To go - Gyro Pita and Sparta Salad (with lamb)

I've come here to dine in, takeout, and ubereats'd countless times now. The food is always amazing and most importantly, they stay consistent with what they do. Their service is as good as their food is and whether I walk into the store or get my food delivered, they make it known that they care about making my experience great. I always appreciate the kind hand written notes on my uber eats deliveries when Im having a long day. Also, if you dont typically like salads like myself, the Sparta Salad will make you think otherwise. So good and Ive yet to find any other place that makes a salad taste as good as this.

So excited that we just added a new place to our takeout rotation! We just ordered 2 gyro pitas (one with sweet potato fries, one with onion rings). So delicious but we were sold before we even opened the bag. The care taken into drawing on the bag and the sweet message showed us we were about to be wowed. Presentation 12/10, Food 10/10.

Pork Souvlaki Platter

Stopped by for some Mediterranean food and they really exceeded my expectations! To start, they provided some complimentary pita and hummus which were very much appreciated. The pita was so fresh and soft. The Pork Souvlaki Platter with Greek Fries were a hit. Both the pork and the fries were seasoned well and hit the spot. The Braised Lamb Shank over rice was extremely tender and flavorful. This was definitely a hearty dish. To top it off, the staff were so kind and wonderful! We will definitely visit again if we are in the area.

Supreme Salad

First time ordering from here with my coworkers and absolutely enjoyed it! I got supreme salad which was so fresh. Adding protein next time might be a good idea. Check out if you are looking for fresh greek salad :)

Ordering takeout during covid-19. Fun time, Sparta makes things easy. Available on grubhub, great timing and delicious food. My boyfriend and I ordered a trio of dips, the tzaziki, hummus and skordalia. I think I like the tzaziki the best. The skordalia tasted a little off to me but everything else was great. Nice presentation as well. We also tried out one shrimp skewer and it was delicious, super tasty and flame grilled. For entrees we got the chicken platter with their delicious rice and a side salad. The salad was hefty and filled with veggies. The rice was perfectly dry and seasoned. Wish I could make this at home. The chicken was flavorful and paired perfectly with their chipotle mayo. Soooo good! I highly recommend it. Also ordered a lamb gyro with extra gyro meat for $2. Worth it. Super tasty, the fresh pita is beyond. Warm and tasty. We also got some olives and for $3 they're delicious and go with the meal really well. I made a last minute decision to get French fries with the gyro and I'm so glad I did. Perfectly seasoned and crunchy. Yumm. Of course some baklava for dessert. It's essential. Stay safe everyone, stay full.

My clients wanted Greek food so picked this spot. I called in my order to a really sweet lady. She was very kind and called me by name when she seen my name on the caller id. I ordered different items and picked the shrimp souvlaki pita for myself. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and the lady knew who I was. She went to pack the food and came back and I paid. It came to about $65. When I got in I ate and the pita was very good. The shrimp was seasoned so well. I will definitely return and had a really good experience.

Frozen gyro meat

I hate leaving these type of reviews because I genuinely had high hopes for this place since everyone on yelp was hyping it up. I'm just not sure how you can claim you're Greek when the gyro meat is frozen slabs that you probably just microwaved. The Greek salad had this funky smell to it as well as my husbands Chicken Souvlaki pita, which was minced up chicken. We think the lettuce and the tomatoes went bad which is where the fowl odor came from. If you're looking for good Greek food, stick to Sofia's on the boulevard in Hasbrouck Heights. I wanted to give this place a try and support other businesses but it's difficult doing that when the product is mostly frozen and just reheated. I would love to help the owner out any way I can, I know how bad reviews can affect businesses.

Chocolate Mousse Cake

First time ordering and will definitely be ordering again. The notes on the bag are so sweet and the food is fresh and delicious. I got a house salad, Sparta gyro and chocolate mousse cake!

As we walked in, it wasn't too busy, we got a table right away. The interior looked super pretty with brick wall background, tables and booths for dining indoor. They had outdoor seating available too. The menu had lots of interesting Mediterranean dishes. We started with the grilled octopus that had delicious seasoning with mix of olive oil and red wine vinegar. The complimentary bread was fluffy, accompanied perfectly with the octopus. The branzino was a flavorful filet, well cooked. The side of spinach was well made too. I loved the lamb kokinisto (from specials menu). The meat was so tender and the sauce was incredible. I just kept taking bites and eventually finished the whole bowl. At the end I took the rice pudding to go and loved the taste of it. Our server Stephen was super nice, paid full attention to all his tables. He told us about the specials of the day from which I actually found out about lamb kokinisto. The appetizers came out quickly but the entree took some time since we had ordered branzino and lamb. They add 3% surcharge for credit card, so take cash if you want to avoid the extra fee. But overall a solid place to enjoy excellent Mediterranean food.

But it was cook nicely. Skin crispy and juicy inside. I probably didn't have to squeeze more lemon on it. Grilled octopus was good. I wish the portion was bigger. Love the flavor. Lamb Kokinisto was soft and easy to pull apart. Overall it's a solid place for me.

