Came here because we were staying in the area and Castnett was closed. Friendly service. Busy and lively atmosphere. Unfortunately the Po Boys (which they call Peaux Boys and I hate that for them) just didn't do it. Not enough seafood (there were like five shrimp on the shrimp side of my Po Boy), not the right kind of bread (I'm sorry but I need Leidenheimer). Also, I got mine all the way and there wasn't enough mayo. Sad. read more

Well, work has me in Slidell, Louisiana passing thru to Pensicola, Florida. As you know I always try local restaurants rather than a chain. Decided to try Southside Cafe due to it's location to my hotel and it's reviews. Decided to sit at the bar so I could get in and out quick and had the BEAUTIFUL bartender "Payge" as my server.First I tried the Blackened Yellowfin. It was outstanding. Next I ordered fried shrimp or what is know as Buffalo shrimp. I decided to go all in and try their own dipping/tossing sauce Called "Swamp Burner" Shrimp FRESH right off the boat. As far as the Swamp Burner sauce...it spicy but I'm hispanic from San Antonio, Texas. This sauce was mild in my opinion. All in all this place is outstanding. Great mom and pop or local restaurant. Definitely 5 stars and will stop by again if ever in the area again. read more

Really nice dinner. Sat at the bar and service was good. Had the New Orleans Muffaletta and fries. Muffuletta was outstanding and fries were crispy and good. Place was full on a Tuesday night so that tells you a lot about how good it is. Atmosphere is very nice. read more

I went to Southside with 26 of my friends. I love this place. My lady friend and I had Reuben sandwich's along with seafood gumbo. They were great. We all live in the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport Mississippi. We get to visit different places every month. This is our favorite restaurant go to. I need to start taking pictures of our meal, but I always forget until I finish. Everything my friends was great. The service is excellent. You can tell the owner was in the military by the pictures on the walls. Can't wait to go back! read more

Always busy, always delicious-- the food is fresh and well portioned for a good price. The onion rings are large and hand battered. The signature wing sauce is one of my favorites in Slidell. The roast beef poboy boasts thick slices of roast and not the thin deli style you experience many other places. Great local spot for lunch or dinner! read more

Stopped here for late lunch on a Sunday. It was a bit crowded but we didn't have to wait too long for a table. Our server was friendly and quick. We had the crawfish balls (with some banging homemade remoulade!) The 1/2 and 1/2 seafood po boy and the Big Mo Jamma po boy. The seafood was fresh and delicious and the Big Mo was amazing! Even better with that remoulade lol Kinda bummed fries are a la carte but otherwise a very solid experience! read more

Highly recommend. We are from out of state and wanted to try a local restaurant. Went here because of the reviews and they didn't disappoint! Great patio seating. No service on patio, you get the food to go and eat on the patio. Music is a bit loud on the patio- hard to have a conversation over the music.. Tuna melt, one scoop - the texture of the Texas toast, felt like it had been microwaved. It was chewy and tough The tuna used for the tuna salad was the cheap tuna, not albacore. If I had a restaurant, I would not serve, tuna salad made with cheap, low quality tuna. The tuna salad should be made with chunky white albacore. Potato salad was good. It could have used some red onion and celery for more texture and crunch. It did contain bacon and I'm not a fan of bacon in my potato salad. Huge menu so I wouldn't order the same meal again. As usual, the food was excellent. However, Christian is the worse server I've ever had at Southside. He screwed up my order and I had to track him down in the kitchen to correct it. Then he never once came by the table except to drop the bill and then disappear again for 20 mins. If we get him again as a server, we will ask to be put back in the queue. read more

First time visit. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate our 17 person group. They were able to seat us, all together, very quickly. Even on a busy Saturday night. We love eating at southside restaurant on Tuesdays. They have spaghetti and meatballs that ought to die for the meatballs are so tender.. my son gets the hamburger steak with the bake macaroni or cream potatoes with a vegetable of the day my ex-wife loves the club sandwich.
