We took our senior dog to this groomer once and never again. Our dog has been traumatized for life. They lied to us telling us that our dog had something stuck in his throat and had to pull it out but we don't think that's true. Something like that you don't take care of yourself as a groomer, you notify the owners so they can take them to the vet but it was an odd story that just didn't make sense and it never sat right with us. He never flinched before we took him here and has been forever changed since we picked our pup up from this place. I've read other reviews and they have a pattern of abusing animals and lying about it. I usually don't write reviews but I have to for this one to save other animals and pet owners from this place. I took my dog for a hair cut, he was able to accommodate me the same day. The place looked very clean and smelled good. My dog came out beautiful with short trim as long as l requested. Also, the price was very reasonable for clipping the nails and brushing the teeth, other places like had to pay extra. read more

My Pepper does really good with Gonzalo. He has been going to him for a few years now. I've not had any issues with Spaw Grooming. He will do as you describe. We do short in summer and trim for winter. Pepper smells so good and is so fluffy. I love how he looks. Would definitely recommend. read more

I hope in the future this groomer will talk to owners about whether he plans to use a muzzle with their dog. If they agree to it, I hope he will buy an actual muzzle that allows the dog to easily breathe through their mouths and pant. Unfortunately that was not my experience. I brought my dog there for the first time for a quick nail clip. The groomer took him to the back. I heard that little electric nail grinder and tried to let the guy know that the grinder freaks my dog out and that he just needed regular nail clippers. There seemed to be a possible language barrier so I knocked on the door to make sure he understood me. He opened the door and that's when I saw that the groomer had tied my dog's snout shut with a leather cord for the procedure. I calmly but immediately took my dog and left. My dog was in panic mode for half an hour after that. I have no issue with proper muzzling, with the owner's permission. But this should not have happened. I now realize this is why so many good groomers have big windows onto the grooming area. This office was also not well kept and smelled smoky, which I noticed right away. I wish I'd gone with my instincts. I'm not a regular Yelper but I want to see this business change its practices and do well. read more

Pasadena CA allowed pet groomers to open up on May14, 2020. The next day, I took my Great Pyrenees to "Spaw & G Pet Grooming" at 1646 E. Washington Blvd. Picked up the dog a couple of hours later. Looks good and smells good. When I got him home, he started licking his private areas repeatedly. I thought maybe sensitivity to new shampoo. When I took him out for his evening walk, he sat down 3 times to lick his private area. This has never happened. This continued at home until bedtime. This morning I noticed a large, very red spot between his butt and penis. It turned out to be what looked like a large pimple or boil. I took him to Foothill Vet immediately. The diagnosis is that the hair around the scrotal sac looked like it was shaved and the shaver nicked the sac. Vet doctor said the groomer shaved too close and either burned the sac with a hot shaver blade or actually nicked it. $135 for exam, medication and a e-Collar to prevent the dog from licking and scratching. I called Spaw & G and spoke to the groomer. He could have cared less. I suggested that he be more careful in the future with other dogs. He said no need and hung up. Stay away. read more

I had the most beautiful Merle Pomeranian, long silky hair. I dropped my baby off and came back to a dog I didn't recognize. I absolutely did not recognize him. They shaved him completely, even the tail! Shaved the TAIL! He looked like a skinned dog. This was 8 months ago and his hair has not grown back. Who cuts a dog with that razor?! And the audacity to make me pay and give me an attitude I still can't forget when leaving. There's so many groomers out there to not go here. This place should be shut down. I took my dog here last week, for his first official grooming (I usually shave him in my backyard.) It was clean, the owner was nice, and I picked him up 2 hours later with all that I asked for, which I am giving 5 stars for because I know my dog is very rascally and difficult to deal with so I'm sure that was a difficult accomplishment. Also he still smells good a couple days later even though he loves to roll around in our backyard so that's a plus- if you don't get headaches from too much fragrance but I'm sure you can ask for an unscented finish. One thing to note is I asked to avoid his eyelashes because his eyelashes are VERY long.. they were trimmed juust a bit but not horribly so I wasn't upset because I know how wiggly my dog is. read more

