Our water heater burst on a Friday afternoon. After researching on Yelp, I spoke to a few contractors and then talked to Sam at Spartan. I would not recommend this plumbing company due to their poor communication and repeated scheduling issues. Initially, they scheduled a plumber to come out the next day. I received a text saying my plumber had been called away to an emergency job and would arrive later that afternoon. By 3:00 pm, I still hadn't heard anything, so I reached out. I was then told the emergency job took longer than expected and they would not be coming that day. To their credit, they gave me $100 off my bill and rescheduled for the following morning. When the plumber arrived, we discovered a leak in the main water feed into my house, which was leaking into the basement. The repair required digging nearly five feet down to access the main line. I was told we would need to wait a week to obtain a permit before the repair could be completed. One week later, I received a call saying their digging equipment was broken and asking to reschedule for the following Thursday. I declined and insisted the repair be handled sooner. They then scheduled an emergency digging crew for the next day. The crew did show up, dug down almost five feet, and repaired the water line. I was told the inspector would be out the next day. The following day, I received another call saying they did not know when the inspection would actually be scheduled. The next week, I checked the city's inspection schedule myself and saw we were listed for Wednesday -- a day I would not be home. No one from the company informed me. The inspector arrived while no one was present, and the company was issued a $50 fine. I later discovered that the company had not even applied for the permit until the day after they dug the hole. While the actual repair was eventually completed, the overall experience was frustrating and stressful due to the consistent lack of communication and poor coordination. Spartan plumbing helped fix the main water line coming into my home. We found the leak late Saturday afternoon and I was able to get ahold of only a couple plumbers that night. One of the owners (Sam) called me back that Saturday night and answered all of my questions and even game me a rough price while walking around Elitch Gardens during the Fright Fest. One of the craziest negotiation/discussions that I have ever had, but Sam was very professional even though crazy clowns were coming up and trying to scare him. Ultimately, I went with them because their pricing was reasonable and several of the other great reviews. They arrived on the day they planned and executed the repair without any major landscaping damage despite having to trench nearly half of my front lawn. Brian was the Spartan representative in charge of the install and was easy to communicate with and made sure I was in the loop every step of the way. Quick response, good pricing, quality work, and great communication - I reached out to Spartan to check my home water heater which was on it's last leg. They came out on time, assessed the heater, pipes and all aspects around it, then gave me options on maintenance and replacement. I opted to have it replaced as well as other repairs after they showed me (with proof) of why. In the process, they also found a small gas leak in my crawl space (glad they caught this) and provided me with options to repair which I also opted for and am very happy with the work. Spartan Plumbing, Plumbing Problems? Spartan Plumbing is an exceptional value and workmanship. My kitchen drain is only 3.5" and passes through an unfinished part of the basement. However, years ago when I had the same stopped up pipe, I found the drainpipe joint was easy to remove at about 18" above ground level. Taking it off, I found thick, black sludge--something from the north end of a southbound Swamp Monster. As one might and with a clothes hangar tightly curved into a hook, I began pulling out blobs of globs of Boogerboo. Digging deeper and deeper, it seemed to thicken and become a bottomless abyss. Next came the baking soda and vinegar. Nothing but a pipe bubbling over with ooey gooey black sludge--though slightly thinned. I called a plumber at this time, and they removed the clog with their handy-dandy snake. After waving goodbye to a tear-stained hundred and change, I was back in business. Skipping ahead to this past week, the condition returned. Same clog, same Boogerboo from most certainly the same Swap Monster. Researching the internet for quick repairs, I had estimates from $150.00 to $219.00. OUCH! Then I came across Spartan and had an online conversation with one of the plumbers who informed me the price was $63.00 or Free, I quickly began booking the appointment. An energetic young man names Dakota showed up and, rather than immediately pulling out the snake, he produced a plastic container of crystals. Though they seemed to make some headway, he followed up with a handheld auger and away went the ooey gooey, after which he reconnected the pipe and ask me run the hot water for about 15 minutes. We hung out, watched and talked while the water flowed freely down the drain. He pronounced my pipes cured of Swamp Monster scat and took off. We had a water main leak that was discovered on Labor Day. Spartan Plumbing was the first plumber to respond to our calls. Sam came out and gave a thorough and honest assessment of our situation, provided the plumbing repairs he could at the time and scheduled us for excavation of the main line to fix the core of the issue. They took excellent care of our front lawn with the excavation, returned the landscaping back, and I was surprised at how small of a dirt spot was left at the end of their work. Their work was top notch and their communication exceeded expectations. They got water restored to our home, made sure we had the right documentation for our insurance claim, and provided follow up care calls to make sure everything was working well. Highly recommended. I called asking for an estimate for a hydro jetting service and was told even though I had scoping videos, photos, and they had a set "task fee" this information was secret and could only be told to me on site after charging a fee just to come and give an estimate. Would not do business with them. Pricing for tasks should be transparent. Change your business practices. No one likes total surprise billing. Either give estimates over the phone or provide them for free on site to customers. read more

