    Chicken Salad
    Jade L.

This marks the fifth and final Souvla location in SF I've been to! When I first moved to the city over two years ago, Souvla was my obsession. I got countless chicken salads from the other four city locations. My friend and I were recently in the Dogpatch area for an art exhibit, so we decided to come here after for dinner because she'd never tried Souvla before. It was a hit! She got the chicken wrap, and I got my usual chicken salad minus the cheese and with olive oil dressing substitute. Consistent as ever, Souvla never misses.

Had an excellent experience here today! Friendly staff, chill environment, and simple tasty food. Our lunch came out quick. We all enjoyed our selections and the Yogurt after is an absolute must. The simple, tasteful decor makes for a calm place to have a casual meal. This was my first time trying their savory food and I am happy to say I was not disappointed. I see why its has been so popular. This is a easy , healthy choice.

Tasty, fresh, and always a solid choice! Souvla does Greek food really well -- the meat is flavorful and tender, the salads are fresh, and the sauces bring everything together. Love the casual vibe and the quality ingredients. Great spot for a quick lunch or an easy dinner with friends. Don't skip the Greek fries and frozen Greek yogurt!

Order at the counter and take a number for dine in. Greek yogurt was tasty and served fast. In terms of personal enjoyment, 1. baklava crumbles 2. wildflower honey 3. olive oil The greek yogurt overall tasted really good. It was slightly tart and very smooth.

I stopped by Souvla yesterday for an order of fries and a lamb salad. Because the restaurant was completely empty on the Tuesday evening, food was prepared quickly. Within two minutes, the order was ready to go -- impressive. While the fries were delicious -- crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, the salad was extremely disappointing. I have never had lamb overcooked to this degree. It was drier than any chicken breast, turkey, or jerky and was almost inedible. It wouldn't surprise me if the cubes of meat had been sitting around of hours in a heating tray, and then overcooked when reheated. As I'm re-reading my review from my first visit, I see that dry proteins is a clear pattern. For that reason, I would avoid both the lamb salad and the chicken salad and only come here for the fries. For a $20 salad, I would expect more.

I got the lamb salad through delivery. The blend of kale and romaine lettuce with radish and pickled vegetables had great texture and flavor. They gave a good amount of lamb, which was tender and delicious!

After living in the City for a while, I finally decided to try the hyped Souvla that everyone's raving about. I came here around 6PM and the place was bustling, but we still found a place to spot to sit and enjoy a quick meal. You go in and order at a kiosk with a person, like a coffee shop, before getting a number and seating yourself. You then wait for someone to bring your food over. I ordered a Lamb salad and Chicken salad. The lamb had that gamey flavor if you're looking for it, while the chicken is more tame. Both were pretty good for the price, and my wife and I both felt full afterwards even with the lack of carbs. They give a good amount of meat, and the vegetables tasted very fresh. There were some fruits in the chicken salad which was a nice surprise. Food came out within 10 min, and the overall vibe is like an upscale nick the greek. This establishment is fairly priced and with the smaller menu, makes it pretty easy to pick what you want. I have yet to try their frozen yogurt, but I've heard it's also really good. Interior decor is very pretty, and sunlight gets in pretty well in the afternoon.

    Sweet potato salad, Greek style

Beautiful and cozy outpost of this SF fast casual staple! Souvla has always been a favorite, with its outstanding salads, pitas, and frozen yogurt. My go-to is their vegetarian salad, which is absolutely loaded with tons of fresh greens, cheese, olives, nuts, and roasted white sweet potato. You can also get any salad Greek style and add a solid helping of fries on top for just $1 -- a great choice if you don't want to have an entire side of fries but still want something crispy. The salads are pretty big, so they can often be multiple meals (or one meal and a snack), especially if you get them with fries :). This location is especially fun -- I love how wide and open the space is, especially with their super high ceilings. The overall vibe is almost industrial chic, but they also have this really fun tree encased in glass in the center of their back wall. The team is awesome and super efficient and friendly -- can't wait to come back!

    Smoked Trout Salad

This is the best salad I've had in a while. The Smoked Trout was more expensive than the other options but worth every dollar. There was a variety in flavors and textures and almost too much trout. I'm likely getting a second tomorrow as it's seasonal and I won't be in the neighborhood until who knows when...

