Great local spot. I was looking for a local sports bar and was glad to stumble on this place. Great crowd, the beer is ice cold, and beware - portions are large. I happen to be here during happy hour on a Tuesday. The fried eggplant was tasty. The seafood gumbo was excellent, and their signature Big Mo Jamma sandwich was delicious and unique. read more

Came upon this place by accident. Boy are we glad. The food is excellent. And the wait staff was very attentive. We will be back

I get the spinach salad with blackened chicken and italian vinegarette. Its AWESOME! I order it to-go and in 15 minutes im grubbin of scrumtralesant salad. Friendly staff, casual fun atmosphere. Great for lunch, dinner, watching the game, or just having a drink. read more

Hubby likes the muffalatta sandwich, which is ginormous and worth every penny. Soups of the day are also delish, which we order with the sandwich at times. The environment is nice and great for our small family. Very family and military friendly. Food is good and reasonably priced! Very popular with the locals! read more

Southside cafe is good if you are looking for a casual dining atmosphere that also has a bar. It honestly feels more like a bar then a restaurant to me based on the number of people that go there just to hangout at the bar rather then eat. The food and service was great. I had the steak special on Thursday night which is a great deal, you get a 8oz steak, salad, and side for under $20. I normally judge the quality of the steak based on if I need steak sauce or not so I was plesantly surprised that this one was so good! They cooked it perfectly and it was full of flavor. I'd also recommend the fried crawfish tails. read more

I was surprised to find this place. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxing. Kind of like the tv show from years ago called "Cheers". Family friendly. The food that I tried was good and plentiful. I tried both the seafood gumbo and the poor mans gumbo (chicken and sausage), neither were above standard. I purchased a shrimp poboy and it was standard quality for NOLA. Better than most outside the gulf region. The seafood muffuletta was not really a muffuletta, it was a seafood sandwich. I just wanted shrimp and basically got a shrimp poboy on a round bun. It would be worth checking out further. But for a tourist, I would look further until someone can determine exactly what the draw is to the business. read more

Food was excellent, definitely one of my top picks when eating in Slidell. I enjoyed all the food i ate. Customer service is just as great as the food, i can not wait to come again. read more

The feel of this place was very welcoming! There is a ton of military memorabilia and is so great to see so many veterans dining under the same roof! The food selection is great, comes out fast even when busy, and their customer service is excellent. read more

Food was amazing!!!! We stumbled upon this after great yelp reviews and couldn't be happier! There was a slight wait so we reserved online and were seated upon arrival. The server was extremely kind and helpful. The food was amazing and all four of us agreed this was one of if not the best meal we ate on our vacation. read more

Always delicious, always great service, and great drinks. Been going here regularly since I was a kid, had my rehearsal dinner there, and plenty of brunch dates watching the saints game. Hands down the Rueben is my ultimate fav next to the Muffuletta!!! read more

Definitely my favorite place to eat in Slidell always packed that's about the only downside reasonably priced and every dish is awesome

Fun festive great place with a wide selection of great food. Owner is a former US Marine and has a lot of memorabilia in the place. The staff are efficient and friendly. The prices are reasonable. We have been there several times and will go MANY more. read more

Excellent example of Louisiana cuisine. We enjoyed the shrimp and oyster poboy with their homemade cocktail sauce. Everything was great, loved the casual family friendly atmosphere. Would gladly return if we are Ever back in the area. Service by Joe (and his recommendations) were spot on. read more

Ate at Southside many times, great burgers, salads, gumbo. Service is always good. Writing about a family birthday lunch on a Sunday at 1:00PM. We were 10 adults and 2 little kids, and the place was packed. We were seated within 20 minutes. We brought a cake that they placed in kitchen until we were ready. They treated my mother, the birthday lady, wonderfully. We ordered drinks, appetizers, soups, entrees and coffee. Everyone said their food was delicious: chicken melts, muffulettas, gumbo, shrimp po'boy, salmon salad, fried oysters, buffalo shrimp, and hamburgers. They lit candles, brought out cake, and led singing of Happy Birthday. Thanks Southside for making our family birthday celebration so much fun. Overall food, service, and prices are great. We love Southside Café, and recommend a visit if you haven't eaten there yet. read more

Kat 1.0 is amazing! Service with a smile! Gives great input on menu selections! Always checking on her customers! Ask for her!

