This is a great resturant especially if you are a veteran, patriot, family member, or love to watch sporting events. The atmosphere is decorated in Marine Corps Vietnam War artifacts. It serves alcohol beverages but is family friendly. It is managed well and the staff is excellent. Food selections are good. THE BEST DEAL (I THINK) IS EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT BECAUSE IT IS STEAK NIGHT (NICE SIZE RIBEYE OR SIRLOIN, STUFFED BAKED POTATO, FRESH GARDEN SALAD, AND TEXAS TOAST ALL FOR A NOMINAL PRICE.) read more

A group of six of us stopped here after leaving NOLA. We had heard about this place from my best friend's father who stops here every time he's in town. He said that the shrimp and gumbo was good. We all ordered and tried each others' food. First, let me start by saying that your eyes will always be bigger than your belly when you come here. They give you alot of food, definitely worth the money! Two had the shrimp and fish basket that came with fries and toast. The fish was average but the shrimp was awesome. Both the shrimp and fish were seasoned well. Two had the Big Mo Jamma (I think that's the name), it was a huge sandwich with ham, turkey, roast beef, swiss cheese, and roast beef gravy. Just as the name suggests it's big and enough for two sandwiches. One person had the club, which was good, you know your typical club sandwich. I had the Irish Channel Gumbo. It was a large bowl that had seafood gumbo on one side and chicken and sausage gumbo on the other. It was divided and separated by a channel of homemade potato salad. It was delicious but way too much food. The seafood gumbo had shrimps and oysters in it and was good. However, I preferred the chicken and sausage gumbo, it had more flavor. I liked the fact that the gumbo had chunks of veggies like okra and tomatoes that were recognizable. Some of the gumbo I tried previously in NOLA had questionable ingredients. The atmosphere reminds me of a restaurant you'd find on the beach. It was very clean and inviting, kinda has a tropical vibe. Overall, I will definitely come back next time I'm passing through and try more of the menu items. It was great food! read more

Fan-freaking-tastic. My friends and I celebrated our dirty thirty birthdays in NOLA. After taking an awesome swamp tour at nearby Cajun Encounters, we were famished. We asked Captain Troy for a restaurant recommendation for lunch. Before we could finish the question, he insisted we go to Southside Cafe. I was a little worried when we pulled up. The name is misleading, the exterior is forgettable, and the interior looks like a sports bar. Once we were seated, we were quickly blown away by great food and service. We split 2 appetizers: crawfish balls (drool) and some sort of artichoke dish (they called it a dip, but it had more of a bread pudding texture). I also had a cup of perfectly seasoned chicken/sausage gumbo and a HUGE po'boy full of fresh, large oysters. YUM. You can't get food like that here in DC. To top it off, we had a great server. She was attentive but not intrusive, our drinks were never empty, and she happily split our checks for us. Great job, Southside Cafe! Bottom line: this was the best meal we ate in Louisiana. This is also the best dining experience I've had in a loooong time. read more

We were passing through town at dinner time so we checked this place out based on the great reviews. Perhaps it was an off night but I don't get the hype. Food was just ok. Shrimp were a bit rubbery and fishy. Fries were undercooked. The kitchen was a filthy disaster with food all over the floor. The bathrooms were gross. Service was slow but friendly. The ice tea was the standout - pretty good! read more

Went for lunch on a Sunday. Seated right away. Food was delicious. Highly recommended!

Yeah. That was good. Seriously good. The menu was huge. The choices were delicious. It was a great entry meal heading into the city for our Mardi Gras trip. I had a delicious shrimp poboy. The beer selection was great as well. I can't believe it was so good. Yum. It made me even consider moving to Slidell. read more

Great spot for dinner or lunch! I always order the french dip and usually an order of fried mushrooms, seriously some of the best shrooms I've put in my mouth.. they're pretty addicting. The place is always clean, and everyone is friendly. Food is prepared quickly. It's a nice spot. The only gripe I have is that it gets sooo loud sometimes like I can't hear myself or anyone else talk.. but seriously I don't mind at all considering how good the food is. read more

Food was excellent but the bread pudding was one of the best I've ever eaten! The atmosphere was super loud so you couldn't carry a conversation but would definitely eat there again! read more

Went to this restaurant after reading reviews and found that dinner was better than what I read! I had the yellowfin tuna steak with a loaded baked potato and a side salad. So good it'll make you want to slap your momma! read more

I swear they sprinkle their cheese fries with crack, nothing natural should be that good.

Ordered the crawfish balls as an appetizer. The remoulade sauce was plain and generic. The texture of the crawfish balls was pasty and didn't taste like they were cooked completely. Ordered the seafood combo for an entree. The oysters were under cooked. The fish and shrimp were mediocre at best. I know many people love this place but I would rather pay the New Orleans prices for better seafood. read more

I ordered a turkey burger from these guys and it was just "ok". Nothing to get hyped over. They charged me an additional $2 for fries that weren't seasoned or anything. They should take fries off their menu. The person who decided to create their recipe for turkey burgers should take a lesson from Champp's which is the best restaurant serving these kind of burgers in my opinion. The world is changing. People aren't eating just beef anymore. People are more health conscious. Please get with the program guys! read more

First time I've ever tried fried calamari and no other place has ever compared after. Went to this place a few years ago after my sister first moved to Slidell. The food was delicious, but the service was slow. We went around 1:30 and the place was deserted. I would still return because the food was delicious! read more

Hey - not too bad! Great location if you are heading to a swamp tour (or you just finished one). Just a basic restaurant, but my shrimp and oyster po'boy was pretty good and service was very quick and friendly. Lots of food on the plate - you probably won't leave hungry. I wouldn't go out of my way for this restaurant, but if you are in the area and need a meal, it works just fine! read more

Ate here a couple of days ago. Service was great. I had the French dip po boy, which was messy but fantastic.

