We finally got to try this place, every time we tried before we were to early. We are so glad we waited till lunch to grab something to eat today. We had the French dip, the Rueben and a patty melt. They were delicious. If you want a hot, fresh, filling meal this place is definitely a place to try. We got some pretty normal fare but the menu is full of local foods and some pretty interesting options. The prices were reasonable and they have a military discount. In fact the place is decorated in all kinds of military memorabilia. I could have spent two hours just looking at the walls. The staff was really friendly, the restaurant was clean and there are quite a few regulars and it seems the owner knows them all by name. This is definitely and obviously a place the locals congregate and for good reason. We highly recommend eating here when in Slidell. read more

So we was on our way through town and seen a few reviews but mostly everything else was closed so we stopped. Not much Cajun food but amazing southern food. Party of 5 and we had open faced roast beef, fish, shrimp, hamburger steak, and a po boy! Huge portions and amazing homemade food. Recommend highly!!! read more

I love the atmosphere here! I mostly come here to get the grilled shrimp spinach salad which is awesome! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu....it's all good! read more

Great local favorites. Po boys, seafood, great burgers and the muffalotta is great. Business owned by long time Slidell residents who previously owned Tastee Donuts. This restaurant was rebuilt after Katrina then again after a fire and is a thriving part of the community because of it's amazing food and service. A must stop in Slidell. read more

Quick take out available even on a busy Friday night. Ordered the 1/2 lb yellow fin which turned out to be a bit fishy and not close to eight oz. I would say maybe 5oz. It didn't shrink from being cooked as it was rare. The grilled chicken was normal size, simple and not greasy at all. Steamed veggies were good. Finally found some French onion soup to go! It was really good. read more

Awesome food. Usually get a dinner, southern fried steak with two sides, usually gumbo and hush puppies. The dinners is A LOT of food do come with an appetite. Been here about 10 times and the food is always good and price is very reasonable. They have the 15% off on yelp s lot read more

This is, by far, the BEST spot in town! EVERYTHING on the menu is superb! There is a distinct and delicious taste to the foods on the menu! We always eat out and there is no comparison to Southside! The stuffed shrimp is wonderful! The seafood platter is plentiful! The patty melt makes one's mouth water! The club sandwich is like no other! The hot sausage poboy is uniquely exquisite! There is CONSISTENCY in the food which always comes out hot to the table, like the flavorful gumbo! Hate telling y'all all the favorites because you might run there now to grab a bite to eat and there won't be any left for me and the family! Did we mention that there is CONSISTENCY in the service which is always good (Bobby, the friendly waiter, is the fam's favorite). If there is a wait, don't fret! It's totally worth it! Oh wait...can't forget about the fried mushrooms and string fries!! Can you tell that we eat here often?! Lol We eat here at least weekly and there are regulars who do the same. Ya just gotta try everything on the menu and experience Southside for yourself!! read more

We were introduced to Southside by my former Commanding Officer. Now, whenever we're in the area around dinner or lunch time, it's our mainstay stop. read more

Not a bad place at all. Definitely not quiet if that is what you are looking for. The food is a bit overpriced in my opinion, but pretty good quality overall. Would recommend this place. read more

Busy and noisy place. The food is average and service is good. It is very busy around noon.

Went with family who have eaten here before, and it was my first time. Awesome first experience here. Ordered onion strings (that sauce is awesome). The bacon bloody mary is one of the tastiest I've ever had. Then we got the seafood platter for two. THOSE OYSTERS-- melt-in-your mouth goodness. Bonnie was our server and she was awesome-- genuinely nice and very hard working. Will be back! read more

Great service and food. This will be a regular spot from now on when I'm working down here.

Definitely a great place to eat. My favorite is the French onion soup!

The food is average, the service is always terrible and yet we always come back... for almost 20 years now. Maybe it's the atmosphere?

