Wow - this is how I want to start my review. What a great experience overall. Kipp took his time explaining the options and difference in carpeting when we were at their showroom. We took home a few samples and decided on what we wanted. We then scheduled a time for Kipp to come by and do a formal measurement and quote. No pressure - no gimmicks. Kipp knows his stuff about flooring. We then arranged to have the carpet installed. They worked around our schedule to set up the install. We moved many of the little things but the crew that did the installation handled the big furniture items and were very careful. The installation crew that Spencer Flooring uses were professional, knew their craft and were very polite. They did a nice job of cleaning up also. Ruben & John finishes installation of of luxury vinyl flooring and bae board today and we couldn't be happier with the quality of workmanship, products and professionalism from start to finish of our flooring project! Fantastic showroom with more flooring flavors than you could ever want (seriously... it was a harder decision than I ever thought it would be). No pressure consultation (I mean it! I can't convey how pleased we are to select Kipp and his team for replacing all the floorings in our house with high-quality laminate flooring that looks like hardwood for our two-story house in Dublin. My wife searched for the right company online and found Spencer flooring. We went to their shop and we met with professional staff who lent us several samples to try at home. Kipp then came and did all the measurements and showed us the exact material, labor, and cost involved as well as payment terms. He also warned us that the upper story had uneven flooring under the carpet which may require fixing the floor before laying the flooring. He was very clear that they will start on Monday and finish by Friday unless there is extra work under the floor of the upper story. That exactly what happened. When the carpets were ripped, we found that the floor was heavily uneven upstairs. Kipp came in, reviewed the situation and showed to us the exact problem. He arranged the right guy who was certified in flooring and got that fixed before laying the flooring. The workers that came were all very professional and respectful. They got the job done and it only delayed the project by two days. They were done by next Tuesday. The job included laying the flooring on the stairs as well as inlays with outer tules (which was already there). The finish is just impeccable. This has been more than two years back and we all love our flooring. I am glad that we chose Spencer Flooring and highly recommend for anyone looking to have similar work done. We had a really good experience with Spencer Flooring. Kipp was fantastic to work with and help us choose a great floor replacement. He gave us SO many great options and all were excellent. He has a really good eye and we are super happy with how our floors turned out. Would've given 5 stars except for a couple of little things that end up making the difference between 4 & 5. They didn't clean up 100% and we stepped on a couple of nails after, base boards were put on crooked (Kipp was fantastic though and addressed it and got fixed ASAP) and they didn't bring all the right tools the first day. The crew lead didn't bring a grinder to get all the adhesive off the concrete slab when replacing tile which put them behind schedule. First off I would like to say that after all the positive reviews I was skeptical to think that this place would hold up to all the expectations set. BOY I WAS WRONG!!!! Susan was amazing from start to finish! The customer service level was superb. She made us feel like family rather than just the client. Our daily emails and phone calls with my crazy questions and worrying about floor choices and paint color, she was definitely beyond helpful. Scott definitely made sure he heard all my questions and gave amazing suggestions on what would be the best for what we had been planning. Kip's estimate visit was truly one all other competitors need to beat. From start to finish we had picked what the best value and best design for our laminate and carpet remodel. The 15-20 minutes it took for him to measure and layout on his computer was by far truly surprising to see the home and go through selections of laminate and carpet. Derrick and his crew put in so much time and hard work in all they do and really take pride in the job they do. It was really cool to watch the interaction and the bonding of Derrick and his crew. They worked more as a family than co-workers, teasing each other and listening to them laugh really seemed to make their day go by and produce great work. After all the paint was done in the home Justin and his crew came in to lay our laminate and new carpet. Everyday they worked hard and efficiently as we were there watching every step of the process and waited in anticipation for our awesome finished outcome. We ended up having a hiccup on our stair and the laminate not holding and Justin was out promptly to survey the problem and back the following correcting the problem. All in all this company has far succeeded my expectations and if you are looking for a company to walk you through your next project from start to finish Spencer's Flooring