There is no better selection of high fashion frames (especially the #JacquesMarieMage exclusivity, you want to talk about fashion?, come on MarieMage!) Without wading in the minutia, some things happened, a situation appeared, my orders were delayed, and all I have to say is this team figured it out, made it right, went above and beyond, while being gracious throughout. My old Ditas were picked up from my home after-hours, Vicki was so attentive and thoughtful. This is real-time, Manhattan customer service, LJ spent 3 hours letting me try what I wanted and then nudging me towards what I needed. Thank you Thank you. I've been waiting to purchase glasses for some time. I chose Spectacle for their gorgeous selection of classic and dynamic frames. Spectacle is one of the top optical places in the city for cool frames. Erin helped to style my look and explain the different lenses and associated prices. As you know, prescription glasses aren't cheap and the economy is terrible so I really relied on Erin's ability to find me the best lenses for a reasonable price. I'm so happy with my glasses!! Unbelievably lame service. They screwed up on a quote - which they admit - and I bought a new pair of glasses based on that quote. Then when it came time to pay they wouldn't honour the quote. They've done some retraining since, to address the fact that the person who game me the quote "wasn't qualified to give me the quote" - even though it was more than one person who worked on it, and both of them had been working there for a while. In my business, if I screw up, I make it right. Clearly that's not how they run their business. I've been a repeat customer at this store for years but will never return. Frames are great. Lenses not so much. And service absolutely terrible. And get your prescriptions elsewhere because I wouldn't trust their opticians (if you want a good reco on an optician, Dr Heeney of Spadina Optometry on Spadina gets my vote). read more

BOTTOM LINE: Their flagship store is especially impressive and it's no suprise that their stores are consistently awarded as the best luxury eyewear retailers in the city. Spectacle has, quite possibly, some of the best selection of luxury (sun) glasses in the city, but be prepared to drop some serious coin if you want a pair! Other boutique stores have been popping up along this Queen West strip, but Spectacle remains my favourite. Depending on the brand, you may be able to find it for cheaper at other luxury eyewear stores such as Minh Chau in China Town. I've purchased from this Spectacle before and have never felt the staff to be pushy. Compared their Distillery District site, this place simply has more selection, is better staffed, is opened for longer hours and is more easily accessible. As a general statement to all the Spectacle shops, they offer a great service to add permanent nose pads to your plastic-framed glasses for ~$30 that are more aesthetically pleasing (arguably) and certainly more durable than the silicon stickies some places will give you. They'll replace future nose pads for free. A must if you have the "Asian bridge" or just don't like how plastic frames will inevitably slide down when there's even a bit of oil or sweat. They provide this service on-site, so it can be done the same day! I've had two pairs of Oliver Peoples modded here over the past year and they've worked spectacularly (wah wah wah!). I regularly frequent this store to get my glasses adjusted and have always been greeted by friendly staff who will offer you free bottles of water, eye clothes (which an amazing print of checkered faces) and even adjustment kits! Great selection of frames. The technical team is superb. Serious problems with hiring/coaching of sales staff. The result is spotty experience in which one interaction can sour the relationship. This week i returned with a pair of Lindberg glasses i had broken. Was looking for help figuring out whether to replace the frame or buy a whole new pair of glasses. Sales person obsessed with warranty and whether or not I had broken them. Of course I had. He was unhelpful and irritating - although he was stylish and hip. So hip he couldn't be bothered to listen to me and realize I was ready to buy a whole new pair. I'm done with spectacle. Time and money better spent elsewhere. read more

This review is based solely on their selection, layout of store, and not customer service as I was just browsing. Uber-pricey eyeglasse frames/sunglasses store, but they have the brands to back it up including Cazal, Thierry Lasry, Alain Mikli, Oliver Peoples, etc. Not a ton of selection, but enough, and you probably won't find these brands elsewhere in the city. What I was most impressed with was that customers were "allowed" to freely try on frames without having any sales staff breath down their necks. Atrocious and shameful. Mum and I have been coming here for a few years now, mainly because of their Thierry Lasry selection and customer service. However this time we did not appeciate the aggressive sales pitch about their new French lenses. Even after she specified that she's been happily wearing nikon lenses, the sales staff insisted on selling her the other lenses. Surprise surprise, those new lenses we're way more expensive than her nikon lenses. We left and wont be back! read more