This is my favorite restaurant in Slidell. Love the American pride inside this place. I had the grilled tuna. Cooked perfectly. read more

Going to the Cajun encounters nearby? Stop here for lunch/dinner most definitely! True diner style food with Cajun options. Huge portions. Price is right. Excellent service. Great for families. Big bar area too. read more

Went here for the first time today after seeing great reviews and was not disappointed! Service was fast and correct despite all of our special orders. Our 4 year old was given crayons and a color sheet. The atmosphere was very laid back and although boisterous was very pleasant and homie :). Will definitely go here again! (Sweet potato fries and the sweet tea are great) read more

Good food , very Typical Southern Food, Booths or very confiding , if you or a plus size , you will want a table, but tables and seating is very cramped .They have alot of events so it is a very social atmosphere, But I have to say, I felt that the staff was more friendly with there regulars then people they did not know ... read more

After spending the last year going back and forth to Slidell from the New Orleans area, my husband and I finally had the opportunity to eat at this Slidell local favorite restaurant. After a short wait, we decided to eat at the bar. I normally don't like to sit at the bar because sometimes service can be slow. However, the bar service was excellent. We also enjoyed the conversation with our neighbors. My husband got the steak special with side salad and baked potato. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the side salad - not the typical iceberg lettuce. The steak was cooked and seasoned appropriately. The potato was great too. I ordered the chicken friend steak. It's one of my favorite cheat dishes. Raised in Texas, and now living in New Orleans, I don't see it on LA menus very often. It too was well seasoned. The mashed potatoes were creamy delicious. The steamed vegetables came in a healthy portion. We will definitely be back should time allow. I would recommend getting on the waitlist virtually through the Yelp app. read more

This place is always top notch ! The food is excellent, the service is great and atmosphere is vibrant .

Stuffed artichoke was too dry. Service was awesome. Kudos to Ryan. Will NOT go back at lunch time because place was UNBELIEVABLY NOISY. So we couldn't even talk to others in our party !! If you do something about the acoustics I will be back IF NOT I WON'T RETURN read more

Southside Cafe - American Near Me - Slidell, Louisiana

Mmmmmmm... muffletta is the best ever! Busy place, but they got us served pretty fast!

This is a great place to stop off the beaten path of I-10 for local Slidellians. But if you are looking for a good po'boy or a good lunch spot while passing through, you can't go wrong! Softshell Crab, Shrimp and Oysters are my favorites. read more

Yummy shrimp po boy sandwich. Horrible drinks... lemonade tasted bad, tried ordering the raspberry tea from the menu, they no longer served.

As advertised in other reviews, this place did not disappoint. Gumbo was great, stuffer shrimp, stuffed with crabmeat was fabulous, and the bread pudding is enough for 2 and yummy. read more

What a nice family place! Hubby and I had lunch here a couple of days ago: seafood gumbo for me and Irish Channel for him. Beer on tap for both of us, of course. Great service, tasty food, fun atmosphere, reasonable prices. What's not to like. We'll be back soon. read more

Shrimp po boy was nothing special. But ,I forget to order my shrimp fried well. My personal preference. Sweet Potato fries, good. Spinach/artichoke? ??dip? Great, but I can't recall seeing many if any chokes. The chips that go w are to die for!! OMG. SO GOOD,fried flour tortilla chips that they don't fry until totally hard. Purfect for this dip. Then I ordered a special frozen bushmills drink to take hm. Wowza, this was AWESOME,I think I got the xtra 151 on top. Amazing.( You have to like white Russian type drinks to enjoy this. )Be back soon read more

This is one of our go-to restaurants. Great comfort food! I wish the chicken wings were better, I order them every time I go, and they're sub-par every single time. Other than that, my wife and I enjoy this place and come back time and again. Great atmosphere, great beer selection, and waits aren't terribly long on Friday evening. read more

My family and I were told by a friend that Southside was one of the best restaurants in Slidell. He was right!! We were very pleased everything. Thank you Southside!!! read more

Multiple people recommended Southside to me and it didn't disappoint. I sat at the bar, service was excellent. I began with fried mushrooms and they were some of the best I've had. I live in New Orleans, so I have many options when it comes to eating out. But so very often my husband and I will wind up at Southside Cafe . Why? Let me tell you: Top Notch service; plenty of options; excellent food prepared the way you request it; servings that equal "I don't have to make lunch tomorrow"; ice cold beer; interesting cocktails; and prices you cannot beat. If you're visiting, stop here to eat. If you're just passing through, stop here to eat. If you're a local, well you already know... read more

The dinner food was excellent and the price point was also reasonable. However, the buffalo shrimp was a little soggy in the sauce, but delivered a good flavor (atomic). We only had to wait 10 minutes on Fathers Day Sunday and it was during the evening rush. The service was a different matter, it took forever for drink and food orders. Our drinks ran empty on more than one occasion. If we lived in the area, I'm sure we would be back to try it again. read more

We actually went there twice during our vacation. Both times we had excellent service and food. Definitely the place to stop in Slidell.