and Paint is definitely who you want to go with. If you have a DIY project this is one place to avoid. First they didn't provide professional guidance on the flooring type we required even when given details of your project. You order/paid for flooring product for your entire house and come to find there will be installation issues. You hire them as professionals to do part of the job and you get a crew unprepared for the job. You get delays to reschedule and get the right materials. They finally do the job. There are issues with that job. They delay and claim ignorance when we try to schedule an appointment so they can complete the job. I was very very disappointed with their so called professional business. Bad customer service and do not backup their product. I would not use them again. read more

We didn't purchase our hardwood flooring from Spencer Floor Covering. We did, however, hire Spencer to install the floor. This was no small job. We have a large house and we ordered hardwood for most of the floor on both stories. When the installer recommended by the place where we bought the hardwood came to the house they were very professional. And they were very specific. "We put in the hardwood. Furniture moving is not part of your installation so you'd better hire movers - or you can pay us couple of hundred more per room for that service. We don't put in carpet so, no, we won't take the unworn carpet we remove from your bedroom and install it on your stairs. You'll have to hire someone else to do that. Just so we're clear, we will remove your edging so we can put in the hardwood and we'll put it back but it is up to you to putty in the nail holes." Ken from Spencer Floor Covering came out and his quote was a little more ... just a little. But he said they would move the large pieces of furniture after we got the small pieces and the decorations out of the rooms. "You and I can do that," my wife & I decided. Spencer also offered to reinstall the carpet on the stairs for a nominal price. They got the job. What impressed us most as we watched the Spencer Floor Covering crew do the installation was they went about it as if they were putting the hardwood into their own house. Cuts to fit some of the awkward angles at our fireplace or where we have steps were carefully measured. Spacing between the hardwood floor and the walls was consistent throughout. When one of our exit doors had an elevated sill, they got us a riser. Then they had to cut it to fit so it was just right, "... No, no extra charge. It would have been OK without the riser but it just looks better this way. So I put it in." They carefully chose each board (the hardwood came in a variety of lengths) so there are no short boards coming into the walls and so that joints in adjacent boards are not too close to each other. "That doesn't look as good and sometimes weakens the floor. You don't want problems later." "Do you want the landing carpeted at the top of the stairs? That's got some wear too. There's plenty of left over carpet. No, no extra charge. Its just a few more minutes to do and it will look better and wear longer." Oh. And, they puttied in the holes in the floorboard ... and then they calked it. The Spencer Floor Covering people were hard-working, anxious to please, flexible and, by golly, they know to to install flooring. They knew how the performance of glue they used compares to other products that are available. They know the properties of the glue and how best to spread it. They could explain the pros and cons of an under floor liner and assured us that, having verified the moisture content of our cement pad, our floor would not need a liner. They tapped in the boards as they went in so that the joints were all tight. The crew leader's been at this for well over twenty years. Spencer Floor Covering's crew worked steadily for a solid week. Every day they took away the old carpet and pad and cleaned up their work area. When they finished the job, the floors looked amazing. I'm pretty picky when I have major work done in my home. Remarkably, there was nothing to be picky about. Not one element in the entire job was just "acceptable" or "not perfect but too minor to complain about." The installation was well executed and the resulting floor is flawless. When you figure what we didn't pay extra for furniture moving or hiring someone to finish the trim, they actually WERE cheaper than the other installer. Would we go to Spencer Floor Covering for future flooring needs? We wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Our story -- We had new hardwood flooring installed 3 years ago. We live on a small ranch (lots of dust and dirt) and have small animals as well. We were worried our floors were getting too much abuse and might need sanding and refinishing or some type of professional maintenance. Kipp came out to our place (25 minutes from downtown Livermore), and spent over an hour with us. First, he listened to all our concerns, asked questions, and inspected our floors. Then he shared his professional opinion with us. His recommendation was that the floor needed NO professional work done. He talked to us about the best ways to keep the floors clean and maintained. He also recommended a specific product we could try that might help our floors look a bit better.
