First of all, the location of the clinic is very convenient and easily accessible from Yonge Street and the subway (North York Centre station). The clinic is very clean and the staff is friendly, welcoming and helpful. As far as I am concerned, Dr Heshmati always performed a thorough and extensive eye exam, which one might not get in some other eye clinics. I would most definitely recommend this clinic. My experience with the service providers and staff of this facility was awesome. I had an prior appointment and everything went very smooth. The doctor described all the processes she was following for my eye exam in very detailed way and she suggested the kind of glasses that can help me when I am working on my computer. I also bought glasses from this facility and they provided me 25% discount as courtesy. After my eye exam, I also brought my 3 year old daughter for her eye exam. And, again the doctor did a very thorough eye exam of my daughter and was able to handle her very effectively. All in all I am very very satisfied. read more

Nice office and location, It is right above the North York Centre Station on the TTC. Some of the staff were friendly when I was there. That was the only thing good about this Clinic. I went here last year because it was close to my old office. They are very overpriced compared to other eye exam places in Toronto. They also snuck in a charge for a 3D eye imaging service which they didn't tell me I was going to be charged for until after the fact. They wouldn't take off the charge since the service had already been rendered. They tried to reassure me that my benefits should cover most of it, but really it was a totally unnecessary service that no one needs unless they have major eye issues. They also were trying to upsell me on buying frames and lenses from them when I was paying, to which I declined, I only needed a basic eye exam. Recently I moved out of the country, and had to call in to get my prescription sent to me. The lady who answered the phone didn't speak English very well. When asking me questions to confirm my identity, phone number and address she continuously messed up the spellings when repeating back my information and didn't understand when I said that they had my old phone number and address on file which needed to be updated. She told me that sending my prescription was going to be free to send for the first time, but would charge $20 dollars if I needed another one sent in future. I asked if she could email it to me which she said they don't have the ability to do so. She said she would fax it right then, but nothing came to my fax machine within 20 minutes. So I called back and she asked if she could mail it to me instead. I said that I needed it quicker than that and she abruptly responded that she would "call me back" and dropped off the line. I stayed on the line for a second and asked "Hello, is anyone there?". Another person on the line answered who I believe was Dr. Heshmati said "You will have to be patient, she is busy right now. She will fax the documents when she is done helping out two patients. We are short staffed today..." and then continued on to confirm my fax information. An hour and a half later I still haven't received my fax or a callback. So I called back again, the lady said she would send it now, they have been busy so she couldn't before. I waited and nothing came through and then the shop closed for the night. Called back a few times in the days that followed and left them a message in their voicemail when no one answered my call, asking for them to call me back to let me know what was happening and if they could try resending. No one ever returned my call. I sent them an email a few weeks ago asking on the status, and just asked them to mail it since the fax obviously wasn't getting me anywhere. I finally received it at my Canadian address a couple days ago after waiting for a few weeks. I was at the point where I was just going to pay for a new eye exam because it was extremely hard to deal with this office. Will never come back here and advise every else stay far away. Don't let the shiny office fool you, this place is painfully mismanaged and wasted more time out of my life than I care to mention. read more