Great local one-off eatery. We stopped in after a long day on the road. $2 Abita Ambers on Happy Hour really hit the spot. We also each did a bowl of soup, and added a grilled cheese for $1.99. Excellent service from Jessica. Lots of locals at nearby tables. Great experience. My only regret is not trying the daily special spaghetti and meatballs. Semper Fi! read more

My husband and I found this restaurant via Yelp. After we left our first visit (we just bought a house in the area) I told him I think we've found "our place." We have been 5 or so times in the month we've been in Slidell. They have a great happy hour and prices in general are cheap, especially for how delicious it is! We always sit at the bar and get good service and I always get the Ruben (it's awesome!). I love the atmosphere, food, service & prices! read more

We just moved to this area from our beloved CA (yay, what a change!) and we wanted to try a local restaurant rather than going to a restaurant chain. This place did not disappoint. I ordered grilled tuna sandwich with remoulade sauce was good...the fish was a little overdone since I ordered medium but still nice and tender. Next time, I have to order rare and see how it comes out. My husband's chicken melt came out almost perfect (big juicy chicken breast). They didn't have mac and cheese for my 3 year old girl but the server was helpful to suggest she can exchange rice as side to fried shrimp and it worked well. I had one drink..Southside lemonade...one of their original drinks and man...IT WAS SO GOOD! Crowded place but food still came quickly. read more

After hearing great things about this place, we finally decided to stop in. The service was great, food was delicious, and the atmospheres is nice! We will be coming back! read more

...during my roadtrip travels staying at the lovely Hampton Inn...I came across a local favorite of Slidell. The Southside cafe has great specialties and favorites of home style cooking. I ordered a hot dog for my daughter and loved that it came out grilled BBQ style! I ordered the southern fried steak...nice and crispy with a nice thick sauce. Definitely coming back the next time I am in town. read more

Was referred to here by our captain of Cajun Adventures and we enjoyed it very much. It felt like the south's version of a Chili's. Food was good and staff were all very friendly and accommodating to our party. even received 15% off for checking via yelp! read more

We stopped here on our way through town. The seafood gumbo was really good. They did not skimp on the portion sizes. My shrimp po-boy had enough shrimp for three sandwiches. The ribeye philly was outstanding. We are from cattle country and were skeptical of the quality of beef. We were wrong- it was delicious. read more

Found this on Yelp and the reviews of the Ribeye Sandwich were compelling. Decided to check it out... and the place did not disappoint. The steak sandwich served on French Bread was more delicious with every bite. Simple and delish- steak, lettuce, tomato (spared the mayo) and bread. Washed down with a couple of ice cold draft Abita ambers... great dinner. Wednesday is bike night which packs them in the parking lot. Good people watching and machine admiring. Oh did I mention 2 buck drafts (any) served in chilled mugs? Of course I didn't because your still reading this... read more

Not bad for sandwiches. I had the shrimp Po'boy, I thought it was pretty good and a decent portion. Prices were pretty good for the food you got. The person with me got a chicken parm sandwich which also looked pretty good and was a pretty good size. I would eat here again. read more

Always loved the roast beef poboy. They HAD the best until they changed it to thick slices. Much better thin sliced roast beef. Please go back to what you did best read more

Good food. Had the muffuletta sandwich. 1/2 is plenty for 1 person. While remoulade is quite good God prices and service. I'd visit again if I am in town read more

Stopped in after visiting the Stennis Space Center, after reading reviews on Yelp. There a lot of menu options to choose from, but we were not impressed overall. Service was very slow, and this was around 1:30. When we did get our food, my sandwich didn't come out - it had been dropped, so they remade it. It was great that they remade it, but I think they could have offered to comp a dessert or the ap we ordered, just for the wait time. read more

WE tried this place a couple months ago. It was okay. They brought my husband the wrong sandwich though. We weren't really that impressed. I got a seafood plate which was okay...nothing special. I did enjoy the eggplant sticks though. We probably won't be back. Too many other restaurants to try. read more

I like the shrimp poboy here. The service last time was very slow. My food sat in the warming table a long time before the waitress picked it up. read more

The food, atmosphere, and prices are all in the right ranges and comfort levels. The only concern I have had in the past is that the amount of seating for the popularity of the restaurant is not enough... Unfortunately, can't hold that against them for being so great. read more

Great food, great service, huge portions. The place itself is all about vets and remembering them all!

It's always solid food. Always very busy but I always get seated. Happy, friendly locals running it. Military and police friendly.

Nice atmosphere, friendly wait staff, Good mixture of drinks behind the bar. Platters are a bit over priced for the small portions, but the poor boys are enormous. Love the Bayou Cajun atmosphere with memorabilia from the Marine Corp. if your looking to kick back and relax This is the place to hang. read more

Just had a great lunch at this little local place. The hamburger steak is awesome and the staff were super nice and friendly. Will be back !!! Great place. Built for locals by a local. Bottom line is when I am in the area this is the only place I visit for dinner. The owner is in the dining room every night so he sees everything the happens. read more

We eat here on a regular basis and the best part is that their food quality is consistently good! I love their Chef Salad, it is huge and filling. Always fresh and always delicious! Their burgers are great also! If you have not been here to eat, it is a must! It can get loud on the weekends, but other than that we love eating here. read more

This is one of my new favorite places to go. Love going to places that are pro America and also pro military. If you are proud to be an American you will love this place. The food was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The gumbo was great both ways. Staff is friendly and joined in the joke when we were messing with one in our party. We try going back at least once a week. Hope to see you there. read more
