I've been a loyal patient of this clinic for over 5 years and today I was told that my appointment is not his their system and so I have to reschedule. I did make an appointment and I did show the confirmation to the person at the front desk. But still I was told that next time I should call... This morning, in the midst of covid-19, I came to the University Eye Clinic for eye tests. The people there were very professional and took great care to be safe during this epidemic both for patients and themselves. It is a well run clinic if you're downtown Toronto. I booked an appointment online for an eye exam and requested Dr.Facchin when I booked. Note that I do not wear glasses or contacts, this was my first ever eye exam. The building itself is currently undergoing some construction on the outside and it is difficult to locate, however, some nice people directed me the right way! For those who don't know it's in the concourse, or if you are coming from outside go down the stars by the Swiss Chalet sign, this is through the doors to the right. I was greeted and quickly checked in. I forgot to bring my health card, but that was fine. I filled out some paperwork and was brought into a waiting area, had some photos of my eye taken. The con here was that you had to bring your jacket and belongings with you, there is no place to put it and the receptionist does not confirm which doctor will see you until the doctor calls you in. Dr. Facchin is great, he took time to listen to my questions (which were many) and explained the state of my eye and what the eye drops were for. He gave me 100% confidence that he knew what he was talking about. Bonus he is funny too! If I needed to go back I would go here and book Dr. Facchin. read more

This was my go-to place to buy glasses. Today, it changed all that. I went in with a shopping partner - we BOTH wanted to buy glasses. Not peruse. Not contemplate. BUY GLASSES. It was busy in the glasses shop there, but there were MULTIPLE times that the man sales guy looked me STRAIGHT IN THE EYES and didn't say: "Hi" "Be with you in a bit when I'm done with this person" "Are you looking to buy something? I can get someone to help you" "Do you want to sit here and I'll come by when I can" or any other greeting or acknowledgement. We could tell he was busy with customers. That's okay. For a brief 5 minutes, one woman came and helped us out and then disappeared without another word -- literally in the middle of selling to us, she just walked off and never came back. Finally, after 20 or so minutes of being ignored, I asked the sales guy, "Do you think we can get someone to help us? We want to buy glasses." He rolled his eyes and said, "I'm really busy. You'll have to wait." Nope. Nope, I don't have to. Glasses are not a rare commodity. Stores that sell glasses are all over Toronto. I am a patient of Dr Facchin's at the Eye Clinic, and I used to recommend this store to everyone - but if a customer comes directly TO YOU and asks to be helped -- at the very least be polite. So rather than a routine eye exam, I came calling with an eye infection: red, inflamed, and some discharge. Not pretty. That same morning I used the online system to book an appointment within 30 mins., and Dr. Facchin fixed me right up with a prescription for eye drops. Surprisingly, he booked me for two (free) follow-ups (one week apart) to make sure it's all good. I appreciate that level of care. My eyes are much better. O_O read more

I wish I had the opportunity to give them 4 1/2 stars. They are 'almost perfect.' One of my minor complaints, and I repeat minor, is that although I paid extra for the 'contact lens exam,' I guess because I said I couldn't afford to buy the contact lenses at this time, the doc didn't give me a trial pair and when I was given my prescription there was no info included about my contact lens prescription. It was a bit irritating that when I contacted the secretary she had to 'check with the doc' to see if she could release that. I wasn't in a rush for that info - so it didn't matter that I had to wait until the doc was in again. But where I DO have to give the optometrist extra points is he was VERY patient with my many, many extra questions (I've got Aspergers - and wanted to make sure I had ALL the info I needed to buy glasses online - because although the optician attached to this clinic is probably typical in terms of prices for frames and lenses here in Canada - it is many, many, many times more expensive than you will pay at an online glasses website like Zenni Optical.) So Dr Solo was very patient with me and took the extra time to give me the EXACT prescription I wanted - which was distance glasses that were focuses specifically to a distance of 11 feet (which is precisely how far away from me where my TV sits), and he also calculated for me the power of glasses I would need for 'computer glasses' - ie, glasses focuses at about 3 feet in front of me. But what was really nice of him was that he measured my PD for me - and this info is required for you to buy lenses and glasses online. My understanding is that many, maybe even most optometrists (and opticians) are hesitant to give you that info - probably because they want to push you into buying glasses at the opticians that is associated closely with the optometrist (and I think they want to hobble the cheap online glasses companies. So after I got my prescription, I got impatient and checked how much more I would pay for frames and lenses at one of the 'make the glasses while you wait places' - and after I found out the price - and after I picked myself up off the floor - I went straight back to Zenni Opticals website and paid less for 4 pairs of glasses (including two pairs with polycarbonate lenses - and one of the prescriptions being progressive.) So I ordered glasses online, but they'll take a week, so when I realized that my old prescription (for my old glasses that I'm currently wearing - well when I realized how far off it is from what I need now - and I realized that I wasn't seeing anywhere near as close to clearly the expensive big TV I bought a while ago - well I went back to University Eye Clinic and bought a box of 90 contact lenses - because they had them in stock so I could see clearly all weekend. (Did I mention that I've got NO patience at all.) Oh - and the only other minor quibble is the eye testing involved getting drops in your eyes that expand your iris - so you will see blurry for 2 to 4 hours after the exam - and when the doc shone the light in my eye to check the back of my eye for various diseases - the light was so bright it was rather torturous. But I think this allows this optometrist to do a better job and more complete examination than some of my previous exams. I did get the impression that the exam was more complete. Which was definitely what I wanted - and what you will probably appreciate too. read more

