In addition to the tremendous tributes to OUR troops, Southside Cafe has a great story; one about overcoming adversity (educing the aftermath of Katrina, then a fire while restoring the damages caused by Katrina), this family owned business is supported by loyal, hard working employees and a devoted customer base. As an "outsider," it was fun to watch the playful interactions between staff and patrons. Of course, you see "regulars" in all businesses, but this type of playfulness and friendly banter was happening at every table. My father and I ride motorcycles every Wednesday night. Coming from Kenner, we look for places at least 30 min away to ride to and grab some dinner. This week we decided to come here. On Wednesday nights they have a bike night. The lot is packed with bikes. it's a great time. We ride with 4-6 other people so we usually have a large group with us. They have plenty of space to accommodate large crowds the girls serving here are pretty friendly. I was with 5 men over the age of 50. The server kept calling me mam. I'm only 2- years old. It was nice of her and showed that she had manners. She probably thought I was a lot older since I was with so many older men. Or even that one of them was my husband and I was a "kitten". (young girls that like much older men). Anyways, we've come here a few times before and I never got around to writing a review, but it's a pretty fun place. The food is not bad but it's not spectacular either. Maybe I haven't found the right foods to eat yet, but I'll keep trying something different until I do. Regardless, I'll still come back. (sigh) If you want some good Louisiana food, you've got to come here. Every time we visit home, we HAVE to eat at Southside. The service is super fast and super friendly. Went here for lunch on Saturday. From New Orleans driving through. Had a 15% deal with our yelp app. Couldn't pass it by. It was loud and busy but we were sat very quickly. We started with Killa Fries. Entrées were Chicken Wings, Honey Island Chicken Sandwich, Big Mo Jamma Sandwich, and mac and cheese. And last but not least Dessert, Pops Fried French Toast. All of the food was great. A little sad that the sandwiches don't come with a side of fries. The "French Toast" is def not french toast. It was so good. Love the whiskey sauce! Only reason they dont get 5 stars is because of the waitress. She seemed lost and didn't keep up with us. She however did bring anything we asked, once asked for. My family and I decided to come here after our swamp tour in Slidell, LA. We waited for about 15-20 minutes. However, the hostess was friendly and kept us informed of our table status. Once our table was ready, we were seated and greeted by our waiter Kai. Kai was super friendly and helped us a lot. The food we ordered were pretty tasty. We were lucky to come on a day they had $4 appetizers. The entrees were good..unfortunately they ran out of white gravy for the chicken fried steaks. One of the best Reuben's I have eaten anywhere in the country. We stopped in for lunch on our way home out of NOLA. The two bartenders were exceptionally nice and helpful. Asking around to some locals they recommended this spot. I normally do not do this but thought gotta live a little. I asked the server what she recommended. Straight away I got the answer no one who asked that question wants to get, "Tuna". Having worked in kitchens for many years I know it takes a bit of knowledge to nail the perfect tuna dish. So I hesitated as images of failed dishes had in the past run through my mind. But the words still came out, "I'll take the tuna blackened." WOW!!!!!! I would take that tuna dish over any steak I've had in the last 5 years. It was just that good! Then I couldn't help myself and ask the server what she recommended for desert since this lady was after my heart at this point. She said the bread pudding. Mind you, I landed in the NOLA area getting bread pudding at every spot we stopped. Even went to the highly suggested spot about a mile away, I was as you can put it bread pudded OUT but she got me this far and it would be disrespectful not to take her suggestion. BLOWN AWAY!!!!! Well, it's been a while since any food establishment has surprised me. I have to give this place their props! Everything was simply delicious. From the hostesses, to the waitress (Nicole), to the food. Straight phenomenal. Great Friday night festive atmosphere. We ordered the Southside Reuben and it was the best that I've had in a long while. We also ordered the hot roast beef "peaux" boy and it was one of the best. I even ordered takeout to have my husband and son try the food. I will definitely be back to try that delicious bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo with the 'tada salad! read more

MY family and I visited this restaurant for lunch. Let's start with service. Our waitress , Alisa, was rude and did not do basic things like put our order in. We ordered two items that we never received. She also never checked on us after receiving our food and never refilled our drinks. The food was okay. Nothing great but not nasty. The major problem we had was when I found a hair in my muffaletta sandwich( which happens ). A manager never came to apologize or anything. If it was just hair in the sandwich then I would have given more stars but the horrible service on top of the average food just was too much. I will not return to this restaurant and I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

We have been trying restaurants from yelp recommendations on our entire family road trip through the south, but this was the best one we've tried. The Irish gumbo was a delight, but the remoulade on anything was the real way to go.
