Well I had an eye appointment and new glasses in 2 days, however, you pay for it. Being that i just came up on some dough recently and as much as I love my hello kitty glasses, my boyfriend makes fun of me for them often and I figured, he might be on to something...I dont NEED glasses perse...I prefer glasses for when Im using the computer since my eyes get very fatigued, to the point of double vision in a matter of hours. So, my appt was a breeze, the optometrist (dude) was cool and super friendly/informative. They have a lot of frames in store to choose from, and I, of course, chose gucci frames. I seriously miss this optometry clinic. I think I took it for granted while I lived in Toronto. Everyone here is amazingly friendly and welcoming. I used to see Dr Wilkinson, who was equally friendly and very professional. One thing that stands out in my memory is one occasion when I made an emergency appointment because of severe eye strain and pain. Dr Wilkinson was accommodating and able to see me despite a very last minute request, and he even told the reception not to charge me for the visit. I was so impressed! What a great experience! I looked online for a few days, researching many different optometry offices and doctors. I am use to my bi annual appointments with my families eye doctor but since moving downtown on my own it was time for me to find my own doctors. I chose Spadina Optometry based on the location to my residence. I booked an appointment through email which is very convenient especially for me who is busy at work all day. I was answered in a timely manner and the girl was very kind over email and all the girls were very welcoming when I arrived. Buttercup is a great addition to this office, very kind and welcoming as well. Great idea to have a little office dog. I was quickly put into a examination room where a very kind girl did some tests on my eyes, she was very kind, funny and personable. Fantastic personality. I had Dr. Wilkinson, I cant explain to you how amazing this doctor is and I only saw him for the first time last week. I have never been more comfortable with a doctor, I have never been explained things to the extent he did. The pictures of the back of your eye they take is something new for me and his explanation of what I was looking was incredible. He is very kind and approachable and it comes across that he genuinely cares for each of his patients. He really sat down with me and went over what my concerns were and how to make me more comfortable when wearing my glasses. He has a great personality and is very kind. The level of help and service I was given during a busy office time was amazing! I would highly recommend going to see him and his staff. I neglected to do my research on pricing before coming here, otherwise I would've chosen somewhere else. The staff is great and the service was quick. I just think the overall eye examination is way over-priced, as I've paid under $100 for the exact same type of examinations at other optometrists. All I really paid for was convenience of location, as it's right across the street from where I work. Unfortunately, I don't think the price is worth coming back. read more

I was referred to Dr. David Wilkinson (the other optometrist practicing at this office) by my family doctor and I am glad he did. This optometrist office is centrally located (just a short walk from my office), and the staff there are extremely friendly and courteous, and the waiting area/optical store is comfortable (good selection of music playing) -- though I wished they have a bigger and more current selection of magazines as there is usually a short wait to see the optometrist. I didn't see the office mascot when I was there, but it's really cool that they have a dog there. The staff is very accomodating in scheduling appointments and were very easy to deal with when I had to change my appointment at the last minute -- I actually had to change my appointment twice in one day! Dr. Wilkinson is very professional, thorough, approachable and knowledgable. I was there for a minor emergency appointment and Dr. Wilkinson treated my emergency very well. David Wilkinson is an unbelievable optometrist. In 24 years of wearing contacts I've never had someone take so much care in treating me. He was thorough, explained everything in regular language, and made sure the issue I had was resolved by bringing me back in twice just to be sure. The staff are also fantastic. I'm a big fan of Dr. Heeney. She is pleasant, knowledgeable, thorough and patient. Here's only one example: I had laser eye surgery about 15 years ago which resulted in one eye seeing blurry close up and at a distance. My old optometrist (fairly smart guy I assumed since he used to teach Cornea at U of T) said there was nothing that could be done and I accepted that for many years until I decided to try Dr Heeney a year or so ago. Not only did she come up with a solution (RGP lens) but she persisted, fitting me with different models until I had a good match. She also takes the time to explain things in layman's terms. I made a yelp account just so I can review them. This place isn't all that. I went after reading all the reviews despite seeing few bad ones. Yes, the staff are friendly but only two of them. I bought two glasses one for mom and one for myself. Since my glasses were ready I asked them to keep them and call me when my mom's were ready. But they never bothered to call back. On top of that they were lying that they actually called and that no one picked up. Why was there no message on the voicemail then? They never once apologised and kept repeating the lie. I mean why should they, since we already paid? NOT! I refunded the glasses. read more

Booked an appointment. Called to let them know I would be 5-10 mins late. They told me I would have to rebook as I'm supposed to be 10 mins early for my appointment which I was never told at the time of booking. The eye exam was very thorough and the doctor I saw was very nice and gave me a lot of time I believe it was Dr. Wilkinson. But one of the staff members I dealt with was really condescending and ruined the entire experience. When I made the appointment I specifically inquired if they excepted ODSP coverage, which they do. When it came time to leave she said "that will be $150". But I am covered for exams. "you should have told me before, you're supposed to let me know first"! and her entire demeanor changed and suddenly I am reduced to a street bum with pee stained pants in her eyes. It was shocking. It's not something that I am used to experiencing and don't intend to experience again. People that believe they are much better than others because they have a nice cushy job...you are no better than anyone else...in fact you may be worse.... read more

I booked an eye exam at Spadina Optometry a month in advance. I arrived at my appointment only to find out that my appointment was never entered into the system. The girl at the desk had my email thread up on the computer with my confirmation email, but told me whoever booked me didn't actually enter it into the system. I asked if there was any way the Optometrist could see me, and she simply told me no. After I explained I left work early for this appointment, she was extremely rude and didn't offer as much as an apology even though it was very clear, this was their mistake. She told me that the next available appointment was in a month. Very frustrating experience that could have been turned around with the slightest bit of friendly customer service...but unfortunately that was not the case. read more

Outstanding service! Quick and very professional. Probably paid a little more for the glasses and lenses... but the frames are still perfect after a decade. Almost bullet proof, even though they are light and flexible. I like the lens better as well, as I purchased a back up pair from a chain. Really impressed with this place. Although I was certainly happy with my eye exam, I was particularly impressed with the help I received out of the floor, picking out new glasses. While Dr Heeney might be nice, the staff lacks customer services skills and my experience was not good. Upon arriving for an appointment, I was told there was nothing in the schedule, even though I called 3 weeks in advance. Instead of finding a solution so I didn't have to waste my trip, I was simply told she was booked for the remainder of the day and all that could be done is rebook it. Seriously people? How disrespectful! Clearly they do not need my business, so I ain't coming back. read more
