Spice Grill is one of the shining gems of Germantown, MD! This family-run business makes the finest Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi food in the Maryland area. I'm just finishing a glorious meal of chicken saag with naan that is so good you'd think you were being served at the owner's dining room at home. I've eaten many of their varied dishes -- chicken tiki masala, rogan josh, karahi gosht, lamb biryani -- and it's the best food of its kind you will find in this area. And it's mulligatawny soup is the best you'll ever have. The owners are very kind and accommodating and run a clean and efficient operation. I give Spice Grill my highest recommendation. Delicious Indian Food. We never even knew this restaurant was here tucked away in Germantown Maryland next to Outback Steakhouse. The owner is very nice and welcomes you warmly into his restaurant. The food his wife is prepared by his wife daily The food taste like genuine home cooking, and I highly recommend that you try this place. The $34 family meal is pleanty of food for 2 people with a nice selection of several items and shouldn't be missed. The owners are accommodating. Since I don't eat lamb he willingly substituted Butter Chicken and I was very appreciative. You must try this place. Food is a little on the spicy side so if you like your food mild please ask for that in advance. Carpet, paint & tables look new, but the restaurant is otherwise no atmosphere. We hope the restaurant will go a little bit further with their decorating in the future. A mural painted on one wall & some color would be nice. -Just a suggestion. My go Indian place is closed for lunch due to the virus so I thought I give the spice grill a try. I had the chicken madras which had some kick to it but fairly mild compared to most Indian. The people were very nice in the store and my take out was ready when I got there as promised. The serving size was generous. The chicken was very tasty. The garlic naan was a bit of a let down. Very dense not flaky, the garlic really wasn't present. But that was my only issue. My niece had vegetable biryani and really liked it. Will go again. read more

I had food delivered and it was my first time trying out Spice Grill. The food was very good for the most part and the portions were large. We definitely had a lot of leftovers which I like. The butter chicken was a bit on the sweet vs spice side. I like it a tad spicer but it was still good. I tried the mixed vegetable pakora and found it to be too breaded for my taste. The saag paneer and samosas were delicious. I'd definitely order from here again and after covid19 visit their dining space for the buffet service. read more

It is a tiny restaurant and the way it's set up I don't like dinning in because it's very cold every time someone opens the door. I can't stop myself from eating their delicious chicken pakora's. Spice Grill is AMAZING. I've been a frequent visitor since this location opened (I live down the street but would most definitely travel for this food). I've also gotten my mom addicted to their food! They have an awesome lunch buffet EVERY day of the week for only $9.99 all you can eat! It doesn't get much better than that, if you ask me. I've mainly gone for the lunch buffet but have gotten carry out a few times. The lunch buffet consists of a variety of different options: tandoori chicken, curry chicken, butter chicken, goat (omg - amazing!), AMAZING basmati rice, spinach, veggies, rice pudding, and a bunch of other options that I'm forgetting. The times I've gotten carry out, I've gotten the goat. Naan is included in every order, buffet or not. OH- you can also get the buffet to go...how cool is that? I also get the Onion Kulcha every time- it's a must! The owner, Peter, is fabulous. He's a very active owner and makes sure that he says hello during your visit. I love this place! The people are so friendly and the food is so good- they never fail to impress me. It's right near the Lancaster Dutch Market in Germantown. They are happy to walk you through their many selections and they also have some great combo dishes. I had the chicken madras and I thought it was great. Try the Taj Majal beer. It is excellent with their spicier suggestions. It's quaint, clean and decorated nicely. A great experience for me. I think the owner/chef Bir used to be head chef for some high level political muckity- mucks so he is frequently experimenting and coming up with great stuff. My parents were visiting, so I wanted to take them to try a new indian place. Yelp suggested spice grill when we were in the area and off we went. The restaurant is located in a strip mall. Walked in and though the place seemed empty, we were greeted warmly by the owner and server. We ordered he family dinner for two, the chicken 65, the lamb Tikka masala and garlic naan and Roti. As part of the family dinner, for starters we got the vegetable pakora, which was quite nice and fresh, the lentil soup, which was also decent. The chicken 65 was also nice but a little soggy. It's supposed to be crispy. We also got the kabab platter, and the shrimp tandoori was too salty. The chicken noorani kabab was perhaps the saving grace. Now to the main course. As part of the family dinner we got the mixed vegetable, which was horrible, Dal Makhani which was sweet(yuck), and the lamb curry which was probably the only dish which lived up to the yelp reviews, though it was in the oily side. The lamb Tikka masala was more like a lamb jalfrezi, in that it was an onion and tomato based curry, with nary a flavor of Tikka masala. Overall though, I would say it tasted decent, but nothing over the top. Of the breads, the garlic naan was the best as it was fresh out of the oven and really tender and flavorful. Overall I had a "meh" time at spice grill and I can clearly say that curry place (further down wisteria drive) is much better. I hope they decide to revamp their menu sometime soon. read more