A well-oiled machine where you are rapidly moved from station to station and yet still get a fair amount of time with a real optometrist. Overall the experience was good. My one sticking point is that quite suddenly in the middle of the exam they placed me in front of a machine to examine my retina and said "We'd like to do a retinal scan with our newest laser scanner. It will cost an extra $40." I felt put on the spot since I was already in the room with my pupils dilated. I had no advanced warning of this and had done no research on how truly useful the procedure is. Despite doing the procedure I got a traditional retina exam afterwards anyway. I did more research afterwards and the jury is still out on whether this type of scanning is of real medical use (whether it significantly adds to what the doctor would see manually and whether its has actually led to any improvements in diagnosis). The experience made me feel that feeling of being on a used car lot where I was suddenly badgered to pay for rust-proofing just two minutes before signing on the dotted line. Otherwise the place is clean, convenient, and the staff are efficient and friendly. read more

The optometrists at this clinic are certainly very professional and thorough. A complete eye exam goes much further here than anywhere else I've had my eyes checked. They'll do your normal "which one is better" tests as well as dilating your pupils, imaging your retinas and having an optometrist do a manual check. I also found the online booking system very helpful. The fee for an eye exam includes the price of all these extra tests, so decide whether you think they're necessary. I would recommend this clinic to anyone who knows or suspects that they have vision problems beyond just near- or far-sightedness. If you're just looking for a routine checkup, though, I think you could do a little better for your money. In particular for students, although the location and booking system are convenient, I'd suggest shopping around a little harder. read more

I have problem eyes (bad prescription and severe allergies) and am quite particular with my medical doctors. So, I was extra cautious when I decided to visit this clinic for my eye exam. I simply could not make it down to my old doctor as it would have been a half day visit due to distance. But my fears were erased when I was treated by Dr. Facchin and his crew. Everyone was so professional and friendly. Also, they were ON TIME. And they did all the necessary tests - some tests were done by different people who were specialized in that particular equipment. I think I did more tests on my eye than I did at my previous doctor(s)! Hence, I felt it was very thorough and comprehensive and that I was serviced by people that really knew their job. Dr. Facchin himself took his time to answer my questions and fitted me nicely with a new set of lenses. He also gave a lot of advice on how to deal with my allergies. There was a slight mishap in that they forgot to place my lenses in time but they corrected it by giving me a new pair for free. Overall, I am very pleased and have already made numerous recommendations to this place. Note that they give discounts to students. Also, they make glasses on site. Their prices for both contacts and glasses are reasonable. They also have doctors that perform surgery at this clinic but I am not one of their patients. read more

Very good material , competent and nice optometrists. Happy with this! Not 5 because clearly reception staff should make some effort , be more polite and courteous. when one is on the phone and won' t even look at you, the other one just stares at some papers to avoid seeing you and not even say "hello, welcome to our clinic". I almost left without notice! Same when you leave with dilated pupils and are not at all told what is printed on the papers they give you. So my family and I have been coming to this clinic to have our eyes checked, glasses made for the last ten years. Doctor Peter Solo and the entire is staff is competent, helpful and really plugged into all things eye health related. You would not expect the their frames to be super stylish, however, their selection has never disappointed. It is a little known secret, but they carry super trendy frames a la the ones you would pay $500 dollars for at super reasonable prices. Their service is both friendly and non pushy. I put in an order for lenses yesterday and my frames were on my face this morning by noon. I once broke my frames twice in one year and they replaced them, no questions asked. If you have not figured it out by now, I am a fan. read more

