My experience with DGP painters was extremely frustrating and disappointing. They prolonged this project significantly because they were not putting in the required time or manpower. They had 19 days to paint 4,000 square feet without interruption but could not get it done. In the end, it took 26 days and they caused me significant unnecessary stress, and left problems that I will have to pay someone else to fix. However, I would rather pay someone else than allow them back into my house. In fact, I believe that they lied by telling me multiple times that they were working towards making various deadlines, then making almost no effort to meet those deadlines and not acknowledging their passing. They consistently blamed whomever they could for their lack of progress, even when they had ample opportunities to complete their work without interruption from others. They did not take accountability at any point. When we have discussed delays, Stephen and Archie frequently cite interruption from the other contractors. Other than a mold remediator, whose work could not be paused due to safety issues, I did not allow the other contractors into the house until 19 days after the start of the project, which was far after both their initial and subsequent estimates for when they would be done. Similarly, I have repeatedly communicated to Archie and Stephen that I did not expect them to complete the work in the areas that have been quarantined by mold remediation before our move-in date. That means that I was expecting them to paint less of the house than we initially had talked about, which should have taken them less time. I also communicated with Stephen about when I have intended to have the other contractors start ahead of time. I have visited the job site nearly every day since before the start of the project, sometimes multiple times a day because it is close to my work. I have seen what areas have progressed and what areas have not. I have communicated with my contractors frequently. At no point has DGP taken responsibility for the delays. DGP has been incredibly frustrating to work with. I have tried to be patient and polite, but they have made that extremely challenging. I hope that sharing my experience can help others avoid DGP painters. High Quality Service with Sage Advice Our home had not been painted in too many years. Peeling paint, exposed wood, alligatoring, rotten wood...and then it was determined that lead abatement was needed. Archie, the owner, guided us through this process without any charges for his advice and ensuring the lead abatement company did the work properly. DGP made the painting process so easy - probably the best experience I've had with hiring someone to work on my house. Working with the office manager, Paul, made making appointments and payments fast and efficient. Working with Archie to get the estimate done and the work started was also great; he's knowledgable and honest about the amount of prep work that will need to be done. The written estimate was timely and very detailed so you know exactly what you're paying for. They started and finished when promised, stayed on budget, and ultimately did a great job. The painters were very nice (to both myself and my dog who barked at them all day) and took care to protect the surrounding areas and pay attention to the details of their work. The only thing that I didn't like was that they painted the black hinges of our gate, but really, the hinges could have been replaced anyway so that's what we did. DGP did offer to remove the paint for us but it was just easier to replace the hinges since they're not expensive. Just a lesson learned when getting the house painted! We loved the result of the exterior painting work and deck staining that DGP painting did for us! They were great to work with from the start. Very responsive, quick to get me a quote, and I did get several other competing bids, and they were able to beat the others. I worked with them to add things to the quote to make sure they were equivalent on things I wanted done, and they were quick to add the additional items. When I asked about the type of paint and deck staining, they clarified what they were using. I do have Brazilian hardwood on my deck, so I needed to direct them to use Australian timber oil (as they didn't know at first that it needed a special material), but it was no problem to get it switched with no additional cost quoted. They were able to schedule me right away and offered me a winter discount. They told me the job might take 6 days but it took 4.5. They started on a Monday and were done by Friday midday. Their warranty is lower than other companies and they require a 50% deposit upfront but they had very good insurance and they use 2 coats of paint included in the price that they quote. Other companies wanted to charge more for the second coat. They said they sometimes do 3 coats. I grilled them on what a second coat actually means: "do you let it dry between applying coats?" And the answer was while they do rotate around the house, they make sure it's dry to the touch before applying the second coat. This was good enough for me, and should not need to repaint my house now for 8-10+ years. Thanks for the good work on my home! read more

Very happy with them and would use them again. They painted interior of our 4000sf house and some of the exterior (front porch). This was at the time when our other contractor was remodeling our kitchen. The kitchen contractor, among other things, built the kitchen cabinets and had his painter paint the kitchen cabinets. This was a mistake - the kitchen cabinets paint job from the kitchen contractor was horrible. So we called DGP painting to fix this and repaint all kitchen cabinets which was much harder to do this time since the new paint had be be removed. But they did a great job, basically they fixed what the other painters messed up. The kitchen contractor agreed to cover the cost of re-painting (and this was a big loss for them). During the whole process (house interior and fixing the cabinet paint job) they were punctual, adhering to the schedule and they worked overtime. When we contacted DGP to see if they could do a caulk and grout removal job, we were told that our project didn't fit their monetary interest, meaning it wasn't a minimum of $1000 and casually dismissed us by telling us to go find a handyman instead because we were cheap. It was like a big slap in the face to be told our issue wasn't important enough because there wouldn't be piles of cash lining their pockets. If money grew on trees, everyone could afford their services. I hired DGP to paint the exterior of my house.It is an older house with wood siding and I knew there was a good bit of repair and prep needed to do it right. DGP was the only bid I received that showed a commitment to prep. It was not cheap, but it was worth it. The crew spent four days preparing the house. I had other contractors say the whole job would be done in three days, including painting! The effort really shows and it looks great even though we finally decided on a flat dark blue that would highlight any flaw. Is your wife looking awesome with her frizzy hair and all 80s sexy in her dress with shoulder pads? If so, stop the madness; before you even think about upgrading to granite countertops or getting those new window treatments, for god's sake scrape your ceilings! Cottage Cheese may be a delicious, low-fat diet-friendly snack, but it most absolutely positively does not belong on your house's ceiling. While you're busy ripping out the avocado green carpet and replacing those awful brass doorknobs with sexy brushed nickel, consider contracting Doug Gorton Professional Painting to help you with the worst and most arduous of home improvement tasks: Scraping popcorn ceilings and replacing them with knockdown or orange peel. The guys at Doug Gorton gave me a professional looking, itemized bid for my high-ceilinged living room and their friendly professionals did an awesome job on the room: * They taped and plastic sheeted the whole room and lined the floor with paper and plastic wrap for the scraping and painting jobs * They were on-time both days the job took * They used top quality (Sherwin Williams Brilliance) ceiling paint * The caulked the edges between the floor and ceiling for a professional look * They took down the light fixtures for the scraping job (in my case they didn't put them back up because I asked; I sent that mid-80s stuff straight to the garbage can) * They cleaned up the workspace very well. There is only one tiny way they could have improved, and that would have been to wrap the wires to the ceiling fan and chandelier so they weren't painted over. Nevertheless, they did cap them with wire nuts for safety. Folks, this is a messy, filthy job, and very very difficult to to exactly right. Expect there to be some dust leakage into the rest of the house, and you'll probably have to mop and dust more often for a week or two, but Doug Gorton made it as painless as it could have been. read more

