On a last minute whim we traveled to Slidell and then Yelped for a restaurant. This one was very easy to find and had great reviews. As always, the reviews did not steer us wrong! We were warmly greeted and, luckily, seated at the last table available. (This spot is obviously a local's favorite and became quite busy before we finished our lunch). Our waitress, Nickole, was awesome! We ordered the fried mushrooms with remoulade sauce (fried wonderfully and the sauce has just enough heat to it!). Husband's French onion soup was very good but a few too many onions for his taste. He chose the muffuletta (1/2 order was HUGE). The olive salad was great albeit heavy on the oil. I ordered the Irish gumbo, two styles served with a wall of potato salad in between. I preferred the chicken & sausage gumbo over the seafood gumbo. But both were delicious and the potato salad was tasty. Really enjoyed our lunch here. read more

Brought a group of 22 people here while visiting the area for a local Habitat for Humanity build. Southside Cafe was super accommodating. The food was good. Service was great. I would definitely recommend. A nice local flair. Colorful and positive vibes all around. read more

The food is always great here! I ordered take out today and the softshell crabs were so small they should have been thrown back. Good thing it came with 2 sides or I would still be hungry. What a disappointment for the price. read more

Excellent! Food and great service. The seafood was seasoned and fresh. The smoked tuna was delicious also

I guess they figured since we ordered to go they could just reheat the fries and not give us fresh fries. Since they wouldn't have to face us eating the rubber fries. And no it wasn't because they sat in the box we live right around the corner. They were like chewy rubber. We even tipped a good amount because we believe in supporting restaurants during these times but we don't go in we order to go. Kind of messed up. Won't be going back. Thanks for bad dinner. Don't have a lot of extra money to be spending. Glad I wasted it here. read more

Great food, Great service. Great atmosphere. Veteran run business. Good menu selection.

One of my favorite places to go in slidell and a must when I have company come to town. The best muffelatta north of central! Haven't found a bad thing on the menu!! read more

The first night we were in town we ate here the food was amazing and service was great! We were a party of 7 and they got us right in. First time having tuna and it didnt disappoint! We came back on our last night in slidell and they were very busy we had to wait about 45 minutes to be seated no big deal... our server seemed to be overwhelmed, food was burnt and meals didnt come out at the same time so some of us were finished with our food before others even got their food.. but the manager was awesome came to apologize offered us free desserts and even took some items off our ticket. Great place to eat! read more

I'v been twice, and I'm just not getting why people love this place so much. It may be the ambience; I love the whole bar in the middle of the restaurant and maybe I would have been better served to sit there and eat. I have been completely underwhelmed with the food. I just don't get why people are raving about this food. It's mediocre at best. read more

Always great. Elevated bar food. Sandwiches and Burgers. Seafood and veteran owned. Don't miss it.

It was just Ok, we went for brunch with two kids, but they didn't have a kids menu The fried oysters, were good and they offered enormous portions, but overall it was underwhelming. It has a bar and a quieter back area, but it seemed as if the front room was attended by more staff. Slidell has very few breakfast places, that impress me. Even the higher end places, like Coplands, isn't worth it. Palmettos, though pricy, is really one of the best places to eat brunch or dinner, in Slidell. Sigh... read more

A great place, atmosphere, very friendly staff, get this including an amazing British waitress...

quick service, amazing food. will be returning to southside cafe they didnt dissapoint me at all

Love this place. Awesome food, great atmosphere, consistent. I have loved everything I have ever gotten there.

After a swamp boat tour, the husband and I wanted a nearby, non-fancy lunch. The husband got some wings and the gumbo, and I got a French dip sandwich and onion strings. Everything was hot and fresh, and perfectly represented what it was listed as on the menu. Service was decent, though it dropped off a bit towards the end of the meal when more tables were seated around us. My only real issue is that, when I showed the Yelp coupon on my phone to the server, she actually TOOK my phone with the check to ring it up. I don't know about you, but relinquishing my phone to a stranger felt...wrong. Surely there's a better way to handle these coupons. However, this was a pleasant, serviceable lunch stop, and I would return here again. read more

The hot wings was really good an the house salad with homemade ranch .. we didn't like the gumbo or chicken fried steak .. very tasteless

Food is excellent for a hole in the wall but people need to be aware of any sandwich ordered with beef is 2$ more the server told us about the upcharge on rueben sandwich which we accepted but failed to let us know about the extra charge on big mo jamma other than that I'd come here again just need to let the public know about the price changes!! Being they said beef is high right now also something we weren't aware of. read more

I went with my girlfriend today for the first time. The food was fantastic. We split the spinach dip and the seafood platter. The portions are amazing! I love the WWII artifacts and memorials that adorn the walls. We will return and I would like to give a shout-out to Matt for his very friendly service. We felt very welcomed. read more

One of my favorite places to visit when I'm back home. Best roast beef po-boys around!

