I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Paschal's. I ordered the fried chicken with mac and cheese, collard greens, and cornbread, and every part of the meal missed the mark. The collard greens and mac and cheese were served cold. The fried chicken had an unusual taste that made me question its freshness, and it seemed like it had been cooked in old grease, which affected both the flavor and quality. The cornbread tasted stale like as it had been sitting out for a couple of days, not to mention it wasn't even warmed before being served. Came here on a weekday for the very first time and I made reservations just in case. Luckily it did not get too busy for a weekday during lunch. We also got very lucky to find some free street parking as well within a very short, walking distance of the front door. Do not be deceived as this place is also connected or part of the same building of a hotel. Our service was very nice and friendly and she was so accommodating and helpful and answering questions. She also was quite flexible as far as explaining the side as well as what kind of dark meat pieces you were allowed to get. So that was really helpful. The food came out quickly and freshly cooked. The fried chicken is absolutely juicy and crispy. No complaints whatsoever other than the pieces could've been bigger. however, the side I believe were already premade and sitting out somewhere in the kitchen so they weren't hot and they definitely weren't as fresh. The peach Cabo, which they are also famous for did not disappoint. So glad I ordered it however it is quite small in size. They apparently also had an extra bread pudding that somewhat either forgot or didn't pick up and you'll see that in the box here and we took that to Go. That was quite delicious delectable and and sticky as it should be. This place is definitely an institution in Atlanta and I can understand why. This was one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta. During my last visit I had Bang Bang Shrimp. They were delicious. Fried Jumbo Shrimp. Delicious also. Mashed potatoes and gravy. They looked and tasted like they had been sitting in the saucer for hours. Green beans also looked like they were sitting in the saucer for hours and they were soggy and overcooked. I was so disappointed. Not sure when or if I'd be back. I was with a large group and couldn't get the servers attention otherwise I would have returned them. Pros We had a party of 8 but they allowed us to split into two tables next to each other with two different servers. The hostess was very friendly and accommodating and well as the servers. However, I did have to tell a server to get our server at one point. Cons The fried green tomatoes are good but the breading is falling apart. My rice and gravy originally came with a hair in it. They replaced it no questions asked. They do not split checks with parties of 6 or more. Not good for big parties. Would I Recommend: Yes. Airport Location: It's been a minute since I last visited Paschal's at Atlanta Airport, and honestly, my previous experience wasn't my favorite. I'm happy to say they totally redeemed themselves this time! The airport was its usual busy self, but the staff handled it like pros.. friendly, attentive, and efficient. Walked in here on a Saturday afternoon. My ride share driver said this place was good so I decided to try it myself. The restaurant is historic. I was warmly greeted by the receptionist and advised that they did not accept cash at that time. The restaurant is huge and has a second floor. It was a little loud for me at that time; some were celebrating birthday on the upper floor. I was surprised because a robot brought one of my orders. It was cool but at the same time, the gumbo had spilled off the bowl and onto the saucer. My server Danielle was nice and also working the bar so I understood that service could be slow. We visited on Sunday to celebrate my 83-year-old aunt's birthday with a group of about 12 people. We understood that we were a large party, but we expected that there might be additional support to accommodate us. Our food took well over an hour closer to an hour and a half to arrive. When it finally did, it was not hot and was not reflective of the quality and consistency that Paschal's is known for. As longtime supporters, this was especially disheartening. While I could see that our server worked very hard, the overall experience was still less than memorable. Paschal's is a staple in the community, and I've had wonderful service there in the past, which is why I know they are capable of doing better. Hands down the best soul food I've ever had. I'm here every single time I visit Atlanta. The fried chicken, greens, and mac and cheese is literally chefs kiss. Everything on their menu is amazing, but those are my absolute favorite. The peach cobbler is really good too and I don't like it anywhere else. Came to Paschals Sunday to host my sister's baby shower in the Maynard Jackson private room. Mr. Milton and Darious were our go to people and were incredible! The food was amazing and fresh as always!! I do recommend reservations or private experiences for optimal service. However at some point during the event I left/dropped my wallet. Mr. Milton informed us it would be at the "desk" for pickup. I came back and came to the host stand downstairs and explained the situation and received the WORST service from the young lady at the host stand. She wasn't helpful at all. However one of the wait staff Semaj (Se-ma-Jay) asked if I needed help and immediately found the wallet and was very kind and helpful. In Atlanta for our cousin Glenda's 70th Birthday. She suggested Paschal's and I'm glad she did. What a step back in history. When I walked in, I could feel the spirits of the elders welcoming me. We had an appetizer of collard green dip and it was delicious. I ordered fried shrimp, which was fried perfectly. My sister and cousin had the fried chicken and it wasn't fried to a golden brown. She's the reason from the freaking 3 stars!! They have valet that's $5, the gentleman was very nice too. The ambiance was nice, I love the pictures through out the establishment. The food was not great, I was pleased at all. The green tomatoes were ok! I could recommend the