Hands down, the best food we've had in Atlanta so far! From the moment you walk in, the upbeat music sets a lively vibe, and the restaurant's decor feels dark and mysterious, but with fun, playful touches that make it so inviting. Visiting from out of town and was craving soul food. My friend suggested we try this place. We came for an early dinner on a Saturday, it was a short 30 minute wait so we decided to wait it out. Reading the reviews I was worried we'd be either waiting forever and/or the customer service would be shaky. Neither was the case, surprisingly! We were greeted right away and got our drinks very quickly. I ordered the buffalo shrimp to start and the catfish with black eyed peas, mac n cheese and the cornbread. The buffalo shrimp didn't come with a sauce, which I thought was odd. Not even a ranch? Black eyed peas were fresh, hot and tasty. The catfish didn't appear to be as fresh, it didn't have a crunch to it, though the flavor was ok. It definitely needed hot sauce and tartar sauce since it was dried out. The mac n cheese had a nice presentation, but inside the noodles were dry. Unlike my friend, hers was really cheesy and moist. Lastly, the cornbread was just ok. Nothing really to write home about. I do think this place is worth a try, but not sure if I'd add this to my places to visit every time I'm in town. The food taste just like soul food so mad at myself because the picture of my food disappeared but it was amazing! The food really sung to me, I had the chicken wings which where hot, crispy, and flavorful paired with macaroni and greens, the greens were okay but the macaroni was amazingggg, one time for the cheese pull. For the drink I had a strawberry lemonade which was delicious and my sis had a strawberry lemon drop which was great as well. We will be back the next time we come to Atlanta. My Hubby had the chicken wings, Mac & cheese, collard greens and yams. He said the yams and mac & cheese were delicious, however that's where the positives ended as his chicken was bland along with the tough, flavorless collard greens. 3. My son ordered fried chicken breast with mac & cheese. He enjoyed the mac & cheese but stated the chicken breast was flavorless. 4. I was excited about trying some of Buford Highway's black-owned eateries during Black Restaurant Week and came early on a Thursday evening. The crowd started growing as I was finishing my meal. The service was really good. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. I started with the lobster bites. They were a little salty and were heavily breaded but it was real lobster and not bad. I had the strawberry lemon drop and found it to be too sweet with little liquor. I had the salmon with string beans and mashed potato's. I wouldn't have ordered a drink if I couldn't get food, especially when I was hungry. Not even a salad is vegetarian. The bartender went to ask the kitchen and this was the response "nothing is vegetarian and everything is cooked in the same grease" So...no separate fry grease - for the okra or fries - which a lot of restaurants are doing. Well when I say this put my on my back, it put me down. Normally when I choose to dine out or order takeout I always finish my food and look for more. Southern fire kitchen is truly southern food I couldn't even finish i order the turkey chops with Mac and cheese and their mashed garlic potato's . And there delicious honey butter corn bread. I couldn't even finish everything. That food was amazing seasoned greatly , hot and just damn delicious. Me and my friends were seated almost immediately. The drinks came fast and so did our starters. Our entrees did take about 40 minutes it I was 100% work the wait. The restaurant was beautiful the music was great and the vibes were truly amazing you could see yourself and everyone else around just truly enjoying themselves and the food. It took her awhile to come back, but when she did, she took our drink and food order. My son decided that he wanted a Sprite instead of the Lemonade & I caught her to tell her before she poured it, yet she brought him the lemonade anyway! Speaking of the Lemonade, they should keep it in a cooler prior to serving because our lemonades weren't served cold (even with Ice) Our food came out quickly & FRESH! The presentation was on point! My husband went here for the first time on Valentine's Day weekend. The food is really good and highly suggest making reservations. YaYa was our waitress, she took good care of us. However, there is room for improvement. They charge $5 for a non-alcoholic beverage with no refills. So coming to Atlanta from New York I thought I was going to be up to chin in southern style restaurants that served all the classic staples and boy was I wrong. There were only two options in the area and one of them closed at like 2 pm which is so strange but anyways found this place and even though its located in a strip mall it was actually a nice little vibe inside with a cute bar area. The food was like a 3.999/5 I would have given it the 4 but the seasoning on the chicken could have been a little better and the mac and cheese was more like cheese and mac. The mashed potatoesssss was the winner for me, a little heavy on the black pepper but still yummy.
