This is from my experience on the phone with them.. They dropped and transferred my calls many times. The customer service staff also has a limited grasp of English. Finally, when we were on the same page they quoted $104 for the eye exam, would not give me the PD to order online, and kept telling me that I need to come in and try some glasses. I would not recommend this place as they are not looking out for the best interest of those that wear glasses and don't' want to spend $400+ on them. read more

Terrible front end staff, which ruins it for the Doctors they work for. The Doctors are amazing and wonderful. The front end staff cannot handle too many clients or phone calls and cannot prioritize between the two. They have no issues leaving you on hold for 30 mins in the 'queue' They also cannot give you a straight answer and they're go to answer is 'I don't know' I do not recommend strictly based on the front end staff. read more

I scheduled an eye exam over the phone, and the receptionist was extremely quick and courteous when booking my appointment. Approximately 5 days prior to my scheduled appointment time (noon), I received a reminder email noting my appointment time and their office address (useful as they have just moved to 244 Finch W). I was promptly taken into the exam area at 12:01, where they assessed the prescription of my current glasses and performed a rough estimate on my vision. No glaucoma puffs, thank the maker. A few short minutes later, I was introduced to Dr. Beth Schellenberg, the young, professional, and courteous optometrist that performed my exam. It was immediately evident that she was knowledgeable and confident in her field, demonstrated by her running narration of what she would be doing, why it was important, and her findings when each phase of the exam was concluded. I would have no qualms about recommending her to anyone looking for an eye exam. A few things for people interested in an appointment: 1) The "optomap" service they offer is optional for $45. I got the impression this was just a traditional retinal exam that gives the optometrist a more complete view of the cornea in one image. I declined this service, however, because I am a young, healthy individual, and I'm already going to receive a thorough retinal examination from the optometrist. Further, optomap's own website describes the procedure as something that was invented in response to a frustrating edge case that most people would be unlikely to encounter. Perhaps if your family has a history of glaucoma, retinal detachment, diabetes or ocular cancer, this might be something you want to pursue. 2) If you require a measurement of your pupillary distance (PD), be sure to request. Such a measurement is not typically part of an eye exam, but can be provided at no charge. 3) Frames at their location were prohibitively expensive. Most options were in the $200 or $300 range, while shopping around online will save you significant money on any of the name brands. 4) A full print-out of your prescription will be provided at the time of payment. My eye exam was $104 and change CAD. 5) Get ready for pupil dilation. The dose was low, however, and my vision returned to normal within about 30 minutes of leaving the office. Total time in the office was about one hour and forty minutes. read more

Finch Avenue Optometry, my worst experience ever! I went to this place because of the good reviews but it was a big mistake! I wanted to do my eye exam because I felt my vision was not as good as before. I had an appointment with Dr. Stevense. She was friendly, trying to convince me that I need stronger glasses than necessary and progressive ones, even though I had no problems looking at computer and distance. Every letters she showed me to check my vision I could guess correctly... She was showing me 2 sings ... saying 1 or 2 ... I told her I can see both of them but one of them is a little bit blurry ... The only problem I had was I couldn't see properly very small letters like the ones on medication boxes. Long story short... I went to the technicians to make the glasses and they told me that I have to have them done with PROGRESSIVE lenses, one part for using the computer and the second one for reading ($400). I bet you, they recommend progressive glasses to everyone. I refused and I told them that I only need them for reading ($200). They looked very disappointed but after that they made them. When I received them they were very strong. They claimed that the doctor's indication for none progressive lenses must be +1.5. I told them that these are my first pair of eyeglasses and I don't think that I should start with +1,5 and also, even on the prescription was +1. She didn't want to accept that she made a mistake so I went to the front desk and told them the story. The receptionist asked her to remake the glasses with +1 as it was on the prescription. The new ones are +1 and still very strong for me ... My eyes get very tired when I use them ... Now I can't read without them even normal writing and I got dependent to them ... Dr. Stevense and her technician made mistakes and now I have to suffer because of their ignorance and greediness ... All of these was for money???? playing with people's health and put their vision in danger. My boyfriend as well had an even worse experience with them (progressive glasses $800 with his own frame) He will tell you himself how badly he was scammed by them. I have to check my vision again and change my glasses and pay from my pocket because my insurance just paid $350 to Finch Ave. Optometry and It won't cover another one in less than 2 years. Please make yourself a favor and avoid this place and don't trust the good reviews because not all of them are real. read more

I've been with Dr. Papadakis at Finch Avenue Optometry for well over 8 years now. Every aspect of the service is always wonderful. The receptionists are courteous and try to schedule me for the most convenient times, going so far as to call me back if they find something that may suit me better. Dr. Papadakis is very careful and attentive, making sure to explain everything to me and to answer all my concerns. Since I have some problems with my eyes, a good optometrist is vital for me - I feel very confident using the services here! (Their selection of glasses is pretty good, too. I've bought a number of them here. Someone's always on hand to suggest something that will suit my face and help me find something cute.) read more

I attended one of his talks a couple of years ago and was very impressed by his passion for what he does and how he could discover diseases by looking behind the eye with his special equipment. I booked an appointment with Dr, Papadakis and waited for almost an hour, only to be told that I would be next after the family of 5 that was in front of me; when I asked for them to equate that to a timeline she said about 20 more minutes. Yeah right, a family of five would only take 20 minutes? This practice does not respect their patients or their time. The family of 5 in front of me was also waiting for over an hour, and the mom mentioned to me that this type of wait is very typical of this practice. Shame on them for over booking and making people wait. If you respect yourself, and your time - don't bother going here. I walked out. read more
