We had been preparing for a couple of years to have our house painted. Based upon information gathered via informal conversations with friends and colleagues, we were expecting that a thorough, professional exterior paint job for our 2600 square feet home (plus 2 car garage) would likely yield a hefty price tag. So, we developed an informal prospectus based on this assumption. Sometime later, we happened upon a poster advertising That 1 Painter, a licensed and bonded enterprise based in the Treasure Valley. Their reviews were strongly favorable and more so noteworthy was that T1P had been voted Best of Idaho twice (among many other plaudits)! So, when we were ready we contacted them with the intention that they would provide us with our first estimate. We were visited by Ruth Brinton, a professional house painter and owner of T1P. She presented well with confidence and comprehension. She looked at many things that we would have likely overlooked. She made many observations and shared her thoughts with us. She also looked at the property and made recommendations regarding colors to not only enhance the house, but also to optimize the use of colors that would give balance and compliment to the property on the whole. The next day, we received the detailed estimate for the job. We were stunned to learn that T1P would do the job for well below our most auspicious estimates! All the information we had gathered convinced us that we did not have need to solicit another estimate. Within a month's time (from initial contact) our house was very nicely and professionally cleaned, prepped and painted. The crew performing the work were polite, friendly and professional. After 3 days the tape pulled away from the ceiling causing the crack to reappear. i tried contacting the company for the past 9 months but never received a returned call . I Also sent numerous emails to Alan but they were also ignored . Although the work failed after 3 days and it took 9 months to actually speak with someone I decided to take advantage of the 3 warranty . I was told the warranty only covers paint . They also accused my 15 year old house of settling and having unstable soil although 3 foundations companies disagree with their claim . Liked most of their work but I can't recommend them. Hired That1Painter to remove popcorn ceiling, paint my house and fix some drywall and the work was adequate, at best. I'm still removing paint and dust from the floors, light fixtures and ceiling fans. And I was ok with all that, until it came the time to wrap things up. I had to chase them and call them every day for about two weeks so they would re-install the air registers and light fixtures, this after the job was "completed". On top of that they broke one of the light fixtures and I had to chase them one extra week to get it replaced, however when it was replaced they broke the power line that feeds the light and now the fixture is useless, on top of that they were claiming that it was already broken which is a lie. While I understand things happen, the fact that the project manager tried to place blame on me for the broken fixture gave me pause. Take responsibility and be more professional. I'm disappointed in the work. The initial quote I felt was too high, but reserved the feelings until I witnessed the work, it was too pricey for poor quality. I do not recommend this company. I do have photos of the missed items, and the paint left on my brand new windows. I will send you photos so you have what was missed as a reference if needed so you can better inspect future projects. We were missing items that were on the original scope and some of the original agreed processes were not done, they never used primer on the wood as discussed- and they never washed the area. I'm also disappointed it took three trips to correct the mistakes with me having to point out the work missed. There was no compensation for the wasted time and poor quality work, they offered to pressure wash my driveway in an effort to make it right. read more

My daughter's home in East Austin was sorely in need of repainting, inside and out. The exterior paint was badly peeling and in need of serious prep work prior to new paint being applied. And the interior also needed some repairs as well. I found That 1 on another social media site and called to arrange an estimate. Rick met us at the house and was very thorough in explaining exactly what they would do to ensure we ended up with a quality job that would last for several years in the harsh Austin weather. I'm knowledgeable though to know that proper prep and high quality paint make all the difference in the outcome, and Rick inspired confidence in his recommendations. Shortly after meeting with Rick, we received a very detailed estimate, including the specific brand and type of paint to be used on each surface. After receiving other estimates (some higher and some lower), we hired That 1 and scheduled the work, which would take approximately one week. We were trying to juggle other workers for some remodel work as well, but our schedule was wildly disrupted due to the now famous Texas winter storm. That 1 project manager, Kea, was fantastic at rescheduling and communicating throughout the process. Alas, Jose (the painter) and his helper arrived as promised and were total pros! They spent 2-1/2 days on the prep work alone, including power washing and hand sanding the very aged wood, replacing some where needed. Rick and Jose both warned us in advance that it would not look perfectly smooth like all new siding, and we were fine with that. It's a vintage cottage after all. The end result exceeded our expectations. With new paint that's been properly