We haven't had Spaggis in years. We have used them for events in the past but it's been quite awhile since we visited. Obviously with current situation we opted for take out. Came to Spaggi's on may7 '22 for my wife's birthday. Our server, Cameron was very attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Had the Osso Buco and the Chilean Sea Bass. We had Spaggi's cater our wedding last month and were very pleased with how everything came out. We ordered beef short ribs, salmon, scalloped potatoes, and veggies. The short ribs were tender and delicious, and guests raved about the sauce on the salmon all night long. A few guests even said it was the best salmon they've ever had. I can't tell you how much I love this restaurant! Take it from me I've had incredible Italian food all over Italy, but Spaggis is our special place here! Spaggi's's is a very special place! They make strangers feel like family and their food is incredible! Everything from the most simple homemade pasta to an incredible tomahawk steak! Everything is perfectly cooked and presented. Desserts are Beautifully crafted by Chef Henry and the service is amazing! Chef Henry and his wife Ana really understand the nuances of fine dining without being pretentious! On several occasions I intended to photograph our dishes but I was so excited to dig in that I completely forgot to Photograph our food! Ciao my fellow Yelpers, My friend took me to Spaggi's Italian restaurant because he said it was his favorite place for spaghetti. By the looks of the restaurant, being located in a dimly lit strip mall next to a soccer supply store, I assumed the place was going to be a cheap and non eventful. Boy was I wrong. Looks can be deceiving. This place was very classy, in fact I felt a little under dressed. The inside was decorated with beautiful paintings and flowers. It did remind me of a recent trip to Italy by the way they served the water from glass canisters. They had indoor and outdoor seating. Make sure to make a reservation, on a Friday night, I was told the wait can be two hours. Spaggi's has a large wine selection and a full bar. I had a glass or two of Chianti, and my friend had a beer. There were quite a few specials for the evening. I was amazed at how well out waiter had memorized in great detail all the ingredients for each dish. I decided on the beet salad with goat cheese, shrimp in champagne sauce, and for dessert a lovely slice of carrot cake. And of course my friend was thrilled with his spaghetti and meat sauce. I was very impressed with the flavors and presentation of our dinner. The lady hostess was very busy, but quick on her toes. she was very attentive and helpful to the waitstaff and the patrons of the restaurant. We got to meet Henry the chef and owner of Spaggi's. Our interaction with Henry is the reason I am giving 4 stars and not 5. He was all smiles and very friendly but when I was introduced to him he asked my date if I was his daughter, and told me that I was beautiful and lucky to have such a nice father. I think I turned as red as my wine and was mortified. My date did not correct him and just laughed it off. There is only a 7 year difference between our ages, whether Henry was serious or not, I have no clue, but i was slightly offended, but mostly embarrassed. I did not let that ruin the evening. It couldn't. The food and ambiance was so romantic and relaxing. Yes, it would be a nice place to eat with your father, but definitely a very classy place to take a date. There is a hidden gem of an Italian Restaurant nestled in an Upland strip mall. I wasn't looking for spectacular but we were surprised. We stepped passed the front door and passed a frosted glass wall displaying the head chef and various photos in an LCD monitor. We found ourselves standing in a finely decorated room adorned with picturesque scenes on oil in heavy oak frames. Different shades of dark and subdued greens set the canvas of the dining room as bottles of wine and olive oil reflected light from various angles. After selecting a bottle of wine to frame the meal we dove into a menu that filled our eyes and stomach with images of wonderful dishes and savory meats. I landed on the Genovese, a specialty of the house consisting of savory pot roast on a bed of fettuccine with mixed vegetables and my fiancé decided to have the mahi-mahi. Additionally, we both enjoyed the insalata della ana, a mixed baby greens and romaine with crumbled feta cheese, caramelized pecans, diced mango and fresh raspberries salad, tossed in a combined raspberry vinaigrette and ranch house dressing The service was on the spot. I even accidentally dropped my napkin and a new one was promptly returned. I especially appreciated the pasta portion of my meal. Someone took the time to make the fettuccine from scratch. This is something you can't fake. The texture and flavor of the pasta is so much better when it is done right. BRAVO Spaggi, you have captured our attention from your hidden restaurant in Upland. For our engagement anniversary my husband and I usually go to Spago's in Beverly Hills (yeah, we are still one of those silly googly eyed couples who celebrate that life changing event). However, this year the date fell midweek and Spago's is closed for remodeling :-( So we toyed with the vowels in our vocabulary and came up with Spaggi's, not in Beverly Hills, but on Foothill just a hop, skip, and jump away from us. Given the location, I was very surprised by how nice the interior of the restaurant is. We were given the choice of a table by the window or one in a corner. Took the corner because the view from the window was a straight shot to the neon sign of the "adult lifestyle" store across the way. They also have a charming patio out front, but same problem with view and then you're amongst parked cars. Anyway, my food was great! I had a salad that was on the daily specials--arugala with strawberries, watermelon, goat cheese, and pine nuts in a lemon vinaigrette. Delicious, light, and refreshing on a summer evening. For my entree, lamb chops with scalopped potatoes and vegetables. Every bite of it was soo good! I wanted to lick my plate clean, and then take those lamb chop bones and go sit in the corner and gnaw on them like my beagles would. I suppose I could have asked for a doggie bag and done that in the privacy of my own home, but then the beagles would have been like yeah, hand over the bag! My husband had filet mignon and was pleased with it but did not care for the side sauce that came with it. He also thought that that the potatoes should have been sliced thinner--but he ate them all. Not sure if he was serious or trying to humor me or romance me with his pseudo culinary chat. For dessert we both chose some type of mini chocolate cake and gelato. Cake was fine, but the gelato was better. My flavor was salted caramel and my sweetheart chose mango. We agree, that this was a lovely place with great food and ambiance, and we will definitely return. But if we do not watch our budget, rather than Spago's or Spaggi's for next year's engagement anniversary dinner, we may end up with a can of Spaghettios! read more

