch. I know it's easy to think Scolaris or Nations but Project Burger is really THE ONE. They even serve local Alameda soda flavors. I suggest the black cherry. I made an interesting discovery the other day, "Project Burger" makes the best cheeseburger in town! Probably one of best I have had in a long time. Project Burger is located next to the Alameda Movie Theatre on Central Avenue. It wasn't too busy, so I went in and decided to order a cheeseburger and fries to-go. I actually ordered: - Grass-Fed Beef Burger, Medium Rare, w/ American Cheese & Caramelized Onions. - Side of Hand-Cut Fries I was really impressed by the presentation of my cheeseburger in a to-go box. They separate the hot and the cold. It's not a new idea, McDonald's did it with the McDLT. My doing this, it helps to preserve the freshness of the lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Also, it keeps the hot parts hot. Now, a hamburger bun has two parts.....the crown on top and the heel on the bottom. When you open your hamburger, the buns should be toasted golden brown. The surfaces (aka the edges) should be caramelized and hard. The clever thing they do is place parchment paper between the hot beef patty and the heel of the bun. This prevents the bun from getting soggy, and perhaps coming apart in your hands when you try to eat the burger. How did it taste? That cheeseburger was juicy and delicious. The melted blanket of cheese helped to seal in the juices of the meat. The caramelized onions were welded to the cheese. When you grill onions, it brings out a sweetness that goes well with a hamburger. So, the veggie dressings are on the side, you dress the burger the way you want. I loaded mine up with pickles and the three tomato slices. That was a heavy cheeseburger, and it was very filling. I didn't have to order the fries. But they were crispy and fresh. Okay, that was a great cheeseburger! I will go back for more. BTW- Fun Fact: The hamburger is from Germany, but the cheeseburger was invented in California. read more

Comes with a house sauce, which is tasty. - Crispy chicken sandwich: this was better than I was expecting. The spicy house sauce was flavorful and added to the meal. Rather than one large piece of chicken, this was more like chicken tenders in a sandwich. The pickles, radish, spinach, and jalapeños also added to the flavor. My family and i went here for a New Year's Eve lunch. We ordered 2 California burgers and our two small children shared a grilled cheese and fry. My fiancé asked if i wanted to order my own fry, i said no because i would only eat a couple. He also ordered a side salad. The owner, who was also the person who took our order, was very polite and answered any of the questions we had about the menu. Later when he brought out the food, he brought out a big salad with two forks. Also put fry's on my plate and said "you mentioned you only wanted a few fries so i put a couple on there" and i thought that was so thoughtful. He checked on us and asked us if we needed anything throughout the time we were there. He even wrapped my son's grilled cheese when we were leaving so he could take it to go. He was very engaging and just very family friendly. The burger itself was very very good. And it was only 12.95... I've def paid way more for a shittier burger. The burger toppings were fresh and the patty was juicy. A truly hearty burger. I loved that the toppings for my takeout came on the side so that my bread didn't get soggy. Wow. I am amazed. Today is my first time eating here. I mourned the loss of burgermeister for so long I didn't want to give this place a try. But I'm glad I did. Everything was top-notch. Burger was fresh, juicy, and cooked to perfection. Salad was fantastic. There's only one salad dressing, the owner called it a tahini dressing, and it was amazing. A little on the spicy side. And let me tell you, if you have a hankering for french fries, this is the place to come. What they have done with fries is exactly what so many other places that profess to serve fresh cut fries failed to do. This place makes out of this world french fries.
