Spadina Optometry has done some great pivoting their business model. Enjoy the clichés. I was almost out of contacts. Pretty scary during this uncertain time. I need them. My glasses are wobbly, and can't be used to exercise (2 metres from others) or look cute in video calls. Boo. Luckily, SO has been extremely *nimble* and switched to email orders. They have my 'script on file, and I emailed and paid via transfer. My contacts arrived within two days. Brilliant.

I saw Dr. Grewal for the first time today. The full eye exam is $82. The pre-test included the…read moremachine with the balloon picture in it, and glaucoma (air puff) testing. During the eye exam, she took a history, asked me about any issues I had, and then did the "1 or 2 game" with me. She specifically mentioned assessing how my eyes work together, and did some tests with both eyes open that I hadn't had done before. I also opted for basic contact lens fitting, for an additional $55. For years, optometrists have been telling me that because I have mild astigmatism in one eye, all contact lenses are going to be blurry. (Basic lenses won't fix the astigmatism, and astigmatism lenses were too strong for me.) Dr. Grewal told me there's a "mathematical conversion" that will allow me to wear basic lenses and still have clear vision. This is the first time any optometrist has let me know this is an option. Dr. Grewal put contacts in my eyes. It took a number of tries to get the right lens in, and she kept reassuring me it wasn't my fault- which was actually really helpful. Then she taught me to remove and replace the lenses. For the next week, I'll wear contacts for longer and longer each day. Next week I'll return to report back on how these lenses feel, and she'll give me at least two different brands to trial. She says we can repeat this process until I find a contact lens brand I am most comfortable with, all for the $55 fee. Look and See is about fifty dollars cheaper than my previous optometrist down the street, and their care is way better. Dr. Grewal is knowledgeable and friendly, and I appreciate the guarantee that I'll find contacts I like. There was also no pressure to buy glasses or contacts from them (so far)! *It is important to note that these were the fees for eye exams and BASIC contact lens fitting as of January 2019, and these fees are subject to change. Astigmatism lens fitting costs more.*

I visited Doctor Vyas this summer due to a stye that had not gone away for months. He prescribed me…read moreoral antibiotics, that I was on 4x a day for 10 days. This felt very extreme. I was very hesitant because oral antibiotics affect the body in many ways, and affected my daily life at the time I was taking them. However, with my little knowledge, I trusted him. My issue did not go away. I was told later on by an ophthalmologist that I should have never been prescribed an oral antibiotic for a stye. I wish I would have known that these type of doctors are NOT ophthalmologists and are not specialized to deal with these issues. I do not recommend and please note if you are ever dealing with this issue.