I am a returning customer of the Empress Eye Clinic and can say only good things about this clinic and its owner. Both times Dr Heshmati conducted a comprehensive eye exam using state of the art equipment to check the internal condition of my eyes, and to come up with a precise eye prescription. After getting my first pair of glasses from the Empress Eye Clinic three years ago, I started experiencing much less strain working long hours with a monitor. That time I got a pair of Gunnar glasses, specially designed for working with computers and those glasses made wonders. I didn't see these glasses anywhere else in Toronto. Three years later I was glad to return to the clinic to perform the routine check up, compare my vision with what it was the last time and get a new great frame with the new state of the art lenses. This office is what I refer to as a 'wolf in sheep's clothing'. Overall, I was not impressed with my experience with this Eye Clinic and would suggest everyone considering visiting to rethink their options. Dr. Javad Heshmati hurried me through my eye appointment (which was overpriced) and when other issues arose, I got no response when making initial contact to correct the issue/miscommunication. I had to do a spontaneous visit the office for a follow up (due to the lack on response given to my complaint). A sign of a poorly ran office. I moved into this area 5 years ago and I have been seeing Dr. Heshmati ever since. I first visited this clinic with a pretty serious eye problem due to poor fitting contact lenses, from a previous clinic. Dr. Heshmati was quick to diagnose the issue and made a few adjustments to my prescription over the next couple of months to correct the problem. He didn't even charge me the second time to adjust the prescription. One thing that I really appreciate about this clinic is how impeccably clean it is. The doctor and staff are constantly disinfecting the machines that are used, this should be a given in any eye clinic, but that has not always been my experience at other places. I have also dealt personally on a number of occasions with Dr. Heshmati's assistant, Mashad. When I call the clinic and she sees my number she greets me personally by name. She is always polite and professional. She remembers many personal details through our conversations and always makes an effort to ask me how I'm doing or how work is going. I can't tell you the number of times my husband or I call at the last minute to book an appointment and she does her best to fit us in. Today she even fixed my husband's glasses, free of charge, even though this particular pair was not purchased at this clinic. It is obvious that our business is appreciated. I have had many positive experiences at this clinic and I have learned a lot about the importance of eye care through Dr. Heshmati's thorough explanations. I would not hesitate to recommend this clinic to anyone. read more

The optometrist was through but wouldn't address my issues with dry eye and made me wait one month for an appointment to check that issue. The price I was given for the eye tests was WAY off. I had coverage for $75 and chose the $295 test because I hadn't had an eye exam in a few years and felt I needed one. My bill came to almost 1000 dollars after a 20% discount. The bill amount DID NOT match the amount I was given on the phone and the woman at the counter told me they gave me a bunch of tests for free and they put in for a reimbursement from my insurance company. Very strange!!! The woman dealing with my prescription kept me for over 2 hours which is INSANE. I finally told her to put my new prescription in my old lenses and she told me if they come back damaged they take ZERO responsibility. The glasses came back crooked. I am so done with this place! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! THEY ARE RIPOFF ARTISTS!!! AND DURING COVID TOO!! read more

I have been going to this practice for a very long time. They have always had a welcoming environment. The doctor educates patients very well and gives good advice. The staff are very kind, and are always either helping me or another patient and do their job very well. The location is right on a subway station so it is easy to get to. The office has many different brands of eyeglasses and whenever I go there they always have something new! The doctor seems to truly care about all his patients health. He explains the importance to protect your eyes from both the sun and screens. This office is amazing and I would never stray from it. The space is very big and clean. Very good location right above North york station on Empress walk. One of the best eye clinics in the world. Profissional staff and a great knowledgable doctor. A bit expensive however worth evry dollar. They have a 3d eye exam that shows the doctor if you have a problem or even a potential problem which may lead to serious problems in the future. Terrible Doctor. If you are not planning to or have purchased eye glasses elsewhere, he will not care much about you. For the price of an eye exam, its greatly over priced, and that's only for the "basic" package. There are many eye doctors in Toronto and even in the North York area as well. For the same price if not less you can get a way better comprehensive eye exam package and a doctor that actually cares. Definitely would not recommend. read more

