Its always a pleasure to get away from the touristy areas and eat with the locals. The menu does not disappoint with plenty of tasty options. I had a blackened chicken poboy, a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo, and a side of hush-puppies, that I split with my wife who had the fried chicken poboy. What can be said other then its great food, and a great atmosphere? Im confident we will be back on our next trip to NOLA read more

Great place to come and have a meal. Friendly staff and a variety of different options to eat and drink.

My daughter had moved to Slidell and we decided to try this one based on reviews. First off we had trouble garnering anyone's attention to get menus and drinks. Bad sign and we likely should have stood up and walked out. We did not. It took forever to get our food and the order was not complete. It was not worth the trouble to get the items removed from the bill but we won't go back. There are some really good restaurants in Slidell-this is not one of them. read more

On of my favorite places to eat... Almost always packed, but once you're seated, the wait staff really hustles. (I can never resist ordering 'Killa Fries' as an appetizer, even though I know I won't be able to finish my lunch/dinner when it arrives!) My only complaint is the noise level - particularly when there's a game on the TV. The hardwood floors really bounce the sound around. (Jeesh... I'm complaining about the noise. Does that mean I'm getting old?) I highly recommend. You'll never leave Southside hungry. read more

I've been to Southside several times and have never been disappointed. They have great seafood and the chili cheese fries are awesome. I did get the turkey burger last time and wasn't impressed with it, but overall, it's a nice, casual place with a huge selection. read more

Have loved this place since the first night we moved here three years ago. Great place for family's to eat and socialize. We split one portion of chips/French fries as there is enough for two people. They always serve their draft beer in iced tankards so a great chilled beer all the way through. Can get very busy on Thursday night which I think is Bike night and again on Friday evening when the cafe is quite full, they use a booking system then and give out electronic pagers that buzz and flash when your table is ready read more

I had an awesome lunch here. I ordered the Reuben sandwich with fries. It was delicious and messy, as a good Reuben should be! I can't wait to go back to Slidell to dine here again. read more

Southsides has the friendliest staff around .... especially ...Lauren...Ashley and Alex at the bar !! Your always greeted with a smile . And their food is the best !! You can't go wrong at Southsides!!! read more

The food is pretty good here they have good apps and speciality drinks this seems like it would be a good place to hang out with friends at. There are a bunch of flat screen TV's by the bar. The service is a little lacking here also when I went it was very crowded. read more

Nice little american style cafe. Good food and very large portions. I came here with my family and everyone left satisfied and full. They seem to specialize in sandwiches and my brother had their seafood mufulatta which was a half portion seemed otherwise because of how big it was! Nice family spot. read more

Went on 12/28/14 with family. Would have given 5 stars but service was a little slow. Fox was great and I'll be back

Decent food, but nothing to write home about. Food seems pretty consistent. We had fried shrimp, seafood gumbo, club sandwich, and a hamburger. Seafood gumbo was tasty, but only had one oyster and two small shrimp in the cup. Most of the cup was rice, with about a quarter cup of actual gumbo. Onion rings with burger were good- thin and crispy. Shrimp reminded me of Jerrys 21 shrimp dinner, mostly breading, and small shrimp, but lots of them. Prices are middle of the road, and there are lots of selections. Kind of noisy inside, bar atmosphere. Service was average. Would eat here again, but not make a special trip. read more

This little gem of a restaurant is only a few miles off of Interstate 10 in Slidell, LA. Definitely worth the extra time to grab a delicious meal for lunch or dinner. FRESH seafood and home cooking. I had the shrimp poboy and corn & crawfish soup. The shrimp were cooked fresh, large and delicious. The soup was made from scratch, you could see the fresh ingredients. You can't go wrong with any food items on this menu along with the hometown feel as customers and staff all know each other. A must have for my next travels through Louisiana. read more

