    Shrimp souvlaki platter
    Bart S.

I rarely or never wrote a negative review as I understand how small businesses rely on their reviews. Tonight I had no choice as I ordered on Grubhub and ordered a shrimp souvlaki platter with double Greek salad on side instead or rice or fries. There was a $2 up-charge for the substitution which I'm completely fine with. My issue is I paid over $30 for only 5 shrimp over salad!!! I called the restaurant and the excuse was they use large shrimp. While I agree the shrimp size was good they weren't Jumbo/colossal but more like extra large. I would expect more like 8-10 shrimps of this size for the order. Oh well it is what it is. All that said I'm giving the 3 stars because the food was good just not a proper portion for the price.

Chickpea beet salad with chicken added

WOW delicious! I placed an order for pickup and it was perfectly done and really exceeded my expectations! So fresh and tasty! I ordered a warm salad with chickpeas, tomato, red onion and beets. What a great combo! Topped with juicy marinated grilled chicken. Yum! Spinach pie is huge, loaded with spinach, flaky outside - yum!! The staff is extremely nice as well and the inside of the restaurant is very petty. I can't wait to order again!

I was looking for a spot to order lunch and found this spot. I called in my order and spoke to the manager. She informed me the menu online was not accurate and had to update me. I ordered several items for delivery and the vegetable wrap for myself. There was a $15 delivery charge since they used an outside company. The company texts constantly when the food is on the way and it arrived on time. When I got in I ate and the vegetable wrap was good and so were the fries. It wasn't too overwhelming or soggy. All in all I had a good experience.

If I could give it 10 stars I would. I truly enjoy the food, atmosphere & service. I've been here a couple of times , and will continue to go back. It's a comfortable place to eat, even somewhat romantic. The food is consistently good. The service is friendly and on point. It's byob and they now deliver. I prefer old school, sitting in and getting it fresh. They do have parking, there's a driveway right next to the building.

be aware....... the food shown on the uber eats menu is not accurate. i ordered two chicken platters,...the menu showed four skewers on the chicken platter. when it arrived.... only two!!!! this is theft, false advertisement and a complete sin to take advantage of people who have absolutely zero recourse. they lack accountability and honor. i wonder how many other people have been robbed by greek island on 77 main street in hackensack. pirates!!! not to mention a $65 expense!!

I came across a Living Social deal to spend $40 for $20 at this place which is near my home so my Mom and I decided to give it a try. As I always say, one of the best things about a place is when it's BYOB and this is. We came early on a Sat evening so only 2 other tables were occupied at the time. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and told us to pick the table of our liking. The interior is not what you would expect from a traditional Greek restaurant. Aside from one or 2 small paintings of Greece, the decor is a neutral beige with gold, very classy and soothing. Our wine bottles were uncorked at no extra charge and a basket of warm pita was brought to us as we looked over the extensive menu. For an app, we shared the Grilled Haloumi. 4 rounds of warm, delicious cheese that was mixed with grilled tomatoes and peppers. It's the Greek mozzerella, just saltier. For the entree (both came with a small Greek salad) I chose the Pastichio, ziti layered with ground beef and a bechamel (milk and flour sauce used to thicken) seasoned with cinnamon and other spices. A nice sized portion but the lack of creaminess and depth left me desiring something more. My mom ordered the Mixed Grilled Seafood; a plateful of 3 large shrimp, calamari rings, octopus, rice and pita. Not bad for $22 and everything was pretty good except the octopus is very tricky to make and this one was overcooked. My mom made it a point to tell our server and she apologized and gave her a free dessert. We also shared baklava which was really good. Our hostess/server was very very sweet and also suggested we come back when they start doing music along with dinner. I'd give the place about 3.5 stars since it was better than OK and I will give it another shot at some point

Grilled Feta aka Grilled Salt lick
    Mae N.

I really wanted to find a new greek go-to place after moving far from our old one. Saw the reviews about the portions being too small but decided to give them a chance anyway. The portions were ridiculously small. We ordered the chicken platter for $17 something and got 2 tiny chicken skewers- see photos. Not only were the portion sizes tiny, the food was quite bad. The food was overly salted. It tasted like salt was also the only seasoning they knew about. The grilled feta was basically a large salt lick. The chicken was overcooked and dry. Very, very disappointing.