My girlfriend and I went in to buy a pair of frames and lenses. I was buying them for her as a present. We found a gorgeous pair of Allied Metal Works frames. At $500+ for the frames alone I was stretching the top-end of my budget, but we decided to go for it anyways (they looked incredible). The sales folks were very pleasant and I felt good about getting them for her. Then we were directed to the "lab guy". That's where the good experience ended. He pushed hard for us to go for the top-of-the-line pair of lenses, which with the frames came out to $955. When I asked for a comparison price between the super lenses and the standard lenses (that I have in my own glasses, purchased from Spectacle years ago that I've been quite happy with), he made a comment that "these are for her, though". A bizarre and somewhat aggressive response to a legitimate question. He eventually provided the comparison quote between the different lenses, but that comment put me off so much that we aborted and left. Too bad, the lenses looked great! read more

You won't find better service in any eye wear shop in the city. I've even found service at high end optical shops in NY that aren't as good as at Spectacle. The staff are trained so well to find what you want and what will suit you. Darren + Emma are the best. They carry only the highest quality lines made from the best acetates that will withstand a lifetime of proximity to lotions, potions, make-up & poor air quality. They've also got a few different types of mirrors to use so you're completely clear on how things fit you. read more

Yes, you definitely pay more at Spectacle than you do at Lenscrafters. But in this case you get what you pay for, and in this case that means handcrafted glasses and the best customer service I have ever had. This legendary customer service includes all of the lens cleaner and cleaning cloths you can imagine, friendly but not fake staff, and people helping people to look good. When I went in to pick out my new frames, the staff picked out a handful of frames after just seeing my face and what I was wearing. Normally some are hit and miss, some amazing and some horrendous. WIth them, every single one was a hit. By far the best experience I have had buying glasses, and believe me... I have had many pairs. read more

The service here was top notch. The selection was pretty good. The glasses which were a custom tint took twice as long to get made than what they told us, but that's okay. There was an issue with an insurance claim and when I called Spectacle, they bent over backwards to try to help me make it right so we could get some money back. Huge selection, lots of unique frames. The team was extremely helpful with adjustments - they made four separate adjustments for me until my glasses fit absolutely perfectly. So my glasses kicked the bucket after 4 good years of service, setting into motion the search for the new hotness. After EXTENSIVE research, pounding the pavement checking out the usual spots, this time thanks to yelp and blogto I not only found Spectacle - but my new glasses! Fast forward: It's been a a whole month since I first picked up my glasses, and I love them! They fit great and my eyes have adjusted to the new size of the frames which I was initally concerned about during first try on. But they suggested that I finish wearing my old pair for the rest of the evening, and start wearing my new pair the next morning - and if I had any problems to give them a call or come in. They provide top notch service and aren't at all pushy. I really appreciated their first impression assembled tray of suggestions while I figured out what to hone in on - which was once again not pushy but helpful on theor part. Yes glasses can become pricey but once you shop around and you zero in on what you want...budget for it and walk out happy!! Why settle? Knock on wood I won't have to break my glasses again but I am definitely glad I went to Spectacle. I've since named my specs my "Clark Kents" haha, mission accomplished. Spectacle is one of those places where you get what you pay for. They are pricey but the quality is of the frames and lenses are worth it! The Queen street location is fabulous and the customer service is incredible. I have to be honest though, I didn't enjoy the Brickworks location. The staff were not friendly at all and they seemed like they didn't give a sh*t. It's unfortunate but I'll just stick to the Queen street location because their staff are fantastic. read more