Brought the family there Friday night. It was very busy. Got a seat and waited on fast. Food is always good. I recommend this for lunch and dinner. Lot's of room. read more

Busy place with great New Orleans style food. Eat here often.

this is as good as it gets in the Dell. great apps (yellow fin tuna remoulade) & specialty drinks. fantastic sandwiches & have steak night a couple nights a week. ice cold abita beer on draft and even serve original barqs rutbeer in the bottle-- for da little ones! cool place to just hang, not too many joints left on da southsiiiiiiiide! read more

Stopped on our trip out if New Orleans, wasn't sure what to expect since it is a "cafe" but we were very surprised. Much more like a bar and grill then a cafe. Food was amazing, great atmsophere along with very large menu that is sure to please everyone. read more

Neat place with good ambience and Marine memorabilia. Great gumbo & poboys! Roast beef tender and yummy, albeit a little salty. Kids not crazy about the hot dog preparation (sliced lengthwise and grilled in half--buns were too). Sweet potato fries were good. Sweet tea was just right. Mac n cheese was kind of bland. read more

Great casual restaurant with great food. Great service too! Very pro military which as a Veteran, I appreciate. The place has great decorations representing the area & military. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is their meals don't come with a side. Just price it with a side since most people order it that way. Will definitely come again! read more

The pulled pork & coleslaw sandwich was AMAZING. So was the buffalo chicken sandwich. I would also suggest saving room for a dessert to share. We chose the fried French toast and it was to die for!! I would definitely eat here again and recommend it to anyone who is passing through or visiting Slidell. Prices weren't bad either and the service was excellent. Our server accidentally spilled some buffalo sauce on my new white sneakers and she ended up paying for our lunches! I was very impressed with that and I hope we reflex we that in our tip. Great place, great food, great staff. read more

I've been going to Southside Cafe since I was a kid growing up in Slidell. I used to ride my bike here to get French Fry poboys with brown gravy. Mmmm! Well since then they have had a fire and Hurricane Katrina, and I have to say, I think its better now than it ever was. The place was cool before and looks even better now. Its decorated in wall-to-wall US Marine memorabilia and its always made me feel a little patriotic. The food, much like the atmosphere, is casual, sttraightforward, American goodness. Last night I my wife and I sat at the bar. We started off with a few Abita Andygators and Spinach dip. I love that they have Andygator on tap. It's becoming more popular and is being served at more places than it used to, but I still think that when you go to a place that has it on tap you know your at a place that cares a little about beer selection. They also had Saint Arnold's on tap too. Another one of my favorites. The spinach dip came with some thick chips that appeared to be homemade and fresh. We also got a side of salsa and sour cream for around a dollar. For dinner we split half of a muffaletta. That and the spinach dip was plenty enough food and the sandwich was okay, but I feel like they could've gone a little heavier on the meat, cheese, and olive salad. All of their other portions are very generous and I was really surprised with the skimp on the sandwich fixins. The service was great and it was a great casual atmosphere. We'll be back soon. read more

The food is consistent, the staff is friendly and competent, great atmosphere with huge portions with just about everything you order. 100% would recommend. read more

Service was excellent! Portions were enough for 2 people. Crayfish balls were good. The seafood muffuletta was really good. Oysters were just right and a lot of them! Shrimp po' boy sandwich was just huge and delish ! The Rubin was well seasoned and heartily portioned. The ribeye sandwich was cooked to perfection. We all had a good time there. read more

One of the best places to eat in Slidell. We have never had a bad meal here. Service is always friendly, quick, & professional. Good selection of beers on tap. Nice place to sit at the bar and watch a game or have dinner with the family. We always recommend this place to friends and family traveling through the area because of the great food, menu options, and service. Every time there is a wait, we have always been seated before the estimated time. read more

The gumbo was delicious! I wish I had ordered a bowl rather than a cup. The seafood was so fresh. I tried a combination of oysters, shrimp and catfish and I couldn't have asked for better. Great drinks and friendly service. I would go out of my way to visit this family friendly resturant. read more

