To know it is to love it. It's not glitzy, It's not bougie and it's very divey. But that's what I like about it. What I love about it, is that they open at 6am. But enough about me. One of my favorite bartenders I love to go in and shoot the shit with is Lisa. She works both here and at the one on Mountain. Super cool and friendly. My other favorite is Alicia. The first thing you notice when you walk in is how pretty she is. But she isn't "unapproachable" I've only seen her a few times but she already knows what I drink when I walk in. I'm glad I got to see the debut of Bite the Bullet live, right here in upland! The Hi-Brow was a great place for live music and drinks right here in Upland, tucked away in an unassuming shopping center. The band was high energy right away with a great vocalist singing familiar yet fresh songs all night. I had a lot of fun trying different drinks with the friendly bartender (my fav mix that night was a simple vodka, sprite and watermelon syrup). They redid their four pool tables and it's amazing love going there such an amazing dive bar with great service and locals!

It's a dive bar with a small group of people there on a Saturday night. It's a super low key place with a handful regulars, it seems. There are paid pool tables in the back, free popcorn, and lots of TVs. Sign outside was off so seemed closed but was not. Supposed to be live music on Fridays and Saturdays but I guess the band cancelled the night we went. We had a few beers and played some pool. Website made it seem like a lounge or less divey. Loud enough for multiple customers to hear. I think it's disgusting for a person to be saying stuff like that in general, but for it to happen at your place of business... extremely uncalled for. Small place near Claremont. The door is kind of hidden in a chain link fence. Once you are inside it is an old school type of bar with a nice modem digital juke box. Every one is cheerful and happy meeting up with friends. No ones causing trouble. I would guess the day I was there on a Sat after a concert the people there were 30-58 years old. Stopped in with a buddy on a Friday night and was pleasantly surprised. The women bar-tending were super nice and quick with the drink orders. You can get straight shots, beers and a few mixed drinks right away. I was bummed that four of the maybe twelve taps were completely out of beer, limiting our selection, but...oh well. It wasn't like we couldn't drink ANY beer. I have to say though, their "craft" beer (shock top) isn't cheap.... There's a designated smoking room, which I thought was a great idea. It's right next to the pool area, where my buddy and I decided to hang around. A game of pool only costs $1.00 and the table won't keep the cue ball if you scratch (which, you know we did because it's been years since either of us played). The crowd was a good mix of 20's, 30's, 40's and everything beyond (there was even a guy that was like 80 walking through at one point - HEY, you're NEVER too old...right?). The patrons were all having a good time within their group. There was live music and the band wasn't that bad. They even took a few requests here and there. Would I come back? If playing a few games of pool while chugging down Bud Lights is my goal, absolutely. read more

this was one of my stops after trick or treating on halloween night cause my friend and i just wanted to grab a drink. i feel as though they have a decent selection here, just the basics... nothing too fancy, but not THAT bad... i asked for a gobstopper, and our kind bartender didnt know how to make it.. .and she suggested something else that 'tastes just like it' .. .. srry but it didnt.. it tasted like Robitussin -_- but at least it wasnt a weak drink, i suppose.. .. it was now that my friend informs me that theyre not known for 'yummy' drinks, but rather just cheap alchy that gets you the buzz... teheehee we also got the flaming dr. pepper, which has mainly beer, a lil kahlua, a lil amaretto, rootbeer schnapps, and a tinny bit of 151 to light it on fiiireee!! i dont think our kind bartender put in enough, cause we had trouble lighting it.. .. nevertheless it was still yummmy just like a dr. pepper!!!!!!!!!! I used to love coming to this bar because it's a lowkey spot to get some drinks, watch sports or play some pool with a couple of friends. I went in on a Friday night & a live show went on! Great, right? Since the bar was full it took the bartenders a bit longer to notice the other customers and I stood by the bar trying to gain one of the bartenders attention for around 15 min. and it's especially frustrating when they purposefully ignore you to cater to their favorite customers. I ordered a drink for me and my friend, as we were about to play pool but went back to close my tab only to see the bartender overcharge my card! This is a 5 star dive bar. Not a 5 star bar. BIG difference. A 5 star bar makes a killer Manhattan. A 5 star dive bar has to be told how to make a Manhattan. The former has bouncers to keep the riff raff out. The latter has only riff raff for patrons. You get the idea. Been here like 5 times over the last year. Typical dive bar is typical. The alcohol is cheap and the people range from quirky to strange, and there's always a mixture of age groups in the crowd, from your college students to your old timers who are always ready to pop out a story. The waitress' are nice and so are the bar tenders. The atmosphere is ick and the bar is tucked way back in the center, but despite the way it looks on the inside the neighborhood is pretty clean (take my word for it, I live here). Went here one time with my friend Joe in the earliest 90's. It was divey, and it continues to be so as 8.APR.2017. Was here with a meetup group. They had 24 oz cans of PBR, which is usually a welcome sign to my Americana bar life. Compact and in the back corner of a small business park, it could be easy to miss. I find that a plus. It is like knowing where the secret water hole to swim is located. If you like busy and kind of crowded, this can be ideal. I got my beer quick. read more

Mediocre. I liked the prompt service and the fact that this place is more hidden and it was relatively empty the night I visited. It made it perfect to catch up with my cousin. There are also pool tables for $1 in quarters (there is a change machine) and apparently free pool Monday's. :) Lost a couple stars because some people there were creepy and they don't do very good nonalcoholic drinks (shout out to the designated drivers). read more

Talk about a total dive! I didn't know it as a fresh-faced 21-year-old college kid, but the times I came here were my early induction into dive bar life. Hi Brow is dark and has mostly small (2-4 person) high-up tables, as well as the loud music and cheap, strong drinks you'd expect at a divey place. The crowd is very mixed and laid back enough that anyone can fit in here, and the bartenders are pretty friendly. If you go in expecting a dive bar experience and not a fancy bar, you'll probably be happy with Hi Brow. My main complaint is that Hi Brow seems to allow smoking. The bar was big and aired out enough that it didn't completely ruin my experiences here, but it definitely detracted from it. read more

My last review seemed incomplete. I guess the drink must have been exceptionally strong. The HI Brow in Upland does make the strongest drink in my experience and it is a great place. They have pool tables, an outside room that is screened in where you can smoke (I think) and the atmosphere is casual. I find it perfect to meet someone at just to have a drink or two or three. Adam and Jill are two of the bartenders that I know that have been there for years and they are super friendly and personable. Oh and they also have a popcorn machine that makes great popcorn.