Horrible Mothers Day Dinner. How we went from excited they were even open on a Sunday, to completely disgusted is beyond me. Poor execution and the worst meal I've ever had. PLEASE BE WARNED AND EAT HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK. This is a very disappointing visit for a restaurant in $$$. If you value your life/health, do not go to this restaurant. Servers were polite but uninterested and managers were stubbornly unhelpful and snobbish. The 2 orders we made were Spaghettini Al Frutti Di Mare and Beef Wellington. Due to allergic issues, we asked for the mussels and calamari to be replaced by shrimps and scallops. When the order arrived, there were 4 piece of unknown items in the bowl with 2 shrimps, 1 scallop and 1 penny size item on a shell. When we reported it to the manager, he refused to acknowledge our issue and repeatedly insisted that those 4 pieces of fish were part of the dish and the smelly/spoiled claims are all right. As stated in the menu, "..with clams, New Zealand mussels, shrimp, scallops, calamari, and a slipper lobster tail..". Where is the listing of fish and there is only shell fish, no fish, in any other place I have had this dish. The Beef Wellington arrive to the table barely warm. When I reach the steak, the center is uncooked and still cold/frozen. To be fair, the red wine source on the size was warm and I could have heated the uncooked steak in it. At this point, I don't think it is worth notifying the restaurant. So I paid the bill and the server did not even ask why we have all the food on our plate untouched. My coworker always talked about this place and we finally got together and had dinner here. It looks pretty fancy inside for a restaurant in the same plaza as Lowe's. I don't know if this is normal, but when the waiter welcomed us after being seated, there was an extensive list of "specials" in addition to the menu. It all sounded yummy. I ended up ordering Cioppino. I can't find many Italian restaurants in the I.E. that serve Cioppino, so extra points for them. It came out well presented with a pretty shell in the middle purely for decorative reasons. The broth was deliciously tasty! The mussels were too big for me. I generally like them small so I don't have to chew on something that big. My friend ordered the African sea bass which was well presented and looked delicious. She also ordered a salad in addition to her entree. I chose not to order one, but the waiter did bring out a plate with a super small portion on the house for me so that we both had something to munch on while we waited for our entrees to come out. Very nice! Service was also on point the entire night. I enjoyed my time here and will be back. My coworker says the chef holds cooking classes on a certain night also, which sounds like fun! read more

Hubby and I wanted to try a new place for our anniversary dinner. So we decided on this place. Thankfully it did not disappoint. The service was AMAZING!! I did not mind leaving a $20 tip at all!! Food was really good too. I started with the arugula/strawberry/watermelon pine-nut salad (special). It was dressed with a light vinaigrette. Very tasty!! For my entree, I had the seafood risotto. It has clams, calamari, lobster, shrimp, and scallop. All in a tomato base sauce with saffron risotto. All came together really well. Hubby had the beef Wellington. Was cook rare (not to his tasting). But what he did eat he enjoyed. We got a FREE red velvet slice of cake for our anniversary. Very nice of them. Visited Spaggi's for the first time with my wife -- as we were celebrating our anniversary. I had heard that Spaggi's was doing a great job with Covid precautions, and that their food was delicious, and both things were true! Our server was great, and made sure we were taken care of (my wife loved her no nonsense approach!, and the staff were all friendly and organized. The food itself was also excellent. They clearly put a lot of care into everything they do here, and we were so happy with our experience. We will be visiting again soon! read more