I stopped into Spectacle today to have my husband's eye wear repaired, and even though they were not purchased at Spectacle, they fixed them for me anyway. Not only did they do this quickly, but also refused to let me pay for their services, even after I offered twice! I was super impressed with their customer service, and will definitely come back. Though I wasn't shopping for glasses today, I did get a chance to look around and they seem to have a great selection of stylish eye wear. My Oliver Peoples sunglasses had become really loose... I was driving past the SPECTACLES on Queen St. with under 20 minutes to closing. I explained my issue to one of their managers named Dan Ranger and he just took my glasses to the back. After a few minutes he came back and my glasses were back to normal. Probably the best customer service I've had for glasses. Came in to get a pair of glasses fitted to my face properly and was worried that they weren't the right pair for me. I didn't even purchase these from spectacle but they were kind enough to adjust them for me while also giving me handy information about the unique quality of every pair of handmade glasses. Absolutely the best customer service experience. I bought a pair of glasses from spectacle 6 years ago. Over the years I have been back a number of times (to buy clip-ons, for example) and each time, I have felt incredibly valued and respected as a customer. Any mishap (ex. clip-ons lost in the mall) was handled with utmost care and attention (i.e. clip-ons resent asap and an apology refund issued immediately). Their selection of glasses and sunglasses cannot be beat. Their customer service goes above and beyond (shout out to Dan Ranger at the Queen West location for handling my latest spectacle experience brilliantly!) I got an eye exam done here because there's an eye doctor on site, but it was not a full eye exam. There was no air blown into my eye to check pressure (or whatever it is), I did not look into a machine to test my reaction times etc. In a mere fifteen minutes (10 of which were chatting), I got my new prescription, which is what I wanted. However, I just feel like if you want a full eye exam as you would normally expect with an optician, don't go here. Also, I called to ask about putting in nosepads permanently and they said it would cost $80 (which is SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive than other places). Likely will not return. read more

Last week my frames broke and I was without glasses. I went to Spectacle on Queen and I was lucky that Dan was there. (I was very upset because if I couldn't find a frame for my lenses I would have been out of pocket for another $1,200 prescription.). First off, I'll admit that I usually only leave Yelp reviews when I really hate a place. But my experience at Spectacle has been so positive that I had to rave about my experiences. I have bought 3 frames there in the last year. They have by far the best selection of hip, cutting-edge frames I've seen anywhere in Toronto and really have their finger on the pulse of eyewear trends. But by far the best thing about Spectacle is their customer service. Everybody that works there is knowledgeable, helpful and extremely patient. I've been an annoying customer, changing my lenses twice with one pair, and even taking a pair back I didn't end up liking. Spectacle staff worked with me, never made me feel bad for being picky, made as many changes as necessary to make me leave happy, and generally left me feeling like I'd been taken care of. I was especially well-served by Dan and Mark. I really can't recommend this shop highly enough. read more