prepped, it makes a world of difference! If you're looking for a quick, cheap company to spray on some inexpensive paint, these aren't your guys. We were very happy with the job that That 1 Painter did on the exterior painting of our entire house and the painting of a wrought iron fencing around our property. They included some repairs in their bid including repairing an attic vent and a few boards that had some previous damage. Both of these turned out to be more involved than they anticipated and they replaced the items rather than repairing them and did it within their original quote. Our house is mostly hardie plank siding and limestone. The siding needed a lot of caulking and they did a phenomenal job with making the walls look smooth and even. They completed the project on time and communicated exceptionally well. On the last day of fence painting we had weather come in and they came back and redid the area that they had completed to be sure that it was completed well. The communications from the Allan, Kea, and Juan was excellent from the bid process through the completion. We are very happy and are already planning to use them when we move to inside projects. read more

The That1Painter crew did not bring the appropriate materials to do the job, rushed the job and caused massive damage to all parts of my property. Horrible drywall texture work, drips absolutely everywhere, missed painting large swaths of walls, painted my windows shut, damaged doors, got paint over my brand new floors, I could go on and on. The entire crew is completely inept and was argumentative and demeaning along the way. After getting five quotes from various providers, we chose That 1 Painter for our house exterior and kitchen cabinet paint job, and we're glad we did! The team worked diligently in the heat to complete our project in five days (would have been four except they were a man down one day). Communication with the project manager and crew was good. There was a little confusion on paint selection that was quickly resolved. They were generous with caulking and repairs where needed. We had a section of rot that they creatively repaired and I think the repair looks better than if there wasn't an issue at all! We walked the house with the project manager, Michael, and there was very little to fix up at the end considering the amount of work needed. We're very happy with the results! Another tip: I did a free virtual color consultation with Sherwin Williams who did a great job taking my requests and considerations and turning out some expert recommendations. We hired That 1 Painter in January to paint our bedroom, bathroom and kitchen cabinets. They cost twice as much as other painters but we went with them because they seemed the most professional and offered a three year warranty. They did a perfectly fine job on the kitchen and bathroom. No complaints. The kitchen cabinets on the other hand were a complete nightmare. Despite the sales rep telling me that the doors would be removed for painting, the painters sprayed them while they were still hanging. I immediately contacted the project manager who assured me this was normal. I was still skeptical because I'm all my research on painting cabinets, I had never seen a professional *not* take them down. But we proceeded. After two days, the painter declared the job done but after he left we had a total disaster. Uneven color, clumpy paint, giant brushstrokes (when the doors should have been only sprayed). There were many spots of bare primer which tells me they did not do two coats as they should have. We had the project manager out and he assured me he would have his painter return and fix the problems. (He also shared how shocked he was that this happened because the painter was allegedly their best cabinet guy.) When he came back, the painter was clearly annoyed at having to return. He took things down and began a process of sanding lightly, re-spraying, and then having me approve it. He sanded over and over and painted over and over and there were still issues (nicks, drips, and brushstrokes). The project manager came out and told me it was "problems in the original stain" that were showing through. In hindsight, I should've told him it was most likely sloppy application of primer but I was eager for them to be out of my house. After two days of re-dos the doors were acceptable but still imperfect. (Out of fairness, not posting pictures of the bad bad job because they did ultimately make it better.) I decided to let good enough alone. Until we had spots where the paint was sticking and coming up where the doors touched the boxes. I called the company and true enough, they honored the warranty and came out and touched up the spots. We added door bumpers and they had no more sticking. I waited to review because I wanted to see how the paint held up. The answer? Not great. As I suspected after spraying and spraying and spraying, the paint had not cured properly. It doesn't pass the fingernail test anywhere. It looks okay from afar but as you can see in the attached photo is already starting to chip after less than six months. It looks okay from afar but pretty crummy up close. Absolutely *not* the quality of work I hoped for considering how much more they cost than their competitors. I do think they would likely honor the warranty and touch up the paint but frankly it's ridiculous that they would even need to (and I'm tired of dealing with them). They used high quality Benjamin Moore cabinet paint and it should not be chipping in non-touch areas after only a few months. I know enough about paint to know that the only real way to fix it it to strip down to the wood and do it