Food was really good. Service was great! Melissa is a Rockstar and they are lucky to have her!

Great local hangout! The place is usually filled with lots of friendly people and staff. The food is great and the beer are cold. Great place to have a beer and unwind after a long day. read more

Great food and service. But kind of loud. The fried seafood is off the chain and the onion strings are top shelf.

Good food, good prices and good service love the chicken fried steak and their mac 'n cheese. Will be visiting again read more

This is definitely a 5 star review. I knew it was legit when I found the parking lot overflowing and people parked on the grass for lunch. I had the daily special, which was spaghetti with a two huge meatballs. They were well seasoned and had a flavor that tasted like quality meat and not just breadcrumbs! The service was great, prompt and friendly. It's definitely worth the detour off I-10 or I-12! read more

First of all, the current rating, at 4.5 stars doesn't reflect our experience tonight. For a simple soup and sandwich, the quality of food provided only deserves a single star. The French onion soup had a super salty canned flavor and was also lukewarm. The same was true for a roast beef sandwich. Hopefully the restaurant will pay attention to food temperature and quality for us to to return or recommend. read more

They have very savory food. The muffuletta, chicken Parmesan, and the bread pudding is so good. My family is always satisfied with whatever they choose from the menu. Oh and the Bloody Mary is very good too. read more

We decided to stay outside of NOLA during our travels, and searched several menus before deciding on Southside. The Irish Channel Gumbo is what helped us make our decision. It was very good! I got half a shrimp muffuletta and couldn't even finish half of it! My husband got the seafood combo and was really impressed with the fried oysters and sweet potato fries. We also got Bread pudding to go. The restaurant was packed on a Friday night around 5:30, but we didn't have much of a wait. Our order was taken quickly, drinks were refilled before our glasses were empty, and our waiter was very attentive. So glad this is the place we chose to try while in Slidell! read more

The food earns this place 3-4 stars easily. Ate dinner there tonight. This was my 3rd visit. It's a hometown, feel-good, comfort food type place w/unique decor (model planes, antique guns, Katrina flags, etc.). You can't go wrong with ANYTHING beefy - French Dip, loaded fries, RB poboy... it's delicious. I recommend the French Dip. Order a side of fries because you'll want more to dip into the Au Jus. Service is usually really great. It was maybe 3/5 stars last visit, but maybe they were short staffed... For a good meal, this is definitely worth the few minutes drive off of the common Slidell stops of Gause or Airport Road. Take the Old Spanish Trail or Fremaux exit - only 2-3 minutes off of those. Bring your beer drinkers - great options at the bar! read more

After living in Slidell for 20+ years I finally decided to eat at Southside Cafe. Not sure why I waited so long. Overall a fantastic place to dine in my opinion. Great look and atmosphere. There were many fantastic menu choices and my food and the service did not disappoint! Top notch! Very happy with this part of my visit!! My only let down was shear negligence of the COVID protocols of wearing masks and social distancing. Very very rarely did I see ANY employee with a mask. This includes hostesses, cooks, servers and bartenders. Social distancing seems to be an afterthought as well. ESPECIALLY at and around the bar area. They do advertise all these precautions are being taken, yet in my observations, they are not. I definitely will be back but only after this COVID crap is over. This would have been a 5 star review if COVID was not a consideration. read more

Ordered takeaway from Southside and was very disappointed. Ordered a burger medium and it was raw. Mac n cheese for my child, the cheese was unincorporated. Fries were soggy not crispy, and the chicken tenders weren't crispy either. Very overpriced for the quality. Ate there inside before Covid and things were much better. read more

Great American Lunches and Dinners. The alarm Sandwich is an experience your mouth needs to have! Most of the servers and great as well.

You MUST try the brisket burger!! That being said, there is nothing on the menu that isn't amazing!! Consistently great food and great service! read more

Best food in the area with a great, friendly atmosphere. We've eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. Favorite of mine is Seafood plater and seafood gumbo. The best! read more

I absolutely adore this place. I've done take out as well as dine in & have always had a great experience. Each time, the food is consistently amazing and the service is top notch. Everything I have ordered has been terrific. This is my go to place as they have a great variety. I recommend their gumbo, all of their soups, hamburger, killa fries, muffaletta, po boys, and crawfish balls. read more

