Honestly, thank god for authentic Chinese food. This is the best place you go to in Eugene for delicious handmade dumplings and noodles. Came in mid-afternoon on the weekend and the place was busy. We were seated immediately and received our food ~10 mins after ordering. We ordered the spicy and sour beef noodle soup, veggie dumplings, and scallion pancakes. There is an option to adjust the spice and numbing levels to your dishes. The food came out steaming. The veggie dumplings were flavorful and the wrapping was just thick enough to make 10-dumplings a hearty meal. The taste profile is similar to what you'd find in Northern China, and there is chili oil/vinegar/soy sauce at the table for you to make your own sauce. Scallion pancakes were deep-fried and on the thin side. They were more oily than the homemade ones I'm used to, but the crunch and flavor on them were nice. The sour and spicy beef noodle soup (opted spicy and numbing) was yummy. You can tell the noodles were handmade and they had a good bite to them. The beef was tender, the bok choy was a nice refreshing balance to the bold flavors of the dish, and the tea egg was a nice addition. The soup was quite sodium-heavy and oily, but the flavor was quite authentic and still yummy with the numbing spice kicking in towards the end. Right across the street was a parking lot that offered 3 hours free parking for customers. The food: House Noodle with Chopped Pork - my favorite dish. Their noodles are made in-house so the chew on them are great. Good flavors, salt level, and a ton of meat. Pork, Shrimp, & Chive Dumplings - big on filling, no skimping on shrimp. Scallion Pancakes - very thin and crispy. A bit on the greasy side but tasty. Braised Beef Noodle soup - same awesome in-house noodles with bits of beef, an egg, boy choy, and a good amount of bean sprouts. I'm used to these soups being packed with five spice and other ingredients - this one is pretty mildly flavored. Had a road trip from LA to Seattle,I passed by this beautiful little town name Eugene today and decided to try this Chinese restaurant. It's a place that specializes in wheaten food and noodles. Looking at the menu, I noticed a wide variety of options with complex preparation methods. For example, the dough used for regular dumplings is completely different from the dough used for shrimp dumplings (har gow). Shrimp dumplings require wheat starch (cheng mian), which must be kneaded and shaped with water around 70°C (158°F) to form properly. The entire process is incredibly labor-intensive and truly tests the chef's skill level. Ambiance & Environment: [[HIGHLIGHT]]You can tell this restaurant has been open for a long time, yet it remains very clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is a glass-enclosed prep area where you can watch the staff making the dough and noodles from scratch, which perfectly showcases their specialty.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, I was seated right next to the back door. Since customers have to use this door to access the restrooms, people were constantly walking in and out. About five minutes after all my food arrived, while I was right in the middle of eating, a server just dropped the bill on my table. I was completely baffled. It wasn't until I pointed out that I still needed rice that they finally took the bill back. Once I finished my meal, I asked for the check. The server gave absolutely no response. Seeing a long line of people waiting outside, I proactively asked a second time because I didn't want to hold up their business. I really like Mapo Tofu... and make it at home often. But occasionally when I get lazy, I will eat it at a restaurant. First time for Mapo at Jade Dumpling, and it was good! Instead they provide a notepad and a handwritten sign to put your name down. In the 15 minutes we stood around waiting for some shred of customer service we witnessed one guy walk in, grab a menu then was followed by his wife. When my wife confronted this guy and his wife she stated "they had reservations". THIS PLACE DOES NOT TAKE RESERVATIONS AND THERE WAS NO ONE TO STEP IN FOR THE 6 OTHER PARTIES BEFORE THIS COUPLE that had "RESERVATIONS". Place wasn't too busy but after about 10 minutes we asked how long the wait would be as the waitlist on Yelp said 5 minutes. We were told rudely that "we don't use that". While we were waiting, we saw the kitchen right in front of us, one of the cooks pulled out a bag of frozen dumplings that had "vegetable" printed on it and dropped them into a fryer. As excited I was to eat the food, I honestly thought the food was ok. The biggest disappointment was the dan dan noodles. It lacked flavor. The chili oil was lightly drizzled so all I really ate was the noodles and minced pork. The chicken with chili was ok but wasn't crispy. I rarely leave negative reviews, but the service we experienced today was honestly frustrating and disappointing. We came in before the rush -- the restaurant was about 80% empty -- and politely asked for a booth. The male server immediately refused, saying booths were only for parties of six. That alone felt unnecessary given how empty the place was, but fine, we moved on. Then things just kept getting worse. There were only two of us, and we ordered multiple dishes including a noodle soup. I asked for an extra bowl so we could share, and he brought out a tiny rice bowl. I clarified and asked for a proper bowl suitable for soup -- he flat-out refused and said that was the only type they had. That made no sense. I had to ask another server for the THIRD time, and she brought the correct noodle bowl right away. So clearly, it wasn't "the only bowl" available -- it was just poor service and unwillingness to help. To top it off, we also ordered a side of rice... which he completely forgot. How hard is it to accommodate simple, reasonable requests when the restaurant isn't even busy? The food might be fine, but the service alone makes me not want to come back. read more

Today everything was quite lacking in flavor and almost felt like I was just eating dumpling skin/noodle without flavor. The honey walnut shrimp was definitely the best item overall as the shrimp were huge and the batter was tasty, but it had way too much sauce. The fried noodles were especially lacking, the meat all tasting bland and the noodles were unflavored and almost soggy. They also got cold almost instantly. The soup dumpling has a lot of soup but they don't have flavor in the soup. The beef dumplings were ok but just lacking too. The pan fried pork dumplings had a good crust, good skin, but again the inside had no taste.
