I'm blown away by the corrective procedure I had done at the downtown Toronto LasikMD. It's day 2 post operation and when I went in for my post op check up yesterday morning I was already seeing 20/20. I have no eye soreness. Hello I recently went in for my year check up. According to them my eyes are healing well. My eyesight is better than 20 20 and they see no issues Now the real truth. I regret having the surgery. The halos and bright lights begin tv and theatres is a pain that I don't expect to go away anytime soon. That didn't show me the halo pics until after my surgery. I don't believe this surgery is ready for the public. For $6000 I expected a lot better I wear my sunglasses almost all the time when I'm out to try and avoid songs if the grare. So why not just wear my prescription transitional glasses. Yes i dont need them to read not in not sure if was worth it. The staff are friendly and nice of you go to the right location. Not Vaughan. NEGLIGENT SURGERY On February 26th 2021, I underwent laser eye surgery to correct a minor myopia and astigmatism. The surgery was conducted by Dr. Wallerstein. The day of the surgery, the clinical director, Maria, rushed me through the process to speak with the clinical counsellor, Tara, to have the consent forms signed. The clinical director said that the doctor was in "a rush "as he had a flight to catch to go back to Montreal. That statement proved fateful. After signing the documents, I took the Xanax offered by the clinic to calm my nerves. After taking the medication, the clinical director approached me and asked to sign additional documents that she had forgotten to make me sign. The surgery was performed in that afternoon and I went home. I returned the next day for my 24 hours check up appointment, still not aware of the results of the surgery. Everything was very blurry and I couldn't see from my right eye. My eyes were very swollen. I was tested by the eye care professional and was told that there was something wrong with the machine, jokingly saying that I "broke it". After realizing that I couldn't see from my right eye, I was told that I needed to see Dr. Lloyd right away in the surgery room to perform further examination. I was then seen by Dr. Lloyd since Dr. Wallerstein was back in Montreal on that day. After reviewing my result and my surgery file, Dr. Lloyd admitted that Dr. Wallerstein had made a mistake. One of my eye had been corrected to the wrong settings. The axis of my right eye were entered incorrectly in the laser machine which caused the laser to over correct my vision. I went from an approximate -1.25 (myopia) and -1.50 (astigmatism) to a +2.00 (myopia) and -4.00 (astigmatism). Dr. Lloyd immediately performed a procedure that he said he hoped would correct the error. I was told that it would take months before the impact of the mistake would be known. I was told that at this point, nothing more could be done. I had to sign an other consent form for the second surgery with fear and stress that I would lose my eyesight. The consent form specifically said a second surgery on the cornea needed to be performed months after the first one as it needed time to heal. I was left with no choice but to let Dr. Lloyd try and hope to fix the mistake. They re-opened the freshly cut cornea for a second time in the matter of less than 19 hour. I was left with no choice but to let the second surgeon try and hope to correct it. I was in convalescence for months. I lost my job because of it and went through a very stressful time on top of the pandemic. Dr. Wallerstein called me personally that weekend, to tell me that he was "disappointed" and without any apology. An update will follow up as It is still an ongoing issue, a year later. read more

They need to educate their staff better because I was told all those people who did the eye tests during my consultation n the pre surgery were only doing their routine who had no ideas how one patient is different than the other. It's their routine to tell you what you need but not necessarily what is best for your needs. They dont know nothing about the surgery. Today was supposed to be my surgery day. Waited for a month to finally get rid of my glasses for good then was told that my eyes are very different than most patients, that I was recommended to go see a specialist before the surgery. I appreciate the honesty before the surgery because I want to see not to go blind. However, it would've been very nice to be adviced before the day of your surgery about the abnormal high risk due to the condition of my eyes. I had told them about my eyes at the free consultation with every problems that I can think of. So, again at the pre surgery check up, I asked a lot of questions about the risks n complications due to the surgery but was confirmed that there r slim chances of complications n those r treatable by eye drops or can be corrected by laser surgery later on if needed included in the fee. Long story short, surgery was not done. I am extremely disappointed. Everyone who has to wear glasses n finally made up their mind to pay $6000 to go thru a scary procedure then was told later that it is very high risk on the day of the surgery will understand how disappointed it would be. read more