What can you say about Southside. Home. The food, the staff, the respect and humor that went into the military atmosphere. My family has eaten here for 20 years and will for another 20. Thanks for doing what you do. read more

Seated quickly and server was right along to get drink order. The menu is extensive and everything looked great. Settled on the muffuletta sandwich, which was incredible. Food came out in timely manner and server was attentive. read more

I love this place. I eat there whenever I am in Slidell. It is a combination of serious food, a professional wait staff, and a fun atmosphere. They actually have a wait list for lunch. You can join the list from the yelp app. I actually love to try different places but I won't doing so in Slidell. read more

Nickole is the best waitress!! Great drinks and food! Consistently busy, so go early!

Love this place, great food, can get a bit loud but that shows how much Slidell loves this place

Everything on the menu is very good and it's arguably the best value in Slidell and possibly the north shore. My personal favorite is the Pontchartrain pig. The onion rings are as good as Popeye's used to be. read more

Best restaurant In Slidell. Great food, great service, and awesome food. Also, perfect place to just hang out with friends.

You would think in Louisiana the best restaurants would be in New Orleans but I kid you not this here is a hidden gem that more people ought to come try! The gumbo here is amazing! The fried mushrooms is the bomb! And I don't know what they put in this blue berry cobbler but man... it's so good it's to die for! And not to mention we had Sophia as our waitress she is the bomb digity she is helpful and very kind! Thanks again Sophia! read more

I had the seafood Gumbo and Hamburger Steak with Mac N Cheese. Everything was great but the Mac N Cheese was by far the best! Great staff! Will definitely be back on our next trip that way! read more

Service here was excellent! We were told of a wait but were seated before the estimated time. Text message notifications were sent when our table was ready. First time here. The place was filled and the food was great. We had the steak and seafood platter. The cocktail & tartar sauce was really great; you can tell that it was made there. Atmosphere lively and casual. They also had a wide variety of local beer. Great job staff ! Overall, would go again. read more

Went out of the way on a road trip to try this place mainly for the stuffed artichoke (a rare commodity to see something like this in the south). I however was dissapointed with the Artichoke due to it not being cooked long enough. It was very chewy and not edible. Also ordered the crawfish balls which were decent and the roast beef melt which was also ok. The real winner was the stuffed mushrooms. They were delicious and yuge! The girl working the to go counter was also very friendly so customer service here was a plus. I can appreciate the character and charm of this place... just needs better execution in the kitchen. read more

Good food beer always cold bartenders and waitstaff are really good and the Big MoJamma is the bomb my go to place. Big Mo Jamma

The food is always great. The service was slow this time but normally is really good. The best restaurant in Slidell in my opinion.

I only gave it 4 stars because I don't normally give out 5 and I couldn't figure out a way to give it 4 and a half. Lots of tasty beers and the food seems to be amazing. I only say "seems to be" because I only had the Rueben. Everything else looks great. But I only actually know that the Rueben was amazing because I ate it. It might be a bit "loud" or whatever. But that's only because it's full of newbies like myself and regulars, being friendly, chatting and getting to know each other. I met a regular, we'll call him "Rick." Awesome guy, had great menu suggestions, we talked each others' ears off and basically he made it fun and comfortable for a lone traveler just looking for a bite and a beer. Thanks again "Rick." read more

We stopped on our way back from NOLA, and we were pleased! Our favorite was the French onion soup. So good!

Love Southside! Food is great and so is atmosphere! Prefer the bar seating to tables. Servers at tables deliver the food and ya never see them again. Burgers are great and fried mushrooms, Irish channel and Peacemaker sandwich! Awesome ahi too. read more