My appointment was with Dr. Heshmati at 5:30pm. I arrived for my appointment at 5:20pm. Dr. Heshmati was running late so by the time I saw him, it was 5:50pm. While I was waiting for Dr. Heshmati, two tests were run on my eyes by the receptionist. I have never had eye tests done by a receptionist. Maybe Dr. Heshmati's receptionist is a medical student working part-time there or maybe she's just a receptionist but either way, she couldn't answer what they were for or why they were being done. When Dr. Heshmati finally saw me, I told him I would like a prescription for both glasses and contact lenses. He informed me contact lense prescriptions were an additional $50 which was news to me as I had specifically said I wanted both glasses and contact lenses prescriptions when I made the appointment. During the eye exam he asked me where I bought my contact lenses and upon hearing I ordered them online, his tone turned very condescending and he implied I was being cheap. Now, I do understand that in his opinion (and I'm sure every optometrist shares this opinion), it is best to have an optometrist fit you for your contact lenses, but insurance money only goes so far. Dr. Heshmati could have conveyed this message much more politely without being condescending. Dr. Heshmati was rushed and hurried through my eye exam. I had questions for him around some concerns I had but he ushered me out to the store front and said "hurry, follow me, we close at 6pm, we have to hurry". I reminded him I had arrived early for my appointment and that it was he who was running late and could he please answer my questions. He continued to usher me to the store front where the printer was located - waved his hand in the general direction of the printer and told me my prescription was there. He then proceeded to talk to another customer who was looking at frames. I still had questions for him so I picked up my prescription and asked him if my eye exam was over - was he not going to dilate my eyes? He told me that exam was an additional $30. He then snatched my prescription from my hands, signed it and walked away. I met up with him at the reception desk and told him I was not satisfied with the service he had provided and that he had been rude and condescending, that I had been specifically said I wanted prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses when I had made the appointment and had been quoted a price of $120 + tax for a comprehensive eye exam and he hadn't even dilated my eyes. Dr. Heshmati then proceeded to blame the poor receptionist for the "misunderstanding" and told me all optometrists charge additional for contact lense prescriptions and dilation of eyes and that they had the best machines and we had to hurry up because it was already after 6pm! I had had enough at this point so I told Dr. Heshmati this was the most unprofessional and worst appointment I had ever had and paid and left before I got even angrier. The appointment with Dr. Heshmati was so rushed that I didn't have any confidence in the prescription he provided and felt compelled to make an appointment with a new optometrist at another practice - my new optometrist was very thorough, her assistant who conducted the pre-exam tests were very knowledgeable about what they were doing and the equipment they used. The appointment lasted 1 hour 15 minutes and my eyes were dilated at no additional cost. The final cost for my appointment was only $10 more than what Dr. Heshmati charged me (not including contact lense exam/prescriptions which were an additional $30). I read a few reviews ,true Susan does part of the eye exam Dt.Heshmati does rush through the exam . I was quoted $115.00 for the eye exam,yet the clinic billed my Insurance Company $185.00 knowing my allowable is $137.50 thus the clinic gets paid the max ,why bill for $185.00 when I was quoted $115.00 ,then I have another company paying the difference $251.50 , my insurance company allowable in total is $450.00 ,my total at the end was $673.00, what both companies paid = $701.50 which means the clinic basically stole $27.50 ,my insurance company only paid $450.00 in the end I still end up owing $87.00 sound confusing !!! Not impressed with their service. I'm a past client of Empress Eye Clinic (and not returning). Last year I went through a (very over-priced) eye exam here and bought a year long supply of contacts. I called in today (one month past my normal check up date) trying to buy one pair of contacts to get me through the next 2 weeks as I can't come in for a full check-up until end of March and got yelled at by the optometrist (not Dr. Heshmati) who very rudely told me that they won't sell me any contacts based on my old prescription unless I come in and take a new exam. I explained to her (during the rare moments she was letting me speak) that my prescriptions hasn't changed for years, I don't feel any changes in my vision and that I take full responsibility for wearing the old prescription-based contact for one more month, but she wouldn't listen to me. Even if she were concerned for my health, there are other ways to communicate this message. All they want is for you to come in and spend a lot of money on the super expensive eye exam. By the way, last year the optometry assistant did the test on me without asking me first if I was wearing contact lenses - turned out that the patient should not be wearing lenses or glasses, so they had to re-do the test. And that's the kind of testing that they want you to pay so much money for.... read more