again. I expect replacing the doors would be cheaper. So in summary, reasonably good customer service, seems to live up to warranty, decent wall painting, do not ever hire for cabinet painting. Probably one of the best experiences with any painter I have had,to say the least . Most of the time with other companies I have to constantly call the project manager and ask them to fix something or motivate the painters to do a better job but not with That 1 painter, BTW it's more than one guy LOL. They are extremely professional and productive from day to day they get the job done the rite way without wasting time. Every morning other than when it's pouring rain obviously they show up rite on time . Not once did I have to ask them to re paint or go over a spot they missed as they themselves made a point to make sure I was always happy with each area after it was finished they asked if they missed anything. I am genuinely surprised at the care these guys took maybe because I haven't had such professionalism in the service I received with painters in my past, even the ones with decent reviews from me previously . I hadn't had this level of care and don't want to ever go back like a spoiled kid . Other companies even the one's with good reviews from me had to be called back to fix minor issues I found like un even lines paint stains on carpeted areas I didn't see and so on . These guys on the other hand where excellent at staying tidy around their work site even at the fact it was out doors they made sure not to drip paint all over and kept trash to a minimum . This kind of detail and care is what brings me to want to use them and recommend them to all my friends . The paint that was used on my exterior was Sherwin Williams Super Paint which has a warranty on fading for I believe 5 or 10 years I have to check but still a great deal . That 1 Painter recommended this paint as it has a long life and with their own two year warranty on top of that is an excellent deal . .That 1 Painter company power washed all my molded porch and siding then let it completely dry before staining and painting my home and where nice enough to power wash my driveway and porches. I am thoroughly impressed and thankful to these guys for everything they did . I hate speaking so highly of people then having them disappoint another customer who trusted my review but I trust in all honesty that this company will always deliver . The only way I see someone having a bad experience is lack of patience know it all syndrome or pickiness beyond reason which unfortunately is sometimes the case . Other wise the prices are fair the work is neat and professional and the workers are easy going and polite . What more do you need other than to decide on paint color and a cold one to sip on while they make your house look refreshed and crisp . New paint inside or out can make a home feel brand new and remind you why you bought it in the first place. I needed my kitchen wall painted and bedroom ceiling touched up.  No big deal.  My first impression of this company was promising.  When reaching out, the response was quick and I had successfully scheduled an estimate with a painter with ease.  When they showed up, the guy was pleasant, concise and charming.  He mentioned that there was a threshold that the company typically needs to meet before moving forward with the appointment but that he would waive that for this job.   We settled on a price that seemed pretty high but this needed to be done so I agreed.  Twenty minutes before the appointment I get a call saying that the painter can't make it (they stated that the employee was in the hospital) and that we need to push it back a few hours.  I'm good with that, I took off work that day so it's okay.   Then a few hours go by and I get another call from the same person saying that they couldn't find any workers and they need to reschedule for the next day. That's weird.  I take off the next day from work and eventually the office of That 1 Painter reaches out and asks what paint I wanted to use. I already went though this.  Ugh.   I get a knock on my door and this adorable family hold their Android up that is currently running Google translate because they didn't speak any English. Luckily, my wife is fluent in Espanol so they can communicate with her.   The entire family is working to complete this job and they do decent work. I tip them and they go on their way.  Then I reach out to That 1 Painter once more and inform them that the job had been completed and that there were some tasks quoted that didn't need to be done.  Their customer service is unacceptable and they try to send someone to my house to talk to me (I'm an introvert and want to be done with this) and they are super uncooperative.  This was clearly a contacted job.  A bait and switch.   Maybe That 1 Painter should hire more people for times like these.  Completely unprofessional and very misleading. They did an absolutely great job! They were my front runner in the estimate process. Not only did they come off as the most experienced, but they also had the best price of all quotes I received. They even offered financing through a third-party vendor. They were very easy to work with on the scheduling and had great communication throughout the entire process. This was particularly important, given a delay due to the weather not cooperating. They were able to finish the job in about two days and asked lots of questions to make sure I got the results I expected. I researched That1Painter before I requested an estimate to fix interior wall "settlement" issues in a condo that I bought when it was built in 2018. 