Ordered takeaway from Southside and was very disappointed. Ordered a burger medium and it was raw. Mac n cheese for my child, the cheese was unincorporated. Fries were soggy not crispy, and the chicken tenders weren't crispy either. Very overpriced for the quality. Ate there inside before Covid and things were much better. read more

The French onion soup had a super salty canned flavor and was also lukewarm. The same was true for a roast beef sandwich. Two words. Sonic burger. Actually...probably would have preferred a Sonic burger over the brisket burger we ordered. Asked for it to be cooked medium. Came out well done. No flavor. Buffalo chicken sandwich was strange as the Buffalo sauce was made with a BBQ base. Very thick and no flavour. The chicken itself was also very dry as it was overcooked. We decided to stay outside of NOLA during our travels, and searched several menus before deciding on Southside. The Irish Channel Gumbo is what helped us make our decision. It was very good! I got half a shrimp muffuletta and couldn't even finish half of it! My husband got the seafood combo and was really impressed with the fried oysters and sweet potato fries. We also got Bread pudding to go. The restaurant was packed on a Friday night around 5:30, but we didn't have much of a wait. Our order was taken quickly, drinks were refilled before our glasses were empty, and our waiter was very attentive. So glad this is the place we chose to try while in Slidell! read more

We were in Slidell on a work trip looking for good places to eat. After reading the great reviews on this place we decided to give it a try. All of the food was so incredibly heavy. And the portions were beyond huge. It made me feel queasy after eating a small amount. I'm not super picky about this usually but the atmosphere and lighting is unpleasant as well. Something about the lighting hurts your eyes and head. And to top things off, when I got about halfway done with my drink, I realized there was an empty sweet n low packet floating in the cup. I didn't use a sweet n low. But on the plus side, our waitress was absolutely lovely and very attentive. The burgers looked like they could be ok but not worth finding out in my opinion. read more

The food earns this place 3-4 stars easily. Ate dinner there tonight. This was my 3rd visit. It's a hometown, feel-good, comfort food type place w/unique decor (model planes, antique guns, Katrina flags, etc.). You can't go wrong with ANYTHING beefy - French Dip, loaded fries, RB poboy... it's delicious. I recommend the French Dip. Order a side of fries because you'll want more to dip into the Au Jus. Service is usually really great. It was maybe 3/5 stars last visit, but maybe they were short staffed... For a good meal, this is definitely worth the few minutes drive off of the common Slidell stops of Gause or Airport Road. Take the Old Spanish Trail or Fremaux exit - only 2-3 minutes off of those. After living in Slidell for 20+ years I finally decided to eat at Southside Cafe. Not sure why I waited so long. Overall a fantastic place to dine in my opinion. Great look and atmosphere. There were many fantastic menu choices and my food and the service did not disappoint! Top notch! Very happy with this part of my visit!! My only let down was shear negligence of the COVID protocols of wearing masks and social distancing. Very very rarely did I see ANY employee with a mask. This includes hostesses, cooks, servers and bartenders. Social distancing seems to be an afterthought as well. ESPECIALLY at and around the bar area. They do advertise all these precautions are being taken, yet in my observations, they are not. I definitely will be back but only after this COVID crap is over. We stopped here on our way to Nevada from Florida. I hopped on yelp and the reviews for Southside Cafe were great so we pulled in. We decided to do take out because we have our Great Dane with us. There are 5 of us and we ordered the seafood gumbo, the Ruben, the corn beef po' boy the Buffalo chicken sandwich and the Pontchartrain pig. There was not a bad meal between them. They were all delicious but the seafood gumbo was definitely the star of the show. I wish I had taken pictures but when we opened the bag and smelled the food we couldn't wait to dive in.