A bit of a hidden gem, transport Spaggi's to a zip code on the westside of L.A. and it would be right at home. A full menu of Italian delights and daily specials make for a great experience. A very welcoming environment, small bar area and warm and knowledgeable staff round out a quality dining experience. I had been traveling back from a meeting and was not in the mood for fast casual and wanting something more. After filling up at a nearby Unocal this place caught my attention. It sits between a local bar and an all you can eat sushi place in a small strip of store fronts, its one of those blink and you'll miss it locations. I was solo so I sat at the bar which I had to myself. I wanted something healthy and light sounding so the spinach salad stood out. They offered me a small bread basket which featured several artisan varieties along with some balsamic and olive oil for dipping.Delicious all by itself. What to order was the small quandary but tjat spinach salad was calling to me. Sounded reasonably light with some italian faves sprinkled in for a touch of heartiness. Pamcetta added that salty savory component. It arrived looking like an oil painting and it was refined simplicity at its best. Hard to find any fault with Spaggi's but hard to get a real gauge of their Italian dishes based on a bread basket and a spinach salad. I would wholeheartedly come back ! read more

Where do I begin? Let me just say this review is looong over due... Henry and his team are truly remarkable. My family and I have used SPAGGI'S for over 15 years now. He has catered for all our graduations, birthdays, holiday parties, corporate gatherings and everything in between. When I have an event and Henry is catering, I am truly at ease the day of the event. I never have to worry about anything. He brings everything from the main dishes, to the chafing dishes and all the way down to the table and table linens. I never have to provide a thing. In addition to the catering side, we have hosted many private dinners at his restaurant and are never let down. The fish, the steak, the pasta, the side dishes, are all consistent every time. He has also sharpened his baking skills over the years and has come up with best cookies and cakes (try the carrot cake!). I heard so much about this place and I had to try it. I ordered the lobster ravioli and it was great. Unfortunately I can't say the same for my guests. The chicken breast was extremely dry. The service was a bit slow. They seemed more worried about closing. The water taste like tap water and some of the appetizers had no flavor. read more

Went for Mother's Day 2018, I call ahead to say we will be late for our reservation. Even though they were only about 60% full we were jammed in to a table right in front of the entrance. After dining there for nearly 2 hours most of the empty tables when we arrived we're still empty. The wait staff was efficient but very little personality, i'm not sure if he wanted to be there that day. I know it was Mother's Day lunch but the overall atmosphere was uninspired even after the Cheif came out to meet his guests. The manager was dismissive and unapologetic when we bought up our seating situation. The various pasta and fish dishes we had were nicely done and they had excellent flavors but it did not make up for the two star experience at 4 star prices. read more

This restaurant by far is one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at! And that's saying a lot coming from a former head food server and trainer.. and one that loves eating out as a hobby! They are doing their best during COVID restrictions with regard to having a tent and only outdoor seating.. they have the most delightful warm and welcoming patio and an adjacent tent set up to include chandeliers and linen tablecloths. The food is amazing! The sauces, flavors, plating and quality are excellent! Our server and family-run members made sure our first time there was one to be remembered. One would never think this quality of food and service would be in a strip mall location.. but, it caught me by surprise as being one of the best meals I've ever had. From the crispy edged bread and olive/sun-dried tomato/artichoke spread.. salad.. special ground filet appetizer to lobster ravioli and my short rib entree to the blueberry pie! ALL were excellent choices and my expectations were delightfully exceeded. I will 100% for sure come back to this restaurant for dinner.. we drove over 30 minutes to get here and it was well worth it! Excellent food and service here. I've been several times, and each time it's been delicious. The first visit I had the lobster ravioli, which had a light cream sauce on it and did not have that overly heavy sauce that most restaurants have. (They do make fresh pasta here.) Another time I had the osso bucco, which was tender and delicious. Yet another time I brought a friend; we shared two pastas: the pesto linguine and the stuffed rigatoni, both of which were very tasty. I did ask for the marinara sauce that was supposed to come on top of the pesto to be on the side instead. The last time I came with a large group for a special eating event, and each dish was great! The first two visits I ordered a dessert from a tray, both of which were just so-so. However, my friend and I ordered the chocolate souffle when we went, which was incredible and which I HIGHLY recommend. I do have one bone to pick with Spaggi's. I really wish they would list the restaurant's hours on the website and on Yelp. I left them a message on the phone tonight, and I hope they will fix that issue because otherwise their restaurant is wonderful. :) read more