DO NOT EVER go to Spaw Pet Grooming on 1646 East Washington Blvd., in Pasadena. Although it was an accident, they got either soap or some other kind of abrasive product in our dog's eye. Within hours it was swelling and closing up. We took him to an after hours Vet to get checked out. (By the time our dog's eye began to show signs of infection, the grooming place was already closed for the day and wouldn't reopen for two more days, so we couldn't contact them.) By the time we left the after hours vet, our dog was wearing the infamous "cone" and we walked out with $250+ in vet bills, two kinds of eye drops, and an oral med. Today was one of the two eye check-ups that we had to go to at our own vet at $40 a pop. We took our dog back to the groomers (in "person" along with the vet bills and proof of meds) and we tried to get the groomers to take some of the financial responsibility and basically got nothing. The gist of what he told my husband was, "These things happen. If we had to pay for everyone's vet bills whose dogs got soap in their eyes, we would be out of business." That says it all folks.!! Oh, and actually, they offered to give us a free bath for our dog. Really??? Disgusting!! So if you are in the Pasadena area....don't ever go to Spaw Pet Grooming ~ they just really don't care about your pet! read more

Ok - despite the negative reviews I decided to give our local dog groomer a shot. I called around 2:30 pm on a Saturday and was surprised that they were able to take my Black Papillon Mix without an appointment. We dropped her off and showed the groomer pictures of our dog after her last haircut. Our dog was ready about an hour 15 mins later and she looked happy and cuter than ever. $50 was reasonable and I will come back! read more

Spaw is great! They have been taking care of my dog Honey for several years now, she's a golden retriever and gets summer cuts and groomed there. She's an older gal and she's my baby so I won't just take her anywhere. They also clip our Great Dane's nails, which is no small feat!! ( Ha Ha) as well as several of my clients' dogs that I taken there for grooming. The dogs always smell and look great so I don't understand the other reviews. HORRIBLE PLACE!!!! BEWARE!!!! I picked up my dog TODAY HE HAD HE'S LEFT EYE BRUISED,SWOLLED, RED. Took him to he's vet immediately! she stated that he had been bleeding from the sclera and conjunctiva blunt trauma, pretty much hes eye was hurt-my family and I are very discussed and disturbed by this whole incident we couldn't believe such CRUELTY Had been done! We went to humane society in pasadena, we got our money back and they paid for the vet. The money is not the issue here! our dogs are our FAMILY! how this people acted and BEHAVED is UNACEPTABLE!!!! It's called JB Pet Groomers - guess they moved per other reviews. I was looking for a pet groomer that could take appts on short notice and upon calling, the lady said to come right on in and that it would take approx 2-3 hours because there were a couple dogs already in house for grooming. Extremely small parking lot, but lots of spots on the street. Entering the facility, I wasn't sure what to think. Small entrance and not fancy at all. Full groom and teeth brushing for a 12 lb Maltipoo = $55 - yes, expensive, but I've taken him to other places locally and paid in the $40 range for the same thing and was unhappy with the results. BUT this place rocks and I will be bringing my dog there again. I did my own little inspection when I came home and my dog was perfect... Overall, don't be turned away by the store front or the lobby - great groom for dogs. read more

I have a white poodle and she requires a lot of grooming and I am very happy to pay someone else to do it for me, especially someone as nice as Victor at Spaw Pet Grooming. We live in the neighborhood so we can walk to it and I love that it's a family-owned business and not a chain. My dog goes there every other week for a bath and if we happen to walk by on a non-appointment day she tries to go in and visit. Before Spaw opened we took her to a chain/store groomers and they charged a lot more, took a lot longer, and she seemed afraid everytime I dropped her off. At Spaw she gets in and out quickly, always looks great and is never afraid - plus I think the cost is very reasonable. I definitely recommend Spaw - it's not fancy but they are nice and friendly and the price is a bargain for what you get: good grooming, happy pet, easy experience. read more