I was in and out in less than an hour. The flow of patients was well choreographed and I was reassured of COVID protocols at each turn. I bought 2 beautiful pairs of Dior frames and had them outfitted with my prescription almost immediately. I was so impressed at their customer service focus and their professionalism. I've been visiting Eye clinics for 25 years and have been mostly inconvenienced (wrong prescription, having to return after a week for my glasses). Highly recommend. read more

Great place for an eye exam. I do agree that the reception girls should try harder to be friendly and they process you like you don't exist. One word of caution, avoid ordering from the on-site optician. Bad service and it takes way too long to get the glasses. I am at 10 days and counting. I just came back from a visit with the University Eye Clinic and was very impressed with the service. The online booking system worked perfectly. I saw Dr. Budianto for an eye appointment and she was lovely; very professional, thorough and friendly. She described each test to me and my results, as well as providing me with sample contacts to try for my astigmatism. I also had a chance to visit the eyewear department, and Brian was extremely helpful finding me reasonably-priced glasses to match my style . The glasses were finished with a remarkable turn-around time (20 minutes or so), and so I was able to have an eye appointment and receive my updated prescription and glasses within the same visit. Now that is truly exemplary service! I am delighted to have found this clinic and will bring the rest of my family here too. read more

I visited University Eye Clinic that was recommended from a colleague of mine. He raved about the staff and in particular Dr. Facchin. Very courteous staff and Dr. Facchin has an amazing bed side manner. He is very thorough with his explanation of the tests he gives. A vast variety of frames and not overly prices. The exam itself costs a little more but you safe a lot on the lenses and frames. I look forward to my next visit. I highly recommend this practice. read more

The optometrist (Peter Solo) gave me a wrong prescription. When I went to his office to have it corrected, this OD Peter Solo refused to re-measure and said to me:" if you know your BC (base curve), whey did you not tell me earlier?" I was in shock. First of all, he did not ask me in my visit. Secondly, the reason why I went to see a optometrist was to get a new prescription and to see whether there has been any changes. If you are just going to follow the old prescription without measuring my eyes, why would patients go to see you in the first place? I am filing a official complaint to the College of Optometrists of Ontario. Hopefully they will do something so that this does not happen to other people who try to get help from this clinic. read more

I know that the doctor's at the eye clinic are amazing. My complaint is not about them. It is about the unprofessional customer service at the front desk when you check in. I have something stuck in my right eye. I came by this morning to see if someone could see me. I explained the situation and they told me, to just wait a minute. So I waited. After all that time, they said they couldn't see me. Meanwhile, another patient that had walked in as well, they were able to take. Then as I waited, I overheard the other girl at the front desk announce that another male patient had not shown up for his appointment. So if he didn't show up, why couldn't I fill that spot? How can you tell me that I can't be seen, when someone didn't show up for their appointment? The girls at the front desk are unprofessional and need some training. They stand there whispering and chatting and make people just wait. It is unfortunate because the doctors are amazing. read more

I have been going to this clinic for over 10 years. I have an ophthalmic condition which requires me to go every 6 months. I see Dr. Facchin and Dr. Yan on alternate appointments. I only have high praises for both doctors, they are very professional and are also very pleasant to talk to and take the time to answer my questions. I went today for my 6 month appointment which was with Dr. Facchin and usually, I don't have to wait very long to see him after doing all the other tests that I need. I am only in his office for less than 5 minutes since my appointments are all follow-ups and monitoring my condition. Today, the assistants scheduled a family of four people before me for a complete eye exam which meant that I had to wait close to 2 hours before seeing the doctor (for 5 minutes). Their appointment time was later than mine but still, the assistants made me wait while I could have seen the doctor for my regular 5 minutes appointment before them. It would have taken no time at all. I tried to explain that to the assistant afterwards but she was not responsive and not very helpful. Even Dr. Facchin apologized to me and said there must have been a problem with scheduling. I am always ready to be patient because I know there are a lot of other people but in this case, I was not happy with the situation. I needed a new optometrist and got referred to Dr. Budianto. She was simply amazing. I have been in a few times now and I am more than satisfied with the service I got. Explanations were clear, and staff was great and competent too. Prices are more than competitive, and considering they are right downtown, this is a big plus for them. I have had great service and after-sale service, but was dealing with 2 of the girls working there. read more