Turkish cuisine is a unique combination of flavors, spices, and herbs developed over thousands of years, influenced by the Central Asian nomads and Arabic, Persian, Italian, French, and Eastern European cultures. While New York has some great Turkish food if one knows where to look, most of it leaves some room for improvement. Could Jersey be better? The town of Carlstadt has mainly residential private homes, with a spattering of condos and garden apartments. The main shopping area is all of about three blocks long on both sides of the street. Translated from the Turkish language, meaning sultan, we have come to this family-owned/family-run establishment located on Hackensack Street since 2006 for Saturday dinner. The reservation was easily made by Google Assistant. Upon entering this hidden gem called Hünkar Restaurant as first-timers, my partner, our friends, and I were greeted by the staff inside a cozy room, where ethnic pictures and decorations as well as the music all add to the vibe. A great view of the NYC skyline is visible from their enclosed back patio. Their menu features Mediterranean and Turkish cuisine with a modern twist and serves alcohol. As an appetizer, we decided on the Kibbeh (Icli Kofte), Calamari (Kalamar), and Cigarette Borek (Sigara Boregi). For our main meal, we opted for Chicken Saute (Taouk Sote), Shrimp Kebab, Lamb Shish Kebab (Kuzu Sis Kebab), and Chicken Shish Kebab (Tavuk Kebab). All Kebab meal accompanied by rice, char-grilled tomatoes, peppers, and a small salad. Warm, fluffy pida bread with a crisp crust started our meal. Every dish bursts with authentic flavor and is beautifully presented, from the fact that Turkish families from all over the area eat here. The staff is warm, welcoming, and very professional; our server was Akincan "John," the owners' son. The price was comparable to the area with the right portion. We can recommend this place.

Great ambiance, food, staff, service, drinks, decor, I loved it all!!!!…read more I picked to come back for Mother's Day. We had reservations, and we were seated on time. We never sat inside so were super excited . And I must say it was absolutely perfect. We must have had 5 separate ppl taking great care of us. Made us feel like VIP. The food was beyond delicious. We had a large group, and they seated us at 2 separate and crowded tables in the side room, which was less than ideal (with a reservation). It also got really hot because the room was packed. They were pushing us to order everything family style, but everyone wanted to order individually. The two of us weren't super hungry, and asked for our entrees to be on a separate check before ordering, which they would not do. Since I knew we were going to end up splitting the check with the one table, I ended up getting a more expensive entree to make up for the apps and drinks we weren't having (I already had a drink from the bar and my husband doesn't drink). I settled on the special lobster carbonara (which I think was $75). Good, but overpriced. My husband had the filet mignon - it was cooked as requested but we prefer more seasoning. A friend passed her grilled scallops over to us to finish - I took one bite and it tasted like ammonia. I discreetly spat it out. For her sake, I hope the rest didn't taste like that. The atmosphere was loud and hard to have conversations. They did a conga line around the restaurant later in the evening. Not really my scene. Service was slow and it didn't seem like they could handle big groups, even when split up. We ended up staying here for about 3 hours. We ended up leaving before we were even offered dessert. Also, keep in mind they have valet parking.

The add-ons can add up, but I always go with extra olives. I usually get the gyro meat with pita which is fine. I rarely order the chicken, but it's a solid choice too. My advice with the hot sauce: get a packet on the side so you can control the heat. That sauce is powerful. I don't know if there are spice ghosts in it but it can be too much. Boo. The rice can be hit or miss depending on the time of day. When it's busy and fresh, it's great. Later at night, the leftover rice can be a little dry. I recommend getting the food to go. It's quick, affordable, and iconic. If you've had the cart version - very likely during a lunchtime rush eagerly awaiting a fresh hot-off-the-grill platter while standing in line with salivating hunger, or stumbling around NYC streets late at night in a state of cheerful inebriation - you probably won't be able to retrieve the same satisfaction from the limbic recesses of your brain, as that particular alchemy of anticipation, irresistible street food scent, and a dash of city chaos is not something that can be bottled in a more domesticated experience. So no, the franchise concept into a fast-casual sit-in restaurant won't replicate the Halal Guys of your memory. But what you do get is a more dignified dining experience involving tables, chairs, and climate control. It's the food cart equivalent of realizing one actually appreciates concert venues with seats. Not saying the GA floor pit wasn't fun, but having crossed over into comfortable suburbanite territory, I've made peace with my lack of desire to stand in long lines or eat my food sitting on a curb. We came here after shopping at the Costco located in the same plaza, and ordered a chicken platter, beef gyro platter, waffle fries, and a mango citrus refresher. The meat was a touch cold and the protein portion leans modest, but it was non-greasy, and piled with the salad fixin's and pita bread, made for a balanced and filling meal. The waffle fries are amazing! Perfectly crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside, and a good size for the price. And the hot sauce is legitimately spicy (bless!), so get it on the side if you want to moderate the heat level I had no idea Halal Guys grew into a restaurant franchise from its humble street cart days and am glad to know about this place!
