Dinner time and I am not familiar with Lubbock at all. I was searching Yelp and most of the restaurants I saw and was interested in were closed Sunday and Mondays. My boss mentioned Spankys and that the Fried Cheese was great. I decided to go with his suggestion. I am very glad I did. There was plenty of parking, easy to find location. I entered and order was taken at the counter. Burgers, chicken sandwiches and all sorts of fried goodies. I like zucchini but went with the cheese on boss man's recommendation. It comes in 3 or 6, but after eating I almost wish it came in 1 or 2 cause they were huge. The breading was light but crispy, lots of cheesy goodness. I only finished 1.5 but that's because I chowed down on my burger first. The burger was juicy, topped with lettuce, tomato mayo, onion and diced green chilis. I couldn't put it down once I started. The fries were crispy, just slightly over done which is awesome. I didn't even get to finish them. I have to say I was defeated, didn't finish what I ordered from sheer fullness. I sent my wife a message immediately after saying if we ever are in Lubbock together I'm bringing her here. The burger was as good if not better than my favs back home, fries on point and the fried cheese was best I've ever had. I don't usually eat cheese sticks because most places they are blah. You order your food at the counter. Good selection of burgers, sandwiches and appetizers and a beer menu. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and sat in the dining room where they delivered the food. Let's start off with the good things- Staff were friendly, answered my questions and had patience despite it being my first time The decor was very nice, kind of an older style while still having an environment of a pub. The cheese sticks were a nice appetiser, what they were hyped up to be. Now the bad, the main entree food was mediocre at best. The chicken on the Buffalo chicken sandwich probably covered a 1/3-1/2 of the sandwich, meaning I had bites full of bread and Mayo. First time here we had their famous fried cheese and we ordered a chicken basket. We got our fried cheese maybe within 5 minutes of being seated. A family of 6 and 2 couples came in about 20 minutes after us, they all ordered and received their food pretty quickly. We are still waiting on our meal and when we questioned the cashier she said 6 more minutes. Well it's been 15 minutes... It's not even a busy day. The manager brought our chicken out and didn't even apologize for the delay. I guess 10 meals is the equivalents of frying 3 pieces of chicken. At that OVER fried chicken. There are a bunch of burger restaurants in Lubbock so it's hard to choose one to go to. I like Spanky's because they have a great friendly atmosphere, good food, and the prices are very reasonable. The dish that differentiates Spanky's from other burger restaurants is their fried cheese. They take giant hunks of mozzarella and deep fry them in a light batter. The batter is very thin and crispy and the cheese is extremely gooey and cheesy. I like it with their marinara sauce because the acidity of the sauce nicely balanced the rich cheese. They also have a great monte cristo. A monte cristo is a ham and cheese that has been lightly fried and it's served with raspberry preserves. It's rich and decadent and there is a nice balance of savory and sweet. The food is made better by the prices. The burgers and sandwiches are huge and they are less than $7. The appetizers are also huge. So while you might be thrown off by the funky looking interior or the casual atmosphere, this is someplace that you need to try. read more

So I'm just cruising along down the road and I happened to look over and see a big beautiful sign that says famous fried cheese know anybody who's anybody loves some good fried cheese I'm talking mozzarella. So now my interest is completely paid over this famous fried cheese so me and the wife decide to order it for dinner. We ordered 3 full orders of the fried cheese, Two orders of the chicken baskets one order of onion rings and one order of fried okra total $83. So let's get it out of the way right off the top this was way too expensive this food should've been closer to about $42. All of the comments about the fried cheese being very large they are absolutely correct it is a lot of cheese for what they give you. Almost to the point of choking because there's so much now fried cheese is fried cheese but if you don't have any seasoning it'll still taste like bland fried cheese and this was very bland fried cheese we put salt on it we did it in sauce we use marinara it's just not that we did could give it flavor they were just blah. The chicken was the exact same absolutely no flavor at all for any of the chicken we actually ended up giving it to the dogs because I had no flavor whatsoever The onion rings were onion rings they weren't terrible but they weren't great and the fried okra was just disgusting saving grace would be the french fries their french fries were actually pretty darn good. But I'll have to leave it at that because in my mind Spanky's got spanked by not being able to have any flavor I assumed the mascot is a dog because you'll end up giving most of your food to your dog. read more

Id assume I would have had a freshly made burger given the error? Well, I'd be wrong. I'd guess the meat patty's were maybe 80F and as well well well done as Ive ever seen. I ate about one third of my cold, massively overcooked, wrong order, put it in the box they brought and my dogs will have it for dinner instead. When you're a public institution in a university setting there are usually some compelling reasons you've become one. Good food, great service, unique offerings. When you first walk in, you order your food and decide upstairs or down. They then give you a sign with your dog name on it, which was funny. We ordered the cheese sticks as an appetizer. Horrible service and they can't even get a simple order right. You have to send it back at least three times. So I went in to place a Togo order, waited in line, got to the counter and was told that I was in the wrong line that I had to go to the other side of the building to place a Togo order. Frustrating after waiting but ok whatever, I get to the Togo counter and I am told that they don't have a register assigned to it so I need to go back up front and wait in the line Again! to place my order. With no bun (trying to eat on a low carb diet). I asked for them just to put it in a Togo container, like a bowl or something. Took three people to figure that out lol. Fast forward 30 minutes my order finally comes out, not Togo as ordered and would you believe it on a bun, I asked them to take it back and please take the bun off and just put it in a Togo container please. Staff was rude and seemed to be bothered by me even asking for this as if it was a major inconvenience to get my order correct. 10 minutes later my order comes back out, in the container with no bun, but also minus my bacon and cheese. Smh, I send it back again and then wait another 10 minutes only to get it back with the cheese and no bacon. Apparently they never charged me for the bacon an hour ago. When I originally placed my order, smh, so they make me wait in line to pay for the bacon while they take it back to fix. An hour and a half later I get my order, now honestly don't even know if I should eat it because I'm kinda skeptical they did something to it or spit in it.