5 different rooms had minor paint cracks and 2 arches had recurring larger cracks that were never fixed properly by the builder under warranty. An estimator came out and looked at all the areas I needed fixed. We had a great discussion about what would be done and how. It all sounded good, so I approved the estimate. I hired That1Painter particularly for 3 reasons (all stated on their website as things they offer): 1) ability to match any texture, 2) cover and protect any surface in the area not being painted, 3) leave a clean job site. Not one of those things happened in my home. The crew that came did not even attempt to match the texture. When I said it wasn't right, I was told it would look fine when the paint dried. They did not cover and protect my belongings and I had a huge mess to clean up. Ever try to get mud spatter off your entertainment center and everything on it, including remotes and sound bar? It's rather tedious and I'm still working on it. (To be fair, there were a few things done right on the first attempt - they fixed a door that wouldn't close, and a few cracks in baseboards were repaired properly.) I asked the project manager to come out and look at all the bad texturing in 5 rooms and the mess that was made. I explained that I was pointing all this out because you don't know where someone needs to improve if you don't see the result of their work. We had a really good discussion which restored some of my trust, so I was very hopeful that things would turn around. ...Then, on attempt 2, the texturing got better but the paint didn't match at all - it was even Satin rather than Flat. Maybe that was a paint store mistake but it went completely unnoticed by the painters. For attempts 3 and 4 - they kept getting and using paint (Flat this time, at least) that did not match my walls. Long story there, but it seems they never took my "builder sample" paint can that we all knew matched my walls to the paint store. On the 5th attempt now with the correct paint (because I took my paint can to the paint store and solved that problem) - there were spots missed, a glob of paint on white trim, paint on my carpet, and dirt on walls that were not even involved in the project. Honestly, I really couldn't handle a 6th attempt, so I opted to get what I needed to resolve the remaining sloppy paint issues myself. These 5 attempts spanned 2 weeks for a "1 day" project. A few key missteps were made - 1) the crew assigned to my project clearly lacked experience with texturing, and 2) they didn't take my paint can to the paint store to get a match which became necessary as they used all my paint on the 1st attempt. Had either of these two missteps not been made - this would have been a 1 day project (still with a huge mess) rather than a "5 days over two weeks and still not done properly" project. I don't know if my project went so poorly because it was a relatively small repair project, or because this crew was new and not yet operating up to That1Painter standards. Regardless, my experience certainly doesn't square with what I saw on their website or read in their 5 star reviews though. read more

We hired That1Painter to paint the brick exterior of our home with Romabio Masonry Flat Paint. The before and after photos look amazing. The house is a complete change and at first glance looks great. The reason I would not recommend this business is that they over promise and under deliver. In our contract, the general manager specified that plants would be covered, any areas not being painted would be covered, everything would have two coats of paint, etc. I'm still finding drops of white paint around our property because the painters didn't cover things. They ruined 22 window screens because they didn't cover windows. I expressed concern a couple times about them needing to do a second coat and they brushed me off... I do appreciate that they came back and tried to remediate the problems of paint being dropped, but this shouldn't have happened in the first place and I don't think it would have if the project manager had actually been at my house once during the week and a half long project. Their marketing team was at my house more. They do offer a 2 year warranty which is nice, however, I've contacted them twice now to come back and paint an area that was missed and can't get anyone to respond. I just feel that they use rookie painters and charge a premium price. Overall, really bad communication and unfortunately I won't be recommending them to my neighbors. read more

I really hate having to write this. But I cannot stress enough how disappointing this service was. The estimator (Rick) came out and made all sorts of promises about how the job would go. They'll cover everything and work on our house like they'd work on their own. They'll do one room at a time and we won't even know they're there. Etc. Etc. Their estimate was not the cheapest we got. But I felt good after meeting the estimator that their work would be top notch. Oh man, it was NOT. The experience itself was miserable. They made huge messes -- and I'm not talking about just the paint. They left the entire house unlivable for over a week, covered in plastic with paint cans, buckets, and equipment laying all over the floors and counters and cabinets. They left food wrappers and drink bottles everywhere. They crapped in the toilets and left poop splatters all over the bowls. It was just an epic mess. We ended up leaving town for a couple of days to get away from it, and while we were gone, one of the guys tripped a circuit breaker to our freezer chest in the garage. I have video of him doing it from the security cameras. Rather than flip the breaker back, he just moved to a different socket. When we came