After a chance encounter at the Lowe's paint aisle, we brought Doug's crew in to paint the ceilings and trim for us. It looks spectacular. It's like a brand new sparkling house! And the reviews that say these guys are fast, are spot on. The work was completed in probably 6 hours. Doug is professional and a super-friendly guy to deal with too. He will break everything down for you on a spreadsheet. Nothing is left up in the air. We'll be using his services again when we get in our 12 or so new doors. He can also rent us one of his painters by the hour to assist us in rolling on paint in the rest of the house . . . that is whenever we get around to choosing colors. Excellent Job! Call them first for a quote! I had Doug Gorton repaint the outside of my house, including my deck. This was a dramatic color change as well as various repairs to the wood trim around my windows. The quote process was with the owner and he did a phenomenal job explaining the process to me. He sent me a detailed quote itemizing everything they would do and the price. He also came out to set up samples when I was deciding on colors. The painting process involved two men who were very friendly and communicative. I always felt like I could request that things be fixed and they were very responsive. It took about a week to finish the job (which was a little long in my opinion) but the work was done superbly. I would strongly recommend calling DGPP to at least get a quote. The itemized list was extremely helpful in knowing what type of work needed to be done. We recently wrapped a 3 day exterior painting job with Doug Gorton Professional Painting. To say they exceeded my expectations would be an understatement. We obtained a few quotes from other painting companies. When I met Archie from DGP Painting, I immediately felt comfortable with him and the advice he gave me on repairing a few things on the exterior before painting. Yes, their quote was higher than other estimates, but based on the amount of work they were offering (repairing siding, replacing wood, patching the garage door) I felt the price was fair. Another painting company didn't offer any repair work, just paint. The project took a crew of 3, 3 days to complete. The guys they sent to our house were very professional, friendly, meticulous and prompt. Archie came by on the first day to walk through the project again with me to make sure noting had changed. We added one small thing at a nominal cost, but other than that, there were no hidden fees or additional charges as the project was complete. They even removed old house numbers and put up new ones for us. DGP Painting uses Sherwin Williams paint and the swatches they gave us were well curated and modern. The color we ended up picking looked even better than we expected. Every once in a while I would go outside to see the progress and when I would tell the painters how good it was looking, they would nod in agreement and say that the color was really fantastic. Our early 80s house looks brand new thanks to their work. At the end of the job, they even painted our mailbox to match the house, power washed the stone work on the front of our house (looks so much better!), and power washed the sidewalk and driveway. As we're preparing our home for the market, we hired DGP after reviewing several options. Doug came over with an assistant and did a thorough walk-through, and gave us a very competitive estimate. On the day of the paint job, Doug and his crew came right on time. He also carefully instructed the crew on the scope of the work before he left. Now here's where DGP earns their five stars. Before leaving, Doug pointed out some corners that needed extra care. We didn't catch this during the initial walk-through, but he still had his crew fix it without extra charge. On top of that, when I voiced our concern for matching paint, Doug gladly switched to Behr Premium, which I know is more expensive than Sherwin Williams that was contracted for. Onto the work itself. Perhaps it's a case of 'following the leader', but his crew really did a fantastic job. The details count with us and they were as detailed as I could hope for. This includes taping down every corner (some painters do not do this!), laying down paper and plastic on each floor surface, cleaning any other surface that may have gotten paint splashes, and doing three coats wherever needed. Overall, I'd highly recommend DGP for any painting needs your house may need. I cannot imagine any other company doing a better job than Doug and his fanstastic crew. read more

I hired DGP when I was remodeling my small business. I was a little anxious, because there was such a variety of surfaces that need to be done. DGP recently painted the outside of my house. The main reasons I chose them over other painters were first, they said they would hand wash the wood, and being a 1967 house, I thought that sounded good. Pressure washing the old wood, which already had damage in some places, seemed like a bad idea. Second, they repaired the rotten wood which not all painters will do. They arrived on time and finished the job in a week like they said they would (the weather cooperated). They did a great job and used premium paint, which I requested. This is likely the last exterior paint job this house will ever need (as long as I live there). DGP isn't the cheapest but they did a great job. I recommend them highly. read more