$190 worth of food, terribly dissatisfied

Unlike many restaurants today, Nisiotis Taverna had pure virgin olive oil on the table in a clean white bottle which we used generously and thankfully to dip our bread into. Yum! The spreads were excellent and the pita was toasted just right and served warm. The pita was chewy, warm and well toasted. The lamb chops were grilled exactly to requested temperature and seasoned correctly. The fries that came with that were warm and crispy. Lightly sprinkled with dried oregano for that Greek flavor. The branzino was filet fresh and grilled to perfection. But I would suggest getting it with vegetables instead of potatoes, which were fine but not particularly special. They also had "off the menu" selection of sea food which were recommended and fresh. The black bass was truly as fresh as I've had in NJ, but slightly, just slightly, undercooked: A minute undercooked. This was actually good for me but some may recoil a little. Otherwise it was perfection. If you know how to eat fish, I'd ask for it whole, instead of fillet'd. The dandelions that came with it was over cooked but the mild flavor was a good compliment to the black bass. They also had large anchovies, which grilled properly would be awesome. The service was spot on but not intrusive but it wasn't busy because of our late lunch. The ambience and decor was charming and really helped to focus our minds towards beautiful beaches and warm breezes of the Greek islands, where this kind of food would be served. Overall a very good experience but slightly expensive. There was nothing wrong with the food per se but slight improvements here and there could make it fantastic: For example, vegetable was over-cooked, and black bass was just slightly undercooked. Regardless, I recommend this quaint Taverna! The owner's care and friendliness topped the scale from a four to a five star. Realistically, it is a 4.5 or 9/10.

There were a lot of empty tables awaiting reservations. The complimentary bread and olive tapenade were also appreciated. We really enjoyed the food: spanakopita ($20) was tasty with a very flaky Phyllo and a fresh salad with grape leaves and chunks of feta, things you don't normally see in a side salad. The pork souvlaki platter ($22) with fries was also very tasty. Their menu is not super big but adequate options. If you have a special occasion, this is also a good spot but be sure to make reservations and know it's a relatively small place. The atmosphere and decor are very comfortable though it can get very loud if there are a lot of customers (and these customers seemed to be enjoying their experience!); perhaps because of the small place and acoustics. BYOB. They had an entrance in the back so they likely have a small parking Iot there? But we found parking around the corner, as there's no 2 hour parking limit on weekends.

We preferred these over the chicken kebab, which were just as flavorful but quite a bit drier. Whether it's a roast turkey with endless sides, spicy meat stew, a seafood extravaganza, or even no-frills Kentucky Fried Chicken, there's no holding back when the season for feasting rolls around. Located on busy Broadway in Elmwood Park, we decided on our Christmas Eve dinner at this family-owned establishment. The reservation was easily made via OpenTable. Upon arrival as first-timers, my partner and I were greeted by the owner at Taverna Mykonos and got a table for two right away in the corner where the tables are close to each other inside their cozy, very dim-lit, and elegant dining room with Christmas music playing throughout. There's a full bar with an extensive selection of Greek wines, with approximately 80% sourced from regions across Greece, as well as other excellent choices from California and Spain. The menu featured both authentic traditional Greek dishes along with many other options. The restaurant bakes all of its bread as well as its desserts. Traditionally, the meat of choice served during a Greek Christmas meal is lamb and pork. For starters, we decided to share Keftedes (Greek-style seasoned meatballs served with tzatziki dipping sauce). For our main meal, we opted for Baby Roasted Lamb with roasted potatoes and Lamb Shank with tomato orzo. Complimentary bread started our meal, and we washed it down with a sparkling spring water product of Greece. Complimentary cookies were given to each table at the end of the meal. The food was fresh, using quality ingredients, tasty, and well-presented. We enjoyed the keftedes very much, as they were moist and complemented well with the tzatziki dipping sauce. The portion was reasonable. However, we were disappointed with the Baby Roasted Lamb, as it was mostly bones with only some pieces of edible meat. Service is professional, friendly, and fast. The cost is comparable to the area. Exchanged a few words with the owner, George, about the old neighborhood in Astoria. Opa!
