tl;dr Lovely sales associates, but HIGHLY dishonest owner. (IMO) Here's my tale of woe: Went last Sat (2019-09-14) to the store and with the help of Catherine selected a pair of glasses, as well as the Essilor lenses, and put down a $100 deposit on a $610 total. While there I took several selfies with the glasses to show my wife. I also asked about their return policy, and told that it was on a case by case basis, arbitrated by the boss, John Chiu. That night I reviewed the selfies and decided these glasses were not for me. So the very next day (Sun the 15th) I called the store and spoke to Catherine. She said I needed to speak to her boss (who'd be in the next afternoon starting at 2pm), but it shouldn't be a problem as they hadn't ordered the lenses yet. I left a message for John to call me. The next day, no call from John. So on my way to the subway as I was heading home around 6pm, I called and spoke to John. He said it would be difficult because he'd already sent the order in. "How is this possible?" I asked, "I told Catherine on SUNDAY to cancel the order." "Oh yes, but I sent it in Saturday night." I'm convinced this was a bald-faced LIE. "You know, let me call the representative, and call you right back." He continued. Of course, he didn't call back. I called the next day, and left a message on the answering machine. No call back. Of course. On my way home from work I swung by the store. It was empty. This was my first time encountering John in person. He gave me a big smile and asked how he could help me. "Well, you could start by returning my calls." I replied. He claimed he'd been very busy with customers, although the store was empty at this time. At this point he gave me a song and dance about how he'd convinced Essilor to cancel the order, but they were going levy a $30 charge. So he only returned $70. So I echo the sentiments of other reviewers and advise you to AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! I ended up having a WONDERFUL experience at Warby Parker. read more

Alright I may be biased when it comes to Specs & Specs Optical because I worked there almost 5 years ago during the summer of 2004, but this is THE PLACE for glasses and sunglasses. When I first stepped into this store, I was blown over by the HUGE selection of frames and shades - both high-end designers and cool individual frame artists. Luckily it made easier for me to find frames and shades for customers in search of a new set of frames and to find items I loved to buy with my discount! Specs & Specs carries all of the top designer brands, such as Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Giorgio, Prada, etc. As well, the store has some funky brands such as OGI (I am currently wearing my OGI glasses as I write this). On top of that, the store has all of the latest in designer sunglasses. Luckily these shades range in price so it is friendly to all crowds. In addition, all staff are trained there to adjust glasses and help out customers who walked through the door. And the optician/owner, John, is a really friendly guy! Overall this place is great when you want as much options as possible when picking out such an important item as a pair of glasses. They make a difference in the world everyday by helping children whom are born with or get eye diseases, gain their vision back either with their specialized custom contacts. They have several locations, I went to the college st and August avenue location by Kensington. Here's my detailed review: This is an unprofessional sleazy dishonest optical store. They lie to their customers, don't trust this place. My boyfriend would have purchased a pair of their glasses however, as a consumer you would like to compare at different places before making a purchase. There are a few things as a consumer you should know, there are 3 different numbers on the glasses, serial number, style number which is on their white sticker and the original style number of the glasses itself. Specs PURPOSELY HIDES the style number so that you can't get the exact pair of glasses elsewhere. They are shady since they put their own store's style number sticker RIGHT ON the original style of the glasses, which is important if you want to look for glasses elsewhere that might carry them or for other optical places to order them for you, and in many cases other optical stores can order them for you and will probably be cheaper. I called them 3 times asking for them to tell me the ORIGINAL style number and they played DUMB on the phone saying that their style number is the legitimate number. And they said they "busy" with customers, after the call I went to the store and NO ONE WAS in the store, I highly doubt they were busy when I called. Anyways for anyone reading this I HIGHLY recommend going to College Optical located at college st and August avenue, by Kensington. College optical has been in business for 30 years, Perry and Sheldon are honest, genuine guys who will provide you with the best service and who are fully honest to customers. I have been buying from Specs and Specs for 10 + years. John the owner has always resolved issues where inexperienced staff has damaged frames wether purchased from him or not. He must not care about customer service anymore as this time All I received was excuses and lies. If you use them be sure to document the condition of your frames and get them to sign off so they cannot makeup excuses. I feel like I've wasted almost $400 on lenses only to have my equally expensive frames damaged. I'm considering legal action. This little nook at Queen & John has cool frames and great service. They greeted me, asked me if they could help me find anything, showed me how to open the cases, and let me browse their gorgeous selection of frames by international designers. I loved it, and wished I could have a harem of glasses. Eventually John Chiu, the manager and buyer, came over and took my shopping experience in hand. He suggested a few frames I wouldn't have tried on my own and gave me some great feedback. I couldn't choose, so I splurged on two sets. They were ready in a few days, and Mr. Chiu painstakingly adjusted each. I'm very happy with them, and would definitely go back. My first stop on the hunt for new frames. They have an optometrist on sight to do a quick, " Better one, better two, better three, better two?" exam. The selection includes frames to make you the spectacle- orange with green under tones anyone? And frame-less glasses as well. They staff generally will help you find a style that works on your face type. Selection of sunglasses in the back is also pretty broad, if you don't lose your sunglasses every few months like I do. So, I wouldn't consider buying sunglasses that cost more than $30, but if you would, check out the selection here. read more