Honestly the frozen greek yogurt was fire, ild recc the one with baklava topping and it was so good. The option with sour cherry is good but I feel it's not enough flavor and melts the froyo faster. I tried their one vegetarian option for the wraps and tbh it's just a big slice of sweet potato, I don't think u really get ur bang for ur buck with this option but the other choices looked fire. I just wouldn't get the vegetarian entree option coming here. Also service was good and ambiance was nice looking inside!

I am not sure why they say they spit roast the meats here. I was expecting the pork to be much more gyro like but it had a stewed texture. The lamb also looked stewed. The venue is nice and airy. I would also say the bread for the sandwich was too hard and the frozen yogurt with olive and salt was way too salty. I had to scrape most of the salt off. It's like rock salt

Between how much I love them and the number of times I've had their food, I'm genuinely surprised this is only the second Souvla I've reviewed. Granted, it kind of makes sense, given how they don't have THAT many locations (five...and counting!), but still! Almost every time I see one, it's almost impossible not to stop in - not when nearly everything I've had has always been so delicious! Whether you're interested in their salads, wraps, lamb, pork, chicken, fries, soup, or frozen Greek yogurt, the menu here is no different than what you'll find at any other Souvla. However, it took just one visit for this one to become my favorite location. Although it's not demonstrably larger than their spots in Hayes Valley and NoPa, they always seem to have seats available and there's never a line. Plus, it's so much easier to find parking in the neighborhood (I've never had to circle around). Perhaps that's also why the vibes here are far more relaxed and chill! -- VANDE ROSE FARMS PORK SHOULDER SALAD - Minted Greek Yogurt, Cherry Tomato, Cucumber, Pickled Red Onion, Feta Cheese...$16 Not only my favorite dish here, but one of my favorite DISHES anywhere (not just salads!). Honestly, this is so good - the pork is juicy and well seasoned, the dressing is delicious, and the greens are always super fresh. SO DELICIOUS! -- VANDE ROSE FARMS PORK SHOULDER PITA SANDWICH - Minted Greek Yogurt, Cherry Tomato, Cucumber, Pickled Red Onion, Feta Cheese...$15 This is one of my favorite pitas around, but, somewhat surprisingly, I actually like the salad version better (same for the rest, too). While the combination of the pork, yogurt, and veggies tastes just as awesome, it feels like some of the juices are lost to the pita. That said, I wouldn't say no to getting this, either! -- GREEK FRIES - Olive Oil, Lemon Juice, Parsley, Mizithra Cheese...$5 I don't always get this, but when I do, it's always a good decision! The fries are crispy and never oily/greasy while the mizithra cheese and lemon juice add a lot of flavor. They also have dipping sauces for $1 (the Harissa-spiked and "Granch" are great), but they aren't necessary either. -- THOMAS FARMS LAMB LEG SALAD - Harissa-Spiked Yogurt, Cucumber, Radish, Pickled Red Onion, Feta Cheese...$17 In the highly unlikely event I don't want pork, this is my go-to back up. As tasty and moist as the lamb was, the most impressive thing about it was how it's not at all gamey. Plus, I liked how well it meshed with the Harissa-spiked yogurt - yum! -- AVGOLEMONO SOUP - Traditional Egg-Lemon Soup with Chicken & Rice...$7 On a cold night in SF, this is the perfect way to warm you up! The portion size is pretty fair for the money and there's a good amount of chicken and rice. One thing to note is that the lemon in this is pretty strong, which I liked, but I can see why some folks wouldn't like this as much as I do. Besides how much I love this particular location and how consistent the food has been, the staff here is just as awesome. The workers have all been really nice and the kitchen gets orders out ridiculously fast, regardless of you're dining in or grabbing your orders to-go. Despite how it may not be the closest Souvla to me, I'm more than happy to drive a little further for all of the benefits and delicious food it has to offer, whether it's for their pitas, salads, or their frozen Greek yogurt!