Best bacon bloody Mary's I've ever tasted. We stopped there on vacation, and their food was so good we went back twice. Ruebens, chicken fried steak, and French onion soup. read more

This is a place to go several times . Food is always good . The Rubin is a go to depending on the specials

Hidden gem. Great service! Everyone was incredibly friendly and was always sure to check on us and ask how we are and chat us up a bit (we are come out of town and just driving by). Delicious food, would recommend to anyone nearby. They have very interesting wall decorations including a lot of war paraphernalia, machine guns, swords, torn flags, etc. I'm guessing that a lot of war veterans live there? But anyway, great place. If I'm ever driving by again I would for sure stop by just to experience this place again. read more

This is one of the times I really appreciate Yelp and the ability to get immediate directions to a restaurant. My wife and I were traveling from New Orleans to our home in Mobile near Slidell when we searched for a place for lunch. The highly rated Southside Cafe popped up. It looked like a great choice with the deep menu of great southern dishes and local seafood. Jackpot! We came into a crowded parking lot and ended up sitting at the bar. Ashley took care of us - great job!! My wife ordered the French Dip (shared an extra order of fries - so good) and I had the Irish Channel - chicken & sausage gumbo and seafood gumbo separated by a homemade potato salad. Everything was outstanding! Perfectly cooked with all the individual flavors showing through. Fantastic patriotic atmosphere with an extremely friendly clientele. We will back next time we are even close by. Will tell our friends and family. Terrific place! read more

I love their french onion soup!! Their soft shell crab is amazing also. Definitely one of our favorite spots in Slidell!

This was probably my second or third visit to this place. The crab stuffed mushrooms were really tasty and the blueberry cobbler was so good. The service was exceptional. A great little place to hangout with some really decent food. read more

Awesome place! Great atmosphere, and our server Sophia was very knowledgeable about the menu, on point and friendly. She let us know about the daily specials right away. That spinach dip was only $4 and off the hook! Fresh pita chips topped with fresh Parmesan. Build your own burger day! We will be back soon. read more

I've been many times and for some reason we always end up ordering the fried Calamari to start. Habit, or tradition, but it's always good and I always end up saying "no more fried food" but I can't help myself at Southside Cafe. Then because I order a fried appetizer I end up ordering a salad. But the salads are really very good, I love the Grilled Tuna salad. My husband orders the Reuben every time. It's the only place we have found with really good corned beef. There's always a good crowd here and it seems the staff all love their jobs since they are mostly all smiling faces! read more

Phenomenal experience. Had the hamburger and it was delicious. Definitely recommend if you're in the Slidell area!

Ok. Service poor. Gumbo tasted like dish soap-literally ( maybe cup wasnt rinsed well). Poboy was not prepared as ordered. Artichoke was good. Jazzy Pete's Po-Boy's are much better and more for price! read more

Using this the way it's meant. Three means A-OK. Good local food. There ya go. Sorry not to be more forthcoming, but there are a lot of these kinds of places around, and this is a little above the average. Party atmosphere, but family friendly, with drinks. read more

Bonfuca French Dip was not ribeye meat but roast beef. It was a great sandwich but as a profesional chef you cannot fool me and tell me it's ribeye steak and serve me your shredded roast beef. Stuffed mushrooms were not what I'm accustomed to as it was mostly filler and not a lot of crab?? What happened? Did the recipe change? I have had the stuffed mushrooms at least 17 times and have always been amazing, mind blowing and set the bar high as to what to expect from other places. Tonight? Not so much. Slow Saturday night. LSU smashed Southern Miss by 50 something points. Do not tell me I'm eating shredded ribeye and serve me roast beef. The sandwich was still awesome. The aujus was hot and had notes of red wine. The poboy bread was spot on. The Mac n cheese was just ok but lacked salt. Which we added no problem. Service was amazing. Young lady was attentive and concerned. Performed at a high level. Gumbo came before the appetizers though which we ordered about 10 minutes before entrees. The food was cooked perfectly but not exactly a steak. Bathrooms had no soap to wash my hands in the men's bathroom and toilet had pee all over it. Floors had nasty paper towels all over them. The pros: food was good but not overwhelming per the usual. The service was great. The stuffed mushrooms were still good even though we mostly got filler and little crab. Several crab shell bits that came down a bit rough. Service was great. The cons: food wasn't exceptional like usual. Mushrooms weren't perfectly cooked. The bathrooms were dirty. Saturday steak night is too expensive for a 12oz steak and potato. We can go to Texas Roadhouse for way less and way more. And most importantly as a chef that can see your common kitchen areas; the freakin floors were filthy and from where I was sitting you could see that the floors were trashed and nasty wrappers and and packaging were kicked under fryers and grill. Tell the day shift to stop being lazy and do their god dang side work and sweep n mop. Night shift has to even in the middle of a massive surge keep the place neat, clean and orderly..You have to pull a line sweep. You have to pull trash. But a select few of your kitchen employees were screwing around after the dinner rush at 9:00pm. Leaning on to go counter talking to their friends while a few good cooks kept grinding tickets and cleaning. I'm confused by Louisiana's work ethic for the most part. Should call it the Big Lazy instead of the Big Easy. Lazy employees are driving up your labor cost and inconsistent food preparation. Line sweep. If you got time to lean you got time to clean. They are paid by the hour and need to step it up. Middlendorfs just opened up and there are plenty of places serving great food with plenty of choices. I choose you forever but tonight seeing the place filthy and uncared for made me sick. I had to straighten out the pictures on the wall of marines who had lost their lives and were knocked around as if they didn't matter. They matter and that's why you put them on your wall. Do the marines a favor and put two screws on the pictures so they don't get disrespected or tossed around. The gardening around the building is slipping. Used to be well groomed and the high standard of your company. Now my handicapped wife can't even walk down the side of the building. Come on! Please fix this. Someone please hear me and what advice I'm giving. But do not ever give me debri and tell me it's shredded ribeye. The line cook took a short cut while his lazy coworkers leaned on the counter talking crap to their friends who apparently worked there. The guy they were hanging out with was in his pajamas but walked on the line, in the service station, behind bar. What in the heck happened to this place? Was not even close to the same just a few weeks ago. This is how yelp elite write! I'm not sorry. I'm upset that things were good but very bad. Lastly; no freakin hand soap in the men's restroom. Period!! Couldn't even wash my hands!! read more

