I have been going to The Toronto Eye Clinic on Bloor Street in The Manulife for 5 years! I initially walked in "off the street," to inquire about my "runny ,blood shots eyes..." The gal at the front desk ( her name is Lisa Andriano ) squeezed me in somehow ; and I saw Dr Di Marco ! The office is immaculate and was super busy that day ! Lisa ( who I later found out was the Clinic Manager ) somehow saw me in distress ,got me in quickly ,and ,my issue was resolved ! Dr Di Marco is brilliant, "thorough" , and so calming to talk to .. I have been through cataract surgery , regular visits and my eyes have improved immensely! This review is specific to an Optometrist who is female - only one on ataff. Will not name this person but feel that I have to share my ex poo experience. Recently I attended my 1st sllintment for a standard vision test. I have never worn glasses - and was having some cloudiness and floaters in my right eye. Within 10 minutes of the examination she declared thar she was reporting me to the Ministry of Transportation! This was my first eye exam in years and unfortunately I booked an appointment at Toronto Eyewear. My initial contact was positive and very welcoming. However, it became very clear that customer/patient service was limited to administration. The examination was divided into segments - with the technician and the specialist. Communication was not the strong suit of either of the professionals. Overall, one of the worst experiences I have had with a health professional. The service was rushed and impersonal - like being in a hospital emergency room. Had very little experience with vision specialists in my life. Never required glasses and booked to ascertain why my right eye was cloudy. The clinic is located in the Manulife Centre in mid-town Toronto. The fee for the retinal imaging was a whopping $165.00 - mandatory to secure appointment. Will never return to this business. read more

I called first thing in the morning on a weekend asking for an appointment for an eye-exam. They were completely booked for the day and helped me make an appointment for the next weekend. I was emailed some forms to complete before the visit. I came in first thing in the morning the next Saturday, with my completed forms in hand, and saw immediately. There was a small number of tests and I was pretty much done. My prescription was the same as my previous one, so there isn't a whole lot to say about about what I think about the service I received. Dr. Di Marco was very nice and explained what she was doing and seeing, etc. during my exam. A few of the tests were different from eye exams at other places. I noticed that they didn't include a visual field test though. Then I was helped to pick glasses and contacts. I initially placed an order for glasses. Claire was great at helping me narrow down the set of glasses to work with and then helping me to figure out what lens I would want etc. The price for the glasses were a little high, so I was debating between getting a new pair vs just replacing the glasses I had (to have bifocals now). After I ordered the new glasses and left, I had a change of heart and came back later in the afternoon and asked to cancel the order and get contacts instead. They were happy to do that. One reason for the switch was because the high price for the glasses, but the second reason was that I wasn't overly excited with the look. The options were limited, and I figured since I wasn't overly excited about the pair, I might end up not really using it. Thinking because I had the prescription, I could order it remotely or online. As it turns out, prescriptions aren't really that useful that way. I didn't realize that the pupillary distance (PD) is something that's needed when ordering glasses. That does *not* come with the prescription here. I asked if they can look at the glasses that I ordered/cancelled for the measurements (since it had to be measured for the order), but was told I can't get that because the PD wasn't recorded. So for anyone that is looking to come in for an eye exam to get a prescription to order glasses: 1) if you plan on getting glasses here afterwards, come check out the glasses options first. See if they have glasses you might want. 2) if you plan on getting glasses elsewhere, make sure they can help you measure your PD (most places should be able to do that in person). 3) if you plan on getting glasses online/remotely, you'll have to figure out how to measure your PD yourself and/or get someone else to do it. I'm not sure if there are any places that measure and give out PD measurements (it seems like it's not something that most doctors and eye care clinic want to give out, and they seem to want people to order at a brick and mortar store instead of online). But if you do want to order glasses online/remotely, maybe ask the eye care clinic if they can help you measure and give you your PD as well for that purpose. Overall, I came in, got an eye exam, got a new prescription (which was basically the same as my previous) and was able to order more contacts with it. I have a prescription that I can use for new glasses, but I will need to go to a store that has glasses that I want and get my PD measured there to use with this prescription. read more