We stopped here on our way to Nevada from Florida. I hopped on yelp and the reviews for Southside Cafe were great so we pulled in. We decided to do take out because we have our Great Dane with us. There are 5 of us and we ordered the seafood gumbo, the Ruben, the corn beef po' boy the Buffalo chicken sandwich and the Pontchartrain pig. There was not a bad meal between them. They were all delicious but the seafood gumbo was definitely the star of the show. I wish I had taken pictures but when we opened the bag and smelled the food we couldn't wait to dive in. The service was top notch also. Super friendly staff. I would 100% stop here again. read more

been missing this kind of food. home (new orleans) for a quick visit...staying with family on the north shore. yelped for something and this came up. great reviews and parking lot full of cars: good sign. great family, down home ambiance - even better food...i had the seafood gumbo (well seasoned but no oysters as advertised), half shrimp and oyster poboy (bread was great but wasn't really stuffed with enough seafood - still good though) and onion strings (super crispy and seasoned). overall a good spot and would definitely recommend if you're on the north shore. read more

Food Is Very Good Eating In , Take out orders are 60% Good and 40% Not So Good, Ordered many times from online, and lately 1 out of 3 Not Good last was burnt seafood muffuletta bread inside, did not taste right 30$ sandwich. last was old well used grease fries seafood. another was bad taste cole slaw. As stated on other review, the take out area is unreal be ready to move a lot it's like a bad intersection. Awful and there tip stuff on there portable cash out box is unreal is takes a bit to get out of 22% tip. Really they should tip me for coming across town and getting this burnt muffuletta. read more

Great in every aspect!! We love this place!! Good food good service and great atmosphere.

Nice atmosphere the food is ok . And the service was excellent. The staff is very kind .

This place is really good. There is nothing bad on the menu. I've tried a few thing, one that sticks out to me is the salads. I have tried the chef and muffaletta salad and let me tell you it is a lot! Very generous proportions. Only bad thing for me it's so far away but it is well worth the drive. Just tried the french onion soup the other night and it was delicious. The boat drink is always good if you are in need of a drink. But you have to go a few times to try everything. I've been going since 2013 and I have yet to try everything I want. But go, you will not be disappointed. read more

Ask and you shall receive! Our waiter MATT, came over to our table, an I asked him "Can we just SKIP the ordering and go right to the eating?" He chuckled something like "That WOULD be nice". A few moments later, the manager MIKE placed a sample of split pea soup in front of me, and mentioned that he overheard me, and that he would be bringing more samples for me to try.....and that he did! Ribeye vegetable soup, baked potato soup, and after eating what I ordered, he came back with an ice cream dessert! The french dip sandwich sandwich with pepper jack cheese was awesome, but this restaurant's treatment of me made my visit an experience of a lifetime! Thank you Matt our waiter, MIKE the manager and Southside Cafe'! read more

The Seafood Gumbo had no seafood. One oyster,no shrimp. My sister had two shrimp and shared one with me.My friend had 3 Shrimp and no oyster.Should have been called Okra Gumbo. We should have sent the so called Seafood Gumbo back but we didn't and we didn't eat it all.The crayfish balls were delicious and so was the crabmeat stuffed mushrooms. But come on Chris put the 5 shrimp in the Gumbo. That I have been told is what the Gumbo should have.In the land of Seafood plentiful 5 shrimp is still a joke.Bill was $55.00 Server got a $30.00 tip. After she received her tip never seen her again. No more Shrimp and Oyster Gumbo for me.False advertisement. read more

The grilled salmon is wonderful! Our waitress was extremely polite and helpful. The restaurant was busy, a very good sign.

Southside is one of my favorite places to eat in Slidell. They have so much to choose from and all of it is good. They have steaks, poboys, burgers, fried seafood, muffalettas, chicken, and much more. The atmosphere is casual and so are the customers. The workers for the most part are all pleasant and care about their customers. This is one of the first places I would go if I wanted a good meal in Slidell. read more

We stopped in for a quick lunch on our way home with 8 kids and 10 adults coming home from a baseball tournament. Carley waited on us and absolutely CRUSHED it. Better service than I've had in 5 star restaurants. She got EVERYONES order correct across multiple checks and tables with no one going without full drink. The food, as always, was awesome and the environment never disappoints. Best Slidell restaurant bar none. Thank Y'all! read more

I had a Ribeye Steak Sandwich on french bread, no mayo add creole mustard... This sandwich was soooooo good I didn't want to stop eating, despite being full. My left overs even tasted great the next day. The wait service there was average, nothing to write home abt. But that sandwich... Finger licking good!!! read more

Too loud and expensive. Not quality food. They have not changed their menu in years or even added specials-they are the same every week. The worst is the noise from the TV's and metal roof. read more

Stopped in for some Gumbo and was not disappointed. Great atmosphere and really good food.