On-time, punctual staff; excellent and knowledgeable doctor (Dr. Facchine)--moreover, another young doctor also helped with several tests (she seemed to be a specialist with certain machines?). Even the receptionist was helpful in triple-verifying that I fully understood the procedure with my new contact lens case and solution (the solution uses hydrogen peroxide, and so this could easily go horribly wrong with poor instruction). Unfortunately, such personal attention and care is rare today, but needless to say, I was more than pleasantly surprised by this staff. Finally, I can't stress enough how convenient and helpful the online booking is (the student discount doesn't hurt, either!); other clinics and medical offices (of all kinds) really should adopt this system. Dr Facchin is wonderful, I wish I could continue seeing him without having to go through the front desk staff. unfortunately my last experience at this place was so dreadful that I am having to leave Dr Facchin and find a new optometrist. Even after I voiced my complaint, the receptionist did not apologize or do anything to renew my confidence in this institution. I find some of front desk people borderline rude and I truly get the feeling that they do not care about you as a client. This has been the overall feeling I have gotten from these people since I started coming here about three years ago. Normally I wouldn't return to a place that gave me this treatment, but I still wanted to see Dr Facchin. I will not be retuning to the University Eye Clinic, and I will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I am a student and can barely afford to go to the eye doctor ever. But I have some coverage under my tuition, so I thought I would go here to get my prescription updated. While the staff are all friendly and professional, their prices are ridiculous. I was informed before the appointment that it would cost $160.00, which is already almost double the price of any other office's prices, but I reluctantly agreed. During the exam, I was told another scan was going to be done for an extra $40.00, but I refused. At the end of the appointment I was charged $235.00, and when I asked why it had changed the receptionist said because I had a contact lens tutorial there. That would have been fine, had I been informed of the additional $75.00 fee beforehand. I am thousands of dollars in debt already and this insane cost for a simple updated prescription was NOT worth it and I would absolutely not recommend going here if you are at all worried about your finances. My health plan only covers 75.00, which is about a third of the total price I paid. read more

Super efficient stream-lined care. Love that you can make appointments online. The staff all seem very competent and friendly - even though I only go there once or twice a year, they always seem to remember me so that I don't even really have to tell them my name when I am there! Most impressive of all, when my contacts were back-ordered because I am extremely myopic and it needs to be custom-ordered, they not only gave me a trial pair to use for free in the meantime, but they also called me to update me along the way in terms of their progress in obtaining my lenses which I really appreciated. The only thing I can think of to make them even better is if they can file your insurance in for you, but I'm not sure if any eye places to that, so maybe that's asking too much. All in all, would definitely recommend this place for your optometry care! read more

bad bad bad. The doctors are amazing, once you go through the cattle maze. You get shoved into a double walled room and have a personal eye exam with other people less than a foot away. Awful. Crammed in. This is all about the most amount of people in the least amount of time. MacDonlads. Getting drops in your eyes yes is part of an eye exam and yes your vision is compromised for a short time. However that is when you are herded over to the eye glass area to choose frames. When your eye are least able to focus. Bad bad bad bad. I needed glassed and since my prescription has changed in the five years since I last purchased glasses I decided on impulse to purchase them there. bad bad bad. Both a regular pair for reading and my first progressive lenses. Both were garbage. both were over $500 so run run away from this place and if you really think you have a problem with your eyes then schedule an apt with one of the doctors and prepared to be shoved around like cattle. read more

They book several appointments around the same times, so my interaction with the optometrist was very rushed (not even so much as a handshake). Aside from the minimal customer service and lack of smiles, the pricing is ridiculous - my simple eye exam cost $200 (my last clinic was half that). I went into the university optometry clinic and the guy there was amazing. he crazy glued my glasses together so I continue my work shift, helped me picking a new pair of glasses that I love, and had them ready when I was done working, And I have a really strong prescription like a -800.....so If you're looking for an large selection of frames and AMAZING service this place is the place to go.... read more

When I actually called to check, he left a message and said "we didn't call you because we don't have your phone number." which I am sure I left when I gave my address as well. I've been a customer since 1997 or so. I've always had a good experience with them and I find that they are quick and efficient when filling prescriptions. My most recent pair of frames broke at the weld after a couple of months and they had it fixed in a few days. read more

I had my eyes tested elsewhere, and ended up at University Eye Clinic to choose frames having been to all the usual suspects and been disappointed with the choice available. University Eye Clinic have a really excellent range of frames, lots to choose from - and prices are very reasonable all round. The place seems to be busy all the time, so it's popular. I've been wearing glasses since junior high and really got fed up wearing them. I decided to do laser treatment to get rid of them and went to a clinic. They told me about the treatment cost and, since they had other appointments, scheduled my treatment for a week after. I was kinda obsessed about the glasses, so I went to University Eye Clinic (expecting for an earlier date for the treatment) and they took some tests and enquired whether the power of my eyes varied or not. Doc advised me not to go for the laser now because the varying power might create problems after lasers. He suggested some treatments and tips, and told to hold the thought of lasers till the power remains constant. read more