Got to Yelp about this place. I purchased a pair of glasses online, and wore them to this store. Right off the back, the attendant/technician? "Claire" mentioned that they weren't the right frames for me, and then explained why. My last pair of glasses were an issue, but I never knew why. The online pair had the a similar issue (ill-fitting), and Claire explained what significance the numbers that one arm of the frames had. (I was choosing frames where the bridge was too wide, so they naturally rested on a level lower than how frames are usually worn). She spoke with me about a couple of major pitfalls of purchasing eyewear online - that the PD/pupillary distance is usually inaccurate, and that the center of the lens is unnoticed with online eyewear purchases -- they create the lens in a generic way, even though the center of vision isn't usually symmetrical/parallel for both eyes. I plan on getting a pair of frames, and having the lens created here. I'd rather avoid headaches / undue stress on the eyes, by having the lens measure exactly the way I need them to for my set of eyes. Worth an extra $100 to get this accuracy, in my opinion. For the sake of your eyes' health, I recommend that you look into purchasing the frames that fit you well and a pair of lens from a reputable place, so that both the frames and the lens sit at the right level. ~~ The only downside is that their inventory of frame selection is limited, compared to larger shops. Still, I guess it's like shopping at Winners - where you might stumble upon a really great find among many other typical options. ~ Service was more about factual information, than solely an opinion about whether a frame 'looks nice'. Doctors Jerry Nolfi and Upen Kawale share this newly renovated office in the basement of the Manulife Centre. The space is clean, well designed, and inviting. The front desk staff are friendly and appointments are always on time. The office appears to be outfitted with all the latest equipment and things are well maintained. My eye exams are done by Dr. Nolfi and I've always had a good experience. If you're looking for the kind of doc that chats for 20 minutes after your exam, Dr. Nolfi's probably not the right guy for you. If, like me, you want someone who's friendly and thorough, but efficient. I paid $103 for my last eye exam, though I have no idea how this compares to other places. They also sell contacts and eye glasses on site. Fortunately, the eye glass store appears to be mostly independent and there's no pressure whatsoever to buy from them. Overall, a highly recommended place for an eye exam. read more

I went to Toronto Eye Care as it was in the neighborhood and seemed to have good reviews. I was not pleased with my previous eye clinic in downtown Toronto as I could not read for any length of time with my new progressive lenses. I took them back and it took weeks for them to return and they were no better. I saw Dr. Kristel Toomsalu at Toronto Eye Care. She told me that sometimes people have that problem with progressive lenses but she would see if she could have them measured slightly higher and give me a slightly stronger reading lens. I was measured for them and phoned when to bring my glasses in to replace the old lenses. I took my glasses in Thursday morning and was shocked to get a phone call Thursday evening! Wow! So much better than my previous clinic and I have never had to go back to reading glasses as they work perfectly!!! read more

Would not recommend. Went there for an eye exam and had the lenses in my glasses updated since I knew there was a prescription change. The clinic is very busy and the staff is not friendly. Most part of the exam is not done by the doctor but by the assistant who checks and prints your prescription off the computer. Dr. Nolfi was pleasant, although you can se he was in a rush to get you out of his office and for the next patient to come in. So I would say the exam was not very thoroughly done. But the worst was when I had my my lenses changed. They costed me around 400 dollars and wasn't even the right prescription. I had them to be adjusted twice and the technicians kept telling me I wasn't seeing clearly because my frames aren't right. However, I've had no previous issues with my frames and I am, in fact, still wearing them now. After a month or two with my new lenses I was still not seeing clearly. I did not bother going back since I knew there was nothing they could or would do at the clinic. When I flew home for christmas I had another eye exam with the optometrist I used to go to. I also had them to check my new lenses and was told that the prescription was completely off by around 0.5 (when it should be 5.25, Toronto eye care made them 5.75) Needless to say I got new lenses since 0.5 is a huge difference and it's not good for your eyes to be wearing a pair of glasses with the prescription off. This was my first time at this clinic and it will definitely be the last. I was very disappointment with their customer service. The front desk, the people on the phone and one technician were all rude and not helpful at all when I inquired about the details of my charges for insurance purposes. The eye exam itself and the other tests were done in a very rushed way and I did not feel a thorough job was done. Their prices are well above industry averages and there is no transparency given. Not only is my every question (and I have lots of them!) answered patiently and professionally, but the glasses and contact lens staff have gone above and beyond the call of duty several times. From rush adjustment to new glasses before I left on a long vacation, to pulling out all the stops when I needed new contact lenses and had left my re-ordering to the last minute, I've always appreciated their care and attention. read more

I'm a patient of Dr. Upen Kawale. He is an excellent doctor, he is highly skilled, very patient and always fully explains the details of the exam. When I first saw him about ten years ago, I had been to three different eye doctors and each had told me I didn't need glasses or a prescription. However I was having crippling migraines and couldn't determine the cause. Dr. Kawale gave me a through eye exam, declared all the other optometrists wrong and prescribed a correction of +2.50 in one eye! Almost immediately my migraines went away. He is the only optometrist that I will go to! Further, the opticians here are excellent. They will assist you in selecting the frames that suit your face. Also they use the absolute best lenses in their glasses. You will find that the lenses here are a bit more pricey but they are certainly worth it. The anti scratch and anti reflection coatings actually work. They also have a big selection of contact lenses and an expert, Shelley, to teach how to wear them and help you find the right brand for you. She is really friendly and helpful. I had eye examination here. The Dr prescribed contact lenses without examining them on my eyes. She did not examine the contact lenses I already had either, or mention anything about my eyes dryness or recommend any drops. All previous optometrists that I had visited, carefully examined my older contacts and the ones they were suggesting. read more