Scene: 2 p.m. on a Thursday, a sunny day in Dogpatch I saw there is a Souvla. Wow, is that new? I saw a line at the entrance, and asked a man if it were new. He wasn't sure, but remarked that the photo on the wall is the same as the one in Hayes Valley. The interior exhibits industrial elegance, with beautiful light fixtures. There were a few groups finishing lunch. After a partly disappointing lunch nearby, I wanted a treat. What better than their Greek yogurt? Yes, Greek yogurt is ubiquitous in grocery stores, with many brands. It is healthy for you so maybe not interesting to some. It is no longer a novelty. However, when it first appeared on the menu at Souvla, I was impressed. Its smoothness with the addition of olive oil and sea salt is great. What a good idea to combine these flavors! Now we have olive oil ice cream, but when Souvla first opened, its frozen Greek yogurt was (and still is) a great concept. I will return for one of my favorite desserts. Stop by when you're in the area!

I booked our table about a month in advance, which turned out to be the right move because the restaurant was bustling during the lunch hour. To start, we ordered four small plates to share among our party of four: meatballs, saganaki, spanakotiropita, and a pair of dips (melitzanosolata and favasalata) with pita. Everything was excellent, and our spread was inclusive of a wide variety of flavors and textures: salty, creamy, acidic, sweet, crunchy. The meatballs and the dips are definitely a must-order and are ideal for sharing. The spanakotiropita were larger and more filling than expected, so if I were to order those again, I'd dial it back and stick with small plates rather than a full-sized entree. The saganaki was a showstopper; it is served sizzling and crackling on a cast iron dish and had a nice salty flavor that allowed the cheese to be served on its own. For my main dish, I ordered the braised goat - which is not something I'd typically order because goat meat is usually tough - but I was intrigued how it was prepared as a stew. The dish almost reminded me of a Moroccan tagine - the goat was braised to peak tenderness and bathed in a slightly fruity and well-spiced sauce; dotted with pieces of melted feta; and served on top of a bed of baked orzo, which was served fresh-from-the oven in a mini cast iron dish. I was so full after our meal that I had to walk it off for a few blocks, but I cannot wait for our next special occasion so we can come back and celebrate with another feast at Kokkari Estiatorio.

This is type of food where you take your time eating to savor your food to taste the silky texture of the meat or let the sauce soak into the octopus appetizer to soften it and tastes good. I would have ordered a salad but with the health scare of salads recall made me hesitant to order any, although the specials sounded great! You can still cannot go wrong as every dish was great experience and great execution. Love the melted cheeses in appetizer and custard in dessert with pistachio ice cream! The meats really shined as we asked for medium rare and both steak and lamb chops cooked perfectly. Would I go back? , oh yeah and splurge on this place for sure. It just felt special to me. The service apparently called out sick. Let's start with the good news: the food was genuinely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The mint lemonade was bright and refreshing. The chicken skewers were flavorful and perfectly cooked (though surprisingly small). The halumi salad with eggplant was a generous portion. Now for the "Mooore" part. I was hoping the restaurant's name was also a mission statement. However, we could have used more attentive service. More follow-through. More toilet paper... Unfortunately, once we were seated, we were essentially released into the wild. Ordering is done by scanning a QR code, which is perfectly fine in theory. In practice, it felt like sending requests into the void. A drink I ordered never appeared. Nobody checked on the table, so I had to get up and walk to the counter to ask about it. Later, I had to make another trip to remind them we had ordered dessert. Then another trip when we wanted a to-go box. Apparently, the evening's theme was "interactive dining," where the guests perform most of the customer service duties themselves. Tips are forced when you first order online - no refunds on that. The bathroom offered its own adventure. The trash bin was overflowing with dirty paper towels, and there was little to no toilet paper available. As the daughter of a health inspector, knowing that staff use the same facility, I would have given this a poor hygiene grade. What made the experience frustrating was that the food was good enough to make you want to come back. But when your guests spend half the meal looking for someone to help them, it takes away from what could have been a 'more' pleasant evening.

Cus I ordered the food without mentioning water, so it must be one of those don't ask don't get kinda things. As requested. FOOD: *lamb & beef gyro plate: what is this goodness! Meat is so tender. How nicely it sits on top of this rice. Pour some tzatziki sauce over both and eat it. Delightful. Comes with a side of seasoned tomato much like a salsa consistency. There was a red liquid salsa sauce too on this plate so you can pick what you want to dip your meat into *hummus with chicken kabob: o what now this is something new I haven't tried! Delicious! The garbanzo beans are blended enough that the hummus is completely smooth. Good salty flavor. Comes with triangle pieces of bread oops I mean pita to dip. I slathered the hummus all over my pita. Pita was swimming in hummus. Why not, cus they give you plenty of hummus in that bowl. How many times did I shout "delicious" throughout and after this meal. Maybe 4 times. Am I talking to myself or to my friend. Doesn't matter. Sangria available in glass, half, and full size So clean inside. Got that new restaurant feel.