Please be warned about this place and the surgeons performing laser eye surgery at LasikMD. I'm appalled at the lack of professionalism and lack of knowledge of the staff and the surgeon who work here. I went for a consultation two weeks ago and was told I was a perfect candidate for corrective eye surgery and that they would guarantee me 20/20 vision. They told me the kind of surgery I would have and the price I would pay. This was all done by the staff (no interaction with the surgeon as he resides in another city - Montreal). I booked the appointment for the surgery on a Monday at 7:40am and booked three days vacation from work based on their recommendation. I received a voicemail from the clinic at around 3pm on the Friday before my surgery advising that the surgeon reviewed my file and decided to change the procedure type because he was concerned about the thinness of my cornea, and that my price has now increased due to this. What happened to being a perfect candidate? Is this a script they all follow in every consultation to get people to secure the money and take time off work? I decided to keep my appointment because I wanted to discuss directly with the surgeon (Dr. Mounir Bashour). I thought he would know more since he's performing the procedure, and supposedly done thousands in the past. On the day of my appointment, I was shocked at how amnoyed the surgeon was because I requested to have a conversation with him first before I made any payments. Yet, in their consent form they want you to sign off acknowledging that you were well informed and the surgeon and staff answered all of your questions. My first question to him was since you were concerned with my cornea being thin, what complications or risks should I expect. He replied saying he thinks my cornea is shaped irregularly and not concerned about the thinness. I felt at that point I was maybe on candid camera and this was all a joke! How can they misdiagnosed me three times in two visits? At that point I was not wasting another minute there - I told him I dont feel comfortable with any of this so I'm leaving. Does this clinic think someone eyes are not that important? Are they only interested in making a few bucks? Just be cautious about this place and don't hesitate to ask lots of questions before surgery. Sorry it took too long to continue the review, this is what happened next.. I went to the front desk to express my frustration and the office manager (I can't recall her name) invited me to have a seat while she investigated the matter further, I informed her that I'm willing to wait for another 10min and she rushed to the doctors office and came back and walked me to her office and apologized, she stated that the doctor needed to confirm with the senior doctors if this procedure is good for me (why wasn't this done prior to my arrival?) and that I'm welcome to proceed immediately if I wish to continue, I agreed and was taken to the procedure room. I'm glad to report that the procedure went well (0 pain) and I'm enjoying my new vision immensely. My advise is after the procedure, take your time to rest (I took a week) and give your eyes time to heal. The three stars is for the service level not the procedure, which in my book is the most important. At no time was I offered compensation for my wasted time, and no service recovery was attempted. A transformational surgery and a wonderful pre-op and post-operative experience. I just had my surgery on Thursday. My surgeon was Dr. Mark Cohen, who is one of the founders of LASIK MD. The entire process - from the consultation right through to the post-operative check ups have been fantastic. Dr. Cohen exhibited fantastic bedside manner and was a consummate professional. On the day of my surgery, I was advised that upon Dr. Cohen's review, his recommendation was that I receive a full-laser custom waveform LASIK treatment, which was a more expensive procedure than originally quoted for me. In the same breath that the staff told me of this change, they also noted that this upgrade would be done for free, as they don't like to "negatively surprise" their patients on surgery day. Amazing. Throughout my surgery, Dr. Cohen and his staff were friendly and explained every step of the process. Post surgery, I am just in awe of how quickly I have recovered, and how incredible my eye sight is. My only regret? Not doing this earlier! I've been wearing some form of corrective lenses for 32 years... and at 43 years of age, I can't believe that I can now wake up in the middle of the night and see! What a life changing experience. My first consultation was actually at the North York location, while my procedure was done at the downtown location. My initial consultation was quick and the staff at the North York location were friendly and professional. I decided to book the actual procedure downtown as I initially requested a Saturday appointment and they were the only office open that day. As the procedure date grew closer I became more and more nervous and actually called to have my procedure changed to a Friday to get it over sooner. When I first arrived at the downtown location the staff was again quick and friendly and I was given some paper work to fill out before having my vision tested again. Soon after that, I was called into the procedure room. Although I was there for about 4 hours it all went by very quickly. Dr Cohen was professional and made me feel at ease. It's been 2 weeks since I've had LASIK and I couldn't be more happy with the result! read more

