Southwest Alignment - 8648 Richmond Ave, Houston I've been bringing my vehicles to Southwest Alignment since at least 2017. Today was another reminder why. I came in for an alignment on my 2017 Toyota Prius V. Israel quickly found worn outer tie rods. When I pushed and pulled on the front wheels, there was slight side-to-side wobble (no vertical play). That means the wheels were subtly toeing out while driving, which wears the inside edges of tires. The team replaced the outer tie rods and reset toe correctly. For reference, the goal isn't "perfectly zero." Most cars are set to about 0.10° toe-in so that under driving load everything tracks straight. Now the steering feels tight and centered again. For anyone who worries about minor spec differences: my right caster is 0.5° lower than the left. That is within Toyota's factory spec and not adjustable on this vehicle. In fact, most cars are set with equal caster or slightly lower on the right because of road crown. Roads slope right for drainage, so cars naturally drift that way. That's physics, not a bad alignment. Shawn at the front desk explained everything clearly. No fluff. No overselling. Just facts. He was also candid about what they do and what they don't do. Their bread and butter: * Suspension * Steering * Brakes * CV axles * Toe, camber, caster * Lowering & lifting * Oversized wheel setups Not their lane: * Check engine lights * Fluid leaks I appreciate that focus. Lee has 32 years experience. Israel has 15. Both have been here over a decade. That matters. Many alignment shops rotate young techs through with minimal training. Here, experienced technicians stay. Its brand promise is to fix problems right the first time. That's been my experience repeatedly. If your steering feels loose, your tires are wearing unevenly, or your car tracks funny, this is where you go in Houston. And yes, your car may still drift slightly right on crowned roads. Got recommended to go this shop for an alignment, as I was due for one, as well as due for new tires, and I called up Lee and he said that I can bring my car in at 7am and I would hear back in the afternoon. As it was a Friday I decided to work remotely and just stay at the shop so that I would not need to spend money on ubers (as I live far). Until 12:30pm my car was still sitting in the same spot I was told to park it at which was the first annoying thing. Fast forward to about 4:30pm (at this point I had no choice but to uber back to my house) I get a call about my struts and shocks needing to be replaced, and was given a quote. THE BIGGEST MISTAKE was telling Lee to go ahead with the fixes. I was frustrated that after keeping my car in that shop for the whole day I would still need to get repairs done so in the haste of it I said yes instead of taking it back to my usual mechanic, (which, in hindsight I should have done). I come back Monday morning to pick up my car, take it to get new tires, and the tire shop did the tires, and then did an alignment check. the alignment check came out wrong on their machine which was the first thing that pissed me off, but what's even worse was after they lifted the car up and showed me , I saw that it was missing a sway bar link on my right side, and my right strut was not fully fixed. and when I called Lee, he was like oh yea you never had one and we forgot to tell you, here is another quote for that. WHAT EVEN IS THIS SYSTEM (i knew this was a lie because before I took it to southwest, I got new control arms installed at my usual mechanic, and he confirmed that was never the case, because he would've noticed and told me immediately). I wasted $740 on these southwest guys Eventually I had to take it my usual mechanic, and he installed the missing sway bar link and pushed the right strut all the way in. Also to mention the struts that these southwest guys ordered were some cheap parts which I have no option to change (due to expensive costs) and just keep and hope they last me long on my car. Even upon calling Lee after the realization of the missing part, the first thing he does is blame the tire shop for making up lies. read more

*BUYER BEWARE* came here for an alignment. After about 30 minutes of my vehicle on the lift the mechanic came in to quote more than $1200 in repairs. I was shocked but took notes. I didn't authorize the repairs. There was no report given & I had to pay a $20 fee. Imagine my absolute SHOCK when I took my vehicle that same day to a front end and alignment shop for a 2nd opinion. After test driving my vehicle twice (this place didn't do that) & having it on the lift about an hour; the mechanic told me there was NOTHING WRONG with my vehicle. In fact it didn't even need an alignment! He pointed me to the tire shop next door for tire balancing. $30 and my vehicle is driving like new! The reviews here suggest this place is fair but that was not my experience at all. I am grateful I got a 2nd opinion and didn't have to shell out $$$ unnecessarily before the holidays read more

