Grace Family Eye Care is one of the few original tenants of Pacific Mall when it first opened in…read more1997 that is still in business. Pacific Mall is filled with stores selling prescription eyewear and sunglasses but what sets Grace Family Eye Care apart from the other stores is Alvin, Edward and Nigel are all licensed opticians and are very knowledgeable about the correct designs, fits and dispensing of lens for the correction of a person's vision and they are very fair and professional. You will notice that many of their other competitors in the malls, have a huge selection of sunglasses and pretty girls as sales persons but they aren't as knowledgeable about what's the best fit for your eyes and they most likely aren't licensed opticians. If your at Pacific Mall and looking for a good optical store that has staff that is very knowledgeable about the business and are very fair and professional, I recommend Grace Family Eye Care, I have been getting my eyewear needs from them for over 10 years. Like any store in Pacific Mall, they are open to price negotiations. They are also fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Since she moved to Midland location and having her own office, the experience is 100% better. She is always patience and thorough with my routine eye examinations. All my questions and concerns always be addressed. Recently even refer me to see a specialist right in the same North Scarborough area, which is super convenience for me.

I saw her for a prescription for distance as well as a separate prescription for reading/ working on my computer. She was very patient and super thorough, so much so that she even measured the distance of my outstretched arm so she could find the optimum range for my reading/ PC glasses. At no point did I feel rushed by her and she was more than happy to answer my questions. I was so happy with her that I messaged an eye glasses wearing friend about her! The office was very clean and her receptionist was also wonderfully welcoming and polite! I also liked the fact that she is an optometrist without a glasses shop. I hate going to those, the glasses are always UGLY and you only ever get 15 minutes with the eye doctor. GO SEE this lady, you won't regret!

We paid $2500 ($400 for the Ortho K sphere lenses and $2100 for Ortho K service) upon signing the contract and started the Ortho K program. We were told at that time that for future years we only needed to pay the cost of lenses when new lenses are required due to prescription changes or damages). Now one year has passed, and we visited again this morning. We were told we need to renew the service to continue the myopia control program. She said it's not just for the cost of the lens, additional yearly fees goes without saying. When I took out the paper contract signed from last year and tried to point out what the contract says, she felt very upset and told us the original contract is voided if we don't pay to renew the service. Wow, a formal written signed contract can be voided arbitrarily by her just like snapping a finger!!!!! And she even charged today's visit to OHIP instead of covering under the service contract which states at least 1 visit per three month till my daughter is 19. So basically we paid $2100 for our first years' 6~7 times visits!!!!! We didn't want to waste any time arguing further with this place with NO honesty, NO professionalism and NO business ethics whatsoever. Just want to share our expensive lesson and hope it can help whoever reads this review make a wise decision.

Unionville

My regular optometrist that I have been seeing for years is located at Markville Shopping Centre…read more Due to ongoing issues between Ontario Health and optometrists, eye exams aren't available. Bummer. I tend to see my optometrist in December every two years. What now? I did a search and found Unionville Optometry. It's a bit closer to me. I sent an e-mail asking whether there were any appointments available for this week. Twenty minutes later, I got a response and there was an appointment after work on Thursday. It was perfect. You need to do a pre-screening questionnaire before you show up at the place. The questions range from what your existing medical conditions are, to whether you have ever had COVID-19. You are then given a list of points about what will happen when you arrive at the clinic. A lot of them didn't happen, such as getting my temperature checked. The short, accurate version is the following: - Arrive at the clinic, and either call or text the clinic that you have arrived. I did the former. The woman on the other end indicated to approach the door in five minutes and someone will let me in. - When you are let in, you are asked to wash your hands at the sink by the entrance. Soap and paper towel are available. You do not need to sanitize your hands. I had a nice technician who let me in. She looked at my car and commented on how nice the blue colour was. It was nice to hear. She then led me to a bunch of different machines to test various aspects of my vision and eyes, from pressing a button whenever you see a light flash somewhere, to getting a puff of air to test each eye's pressure. I also had photos of my eyes taken. After all tests were done, she asked me to take a seat in a designated waiting area and Dr. Mark would come see me. This clinic is a family-run business. The family name is Innamorato. My guess is that spelling and perhaps pronunciation can be pain points, so everyone calls the doctors by Dr, followed by their first names. I like simplicity. Dr. Mark was friendly and thorough. We analyzed my sight with my existing glasses versus what looked better to me. He was understanding and I appreciated his explanations that weren't completely medical speak in nature. He also has a sense of humour. He asked who my usual optometrist was. I said her first and last names. He started singing Ricky Martin's "Living La Vida Loca," which cracked us both up. I didn't realize that her first and last names do sound like La Vida Loca... haha! I paid at the front desk. When you do the pre-assessment, you are asked to enter a credit card, but no charges would be made to it. My guess is that if you don't show up, a $75 charge for not cancelling within 48 hours occurs on your card. The eye exam here is more than what I typically pay at my regular optometrist's office. The eye exam is more detailed and comprehensive. I am okay with it, considering my track record for a weird eye issue that I had a few years ago. You then add on how much it is without OHIP and it looks expensive. Luckily, I have health insurance with my employer, so I'm covered for a good chunk of this cost. I paid with my debit card. The transaction was smooth. I got my receipts and prescriptions from the woman. They were clearly printed out. I asked whether I had the code for this service provider on the receipt, so I could file my insurance claim. She wrote it down for me. Remember to ask for it, which will make your claim easy to file. I filed my claim online after I had dinner. It went well. I got reimbursed today. Direct deposit is awesome! I had an excellent experience and felt comfortable. If my regular optometrist is still closed when I need my next eye exam, I'd return to Unionville Optometry without any hesitation. This clinic is located on the south side of Highway 7, next to Midas. There is plenty of parking and the signage is so brightly lit that you truly can't miss it on a dark evening. (462)

I am a senior and have had a lot of experience with prescription lenses over my lifetime. The lenses I have purchased in the past from other similar establishments have lasted for years and I have never had any issues with scratches or otherwise. The lenses I bought from Unionville Optometry lasted 7 months, despite the fact that I took good care of them because they were expensive. I was told by Unionville Optometry that the scratches were my fault Given the care I took with my glasses, I do not accept this. The manufacturer's warranty is limited to 3 months. The optician refused to assist in any way. I do not ordinarily purchase my lenses from Unionville Optometry. I only did so this one time because my optometrist, who works there, suggested that I get my lenses there. I would not recommend purchasing prescription lenses at this establishment.
