Visited for lunch and, as usual, it was great. I ordered the chicken platter with rice which comes with a Greek salad. I also ordered the peach iced tea (jarred). The server greeted me upon entering. She changed the table cloth on the table I sat at and brought me the iced tea, which she poured it into a cup with ice without me having to ask. I ordered and the food came out fresh and quickly. I ate everything (no surprise). I love this food because even if you finish the entire plate you do not feel sleepy or heavy. I was in and out within 45 minutes. Recently had lunch here with friends, the ambiance is lovely, the food was amazing, we ate family style, ordered so many things; I can't remember! Then some to go! We forgot to take pictures we were so hungry Then I got delivery- lamb platter, perfectly cooked, incredible homemade tzatziki, Greek fries so light , crispy and flavorful! Fresh Greek salad! I rarely or never wrote a negative review as I understand how small businesses rely on their reviews. Tonight I had no choice as I ordered on Grubhub and ordered a shrimp souvlaki platter with double Greek salad on side instead or rice or fries. There was a $2 up-charge for the substitution which I'm completely fine with. My issue is I paid over $30 for only 5 shrimp over salad!!! I called the restaurant and the excuse was they use large shrimp. While I agree the shrimp size was good they weren't Jumbo/colossal but more like extra large. I would expect more like 8-10 shrimps of this size for the order. Oh well it is what it is. All that said I'm giving the 3 stars because the food was good just not a proper portion for the price. read more

But the food has seriously gone downhill. The gyro and beef souvlaki on pita was skimpy on the meat. The beef was not of great quality. Lettuce was dried out and bland. Even the Tzatziki sauce was not up to par. The Greek salad was flavorless, even with the dressing. Lettuce, tomatoes, 3 olives, 1 tiny, tiny pepperoncini The Salata Ithaki made up of Tomato, Beets, Onions, Chickpeas, & Potatoes is a warm salad, but again very little flavor at all. I ordered several items for delivery and the vegetable wrap for myself. There was a $15 delivery charge since they used an outside company. Granted there are only a half dozen distributors of gyro rolls theirs was quite tasty and well sliced. Portions were ample. Calamari tasted average at best. Portion size was less than average. The breaded coating fell off half of the pieces. Tzatziki sauce was a fail. Watery. Commercial grade. Disappointing. Pork souvlaki was above average. One of the better options in our order. Spanakopita was almost home-made looking and tasting. I'll give it an above average. Octopus was average at best. Tasted good although more on the acidic side. A bit on the chewy side. Portion was quite small about enough for 1.5 people. Greek salad was average at best. Small portion. Spoiled by Taste of Greece as far as salads are concerned. With quarantine limiting the times restaurants are able to accept orders for delivery, Greek Island Grill is one of the options that is luckily accepting orders a little later than most. The portions are huge. My boyfriend and I both ordered gyro platters, love that they both include the greek salad in addition to rice or fries. I ordered another small side of fries, which was bigger than expected, thankfully. Great value also, we spent $50 on two platters, an appetizer, extra pita and a huge slice of baklava. I came across a Living Social deal to spend $40 for $20 at this place which is near my home so my Mom and I decided to give it a try. As I always say, one of the best things about a place is when it's BYOB and this is. We came early on a Sat evening so only 2 other tables were occupied at the time. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and told us to pick the table of our liking. The interior is not what you would expect from a traditional Greek restaurant. Aside from one or 2 small paintings of Greece, the decor is a neutral beige with gold, very classy and soothing. Our wine bottles were uncorked at no extra charge and a basket of warm pita was brought to us as we looked over the extensive menu. For an app, we shared the Grilled Haloumi. 4 rounds of warm, delicious cheese that was mixed with grilled tomatoes and peppers. It's the Greek mozzerella, just saltier. For the entree (both came with a small Greek salad) I chose the Pastichio, ziti layered with ground beef and a bechamel (milk and flour sauce used to thicken) seasoned with cinnamon and other spices. A nice sized portion but the lack of creaminess and depth left me desiring something more. My mom ordered the Mixed Grilled Seafood; a plateful of 3 large shrimp, calamari rings, octopus, rice and pita. Not bad for $22 and everything was pretty good except the octopus is very tricky to make and this one was overcooked. My mom made it a point to tell our server and she apologized and gave her a free dessert. We also shared baklava which was really good. Our hostess/server was very very sweet and also suggested we come back when they start doing music along with dinner. I really wanted to find a new greek go-to place after moving far from our old one. Saw the reviews about the portions being too small but decided to give them a chance anyway. The portions were ridiculously small. We ordered the chicken platter for $17 something and got 2 tiny chicken skewers- see photos. Not only were the portion sizes tiny, the food was quite bad. The food was overly salted. It tasted like salt was also the only seasoning they knew about. The grilled feta was basically a large salt lick. The chicken was overcooked and dry. After several times of take out, and enjoying every dish, we finally went to dine in at a time when it was not crowded at all. The service was fantastic, with good recommendations and many times coming to the table to see how we were doing and just to chat a bit. I come here quite often seeing as I work just down the road. My go-to order is either a gyro in a pita or the tilapia platter. Both solid choices if you are hungry and enjoy tasty food. All platters come with a choice of fries or rice, and a small greek salad. My favorite appetizer to order is the grilled haloumi, which comes with grilled slices of tomato and pita wedges. If you like cheese, haloumi is a must try as not all greek restaurants carry it. It is the only cheese that can be grilled as it won't melt. I like to call it "squeaky cheese" as it sorta squeaks on your teeth when you chew it. But don't let this discourage you from trying it, I have turned many friends on to it. I've never had a problem with service either. I am limited to exactly an hour for lunch, so I order my food ahead of time and it is ready when I arrive. The owner is very nice and accommodating. I've heard that they sometimes have live music on the weekends. I have yet to stop by for dinner, but the atmosphere would make a cozy place to have a date night. read more

Ordered off the lunch specials menu and decided on the Mediterranean Chicken Wrap w/fries. My meal was to go but I sat around long enough to enjoy the atmosphere. Though there wasn't much going on as for as decor or much evidence that you were at a authentic Greek spot, it was comfy and cute. The wrap was just what I was craving. It was filled with chicken, tomato, feta cheese and balsamic vinaigrette. I'm not a big fan of balsamic so I was glad to see that the chicken was not doused in it. The chicken was juicy and in no way undercook as I have had happen to me before in other establishments in Hackensack. The wrap on the outside was crisp and had grill marks which gave it that perfect hint of burned taste without being disgusting and overwhelming. Not sure if the fries are hand cut or frozen (I'm no expert yet, my guess is frozen) but they were yummy. I paid $8.00 for my lunch and was satisfied. While I waited, the owner was so nice she offered me something to drink while I waited. She served me a fresh cup of coffee on the House! After photographing the desserts that were on display, she then offered me a piece of Baklava cake on the House also! How nice was that?! That is good customer service. Waited an average amount of time, especially for being busy and the nice waitress quickly greeted me and took my order. They accidentally served me a bowl of soup but still charged me for a cup because that's what I ordered.The lentil soup was perfectly seasoned and I thought it was nice that they would only charge me the cup. As in many small shops, they won't do that. The Salmon and salad were delicious. The salmon was a generous portion and perfectly grilled (not overcooked).