They are located on Richmond right next to Pep Boys and an auto lot. There is a small waiting area inside with a vending machine for drinks. Restroom is there for customers. I brought my car in Saturday afternoon and within 10 minutes my car was up on the lift getting ready for an alignment. You fill out a small form with your contact information. The mechanic asked if I had any concerns in which I did. I bought new tires back in September and put off getting an alignment until now. After maybe about 20 minutes or so my car was finished and they took it around the block to make sure everything felt right. Upon check out the lovely lady whose name I didn't get explained to me which areas of my tires/wheel were off. The total was $60 for my vehicle make. Got there a little after the lunch hour, so they werent busy and completed my 4 wheel alignment in less than 45 minutes at half the cost of what I was quoted at several other shops. Saw them lift and align a Mercedes 350 that was sitting basically on the ground too, so these guys definitely have the care and finess to work on fancier cars it appears. I have known about Southwest alignment since they were still in the old location on Skyline. Throughout the years, I have heard great things about them. I had taken my old cars to their Skyline location a few times, but ever since they moved to the Richmond location quiet a few years ago, I haven't taken any of my other cars back. I know I've been slacking with my car maintenance. I decided that after owning my car for 5+ years, it was finally time to bring her in for an alignment. I called in first to ask about the wait time. I was told roughly 30 minutes in and out and that it would cost me $60. What? That's it?! Yup. $60 to have my car aligned. I had thought of getting Firestone lifetime alignment, but that would have run me $170. I would have to bring my car in at least three times to get my money worth and since I've only gotten one alignment in the past five years, I just didn't think it was worth it. By the way, a wheel alignment would run me $80 at Firestone. And these prices were "internet' prices. So I'm not sure how much they would quote you if you were to bring your car in without checking online first. Anyway, I brought my car in to SW Alignment and within five minutes someone came out to take my car to start working on it. They have six alignment bays here, so unless they have more than six cars at any one time then chances are they're going to start working on your car right away which means that you'll never have to wait very long. Which is a good thing. Why? Well, the only bad thing about SW Alignment is they have a small wait room with no TV and no Wi-fi. No coffee either so unless you have your phone on you or a tablet with internet connection, or a book, that's going to be a pretty boring 30 minutes wait. My car was done at about the 30 minutes mark. However, the guy working on the car took her out for a test drive and then putting her back in the alignment bay for some final adjustments. Another 10 minutes and I was good to go. P.S. If you check in here on Yelp, they offer 10% off your bill. I checked in after I had paid and I didn't bother claiming it. It was already pretty cheap and I had somewhere else to go. But for you other people wanting to bring your car in, make sure you check in here!! read more

Quick and easy! They are soo freaking awesome, I needed an alignment after getting new tires and every time I drove noticing when I let go of the wheels that my wheel would veer towards the right, also my tread on my tire was being odd. I went to wal-mart to get it done but they don't do alignments but the guy suggested southwest alignments on Richmond. I seriously thought I was going to be their nontypical clientele because I look down richmond and my tiny hatchback Kia doesn't fit the description of having tricked out rims or being a low rider. I went in the guy said $60 for an alignment for my Kia rio and said 30 minutes tops to finish and he could take it in right away as I was still filling out the paperwork. Waiting wasn't all that long and before I knew it we were done and out, $60 gets you 6 months warranty or 6,000 miles, so that's stinkin awesome. I called around for quotes and pep-boys told me 79.99 for 3 months and 109.99 for a year. No thanks, a flat $60 and awesome service and we were in and out. The owner of this dilapidated shanty, Lee Jeffs, charged me $160 in labor for a job that took under 5 minutes of his precious time. Based on Lee's mathematical wizardry, his shop rate is $800/hr; my attorney charges me less than half of what Lee does for an hour of his time. After paying my grossly over-inflated bill, I took the liberty of calling 3 competing shops to see what they would charge for the work that was performed (really wish I would have done this prior to trusting Lee to be honest). It turns out that the going rate to have 2 lower control arm bushings installed (provided pressed into a new housing) is $50-60. Lee feels that he is entitled to a 300+% surcharge for his efforts and I vehemently disagree. In summary, neither Lee's foul attitude, filthy shop, and sloppy work justify a visit to Southwest Alignment Service. I HIGHLY recommend one take their business to Avirex Alignment which is not far away; Avirex is owned/operated by former Southwest Alignment employees and they are prompt, courteous, efficient, and do not overcharge. read more