I sat on a pair of Dita's last week and thought I might have made a very costly and unrepairable mistake. I stopped by Specs & Specs Monday and was welcomed by two very friendly staff. I went to Specs & Specs for a new glass. The girl with a red Prada glass was super helpful. She has a very good sense of fashion and chose several glasses for me after hearing what I wanted, all of which looked just right fit for me! I finally took one of what she chose. (I forgot her name...) John was very nice and friendly. He tested my vision carefully as I do not have a note from doctor. They helped me rush my glass as I need it so urgently. I bought a pair of Fysh frames from these folks less than a year ago and must have got a pair with a manufacturer defect as the metal nose piece broke off about 6 months after I bought them. Instead of taking them back to Specs and Specs for repair I actually took them to a glasses repair place, the guy welded the piece back on but it broke off again a few weeks later. I then contacted Specs ( which I should have just done to begin with ) and, after an initial miscommunication, they totally came through with a new pair of the same frames for me! I don't know know how they managed to get them, as they were discontinued, but they replaced them free of charge and Lindsay spent at least 20 minutes with me making sure the glasses fit, she adjusted the nose pieces and even added some silicone nose pads as well as bending the arms to curve around the backs of my ears. I was really pleased with the level of attention and service from both her and John and would be happy to return to them for my next pair! read more

I've had one of the best shopping experiences of glasses here. I went in looking for a pair, found one, ordered it, and came to pick it up. After wearing it for a couple of days though, I felt it didn't fit my face well and wasn't sure if I liked it at all. I went back to the store, explained to John and to my surprise, he offered to exchange a brand new pair and personally helped me went through the whole selection to pick out the ones that suits my face. He was able to explain and go over the shape and features of my face, and suggested a few pairs that go well with it. We finally arrived at a pair and they gladly had it done at no extra charge at all. I've gone back from time to time for detailed adjustments as well. With the trend of ordering glasses online nowadays, their prices is in comparison a bit pricy. I would suggest going there if you are covered under insurance. read more

They put stickers on ALL serial numbers of the glasses so that you can't research and get a pair that you like from another place. Put a pair on hold and than called 3 times later that day for the serial number. They pretended either they didn't know what that was or they were busy. They just acted dumb and annoyed the shit out of me. When you go to an electronic store or to a pharmacy or to any other store on this planet, you don't see stickers on serial numbers or labels. But at Specks & Specks, you do and you're not allowed to know what you're buying. Worst customer experience ever! read more

Remember that your vision/hearing are 1/2 most important senses, so you must get the glasses right 100% every time without exception. I asked for scratch resistant on my sunglasses, but within the first two months, I had a deep nasty scratch on one lens after carefully rinsing the lenses first, then using a clean tissue with lens solution. When I called I was told scratch resistant is not scratch proof and something about micron size of the dust particle. I was told to bring the sunnies in for a look, which I did not do. Another time I took my own frames which I adored to have lenses put in...when I went to pick them up the girl was adjusting them and put one plastic arm in some hot sand and gave it a bit of a bend and the arm snapped in half. They ended up putting new skinny arms that didn't match the frame as a "fix" and those glasses are in the garbage now. You can talk about friendly service and you can talk about great prices, but this is my vision and the glasses must be absolutely perfect with certification of lens coatings as promised, otherwise go away. Now I go to Lenscrafters which is a terrible service and ridiculous pricing, but they get it right at least. read more

Fantastic service. Nicole is a goddess and she can size up a frame with her eyes closed. She knows your eyes like the back of her hand and can read your future in your head shape. At Specs and Specs they make you feel and look like a million bucks and I met my future wife by wearing a specs and specs glasses frame. It's not Nicole, but she's also worth a solid wifehood. Good service, good selection, and excellent prices. I ordered a particular frame from Specs & Specs and they got it quite quickly. The fitting process was pleasant and prompt. Their price on this ProDesign frame was at least $50 or $60 less than a quote I received from a competitor. The nice optician who served me apparently miscalculated the cost of my high-index glass lenses, but the store very kindly absorbed the difference and didn't change their original quote. I love my new glasses, and I'd recommend Specs & Specs to anyone (and already have)! read more

My first Yelp review and I'm happy to write it for Specs & Specs Optical. I brought in a pair of designer frames that I purchased in Vegas. I shopped around for prescription lenses (-3.0) around the downtown core and they had the best price, friendly staff and it took less than 5 business days to fill my prescription in store (with the added benefit of not sending them out to another location). Upon receiving my new lenses, the friendly staff were also able to adjust two other old frames that didn't sit right on my face - free of charge - even though I didn't buy the frames there. I was quite disappointed with my glasses from this eye care store. I was told by the technician that the bridge measurement was not that relevant. Then, when I had trouble with the first lenses, I was given a hard time and then charged a lot more for getting transition lenses, that I had requested at time of purchase. I also overheard 2 technicians conversing and complaining about another patient. Not good. So, I had to pay 50% more and am left with glasses that are way too big. When I tilt my head downward, they almost fall off. I will not use Specs Eyewear again. read more

I bought a pair of glasses from John two years ago. I left them at the store until I got my prescription filled. I went back to retrieve the glasses and was told they had been sold. I was told that I would be contacted when they found the paperwork but that never happened. Who sells a client's paid-for glasses? No apology and no follow-up. I was told that it was my fault since I left the glasses there for so long. Stay away! read more