We pick up food to go at least every other Friday night from this restaurant for a group of 6 to 12 and the food is great and they offer something on the menu that will please everyone and the portions are more than generous. Some of the best suggestions are the 1.) Grilled Yellow Fin Tuna Salad as is made with an unexpected high level quality, fresh tuna, 2.) Fried fish platter (but be hungry) 3.) Reuben sandwhich, 4.) Big Mo Jama. 5) Shrimp and Oyster Po-Boys. Great atmosphere for all type of folks from singles at the bar to families with kids in dining room. If taking out and Ashley is handling your take out order, it will be 100% accurate whether it is one order or 15 orders. read more

This place has great seafood and all around great variety of food choices and drinks. The atmosphere is fun and you will not be let down by any means. The owner is a veteran and is always found in the restaurant and you just feel welcomed. read more

What local color and flavor! We usually order the Eggplant appetizer, which has 6-8 wedges served with marinara sauce, and sprinkled with fresh grated parmesan cheese. Made fresh, it's to die for. Their sandwiches are excellent, and will serve two. We especially like the Reuben, and the Pontchartrain Pig ( a BBQ sandwich that has coleslaw on it). Thursday and Sat . are steak night, where you get a very large steak, and a huge loaded baked potato, for $13.99. We usually split that along with the Eggplant, and we are stuffed. A favorite restaurant to be sure!! read more

One of my all time favorite places I go in the Dell. It's another one that I have been eating at since they opened when I was a kid. Owner is a retired Marine so first off, OOHRAH! Great sandwiches. Anything that is a fried chicken filet in between buns is huge. Cheese fries, Killa Dog, catfish, and burgers, are the way to go. Bike night is quite an attraction to behold. Good beer, good times. read more

Home cooking New Orleans style on the Northshore. Great food and great service. Biker nights are interesting too.

I've been eating and drinking here since 1998. Very fun place to go grab a beer and some appetizers. Highly recommended for weekend lunch and a perfect parade spot during Mardi Gras! read more

We just waited 10 minutes to get a table for two. Ordered our food and waited an hour for it to come out. It never did even after we talked to the manager. We will never go back. It doesn't matter how good the food is if you can't get it. read more

Ordered and food came out very fast. Exactly what we expected. Server was very friendly. Wish we lived closer, we would be here more often.

Onion rings!!!! Let me start off with the onion rings and dipping sauce, a to die for combination. The breading is awesome and full of flavor, the sauce is zippy and can't be described other than deliciousness. Had the chicken fried steak, and it was delicious. The only drawback was the was the what tasted like instant mashed potatoes, a buzz killer on what had been served up. On the other hand the second side I got was Mac n cheese and it was pretty okay. I was also sad that the server didn't know the history behind the decor of this USMC jewel. Simper fi!!! read more

Just ate lunch at Southside. Great shrimp poboys and fries. Sweet tea is superb. Restaurant is clean and inviting. I will return.

Good stuff Maynard! Met a friend here for lunch as he had heard good things about it. Enjoyed my paneed tuna steak and salad. Friendly helpful service. Definitely recommended. Nice outdoorsy sportsman atmosphere. read more

We finally got to try this place, every time we tried before we were to early. We are so glad we waited till lunch to grab something to eat today. We had the French dip, the Rueben and a patty melt. They were delicious. If you want a hot, fresh, filling meal this place is definitely a place to try. We got some pretty normal fare but the menu is full of local foods and some pretty interesting options. The prices were reasonable and they have a military discount. In fact the place is decorated in all kinds of military memorabilia. I could have spent two hours just looking at the walls. The staff was really friendly, the restaurant was clean and there are quite a few regulars and it seems the owner knows them all by name. This is definitely and obviously a place the locals congregate and for good reason. We highly recommend eating here when in Slidell. read more