My car was having issues with uneven tire wear, and I was instructed to get it evaluated. I visited Southwest Alignment Service after reading reviews on Yelp. Tianna provided a friendly greeting while I waited to have the car evaluated by Lee. I couldn't have been happier with Lee's honesty regarding my car. He identified the problem as a bent tie rod. When I asked where, he identified exactly an area of the car which had been hit years earlier. Obviously complete repairs were not made at the body shop years ago, and an alignment which was done just a few months ago at the dealership was done incorrectly. Although I couldn't wait for repairs, Lee phoned me once they were done, Lee provided a very thorough explanation of what they did along with printout, and obviously is a professional at what he does. The work may have been good but the experience was just awful. spoke with Lee, as he came recommended by a friend of mine. We set up an appointment for a Saturday two weeks out. The day before (Friday) the day of my appointment, i received a call wondering where i was. Lee was confused and had two dates written down. He said that he gets in at 7:00 am, and that i can get there to drop the car off before the 8:00 am opening time. I was there at 7:00, and waited outside until 5 after 8:00, as that is when Southwest alignment acknowledged that there were customers in line outside. I waited my turn, gave them the keys, and asked when the work would be finished. i was told that "it would be done when it is done." While they close a 4:00pm, i received a call at 5:30 telling me that the work was finished, and that i should come pick up the car. I explained to Lee that i was in Spring, and could not pick up the car that evening. That is when he started swearing at me, and then he just hung up on me. I went by the shop on the way home, and found the car was inside the shop, and safe (it was a collectable). I showed up Monday, paid the bill, and that's when the fun started. The ignition switch had been left on, and the battery was dead. In addition, there was no clutch. I couldn't get the car in gear. I have no explanation for this. As there was no apparent leak in the hydraulic system. I needed help, but i was told that this issues i was having were "my problem." I could not get any help, and it was if i wasn't even there. I felt invisible and ignored. I went to buy silicone fluid, and when i came back, they had pushed the car into the parking lot (it was 103F), making it an issue (burned skin) to try and bleed the system. I eventually got a friend with a trailer to show up, and towed the car home (very grateful for that help). The attitude showed by their lead mechanic was very unprofessional, and i would advise anyone who needs alignment work to go elsewhere. It could only be a better experience. read more

Traveling through Houston area and became concerned about continuing to drive on a broken strut mount. Unfortunately, it was Sunday and all the shops were closed. Nevertheless the owner, Ajay, responded to my request for a quote via Yelp and gave me Lee's number to call in the morning. When I reached out Lee was already aware of why I was calling and said he could help get us back on the road. In the end it turned out we needed both front strut assemblies replaced, but Lee took the time to show me the mess that was happening under my car so I could make an informed decision. I have used Southwest Wheel Alignment service since 1995. I have always had great service from the techs working there except for the shop manager, Lee on my last two visits where he worked on my cars. In particular this last time whn I took my 2016 Dodge Challenger in after having new parts replaced under it. I advised it had a "Used" subframe installed to replace the original that had been damaged. After the alignment he comes in and goes through a lengthy explaination of hiw it was a used fame and was probaly not better than the one replaced ( He never saw it) an that he has to shift soome hings to get the numbers to read as best he could. He went on explaining how most techs only want the "Green numbers" because it is in tolerance of factory specs. He explained that my car only has "Toe he can adjust on the front, yet my car was on the rack foe over an hour. When he went out to test deive everyone in the office could hear him accelerate away down the side street as my car has a loud exhaust and supercharger whine that is unmistakeable. I regreted at that very moment that I did not put the car in valet mode before he worked on it. I also was aprehensve about him working on this car after he head worked on my classic 1965 Chevy Nova a few yeras ago. I took it all in stride at the time and drove the car home. I steers a lot better although not perfect. The next day I hear a sound that sounded like a brake pads scraping in the front. I look under the car and see that the front plastic shield is hanging down. After putting the car on ramps I see the pins that hold that piece up in all the holes they should be. It was clear that someone removed them to lower the plastic shield and place them in the holes to not lose them. Also the adjoing shield was missing, I called to ask about my part missing and explained about the part hanging down. I had to wait four days before Lee called me back and he proceeded to deny he took that part down He laughed at me and said they could have fallen off on the road. I have a 56 mile trip to that shop and back and the loose pins or shield that was there did not fall off. He also said that it must have been hanging like that when it came in. Now I call BS. If it had been hanging when it came in Lee definitely would have saw that and told me. The issue I had with him before on my classic, he tightened every bolt "Gorilla" tight on the 4 link in the rear of the car that came in for a front end alignment. Now as he is wrking on the front od a car and something is hanging down in fronf of his face as he is working and he didn't tell me. He told me about the bolts he tightened on the classic. I work on my own cars and have been for over 40 years. I keep them up and have updated or aftermarket parts on them for improved peformance. I had just put the new parts on the front of my Challenger Hellcat when I took it in. It had not been driven since it needed to have an alignment until I drove it that day to get one. From my driveway to them and back. No other person EVER works on my cae but me. Lee is the only person that was under my car that day, yet he stands by he didn't do it. He kept asking me why would he steal my part on the phone and claimed i was accusing him of stealing. I want to make it clear, I am accusing him of lying! Isreal is the best tech they have. And because you can't request who works on your car, I will be searching for a new location to do my 1970 Camaro I am just about finished restoring. This place is not worth the drama. The old guys that operated the 2 bay shop back in the 90's had GREAT customer service. read more