gumbo!! But the oxtails over mashed potatoes, nah. The collards , no . Ambiance was so nice. Enjoyed the wall art of the Civil Rights pioneers. Masai our server was excellent. Very polite. The food was a bit less wonderful especially for the price. My collard greens included the stems, not a traditional method of cooking and the leaves were very large. The 1947 fried chicken was juicy and moist. Not much to brag about on the candied yams. The peach cobbler and bread pudding were failures. The cobbler was very gelatinous and the crust was mushy. The bread pudding was large, however the bread was a bit more than day-old. On a quick trip to Atlanta I was so happy our friend made us reservations for Sunday brunch. We opted to order from the menu rather than the buffet ($45 per adult), since we weren't hungry enough to make it worth it. We did make our own version of a buffet though... ordering apps and meals to share. We loved the greens dip (might not be what it was called) and the fried green tomatoes! We had a party of 8, and went for my mom's 72nd birthday. We were all excited as it everyone's first time going and it will be the last. We arrived mid-day on a Sunday, which surprisingly weren't that many people dining in. There were a lot of people leaving, so we just missed the rush. At the start we were told that essentially half of the menu was sold out (ox tails, ribs, and catfish). We all ordered peach lemonade, which was luke warm. We waited an hour to get our food, which only half of the table received. By the time the balance of the food was delivered, the first half of the group had already finished their food. After waiting that long, they still forgot my son's order. It was at this point I asked to speak to the manager. Once he arrived, I was in shock as he looked like he crawled out of a laundry hamper. His appearance was unkept and just by his body language I knew this would not be a fruitful conversation. I explained to him how long it took our food to come out, which was cold (and bland) by the time it arrived, and also the long wait between receiving all of the food. At this time my son's food still had not arrived. I explained our server was good but they only had two people covering the entire dining area. However, when it was a birthday announcement, 6 staff members appeared from the back to sign happy birthday and then vanished leaving only the two servers. After explaining to the manager our experience, his reply was "ok, what else?". These were his exact words, no apology was provided nor did he offer to remedy the situation. He deflected the entire time and took no responsibility, nor did he offer an explanation to the delay. All he kept saying was "I'm just trying to understand the situation", which was explained to him several times. I called him out on his lack of professionalism and accountability as a manager and he still refused to acknowledge nor attempted to improve our experience. I immediately asked for the check so we could leave and that Paschals would never have to worry about us coming to the establishment ever again. I had requested my son's meal be removed from the ticket (which still had not arrived) and my dad wanted his food removed after taking one bite of his whiting which tasted like it was frozen for an extended period of time. Our server stated she would need her manager's approval before removing it from the ticket, so we waited. He did not return, instead he sent another server from the back to relay the message. After getting the requested items removed, we paid and left. Horrible experience and worse food. The whole experience felt like a scam: $5 for valet parking in the smallest parking lot I've ever seen for a building that size, over priced drinks, terrible service, and even worse food. For all the hype, the food was not seasoned well and it was cold. Everything tasted like it came out the microwave. Then it was a hassle getting items removed that we didn't eat. Entire meals went to waste due to the poor quality. We were not the only party that returned food, as there was a group of ladies who also returned their food sitting next to our table. The food is amaaaaazing authentic southern cuisine with flavors that take you back home. We had the ribs, fried chicken, catfish, and gumbo along with most of the side dishes. Of course, most people who go to this place well usually only complain about one thing and that's the parking. But what can you do. Very small parking area and the only choice you have is to valet it for five dollars, which isn't too bad. As far as a place it's huge. It's beautiful. It's cool to see the little robots bringing your food to you. Our waitress was extremely professional, kind, courteous, and extremely hard-working. She gave us a lot of tips of what to eat and what was great there. I personally had the oxtail, which was amazing! My wife had the fried chicken and claimed it's the best she's ever had. Between all of us, we had ribs (fall off the bone tender), fried chicken and catfish (fried just right and well-seasoned), and shrimp along with most of the sides - greens, sweet potatoes, black-eyed peas, rice and gravy, mac n cheese, brussel sprouts. The sides were good as well, the only exceptions - the rice was a little mushy and there was a little too much sweet chili sauce on the sprouts. The fries and catfish off the appetizer/starter menu were tasty, too. The tea and lemonade received great reviews and come with free refills. Service - here's where the problems come in. Again, our server was great; he's the reason I gave 3 stars instead of 2. The bartender on the other hand, was the complete opposite - rude and unwelcoming. A couple people from our party placed orders at the bar while we were waiting to be seated and had nothing good to say...I don't know if the automatic gratuity has something to do with her poor customer service or if she was just having a bad day, but either way, customer service is just as important as good food. I don't recommend The Other Island drink - it's very sweet and you can't taste the alcohol. It's a tropical version of a long island iced tea, a drink you should not have to wonder about whether or not the alcohol is there. My cousin didn't really enjoy the Hennessy peach margarita either.