If you want to try out a place where the locals go, come to Southside. We dine here regularly and are never disappointed. The menu has a great variety of items offered. Some of my favorites are the salads with tuna, shrimp, or oysters. Po-boys are great. Husband loves the Dan's favorite and the Ruben. They are happy to make adjustments in the preparation of your meal to meet your specific taste. Service is always great and friendly. I usually don't eat fried food, but my husband and I tried the large seafood platter for the first time last night and it was delicious. More than generous portions of catfish, shrimp, oysters, and softshell crab were on the platter. We took about half of the food home. Whether you live here or are just passing through, come give it a try. read more

Southside Cafe - I could not finish it, was great - American Near Me - Slidell, Louisiana

Had the seafood platter, definitely enough for two. Breading not very well seasoned, food did not impress. Not a great Selection on the kids menu. Waitress was friendly and service was fast. Not a great Louisiana experience. read more

After a couple google searches this place kept popping up so we decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed! The food and service amazing. Our waitress was so friendly and quick. She anticipated all of our needs and took great care of us. I got the lunch special which was pork-chop, smothered green beans and Mac n cheese. All of it was cooked to perfection and had plenty of flavor. I definitely recommend this place and look forward to coming back! read more

I decided not to go for Father's Day. I called to ask about their protocols for the corona virus. I was told they could only have 50% capacity and there was 4ft between the tables of different parties. Employees were not required to ware face mask, but you could ask your server to wear a face mask. There was no info on their website about protocols they had in place for the coronavirus, so I went by what I was told when I called. Their menu looks great and prices seem reasonable. I read some good reviews about their food and service. But no restaurant is worth risking my or my families health for. Too risky!! read more

Well, it's been years but I didn't forget this place. Had a coupla poboys, Gumbo, and the crawfish balls. All excellent.... Best place to stop in the area. Hope to be back sooner this time around. You never forget the good places to eat when you're a road dawg! read more

What an amazing experience. Social distancing was respected, while still providing excellent service and superb food quality. Our party of four enjoyed fried and stuffed mushrooms as appetizers. Two of us had grilled ahi tuna while the others had smothered hamburger steak. Every item was cooked to perfection. The four bean and turkey soup was one of my favorites in the past and didn't disappoint this time around. Welcome back, Southside's!!!! read more

Decent food, rowdy crowd, good service, neat atmosphere. I will go here to order comfort food, but sometimes it's salty and too buttery... and my palate is SEASONED! read more

I liked them when we first moved here, the ponchatrain pig was my favorite, calamari was okay, they had the Bushwacker drink, and no one else I could find around had it on the menu. However the last two times we went, everything was awful, the food, drinks and staff was awful too. I had friends from Texas that wanted to try some local food, and I felt horrible because it took them forever, they didn't even have enough of the ingredients for the Bushwacker and gave it to me, charged me for it too. If you're looking for a local bar for middle aged vets to drink and watch sports and eat fried bar food, check it out, otherwise I'd steer clear. read more