American Pride pours throughout this restaurant!! The walls are decorated with photos and tributes to OUR military men and women. There are countless articles detailing the bravery and heroics that allow us the enjoy the lifestyles we do and eat at places like this. In addition to the tremendous tributes to OUR troops, Southside Cafe has a great story; one about overcoming adversity (educing the aftermath of Katrina, then a fire while restoring the damages caused by Katrina), this family owned business is supported by loyal, hard working employees and a devoted customer base. As an "outsider," it was fun to watch the playful interactions between staff and patrons. Of course, you see "regulars" in all businesses, but this type of playfulness and friendly banter was happening at every table. It was clear how much the employees valued each customer and it was great to see. I'll support a place like this every way I can! read more

My father and I ride motorcycles every Wednesday night. Coming from Kenner, we look for places at least 30 min away to ride to and grab some dinner. This week we decided to come here. On Wednesday nights they have a bike night. The lot is packed with bikes. it's a great time. We ride with 4-6 other people so we usually have a large group with us. They have plenty of space to accommodate large crowds the girls serving here are pretty friendly. I was with 5 men over the age of 50. The server kept calling me mam. I'm only 2- years old. It was nice of her and showed that she had manners. She probably thought I was a lot older since I was with so many older men. Or even that one of them was my husband and I was a "kitten". (young girls that like much older men). Anyways, we've come here a few times before and I never got around to writing a review, but it's a pretty fun place. The food is not bad but it's not spectacular either. Maybe I haven't found the right foods to eat yet, but I'll keep trying something different until I do. Regardless, I'll still come back. It's all about having a good time and making the best of it... Creating memories and spendin time with friends right? ! read more

SHRIMP AND OYSTER PO BOY! FRIED MUSHROOMS AND FRIED CALAMARI! I heart Southside!! After moving to SoCal almost 6 years ago, I've probably said "I miss Southside" at least one a month! (sigh) If you want some good Louisiana food, you've got to come here. Every time we visit home, we HAVE to eat at Southside. The service is super fast and super friendly. My hubby LOVES the gumbo - which is stockpiled with LOUISIANA Seafood. Louisiana Seafood makes all the difference! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! PS - I hear they have breakfast now...we'll have to try it out! read more

Have been 2 times. First time I had the buffalo wings and was loving them. 2nd time has the thinly sliced tuna and those were DRY I gave 3 stars cause the staff was friendly no matter how busy, yet the food was subpar! read more

Our first time here, we started off with soup. I ordered the cup of chicken and sausage gumbo that tasted delicious but a lot of rice. Hubby had the 3 bean turkey which he said was very good. Next I had the Big Mo Jamma sammie and it was delicious! The chicken looked shaved not sliced, but that was ok w/ me. Very soft bread, the roast beef was fantastic! We shared a side of fries that came out warm, not piping hot so they became colder fast. Also had the bacon bloody Mary that was pretty good, I had to add lots of tobasco. Hubby got a Reuben which looked and tasted great, he really enjoyed it. He had a regular bloody mary and said the flavor was there but both our drinks were on the weaker side. To end our meal, for dessert we shared a peach cobbler a la mode. It had good flavor although was mushy, I would not recommend it. The ice cream tasted like French vanilla and was the best part about it. Our waiter I think named Brian was nice, attentive and helpful. Overall great sandwiches and fries and we will come back whenever we're in town. read more

Went here for lunch on Saturday. From New Orleans driving through. Had a 15% deal with our yelp app. Couldn't pass it by. It was loud and busy but we were sat very quickly. We started with Killa Fries. Entrées were Chicken Wings, Honey Island Chicken Sandwich, Big Mo Jamma Sandwich, and mac and cheese. And last but not least Dessert, Pops Fried French Toast. All of the food was great. A little sad that the sandwiches don't come with a side of fries. The "French Toast" is def not french toast. It was so good. Love the whiskey sauce! Only reason they dont get 5 stars is because of the waitress. She seemed lost and didn't keep up with us. She however did bring anything we asked, once asked for. Better training would make this a 5 star review. read more

Great food and local flavor. Nice casual place to go for lunch or to see friends and socialize. Family friendly.

We went for lunch and it was pretty busy but we were seated right away. They had a pretty extensive menu and everything sounded so good. We wanted to eat healthy and got the salmon salad and the strawberry spinach salad with grilled shrimp. The salads were quite large but very tasty. They definitely had a great size for the protein and the salad dressings were awesome! read more