Hands down best alignment shop in the Houston area! Lee and the office assistant Tiana have great customer service and EXTREMELY informative if you are willing to listen to their expert advise. I have a leveled 2018 F-150 and Lee thoroughly educated me on what the initial readings meant, what was adjusted and why. Also explained that my Toyo all terrain tires needed 45-50 psi to work and wear properly, then adjusted air pressure accordingly. Not even Discount Tire knew this when I had them rotate and balance (they just go by the basic psi recommended for most cars). Lee checked the wear and advised to rotate every 5k miles for optimal life and performance. He even encouraged me to come back if anything at all wasn't up to my standards. I took him up on that the next day as my steering wheel was a little off center. He fixed with a smile and of course no charge as it's part of their commitment to customer service. I took my truck here cause it was vibrating a little and idk was wrong with it, i talked w Lee by phone and he was very confident to found what's the problem I left it on one Wednesday next day he called me w a lot thing I need to change cause he said my truck was bad u need new shocks (I just changed them there new) and he told me u need a new lower kit take the one u have and we put a new one and I what? Probably he thought I'm an idiot I know my truck and he told me like that he can't make an alignment and he said his not responsible if u take ur truck if something happened it's no safety how's possible I was driving my truck w that little vibration and I what if he did something to my truck cause I don't want to change all the things he want to change i was very uncomfortable now w my truck he don't want me to take out my truck he was very persistent to change a lot thing to my truck and when I said NO he was pissed . I went and pick it up next day cause he call me around 4 and I can't make it on time to close so I went Friday at 8:30 and take my truck he don't said nothing else in person and guess what my truck still vibrates but now A LOT why? They do not like you to ask questions about their work or their prices. When we asked them, they became belligerent and the receptionist was especially RUDE. This app make you give them at least 1 star which they do not deserve. Way too expensive POST PANDEMIC. I am sure anyone who goes to them AFTER this post will experience good customer service since they will not like this post. PLUS after we challenged them on price gauging, he slammed the door in our face. When it became a necessity for me to hold my steering wheel @ almost 20 degrees right of center just to go straight down the road, I knew I was long overdue for an alignment...I guess 214K miles of pothole-ridden Houston roads did a real number on my car. Luckily, this place popped up when I did a search on Yelp. What I hate most about car places is joints that try to up-sell you on random crap which was not an issue at all here. This place is a no-frills shop that does straight up alignments. I came by after work on a weekday at 6:30, and the place was packed. At first I was lamenting that I would have to wait forever, but fortunately these guys were ridiculously efficient. When you go in you fill out a short form and give them your key and they put your work order in the queue. They must have had at least 3 or 4 mechanics working at the same time and one by one they would come in and grab the next work order. They had me in and out in less than an hour even with several people in front of me. All that for $60, which was a real bargain. $10-20 cheaper than most big-name chains, and without any BS. I've gone to these guys twice for my car (once for bearing repair and another for a checkup) and the amount you pay is pennies for the amount of knowledge you get about your car. These people make an honest living and you can tell how enthusiastic and knowledgeable they are about almost anything from the tires, to the suspension..I feel like I could ask them anything and they'd have answer for me. They also seek your best interest rather than see you as a money pit they can just grab in to - these guys are looking for lifelong customers. To give you some retrospect, I do know how to do the basic things with my car, but when it gets to inner workings I consult a professional. The first time I came, I suspected something with my bearings were off due to the loud noises and "research" online. It wasn't cheap, but I would say it was very fair. I also got the run-down on what was wrong/how it was fixed and a lot of things which would make this review way too long. The second time was just an inspection due to loud clanking noises I was hearing. The car was brought in and the inspection fee was paid, but the repair was relatively easy (think loose nut), therefore they only charged me for the inspection fee and even explained to me how I could fix it myself - talk about honest!
