I'm gluten free, before I sat down at a table with a large group I was meeting up with, I made sure by asking if there was any gluten free options. Two men said, "yes, we can make most everything gluten free except a few items that are fried in wheat batter in advance." Once I sat, I viewed the menu. I really like entrées that resemble Pad Thai or Kung Pao with rice with shrimp as the protein. I chose something close to that but was told I couldn't because they could not make gluten free. Our male waitress said I could order vegan option and add shrimp so I did. I was charged $9 for the shrimp. Because I was with a large group I had to pay the customary 18% gratitude. MY BILL WAS $34.16 FOR JUST ME! OUCH! I can eat elsewhere for 2! Asian is tops for me. I am looking at my receipts, yes, I save as I budget. The price including the shrimp and the tip below are a few that I eat at frequently that I'd give a 4 to 5 star rating: Ta Ra Rin Thai Cuisine $20 Ubon Thai $15 Kim Asian Cuisine $19 Marco Polo in Salem $19 ~ Marco Polo is my favorite. They have a gluten-free menu and put gluten-free food on round plates, whereas gluten foods they put on square plates. I saw photos of the food here through my friend's social media, so I told myself to stop by whenever I was in Eugene. While the place looks super chic and modern, the food does not compare. If you've ever been to HK cafe in Portland (and like it), it's not worth your time to try this place. I ordered the shu mai and the shrimp rice noodle rolls. The shrimp rice noodle rolls were actually pretty good but had more noodle than shrimp ratio. I figured since shumais are considered a staple of dim sum, they would be amazing... but they were small, very dry and lacked a lot of flavor. Went in a Tuesday night to try out this new restaurant. For four people, we were adequately full with our order of Singapore style fried vermicelli, salt and pepper pork spare ribs, Mongolian beef, and vegetable fried rice. Overall about $30 per couple, including tip. Service tonight was a bit choppy. Our hostess seated us immediately, but no one took our drink order until one of the employees dressed in a suit asked us to relocate tables because of a large event with local politicians and the Eugene mayor were in the dining section near ours. Even then, I had to mention that we hadn't been asked for drinks. So after that, service improved slightly, but we didn't have one specific waitress. I blame this on the event that must have occupied all of the staff. Menu items were quite pricey but we all split the dishes family style. Dishes came out quickly after our order was placed. They offered complimentary white rice for our food which I thought was nice. All of the dishes ordered were delicious, the Mongolian beef dish size was smaller than the other three. Hope the service is improved after they become more established and staff more experienced. Would return to try dim sum since there's no other place in Eugene for dim sum. Would like to see more affordable prices since you can get comparable food at other Chinese restaurants like Yi Shen for much cheaper. read more

I knew I was in for a treat when I saw so many Chinese people eating here. They have excellent Peking Duck. I grew up eating Peking Duck almost weekly in Honolulu. It was my favorite dish. When I moved here you could not find it or it was off in some way. This Duck is very close to what I had. The shumai was also fantastic. They were quite large with big pieces of shrimp. I came here the day before we are scheduled to be liberated from Covid restrictions. As far as I could tell masks were not required. The tables were spaced out nicely, not too crowded at all. When I came in there was not very many other people despite it being dinner time. The service was slow at first. I had to find someone to tell them I was ready to order. Once I placed my order the food came out rather quickly. The steamed pork buns were great. I was not in the mood for something spicy today so I ordered Kung Pow chicken and asked them not to make it spicy. It was excellent, as long as you order it knowing that you don't want to be spicy the Kung pow chicken is great. The dim sum they serve here is delicious. Skip the rice noodle rolls, because the noodle part is slimy. However, their dumplings are amazing, and they also have wonderful egg tarts, which are not easily found most places. Plus, they also have great soups-like egg flower and hot and sour. Make sure to go to their website to study the menu before you go, because they have many things on their menu, and when I mean many things, I mean many things. Unlike some Asian restaurants, this restaurant has a huge dim sum section, which is hard to find elsewhere. For some reason, some people find this restaurant intimidating. It's not. I don't think I've ever had such poor quality food. We ordered green beans and had tofu added. The beans were overcooked, limp and tasteless; the tofu, mounds of mush--never had tofu prepared so poorly. We also ordered lettuce wraps, and while the "best" of the three dishes we ordered, it was largely flavorless, with salty and a bit of ginger being the predominant tastes. It was not the flavor of Mongolian beef I have ever had and it was NOT a good change! We are visiting Eugene from Seattle and joined some friends at this restaurant for a birthday celebration. My partner and I had our own check at a separate table but joined with our other three friends who had one check for the three of them. The food was fine, nothing great but OK and then we got the bill which broke down the tip selections and we chose 18%. We then realized that the restaurant already added 18% due to us being a "large party". We explained it was just the two of us and that we wanted them to deduct 18% so we weren't giving them a 36% tip. They refused and I was so angry, we crossed out the extra 18% and hopefully we were not charged. what a terrible way to treat customers. read more

Although some of the food was good, I am just not certain that this would be the top of my list of places to go. I guess I am really spoiled with places in Seattle such as the House of Hong that do the traditional carts and lots of them, and bring them around and you get to choose your food. That's part of the fun of the whole Dim Sum experience at least for me. I could be off, and that's simply a matter of my own tastes. I am not a large fan of the menu ordering which is how this is done here at this restaurant. I simply may have my expectations set to high being that this is here in Eugene. The place is certainly fresh and new, clean and well kept, at least the time that I was there. This spot is still open during the pandemic, offering take out orders. My family and I miss getting dim sum so this helped to appease that craving. We got the dim sum staples of shu mai, ha gao, shrimp noodle, and egg tarts. The dumplings were bigger than what I remember them to be before, which was a nice surprise. It was all super tasty. Be sure to give enough time for your order because there's going to be a wait time. Our order was about 15-20 minutes to make. My only draw back was that the egg tart pastry was super crumbly and didn't hold it's shape well, maybe the crust was different or on the over cooked side. Otherwise, everything was delicious. We love this place and it is out go-to for Chinese food in Eugene. My favorite is their House Special Noodle. My family and friends went here last fall for dinner after a memorial service on the spur of the moment. The place wasccrowded, but they set up a long banquet table for us in their back room. The service was not terrible. Nice enough guy. I ordered the friend squid, BBQ baked buns, and XO Radish Patty. The dim sum (raddish Patty) I was excited about... And it ruined my whole meal. It was cooked at too low a temperature, in the wrong viscosity oil. It was inedible, and was left on table after first two bites. Squid was mediocre.... Consisting of 80% batter, 15% squid, 5% oil. No season love on it. The baked buns were also a let down. 90% bread, 7% filling, 3% honey. I'm an easy sell on many foods. But gelatinous, over-the-top oily paste (radish Patty) needs to at least not destroy your palate with grease before your appetizer comes out. (Squid was appetizer. Arrived last.) It looked ok though. For those reading that may think, "well this guy just doesn't know what he ordered... Or how it is done"... Please see my dim sum reviews and check ins throughout Los Angeles, The Bay Area, NYC, Portland, etc. The last thing I will mention: I was super honest with my waiter when he asked how things were.