Loved this place when they opened and took my 2 maltese there all the time. Prices were good and the dogs looked stunning. I could not believe how perfect their work was. That was when Victor was grooming. Now he has someone else grooming since about 1 1/2 years ago, whose skills are severely lacking. When I told him I only wanted Victor to groom the dogs he was very rude insisting that this other groomer had been grooming the whole time. The haircut was obviously uneven and choppy. The maltese looked more like a snauzer cut. They flea dipped the dog who had already been treated with oral flea medicine without asking me. My dog has begun to shake when I even drive up to the door. She seems terrified to go there. I will definitely not take my dogs there again. read more

I will not go there again. The first time I arrived Victor was not there for my appointment. Finally I went home and then they called and said he had arrived. I went back. as I really wanted my dog groomed.. Second time I had an appointment and several hours before the appointment I called to tell them know I would be 15 minutes late. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE !!! They are DOG ABUSERS! Took my small dog - Leo here to get groomed. When I picked him up his head & face had SEVERAL BRUISES & he looked TRAUMATIZED. They are UNPROFESSIONAL & UNTRUSTWORTHY. When I asked them about the several bruises they lied & said Leo fell off the table while he was being groomed, but that story didn't match the places on Leo's face & head that were bruised. I could clearly see that the groomer HIT & GRABBED my dog's face & head. In fact one of the bruises never went away & my dog is SCARRED FOR LIFE !!! read more

Okay I just got home from Spaw Pet Grooming and I am horrified to find that our dog is limping and has red -rritation on the skin beneath her eye. She went in for a flea bath. We live five minutes away from the shop,. After examining her here at home, she is having difficulty walking and sitting. I called Spaw immediately ...they say everything went fine, they have no idea why she would be limping or have any irritation on her eye. They suggested that maybe she sat in the cage too long while there. Problem is, that does not explain her eye, or the fact that she was crying when we arrived, or limping. She just had a flea dip a few weeks ago. No problems whatsoever at her Vet. Too bad they were booked today. We will be following this up after observing her here at home. Really concerned. read more

I have taken several dogs to SPAWS Grooming Salon for baths and all have come back clean, happy, uninjured and gorgeous. The owner, Victor, is as professional as can be, loves the pets he works with and does a spectacular job. I have no idea what Penny was saying in her review and why she was so furious. A simple "bath" with a PROFESSIONAL groomer always includes a blow dry, nail trim, anal gland expression, ears cleaned and a "sanitary trim" around the elimination areas. If I don't want Spaws to do everything thats included in a bath, I make myself clear at the time I drop off the dog. If one just wants a "plain bath" save yourself the time and money and do it yourself at home. I will continue to frequent SPAWS and give it a big thumbs up! read more

There are several pet groomers in my local area of Temple City,but I wouldn"t take our babies anywhere else but Spaw Victor is a kind soul that really cares about helping make life for our four legged friends better I have a very old black chow who was neglected by her previous owner.2 other groomers refused service ,because they were afraid of her after she had tried to bite them.She had matts so bad she could not even walk properly,not to mention the odor. Found Spaws in the phone book after calling every body in alphabetical order,.it was late Saturday afternoon and Victor the owner, took her even though it was almost time for him to close.He was completly non-judgemental and welcoming ,even though he knew the task ahead of him was not going to be an easy one . He called us 2 and a half hours later on a Saturday night no less. When we arrived we were OVERWHELMED to say the least . "Friday" came prancing out like she was a pup'.with her head high and proud ! Victor went above and beyond the call of duty !She is a new dog! He did not even need the muzzle we brought her in with!.Now she greets Victor like they were old friends. I expected to pay ALOT more than what he charged me .I almost felt like I was taking advantage of him . In these trying economical times, its nice to KNOW there are still some honest , hardworking individuals that respect that you work for your money too. This place is horrible !!!!!!!!!!!! My friends dog went in today for the first time and when we pick him up his right eye was swollen and completely red!!! When the manager was confronted about the dogs injury he was completely rude and said e was not aware of anything ! So we take the dog to the vet and they told us that he was bleeding from they due to blunt trauma ! Anger by finding out the dog was Harass we go back to the groomers with a humane society officer and confront the manager again and he then admitted to hitting him because the dog scratched him!!!! To put the cherry on the top the cashier attempts to attack my friends mom.