First surgery 2012 went fantastic and service was exceptional. My eyes have naturally receded over the years and i require more surgery. Lasik not so responsive given this second surgery is covered under the life time guarantee. Not getting paid the second time means surgery time is months away, less flexibility and i am constantly having to follow up for everything. read more

Very bad customer service. My optometrist faxed them the referral but no one bothered to call me and book an appointment. I called and booked my appointment for a specific date and time but seems that the receptionist was sleeping when he confirmed it to me. Appointment was booked for 8:30am and they asked me to come in for 8:00am. I arrived on time, did a couple pre-procedure test and paid for the surgery. I had to wait from 9:00am to 1pm before I got called in for the procedure!? Why ask me to come in at 8? 5+hours just sitting here for something I pay for out of pocket ($4600)!! Awful experience! Went for a free consultation to see if I was a candidate and was told I was for regular laser surgery. I had it done 19 years ago so was very happy they said they could touch it up. Showed up for my surgery and was told the Surgeon would only do one eye because I have too much scar tissue. Oh and he might decide to do the other one if he thinks it looks good. Needless to say I was livid and left the building. These are my eyes not a hair appointment. My options should have been spelled out at the consultation not the day of surgery. Not after i made arrangements to take time off of work, arrange a family member to come with and drive and arrangements for my children. Plus i live 1 hour away!!!!! I will never return to Lasik Md. I am extremely disappointed and upset my time was wasted so that they could make a couple thousand dollars. These are my eyes not a hot dog stand!!! I strongly suggest going to a different place. I had the advanced custom wavefront surgery just over a year ago. I have a 'positive prescription'. Within 6 months I had to start wearing contacts again. One year after surgery my eyes regressed to what the were prior to having surgery. Regression was discussed as a possibility years down the road, however no one told me this surgery may not work. Yes I can have the surgery again for free in the future, however I just learned you can really only have it twice in your life... and who knows if it will work the second and final time. I wasted thousands of dollars on a useless surgery. If you have a positive prescription, rethink Lasik MD, it may be a huge waste of money. read more

I came here for a consultation a few years ago, but was too nervous to get this done. Fast forward to a few months ago, I was thinking about it again, and went to the North York location for consultation. The eye care professional was very nice and gentle, and explained everything very clearly and answered all my questions. The quotation/finance person was a lot more pushy (but so was my husband), and we ended up booking an appointment with Dr Wallerstein at the first Canadian place location because his schedule is quite busy. Surgery day came, I was one of the earliest appointments, and Jonathan - my eye care professional - checked my eyes again. He was great!!!!! Very patient and gentle, offered answers even though I couldn't think of any questions, shared his own experience (yes he did get LASIK himself), even though it's 8:15 in the morning. Next we had to pay, and Carly (sp?) was also very nice in going through everything, including the eye drops schedule and post-op care. Then I met Dr Wallerstein and he was clear in explaining everything as well. Because I requested Xanax, I had to wait another 30min before my surgery. Surgery itself was way faster than expected, and was not painful even though I was super nervous. The doctor and the OR staff were all very nice. I was in and out in 10 min for a -8 prescription. And Jonathan was right, I am one of the few people who's vision is Instantly better than before without glasses/contacts (though it's a bit blurry at this moment due to the flap). Other staff helped with putting in eye drops and a few of us that were resting were chatting in the darkened area a bit, then Jonathan checked my eyes again and i was all good to go. I was super tired and drowsy all afternoon so I just went home and slept all day. The next day everything is clear and I tell people LASIK = magic. read more

