The po' boy was packed with flavor, the gumbo was rich and authentic, the muffaletta hit all the right savory notes, and even the potato salad was delicious--clearly made with care, not just a side afterthought. Worth the drive off the hwy! We were headed to Nola for a concert and I found this spot on Yelp and decided it looked good enough to try! First of all this place was busy at 5 so you know the locals love it, but we were seated right away and greeted with drinks within minutes! Started with some beers and side salad, decent size portion but nothing fancy. The menu is very extensive, so there are lots of options which I love, we were already talking that we can't wait to come back and try something while we were eating our meal. Pork chops were perfectly cooked and tender, no dryness what so ever. The sweet potato fries were good but could have been cooked just a smidge longer. The Reuben was just what I was looking for, it was perfect, only downside that it doesn't come with a side. The drink menu looked long and had a lot of variety is well from beer, daiquiris, margs, martinis, etc Last note that I saw on menu, that they do offer a good happy hour, probably why it was already busy at 5! We were visiting from Oregon and my mom wanted some good southern food. This place is highly rated so we decided to check it out. We were starving so we decided to start with the appetizer of fried mushrooms. Then I ordered a club sandwich and my mom got the catfish with gumbo and hush puppies (doesn't get any more southern than that!). We decided to share the bread pudding with bourbon sauce for dessert. Food is always good and plentiful--you almost always will have a doggie bag/box to bring home. I generally try to refrain from the fried foods but they're pretty good too. While we are in Louisiana, we want to true southern cuisine. New Orleans, it was just packed. So much of a madhouse that we just couldn't find any place that worked for us. So on the way out of town, we stopped here. This business has awesome reviews, and none of them were wrong. We knew that we wanted to gumbo, and the Irish channel gumbo seems to be very odd, yet allowed us to try both types of gumbo. Despite how odd you think that it can be, and trust me, I've been there, it was delicious. Both gumbo's were amazing, and the Irish potato salad down the middle, equally delicious. As the gumbo was winding down, we mixed a little bit of that potato salad in with the gumbo and it was delicious. It sounds odd, but just trust me on this. Speaking of trust, we asked the waitress what she recommended. We explained a little bit of what we are after and without hesitation, she recommended the mufatta. She was not wrong. The sandwich was amazing. We got a half, and it was enormous. Shrimp, falling off of the sandwich. We couldn't believe what we were being served was a half a sandwich. It was delicious to the last bite, and I'll add the next bite was the next day as a snack, because we couldn't eat the whole thing and took it with us. Are the French onion soup was out of this world. It's probably something that's often overlooked due to the local Cajun specialties, but it really was delicious. The wait staff was friendly, and the ambience inside was like you would expect on the gulf coast or in the islands. When we stopped in at 4 o'clock this place was bumping, definitely a locals favorite. If you're in the area, you definitely want to try it. read more

Found this little gem in Slidell one Sunday. We were looking for a different place to try for Sunday dinner and this place did not disappoint. The parking lot was packed and so was the inside. Most of, if not all the TVs were on the Saints game. There is a huge bar in the middle of the restaurant that was fully to capacity. We walked in a joined the party. The menu is massive with almost anything you could think of, including the traditional and non traditional New Orleans dishes. I had the catfish that was fried to perfection, and my parents had the blacken catfish and chicken Parmesan. Each of our meals came with two sides. Our common side was the bowl of gumbo, yes a bowl, not a cup that was rich and flavorful. We also had the alligator balls and fried mushrooms as our staters that filled us up before our food came. Our waiter Christian was so nice, patient, attentive and welcoming. This will probably be our go to Sunday dinner spot! Well I was writing the review of our first visit as we were driving back to Southside, so I decided to add something on this one lol. We enjoyed our same starters we love, and had a pleasure of trying and enjoying the pork chops and half fried chicken. I had the single chop and my dad had the double. They were so juicy, flavorful and tender, a high quantity of pork. The chicken was fried to golden perfection, not greasy at all. This is a great stop! The waitress was amazing, the decor was on point, plenty of parking, and the food was great! She recommended the French Dip and it didn't disappoint! Son got the brisket burger (he's a burger guy) he said it rated a 9 out of 10. It was odd they didn't offer fries with the burger, but it was huge and we had plenty of food to eat. The French dip truly was my favorite. I did try the French onion soup and felt like it was over seasoned but not terrible. Looking forward to the apple cobbler and bread pudding for the hotel. I was disappointed with my food today. I had ordered the chicken Fried steak dinner. The chicken fried steak was so thin and hard. It reminded me of the chicken fried plates in elementary school.It was not worth the $20 dollars I paid for it. I asked if I could change it for something else and was told I could not. It went in the trash. My husband had a sandwich and some fries. He had a sweet tea and I had water. Our bill was $50, not counting the tip. I ended up going home and eating a sandwich. This was supposed to be a treat for us. Lesson learned. read more

This is my second time coming here and both times knocked my socks off!! The ambiance is very relaxed and they already had a wait by 530! The service really is wonderful! We had the crab stuffed mushrooms which were cheesy and delicious I almost licked the plate. Previously we had the fried mushrooms which were incredible as well. Both times I ordered the BLT because it was just that good. It is definitely the best BLT I have ever had. I ordered extra bacon because hey have a bacon stack that is highly impressive. Thick cut well cooked bacon!! So good. The sandwiches don't come with a side so I ordered the sweet potato fries which tasted great but they stick together and kinda annoying to pull apart. We finished with the bread pudding that even though we were stuffed, we finished every bite! Bragging rights here! I WILL be back!! read more
