Not at ALL DEEP tissue , therefore not at all enjoyable.I am amazed how many massage therapists are too lazy to put the work into a deep massage. It's a lot of work and it's not easy therefore many of these massage therapists false advertise by saying they do deep massage and in reality they don't even come close. To us people who really go to these people needing and literally craving some deep tissue work , it's highway robbery practically when we lay there and then pay a lot of money for something we don't like or enjoy. Even when we say go deeper , they don't. It's like they are selfish and don't care at all what the client really wants. I've seen it time and time again. I imagine alot of these positive reviews could be friends and family. I now have a terrific guy. I couldn't be happier with Space! Johns space is very relaxing, calm, and quiet. The last time I got a massage was at Bliss, but I couldn't believe how much better this massage was. His place has dim lighting and unique decor which helps you relax upon coming in opposed to "windex cleaned, everything white and bright" commericalish massage place. Most places don't have a relaxed feel until you enter the room you're actually getting a massage in, but it's not like that at Space! Such a better experience right from the start. John really helps work with what you need and want you want. He really listens and talks to you before your massage to see what exactly he needs to focus on. I told him to really work on my upper body and I can't remember the last time my body was at such ease. I never felt better! When you're with John he helps make you feel more of a connection, which makes you feel that much more relaxed and comfortable as well. He's very kind and soothing - I was in a daze after my massage. Best. Massage. Ever. I have quite a unique story about the impact massage can have on you. I went to see John in April 2014 when I was 2 weeks overdue with my second child. I heard massage might help kickstart my labor and I had tried everything else on the planet, to no avail. I saw John at 11:30 am for a prenatal massage. It was the MOST relaxing massage I have ever had in my entire life (and I've had 200+ massages over the years!) My son was born that evening at 8:00 pm. Fast forward 2 1/2 years to last week. Deja vu! I was 2 weeks overdue with my 3rd child, had tried everything to get her moving. I saw John at 11:30 am again for a massage to get my labor going. I went into labor that night and my daughter was born the following day! Both births were very calm, peaceful home births, and I'm absolutely convinced it was because of the relaxing massages! I have only had one massage done by another guy which I did not relax or enjoy. Generally I am not comfortable with a guy giving me a massage. I have been following John on Twitter for about two years and decided to give it a shot when he offered again, like many times, to help me with my neck. John first invites you into his home and keep a comfortable distance from you and asks several questions about your lifestyle so he can get a feel of what treatment he needs to provide. (It can be odd knowing you're going to a man's house being a woman for a massage!) His studio is next to his home, which is beautifully done and very clean. The environment is relaxing and professional. I felt completely grounded after my massage and my body alignment was perfect. I was very pleased and was completely relaxed and had one of the best nights of sleep I've had in a long time. This will not be your usual massage and I highly recommend. After a 3,500 mile / 2 week road trip with the family we decided to end of trip in Phoenix before finally heading home to Los Angeles. Initially, since we were staying at a resort that had a spa I was going to book a massage on property, however for some reason as my husband tends to tease me about I can never just make things easy or simple - LOL! After reading through countless review of multiple spas and massage practitioners Space by far had the most consistently stellar reviews. I, of course was extremely skeptical because despite the reviews it was still a leap of faith. From the moment I arrived until I left John was welcoming, intuitive, professional and is truly a talented practitioner. Unlike your traditional spa/massage appointment where your "hour" appointment is really just 45-50 minutes John spent the first 20 or so minutes talking with me, getting to know the issues I was having, massage preferences and allowing me to also become comfortable. It was then the hour long session began. It was perfect and so much for what he shared with me i.e.: posture, movement, not feeling in pain or getting a headache the following day all made sense as sadly as previously hose were my experiences with other places. I only hope my review inspires someone new to also try Space and experience how truly gifted John is. There is a reason he has such a following what people are saying is TRUE! I have been getting massages off and on for over fifteen years but once I went to John I have never gone anywhere else. John always takes the time to listen before he gets started and his technique is amazing. One of the things I like most about Space is that John adjusts his technique according to my current needs or "pains". I've received three massages from John at Space Massage Studio - I'm really convinced it's the best massage in Phoenix. I've had work from all over the country and many different styles of massage, and am a massage therapist myself, so I have very high standards when it comes to picking a massage therapist. The studio is lovely; simple, chic, calming, AND so close to La Grande Orange I can make a pit stop for some goodies and poke around the Arcadia area after a session. Not only do the massages feel amazing while receiving them, but the effects actually last and I'm never sore afterwards. Because John runs the whole show, I never feel rushed or like I'm being hustled for return business like some of the bigger spas do. How do you feel after a massage? I had never been asked that before by a massage therapist, and felt grateful for his thoughtfulness. John makes the massage personal and comfortable so that you feel at home. My partner surprised me with a session for my birthday, and there was no better way to celebrate! I loved that, during the massage, no part of my body felt separate from another. Everything felt connected and whole. For example, while John would be working on my back, there were warm towels grounding me at my feet. The session was full of consciousness and careful attention. Wish I could rave about Space Massage like the others but I thought the experience was mediocre at best. Sure he has a cool place with an interesting vibe but my needs were talked out of based on his "expertise". I didn't feel it was my massage. The room was too hot and it stayed hot even after saying so.