Dr. Wallerstein kept me completely calm and reassured the whole time during the surgery, and was very friendly and professional. The process itself is completely painless and very fast. Recovery is quick as well, the eyes are back to normal within 3 days, with the exception of dryness. I had Lasik surgery back in 2000. Unfortunately only for distance back then. The best decision I have ever made. I could read street signs at 500 feet! But I've had to use reading glasses for close up. Over the years (almost 20) the vision has changed. Time to do it again I thought. With technology improvements I was really excited at the prospect of seeing up close AND at a distance. I had my appointment downtown Toronto on June 13, 2017. The staff were professional and answered all of my questions. They recommended Refractive Lens Exchange for a whopping $6,000! They offered me their financing option (reasonable) and explained they sell the "paper" (debt) to Desjardin. Desjardin charges a fee for taking on the debt. Rates vary but 15% is probably a fair guess. So my $6,000 debt Desjardin would buy for about $5,100. I knew I wanted to do this (I had cash in hand ready to go) and asked why the customer isn't offered that discount if they are going to pay upfront. "I don't know" was the immediate response but assured me they would ask. Never did get an answer. I asked how soon can we do this? "We're fully booked to the end of October (3-1/2 months). I was really disappointed. She offered to call me when the November calendar became available. I also stated that if they had a cancellation CALL ME! I'd make myself available. Well it's now over 14 months later and no one has ever called! Being someone who was SO eager to go ahead I'm surprised they didn't bend over backwards trying to fit me in. There's a weak link in the chain that's destroying any good will they developed with me during my appointment. Several months ago I went to their website and there was an option to contact them by email. I specifically put Wallerstein's and Cohen's name at the top of the email. I didn't want my email going to someone else who was going to drop the ball. I explained everything as above (including asking why the discount they give Desjardin isn't offered to us). I already had a $300 discount from CARP but as a Senior on a fixed income any discount I can get is important. Not a peep after all these months. I had the worst experience here today. I got my surgery 6 years ago and purchased the life time insurance. At my yearly eye exam about a month ago I was told my right eye regressed and that a tweak surgery would help. The surgery was booked today and I went through the entire process and retesting where I was again told there was regression. When I went into the room for surgery Dr. Cohen explained the surgery would not resolve my "symptoms". I was extremely frustrated and asked him what about the recommendation and results from my eye tests. He said there was basically no change in my vision but perhaps I had dry eyes. I left without a correction. Obviously there is internal issues here in the process and recommendations. I don't believe a client should be put through this and be told while entering the surgery room that the procedure is not recommended. Very unprofessional and take care only about their reputation and reviews. And I will explain why. I booked a free examination and passed it, everything was ok. Technician, who checked everything, said that my case is difficult (i need to replace my own lens, which is not working properly after cataracta removing, with the implant), but anyway surgery can be done and I need to meet with a surgeon. They called me the same day and arranged the meeting with the surgeon for the next day. So i had to leave my job and go there. My appointment was arranged for 9:45 am. Once I came they told me that i need to wait a couple of minutes, and a surgeon will accept me. I waited for half an hour, when technician called me to the room, put some grops into my eyes (to be able to check them with a machine), and said to wait for the surgeon. I waited for another half an hour, again - none came. After 15 mins more, the same technician invited me to the room and said: that surgeon examined me already (online! i suppose lol), and decided that they can not do me a surgery because they are not sure about the result. I didn't get any other explanations, and still - I didn't see a surgeon who i was waiting for almost two hours. They did not give me any suggestions, and explained almost nothing. what i think - they just cannot do this kind of surgery, or they have not experince in this field, so they just afraid to ruin their "clear" reputation. But instead of explain everything, and suggest some clinics which are good in it (for sure, they know such), they just left me totally frustrated with no explainations, and took hours of my life for nothing. read more

My first consultation appointment was very easy and lasted less than 2 hours. I completed a bunch of eye tests, saw an eye care professional who explained to me the procedure and checked the health of my eyes, and lastly saw a councillor that broke down the different payment/financing options and surgery days available to me. I booked my surgery April 9 with Dr. Lloyd and I must say I was surprised by how painless and quick the procedure was! It took less than 15 minutes for both eyes and Dr. Lloyd was excellent in explaining to me the surgery and answering all my questions. The clinic staff was also very friendly and made sure I was comfortable at every step. After the surgery I had to come back for check-ups and thankfully everything was perfect!
