When we bought our "new" house, it came with an above ground hot tub. The hot tub it came with was in decent condition, but the electrical box was literally hanging off the side(safety hazard), the hot tub cover was worn down to the styrafoam and the previous owners took the canopy that was over the spa itself (we bought a short sale). I called around to a couple of companies based in Danville/San Ramon and I was referred to Spas and Moore since the hot tub was an above ground kind. I called and left a message and was called back within an hour. I spoke with Doug who set up an appointment to measure the hot tub for a new cover(I got to choose from several colors) to give the spa an inspection and to schedule a deep cleaning. The spa cover/assessment and cleaning was not inexpensive but not unreasonable. Our contractor fixed the electrical issue-putting the box on the wall and underground wiring. The service is a workable system for monthly maintenance and at a very reasonable price. Sad that the reviews here are so crappy as in our experience thus far, they are not deserved. The only thing I wished they would do is to leave a "calling card" when they have come and gone. Nothing fancy, just a little note. read more

Well, color me very impressed so far! The motor for the heating element in my tub died, and I called several repair companies. Doug was the only one who got back to me promptly, and he was flexible in giving me several options for when his technician could come out to the house. David was prompt and personable, and showed me why my motor had malfunctioned sooner than expected, and what I would need to do about it going forward. Doug was incredibly easy and accommodating about handling the repair and offering to actually manage the entire refilling etc. process so that my tub was ready to use by the end of the work week. I get the feeling that Doug just likes people, and likes his business, and wants to make it all work and make his customers happy. Doesn't SEEM like that's such a huge big deal, but it's unusual enough in my sad experience that it puts him head and shoulders over the pack. He's got me as a committed customer. read more

The service I received was variable and inconsistent. There were weeks were I could tell the pool cleaner had not come and other weeks were I could clearly tell the vacuuming I paid for had not been done. When I called owner he was always quick to defend his workers and would be condescending towards me. I was put off by his attitude because I definitely knew more about my pool and pools in general, than he thought I would. I just do not have time to maintain my pool during the week. As I result, I was motivated to learn more and more about my pool and look for someone new. Also, the owner gives advice and suggestions based on what his workers tell him, but he has never based these on his own observations and that was evident from my conversations with him. The technician (Pablo) was great. He was on-time, diagnosed the problem and fixed it. He was polite and explained exactly what he was doing and why. I called to get a price quote a couple of weeks ago mid week and called Doug and left a voicemail inquiring about getting my hot tub fixed. I didnt get a call back until like 4 or 5 days later. When I did finally speak if him, he gave me a quote and I told him I would call him back if I wanted to go through with the job. When I contacted him back within a week, he said he was going to have to pass on the job even though he was going to be making 1,000-2000 for the job. How sad. I was nothing but nice on the phone when we spoke the first time and I felt like he was being rude to me by refusing service to me and providing no clear explanation. I have never in 16 years of my adult life ever experienced something like this. When I asked, he was vague. It just seemed like he didn't want to do the job. I guess he didn't want to make a large about of money he could have by doing the job. It's sad that during this financial hardship right now that a lot of people are going through, he refused business for no valid reason. But they had a backlog. I posted lamorinda families asking for recommendations and this came up. Simply emailed. Got email back in literally less than 10 min. Then voila they were done with the work in 4 days. Their work was extremely efficient/perfect and professional. Also price was right on par with concord place. We've been using Spas & Moore for spa service off and on since 2002. We used them at our first house and stopped service when we moved. In 2015, we bought a spa and had a different spa service come out to maintain it. It had been so long since we'd had a spa that I had forgotten about Spas & Moore. When we found ourselves unhappy with the company and parted ways. When I went to research spa service companies, I ran across reviews for Spa & Moore. Suddenly, I remembered them and their excellent service. We contacted Doug and restarted service with a new spa. Time went on and Spa & Moore did an amazing job maintaining the spa. Yet, we also found ourselves thinking, "We can maintain the spa. We've got the time." We did great for several months but, Ha! With four kids, a small zoo for pets, and the complexities of life, the spa was neglected. Added on that, the addition of a pool increased the complexities. So after months of neglect for the spa and a month of neglect for the pool, while sitting in carpool pick up, I emailed Spas & Moore for a service estimate. As always, Doug was gracious and responsive. He called me up right away, asked appropriate questions, gave his advice, and listened to my description of our situation. Doug will give advice, but won't force you to take it. He is always very gracious and understanding. We scheduled a visit for an estimate and when Dave came out, he explained some of the equipment, as well as checked out our sitch. Shortly afterwards, Doug messaged with an estimate and a timeframe for changing the water in the spa and starting service. Very prompt. And as a side note, Dave was very careful to close our gates so our dog wouldn't get out. As always, very pleased with Spas & Moore. I had a great experience with Doug and his technician. I bought an older home in Alamo and it had a spa that is at least 20 years old. We have lived in this house a year and a half thinking the spa was broken and wondering if we could pay someone to haul it out of our backyard. It was nasty inside with mold and dead leaves. When I started having some back pain we decided to see if it was fixable. I called Doug and he sent his guy out and had it up and running for a reasonable fee. This guy is so rude. He is a terrible business man and just a pain to do business with. I can't believe that we didn't fire him long ago. The spa was kept clean but every time he calls me for something he is rude and unprofessional. I would never recommend this business to anyone. I was billed for a month of service when they didn't even do anything. We locked our yard because of neighborhood theft and asked him to have the spa cleaner ring our door bell for access or let us know when someone was coming out. He decided that was too much of an effort and didn't want our business anymore which is fine by me. However, I am not about to pay for a month when they didn't do anything. The reason I give it three starts, is because I feel a bit ripped off. The service was good, but the price too much. I had my spa inspected for 90.00 today. Which is fine....the cost for a service call. But, then I had the spa cleaned and was charged $200.00. I know he mentioned it might be 150-200 but, I guess I though he meant including the 90.00 initial fee. I think this is way too much. Yes, the serviceman was kind and honest. But, as I told Doug Moore in a follow up email, I have an MA and make a heck of a lot less per hour after years of education, than this. It worked out to about an hour or less of work, and I was charged 90.00 plus another $200 for the cleaning. I don't know why they feel that cleaning a spa is worth as much as an hour at an attorneys office. I am tired of being ripped off because I live in San Mateo. I am laid off right now. We have two kids in college. We were desperate to have it fixed. But, now I feel stupid. Too late Live and learn. Doug is nice and he gets back to me quick. yt hot tub is not working today the day after his service came though. We think the motor got wet. So,it needs to dry. Doug, the owner, is super knowledgeable and always tries to give you ideas on what you can do to fix the issue yourself without having a service call. But if you need a service call, there is no better technician than David. David has worked on hot tubs for me for years and he always figures out what's wrong and gets it going again quickly. Recently our tub quit heating so David replaced a thermostat and thought we were good to go. When that didn't solve the problem, he returned to replace the heating element and gave us a very reasonable price. All-stars David and Doug are my go-to professionals for any spa challenge.