If i'm not mistaken, the owners used to run the India Garden in Rockville before the lease expired, then opened the Spice Grill farther north. It's been a few years, and only today did I make the trek up there to try the food. The restaurant is smaller in size and so the buffet is smaller as a result--not a problem though! I tried a good variety of food there, from the tandoori chicken, butter chicken, and some goat curry to the vegetable dishes. The vegetable dishes had just the hint of 'heat' to it, meaning I could taste the spices more than a burn. good! the way it should be. The tandoori chicken had a little heat as well, the same delicate addition. The rice had a nice flavor as well. but the goat curry, which is goat meat on bone...whooever cuts it up does it well. Too often, getting goat curry is a game of trying to NOT get a piece that's mostly bone or gristle. here, I could scoop it up and not worry, there was enough meat on each section to where I didn't feel cheated. The chai wasn't spiced, but it wasn't mere tea either. Some places spice it up, etc., and i like that. But this was just fine the way it was. Anyhow, I went to pay and they rang me up for only 1 buffet plus the drinks. (I brought my young son but he only had a little on his plate.) The buffet price was really reasonable. The hostess was also very gracious and soothing. I came from Silver Spring all the way up there to sample the food and it was well worth the drive. One other note: the owner was around, he didn't recognize me which was great because I could savor the food and decide for myself if he and the cooks kept up the same level of quality I had been used to when he had a restaurant in Rockville. The first time I went, the food was very delicious. I had the shahi paneer and the lamb curry. The meat was well-seasoned and soft. The rice and breads are very good. The 2nd time, i got the Shahi Paneer again; this time, the cheese was not paneer. Instead, they provided shredded cheese...yes, shedded cheese drowning in the tomato cream sauce. If you don't have paneer, just say so. I went back a third time, the food was still tasty, but my dining companions and I all got sick by the end of the night. This is the most flavorful Indian food we've ever eaten! We had three different meals and they were all delicious. The Mixed Vegetable Curry was very fresh (you could tell it was made from fresh vegetables). The Chicken Karahi was fantastic - wonderful flavors! What a cute little restaurant, it is casual with pretty and simple decorations. I love the red themed decor, especially the floor. We ordered carry out and the host/cashier was extremely patient as I was deciding on what to order for my family. Starters --Vegetarian samosas: Huge samosas, but they didn't have much flavor to them. Entrees --Curry chicken: This dish was tasty, it was full of the yellow curry flavor and spice. It did have me sweating a little. --Chicken madras: I extremely enjoyed this dish, although instead of asking for medium spicy I wish I just went full on spice. I loved the mix of tomatoes and coconut milk in curry. It was sweet, but not too sweet like chicken tikka masala can be sometimes. I do not usually have Indian food often and I love trying different dishes besides the usual, butter chicken and chicken masala. I'd highly recommend! Sides --Cucumber raita: I have never had raita before but I thought I'd give it a try and it was extremely light. I dipped my nan in it, but it was nothing special plus my sister says she's had better raita before. The portions were a huge, I'd say for some people it could last two meals. Since Jane & I were going nowhere Easter Sunday, we decided to get some Lamb Curry from the Spice Grill to go Saturday noon. We left there with the tantalizing smell of the Lamb and the Bread (I forget which bread it was). And since we don't eat large servings, there was enough for us plus enough left for one more meal. Letting the Lamb sit in the Fridge until Sunday evening sure didn't hurt it. I re-heated it in a small pot, and cut the bread into quarters, which fit nicely in our toaster. And I nuked the rice (a little water keeps it from drying out). As the Lamb warmed, it's scent warmed the small apartment, and the bread toasted nicely. The Lamb was SO tender and full of flavor! The first bite made my taste buds "dance" as I slowly chewed the tender meat and dipped the bread in the sauce. Even though it was take-out and eaten the next day, it was still a meal to enjoy, and relish. The Lamb, bread and rice definitely made for a delicious meal. read more

Ordered chicken biriyani for a catering. It was absolutely horrible. There were lumps of rice all over. The biriyani had no masala, no spice, absolute horrible. If it wasn't for the time, I would have taken the tray back. What irritates me the most is that, I even ordered a small biriyani to try just couple days ago before I ordered a bigger order.