As a takeout place, Gyros and Tzatziki normally gets four stars, but as a restaurant, it's definitely three stars, and I'll tell you why. This place needs better management. Failing that, one of the three guys who is normally working when I come needs to take charge, because the current setup isn't working. You order at the counter, which is common at many San Francisco restaurants. One of the three guys will help you, but sometimes, one of them is just sitting or standing a few feet away from the cash register, but he won't acknowledge your presence. It's as if only people who will actually take your order are allowed to speak to you. Once you do (eventually) place your order, you're in for a wait. If you're eating in, that's all right, because the food is definitely worth the wait, and the small seating area is normally comfortable. If you're taking it to go, however, they refuse to say anything about where to be while waiting. I normally just sit down at an empty table because I know it will be awhile, but when I stand, I always feel like I'm in someone's way. When they're busy, not only does your food take forever to come out, but the service just goes out the window. Again, only three guys working, including the chef, but why does one of the remaining two guys always seem to be so stand-around-looking-dumb lazy? And the funny part is that it's not always the same guy; the one I used to think was a hard worker was sitting in a chair near the back last time I came. It was like he was in a timeout; he wasn't looking at his phone, just yelling random things to the cook occasionally while the other poor guy had to deal with four different parties eating in, plus all the to-go orders. So order it to go before you arrive. Or sit down and try to figure out what's going on.

My friend and I got the fattoush salad to share along with the Chicken Shish Tawook plate and Musakhan for entrees. The salad was a nice fresh start and the charred dates added a nice sweetness. Loved the juicy chicken kebobs with a side of their delicious hummus. The musakhan had to be my favorite bite though, the chicken is so tender and flavorful and goes really well with the toasted pita. I would come back just for this dish alone! It's a counter-order restaurant which i didn't expect but it makes it a super quick sit-down restaurant to stop at and I loved sitting on their outdoor patio considering it was a nice sunny SF Sunday!

I ordered the chicken and beef kabob plate, and while the meat was flavorful, I wish they included more hummus. At around $25- $30 per plate, I expected a more generous portion. I ordered takeout and arrived about an hour later because the app never updated to show my order was ready. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't very busy, and they didn't start preparing my food until I got there. I mentioned that I had placed the order an hour earlier and expected it to be ready, but the server seemed to brush off my concern, which was disappointing. One highlight was the hot sauce. I'm not sure if it's house-made or not, but it's so good. The pita, however, was a letdown. I prefer my pita soft, fluffy, and warm, but this one was hard and grainy. Overall, it's a cute restaurant with decent food, but it isn't my top choice.

It is not a sit-down restaurant and doesn't pretend to be. What it is, is consistently excellent food at prices that still make sense in a city where that's getting rare. We're regulars, and we usually go on Sunday evenings after my girlfriend gets off work. Falafel wrap and chicken shawarma are our usual order -- the falafel has that crisp-shell, tender-middle thing going, and the wraps are generously built. We've branched out plenty and everything we've tried has been good. The other reason we keep showing up is the people. Turna usually takes our order, and she is genuinely lovely -- friendly in a way that isn't a customer-service script. My girlfriend and I always walk out in a better mood than we walked in with, which is worth a lot. Practical notes: halal, lots of vegetarian and vegan-friendly options, open until midnight Fri/Sat, and they cater. Grab some napkins if you're eating the wrap on the move -- it's a big one, and that's a compliment.

I'm a big fan of the chicken shawarma--it's really flavorful and hits the spot when it's done right. That said, on a couple of my previous orders the meat was a bit on the dry side, but I still find myself coming back because when it's on point, it's really good. Staff is friendly, and most of the time you can stand on their ledges to eat or sit outside. There were 2 small tables that seat 2-3 per table. Pro tip: ask for the tahini and hot sauce on the side and load it into your wrap--it takes it up a notch.