First off, I will say that the job did get done in a reasonable amount of time, but it did feel pretty expensive. The job included removing a copper pipe that came through the brick wall in the picture. The pipe could not be removed from the wall, so it was cut as short as possible. Then the plumber decided to open a can of spray foam insulation to fill the pipe, which seems reasonable. I was standing there with him reviewing the results. He pointed at gaps in the mortar next to the pipe and was about to fill them with the spray foam when I told him not to do that. I told him I was planning to have someone repair/repoint the mortar. He proceeded to fill the gaps with the can anyway saying "Well, once you open a can of this, you have to use it all." Now my house looks like it has snot leaking out of it. Repairing the mortar was never discussed, and I was not expecting this. On top of this bizarre behavior, there were issues with arranging the agreement and the disposition of the plumber. When I first called, John told me the minimum charge and that I would be getting a 13% discount for a reason that I cannot recall. When the plumber first arrived to review the project, he took no measurements except by pacing, then tapped on a tablet for a while and presented me with a surprisingly large estimate that had no itemization. When I asked for itemization, he became frustrated and said that there wasn't any itemization. I asked how much does part X cost? He said he couldn't say but probably about $800. So I asked for an estimate without that part and he made a few taps on his tablet before presenting me with a new estimate that had no itemizations and was $800 less. This is pretty sketchy. Usually contractors give me some breakdown of parts and labor at least. He was getting agitated. I wasn't going to go for it but I asked when it would be done and he said he would do it "right now," and that would be done in the afternoon. I wanted to be done with the project so I agreed. I signed the vague estimate, and immediately afterwards he calls it in and schedules it for two days later. Then leaves. Two days later Spartan plumbing called to postpone the project another day. When he arrived to do the job, he walked right past us in the front yard, went through the back gate and let himself in to the house with no announcement whatsoever. The job did get done on that same day. The plumber did his last pipe joins and started cleaning up. Then he tapped on his tablet some more and presented it to me to sign off on the work even though he had not turned the water back on to check his work. Later, I called and left a message for Spartan plumbing. John called me back and I told him I have a photo of the snot coming out of my house but he was not interested. He was happy to send the same awkward plumber back to evaluate the situation and possibly clean it up. That sounded like a trap so I asked if the minimum charge would apply and he said that it wouldn't because it was still part of the same job. I asked if I would be billed for cleaning up this spray foam and he would not say no. The job is done, so I am relieved, but I regret trusting Yelp which has so many good reviews for this company. I'm very impressed with Spartan Plumbing! I have now used them several times, both at home and at work. They have done a toilet replacement and 3 water heater replacements (separate locations) for me and also have some significant repiping where needed in an old home. Each time the plumber who has come out has been different and each one had outstanding integrity and skill! I never feel like they are trying to sell me anything and feel like they are totally straight shooters and fairly priced. I have to say that we have had useless contractors in our home a couple of times but not to the extent of the bamboozle we got from Spartan plumbing. If I could give them a -10 rating I would. We had a drain in our basement that when we run the washer, water would backflow onto the concrete. We had used Spartan before for basic plumbing issues so called them to take a look. What started out as a snake, then camera search and a blow out ended up with our front yard being excavated and the entire basement blown up. When all of this was complete to the tune of $34,000 the issue still was not resolved. They checked vents on the roof, in the attic and ended up putting in a $6.95 plug with still no answers as to what caused this. This became a 6-week nightmare. Sam the owner is slick, he talks a good game, and after the yard excavation and the issue was not resolved, we should have contacted a more seasoned plumbing company. All of the techs that were sent out were very nice, some more knowledgeable than others, but I don't believe they have any seasoned journeyman plumbers, more apprentice status and we were the guinea pigs. They also recommended a contractor to put the basement back together and that also turned into a nightmare. Come to find out they get referral fees from anyone they recommend and the guy happened to be the roommate of the owner's brother. They are also flaky when it comes to their call time. If you have an 8:00 to 12:00 appointment expect 11:45 or later. They're when only a couple of days the team showed up at the start of the morning. The only time they were prompt was when they were extracting more money from us. If you use a credit card be ready to pay additional fees as they have an upcharge if you use one. So they get the tax write off of the original credit card fees and then charge their customer to cover it and make more money. From our neighbors that saw their vans at out home for weeks, to our many real estate friends we have let them all know, if you need a plumber, call anyone but Spartan. And yes, we feel like extreme idiots for ever believing that this was a true seasoned plumbing company. For basic plumbing issues, they can do this. Anything over $1000.00 I highly recommend anyone to get a second opinion. read more

I had a leaky p-trap, spartan came out, suddenly the disposal was punctured. I was quoted, $1081 by spartan to replace the now newly leaky garbage disposal. The part cost $169 at ace hardware and it took me only 20 minutes to replace. They were charging $900 for 20-30minutes of labor. Other plumbers quoted me between $125-250. Spartan refused to provide a break down of cost when asked. Do not use them at all cost. read more

I initially went with another vendor but that vendor was terrible at communicating and was not responding timely to me at all. The other vendor also said it could take up to two wks bc of pulling permits before he could start. Gabe called to follow up with me when he hadn't heard from me and in the end I dropped the other vendor. Spartan was competitive with their pricing.
