Sadly, my experience with Southern Painting has left me sitting in a house with mismatched paint, poor patching and $5000 less in the bank. My mother and I contracted with Zachary from Southern Painting to paint my 2200 SF home. Looking to save a little money, as I'm a single, working mom, I elected to have only the walls painted, leaving my existing white ceilings and trim untouched. Naturally, color matching and expertise around that issue was critical. I wanted to transition my home from a tan wall/white ceiling & trim to a clean white all-over look. Zachary recommended a white (Snowbound) that he claimed would easily work in all areas and would not cause a visual disconnect between my ceilings, doors and trim. My mother and I trusted his very clear statement that the color would work. Was a test wall painted? Yes. Did we approve the color based on that? Yes. Unfortunately, the test area was not a good representation of how the would look applied across the house, against doors and in less naturally-lit spaces. The recommended color is blue in undertone while the rest of my painted surfaces are yellow in undertone. If you understand undertones, which I now do, this is a big problem. Caveat emptor always applies and I know this as a consumer, but when you hire an "expert" painting service, ask the right questions about color matching and pay thousands of dollars, one does not expect to have the simplest issue of blue or yellow undertone in a white application be a problem. When my displeasure and concern over the very obvious color incongruence was shared with Zach, his offer to repaint my home at the same price was hardly a satisfactory response. I simply could not afford that option. I see now that a correct white color choice, for someone unable to paint ceiling and trim, would be to match the ceiling color (yellow undertone) and apply that across the walls. It would have created the desired white effect without the terrible color mismatch. I've learned this the hard way after one experience. I would have expected my expert painter, with years of experience, to be able to identify such a simple solution. To the contrary, I was assured multiple times there would be no issue or visual disconnect between my existing white and the white recommended. To add insult to injury, the patches made to my walls where photos hung prior to painting, are terrible. Overall a very poor experience and I cannot recommend Southern Painting or Zach based on the outcome of my home. It's taken me this long to write the review because I've been so depressed about the overall look of my home. I hope this review can spare someone else an outcome they just have to live with and that, if you do choose to go with Zach and Southern Painting, I would strongly recommend the additional expense of a decorator that understands color matching. read more

We had a residential project and came across Southern Painting's sign in the yard of someone in our neighborhood. They had the best discount at the time we hired them (after getting 3-4 other quotes), so we opted to hire them. Mark was our go-to contact for the North Austin area. We had the entire outside painted with a few repairs, stained shutters, painted all interior ceilings, trim, walls, and newly renovated areas. They worked with us and our timeline (waiting on other projects to finish or gutters to arrive, electrician to finish over several months, etc.) and were not demanding about receiving payment prior to job completion. We did have to call them back several times to clean up paint off floors and touch up areas, and they returned quickly and at no extra cost. Our home buying and renovating timeline/process was really stressful, but Mark and his crew were very dependable and professional. I would hire them again for future projects. read more

This company was recommended to myself and my mother. Robert welborn was our contact person. What a rude jack wagon he is. He came over and gave an estimate for inside and outside painting and promised to start the job this week while we were out of town. He missed the start date and when asked about it he was dismissive and rude. We cancelled the contract and robert sent a flippant and rude email. Very unprofessional and southern painting lost a fairly large job due to him. I imagine southern is a good company overall but Robert Welborn is not a good representation of they company. What a great (and easy) experience this was. I have wanted to update the look on my house since I bought it. It came with some seriously hideous blue trim that really "dated" the house. I contacted Jeff at Southern Painting and he came out and walked with me around the house to discuss my plans. There was some minor wood work that needed replacing and that was included in my quote. Jeff was great at answering all my questions (and I mean A LOT). He walked me through the color palette and helped me come up with some nice colors that would warm up my house and not "date" it so much. In the middle of the whole process, I had to push the schedule back due to a front door install that took longer than I expected. Jeff was great at accommodating my schedule. The crew came out on Monday to power wash and came back the next day to repair and paint (two coats). Great crew. Wilmer was the lead and he also patiently answered all my questions. The nice thing about this company was that they had painted my neighbor's home also and they also had a great experience. In fact, they even plan to have them come back for some interior work. I don't think you can get a better reference than that. I am extremely happy with the new look on my house. It has great curb appeal! read more

Southern Painting just completed our painting project today and they were awesome!!! We recently moved into a new home and had a "smaller" job of painting accent walls that were impossible to paint ourselves (due to size and height). Southern Painting, unlike any other paint contractors we contacted, were very quick to respond when we requested a quote. They didn't treat us like we were "smaller" customers whatsoever. Phil and his team were in constant contact with us, were able to complete the job ahead of the estimated timeframe, and charged a very reasonable rate which was the exact amount quoted for the work. We used Southern Painting after we had a water leak and had to replace all of our floors. The paint in our home was over ten years old and there was some damage to the sheetrock. Jeff was extremely knowledgeable about the paint itself, the process, and any repairs that we needed done. The crew showed up on time and worked nonstop. Excellent..............crew very careful with your home treating it like it is their own home... they use paper not plastic on the floors to protect the wall whereas in my past experience other painters use plastic which slip and expose the floors........crew very respectful; quality of work impeccable............. read more

Delighted with the job we received! They were careful to ask questions before we started. They gave me a quote right away. We collected three bids, one from an independent contractor, (who turned out to be the most expensive) one from another company (Who just kept making excuses for not doing what they said they would do), and one from Southern Painting. I was expecting to go with the other company, but we saw Southern Painting doing a house down the street, and figured we call- Boy am I glad we did. 1) They were $1,000 lower than the other bids. 2) They focused on our job, and we weren't a weekend adventure 3) They would start right away Well, tell you what, they were here right when they said they would be with no excuses. They power washed everything. Came back the next day, and began the repairs. At first I wasn't going to have them do the repairs, but their bid was so fair, and their quot guy made good suggestions that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. (No up selling) I was able to have it all done still for less than the others. They went above and beyond the repairs and caulking. By the end of the second day my wife and I began to suspect that these people were different. When the job was done, there were no extra charges or fees. They were on time, and boy were they neat. Each day they had everything cleaned up. The house looked better on day one, and just kept looking better. We tipped them just because we have never had a better experience from the trades. We had a wonderful experience with Zachary Joseph and Southern painting. I got a quote last year for painting the exterior of my home and they honored it in June! I got estimates from two different companies, and I really liked these guys from the beginning. The estimator walked around my house and noticed some damage, he talked to me about fixing some other things, and gave me two different quotes for a cheaper paint and a more expensive paint. I didn't feel like he was trying to push the more expensive paint either. A week later I found out that he left the company (on very good terms to start another company) and the new owner was very professional and made the transition seamless. The workers were here on time, cleaned up their tools and "mess" when they were done. Communication with the new owner was easy and quick. I would highly recommend them. read more