home, we had hundreds of pounds of rancid meat, ice cream, and fruit all standing in about 12 inches of melted ice water. It took me four hours to clean it, and I puked in the process. The business office offered me a $200 discount on a $7,000 bill for my trouble. On top of all of that, the work itself was mediocre at very best. We had to have the team out three times to fix mistakes. And they still didn't fix them. We eventually just gave up and decided to live with the drips, bubbles, and smudges. They left the house covered in dust and dirt, and we had to pay a cleaning company over $200 -- more than the rancid food credit -- to clean up the painters' mess. Still waiting for someone to come out and do a walkthrough on a job completed several months ago from the Georgetown, Tx office. There are several touch ups that need to be done. I would highly suggest using another company. My estimator that came by to give me a quote failed to remember that I wanted the entrance to my home aka the (Foyer) painted and also included (Foyer) in my quote. However he said the Foyer to my living room was what was included in my quote, even after I was very admit at explaining to him that I was an experienced painter but could not do vaulted ceilings due to lack of equipment and that was the reason why I chose to have a painter come and do the work. In the end and even though he admitted that it was his fault and that he forgot.. I have no idea how you can forget when its the first thing I showed him when he entered the house? So needless to say, they would not paint it. I get it, we all make mistakes, so I said " okay, how can we make this right? I told him I was willing to pay for materials and the cost of the labor. ( I feel I'm being pretty cool about it and reasonable) He said, that sounds great, I don't need to make any money on that part of the job" I even bought the paint myself so the painter would have everything when he came back to my house on a Monday. The painter did a great job, and I knew he felt bad because of the mis-understanding, I also helped him paint and do some cutting so he could just focus on the area's that I could not get to. He as at my house for a total of maybe 2 hours. He said he's done and headed to another job. I asked him in a nice way what the damage was? He said don't worry its all good ! I said no and grabbed $100.00 in cash to give him for his help...Personally I would have paid more. The painter that came did good work. Here's the kicker, lone and behold I get a new emailed invoice and they billed me an additional $250.00 plus another gallon of paint for coming. I had to tell them that I paid the painter $100.00 in cash and they adjusted the bill so it was just another $150.00. Closing thoughts, I normally get multiple quotes, but I did not this time (That's on me) Lesson learned ! I paid a total of $2,400 to have my entrance foyer, kitchen and vaulted living room, painted. If you decide to use them despite this review. I would highly suggest that when you get the quote you have them return and go over the detailed scope of work. Had I'd done that, I'm 1000% sure I could have gotten the job done at a much better price ! The painters did do a great job, but boy did I pay for it !! That's why I posted two stars. read more

The guys went above and beyond moving my outside furniture and security cameras, and also putting them all back in their place when finished. I was very impressed! The paint looks fantastic! It was a little more expensive this way, but sometimes you pay for convenience. 4 stars for the pricing, but 5 stars for the product. Daniel and his crew were amazing! Daniel was hands on at all times making sure the project was going as planned and getting my input along the way to ensure that I was happy with the finished product. I really did not want to write this. I had their estimator come out and he was friendly, great person, and helpful. Scheduling this visit was easy and there was a quick response to come complete an in-home estimate. They promise written estimates within 24 hours which is not happening. The first estimate, and then the second for add-ons, took days and several reminders. I never received the second estimate. The communication is horrible, the follow-up not good at all. Was told a Project Manager would call me for the paint colors the next day after the 2nd estimate visit. I've texted, emailed and left a vm to the estimator and no response, and no updated estimate due yesterday morning. The person was really very nice, and this has nothing to do with him personally. I blame the company. I finally emailed them yesterday canceling the job since the person on the phone said she would and would send me an email immediately confirming the cancellation. Nada. I was told by the estimator that their estimates are not detailed which is concerning since they can charge you an additional $125-150/hr for anything above the job estimate that was done. Painting the exterior doors was not on the estimate. Therefore.....following my gut, I canceled the job. Response is key to a good business. I wanted a professional who would be able to provide a reasonable price and they were able to work with me and tailor towards what I needed. The painter did a very great job. It's quit sad when the so called owner of the company chooses to lie and fabricate a story attacking someone's character and drag their family into it versus owning up to the truth about poor employee time management and worse follow through. We just wish they would put half the effort and quick response time they have to managing their reviews as they do with handling new accounts and actually doing some work. read more