After checking out the a few boring old glasses shops like Hakim and feeling anything but inspired by the choices, I decided to give Spectacle a try and I'm so glad I did. Julie, one of the staff, helped me pick the perfect pair of glasses. She looked at my face shape, nose, eyebrows and eye colour, asked a little about my job and with that information pulled the perfect pair of glasses on her first try. It didn't stop me from trying on just about every pair of glasses in the store but her first choice were the ones. Since then I've been back for there free glasses cleaning and she somehow remembered who I was and greeted me with a warm hello. I love Spectacle's selection. I highly recommend you visit, if for no other reason than to get Julie's help narrowing down the type of glasses most flattering on you. Amazing place...after being told by some other place that it would code $50 to replace my nose pads on my sunglasses, spectacle did it complimentary. Looking for terrific service? The folks at Spectacle know their stuff. I've bought lenses at a quick turnaround competitor and while they are okay as a spare pair, there's nothing like having a quality pair of glasses (lens and frame). If you're moving for progressive bifocals spend the additional money and go for a midrange Nikon or better lens. You won't believe the difference it will make. This place has very professional, knowledgeable staff. They were very helpful on the phone with my special order of a discontinued pair. They were awesome in store as well. I had some recent unpleasant experience with a horrible eyewear store in Toronto (Hakim Optical on St. Clair & Bathurst) so this place was SUCH a contrast. The staff who helped me (I didn't catch their names!) really knew their stuff, were so sweet and helped me with my existing frames that were originally purchased in NYC (they carry the same great brand, MOSCOT). I was greeted and helped by a lady named Vicky when I was shopping for my new glasses. This lady had no clue about what she was talking about and provided me with all wrong information. You expect someone to spend so much money on glasses when you cannot answer questions regarding your products? Everything started out well. The selection was good, the salesperson was knowledgeable and laid back. But as soon as I asked about the price and they thought they had a sale, it went downhill. Instead of getting a straight answer about what a ballpark figure would be for those frames with lenses, I got the hard sell. Why can't people just answer a frigging question? "Depending on the prescription and options, it could be anywhere from $700 up." Simple. But no. So began the long explanation of why I really ought to consider progressive lenses even though I don't need them, and digital lenses even though I don't need them, etc., etc. 20 minutes later I finally heard some numbers. I was annoyed by then, but since the numbers were within range of my insurance coverage, I stuck around. Just barely. When I went to pick up the finished glasses Reza, the optician, barely waited until I'd put them on before going back behind the counter as though we were all done. I had to ask in confusion, "Aren't you going to fit them to my face?" So he came back out, took a quick look, and said they seemed to fit fine. Every other pair of glasses I've had fitted involved sitting down, looking closely, measuring, and making small adjustments until they fit perfectly. I had noticed a funny glare, so brought that up. Then began the campaign of gaslighting. First I was treated to an irrelevant and scientifically dubious mini-lecture about optics. He seemed to think I was talking about light bouncing off the coating on the outside. Several times I tried to explain that I was talking about blurs of colour when I looked through the glasses while wearing them. When I cut off his repetition of the optics mini-lecture, he told me that his $1000 lenses also reflect light off the coating. Clearly it was an attempt to shut me up by mentioning how expensive his glasses are. You're a baller, Reza! But actually I don't care how expensive your lenses were. That doesn't make me willing to pay hundreds of dollars for unwearable glasses. Then it was suggested that I had chosen frames that are too wide for my face. Well, the salesperson who suggested those lenses didn't seem to think so. Finally they made a small adjustment that didn't make much difference, and gave me a phone number to call if the problem doesn't work itself out. I asked what would happen if it didn't (as in will I get a refund), but was given a non-answer by someone who seemed to be the manager. The message seemed to be: we have your money now, so get out. This is not customer service. It's petty manipulation. Next time I will go back to Opticianado, where I had a great experience with my last pair. read more

All is peachy with this place when they are trying to sell or are taking your money. I bought a pair of IC Berlin frames and progressive lens 3 years ago cost over $1,200. Not even one year into the purchase the frames broke. When I took them in the staff person said oh these frames are not great the tend to break metal on plastic. Luckily for me they were still under warranty and were replaced. However, they broke again in the exact same way just a little over two years. Guess what -- they offered me nothing but the option of buying the same frames! Again so tried to soak me for another 600 dollars. We wrote to IC Berlin and they did not even bother to reply to our email. I am currently wearing a pair of 30 dollar over the counter reading glasses this is what I am left with for 1,200 dollar investment under three years ago. Buyer beware! read more

Seriously excellent service and quality - I wouldn't go anywhere else. It is expensive, but you pay for quality. I've had very attentive service here by the two people who helped me (over 2 months) to make a decision, one of them was named Eric, with no pressure whatsoever to buy. They even took photos for me with the glasses on so I could look at home. Impulsively I decided to try 'transitions' with my new glasses where the lenses get darker when you go outside, but after wearing them in real life I didn't like how they looked. I decided to pay to replace the lenses, and to my amazement, they offered to replace the lenses no charge! So worth it to go here rather than cheaper stores, you will spend less money in the long run and be happier with your purchases. read more

They have a really great selection of high quality, vintage/progressive style frames. Like others have said, the staff are friendly and not pushy at all.