A great new find for us new to the neighborhood. This place has great food, great staff and really great ambiance. Food is a little pricey but what you'd expect for this type of dining. Started off with the Wagyu Beef Raviolli $15 which was delicious. We split the Chilean Sea Bass plate $39 and it was a perfect portion. Fish was cooked to.perfection and the flavor was amazing. Even the vegetables had a light and taste sauce. Finished off the night with the pineapple upside dow cake / vanilla ice cream. We'll definitely be back. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants. I know the food will always be good and so will the service. Went Saturday for my birthday and it was great. Food was excellent. I had my usual of Italian pot roast most delicious. My husband had the tomahawk. This seems like it is becoming more popular at restaurants and have seem it at some ridiculous prices, however here was well worth the price. You don't just get an enormous piece of beef, but large sides to go with it. It came with a large bowl of mashed potatoes and a large bowl of mixed vegetables. The sides fit the steak. All well under 100.00. I have been to other restaurants that serve just the steak with no sides for 125.00. I look for great food plus great value. They also had a new appetizer. A tortellini dish that was awesome. So another great meal at Spaggis. Adding to this review because my son and I went here for lunch. 1st time going for lunch and we generally go for dinner. It was excellent as usual. I had linguine and clams. Pasta cooked well, sauce very buttery. Also had the tomato and beet salad which is my favorite, absolutely love this salad. Fresh heirloom tomatoes and red and golden beets layered with goat cheese and fresh mozzarella topped with mixed greens with a balsamic drizzle. Delicious. My son had a pasta dish that was a special, linguine with Greek veggies and the wedge salad. Great food and service. read more

Went here last night for dinner. Been here many times befor because my partner lives in Upland. It's fine that it's in a non descriptive mini mall, it's more that once you enter it's underwhelming. Decor said (lack of a full bar a problem as I was in the mood for a martini). Settled on a Prosecco rose which came in a small bottle. Fine. I've ordered many items before. Always good. Better than most you will find in Upland. We had the champagne corn soup to start. I was expecting a smooth soup with small pieces of corn. Received a regular bowl of soup that had corn in it. My other had the ahi (very good although heavy handed with the sauce which masked the delicate flavor of the ahi. ) had an iceberg sald which was fine. I ordered the Ribeye (I was assured it was prime) but when it arrived, it was cooked perfectly but tough. The sauces that came with it were terrible, I could not eat both (I asked for both to try). My other had the beef short rib which as good. Every time I've eaten here the vegetable that come with every meal are not overcooked but t have no flavor. The vegetables are always an afterthought. They are presented steamed I believe with NO FLAVOR. The ratio of mashed potato to steak was to small to complement a bit of steak with a bite of potato. On the other hand the short ribs came on a bed of massive potatoes. So disappointing. The dessert was a soufflé heavy as a brick (not a soufflé at all, more a heavy chocolate dessert.) Will still go back as Upland is short on good restaurants. Living in Pasadena and accustomed to eating at very good restaurants on the west side of LA, I'm usually disappointed with the offerings in the area. I entered open minded but was disappointed. Don't expect an excellent meal, expect a decent one. The shrimp scampi is good. This restaurant is just short of consistently good. Sorry to say. read more

Ordered lasagna, penne dalle vigne de fillippi (pasta with artichokes, asparagus, and sun-dried tomatoes), and a chocolate souffle. The gentleman who answered the phone was very polite and so kind as to take my order despite the fact that it was near closing time. When I arrived to pick up the food, I noticed the restaurant was taking very good COVID precautions with staff in masks, signs encouraging social distancing, and plenty of hand sanitizer available for customer use. The staff (and someone who I assume was the owner) were warm and kind and even provided a small box of cookies as an extra treat. 5 stars for the wonderful service. I'd have liked more asparagus in the penne, but the lasagna tasted very authentic and I enjoyed the tomato chunks and ricotta. Thank you for a great experience! read more
