Catfish entree and beef short rib entree (with sides)
Connie T.

The food did not disappoint, however the service was unsatisfactory. We got the fried catfish with fried okra and Mac and cheese-- added on wings and mashed potatoes on the side. First time having the fried okra here and it was good. I really liked the batter and the touch of ranch seasoning. Ambiance was okay. As far as service, it was not good whatsoever. Our server greeted us and gave us water then proceeded to not check on us for 15+ minutes. A big group came in during that time and he proceeded to take their order, to which I got up and asked the manager for help. She quickly handled that for us and got us another server. I really enjoy the food here but the service does not match up. With an automatic 18% gratuity added, I do expect a higher level of service.

The food was amazing! The service was just okay, did a walk in, I was asked if I had reservations, waited about 45 minutes to be seated only to walk in and see several tables available, once seated the waiter informed us that there is no free refills, never heard of that before, thank goodness the food made up for the mishaps, everything was seasoned good.

I was in town for a work trip and staff decided we wanted soul food! We decided to give Southern Fire Kitchen a try. We attem to make reservations in advance, but there weren't any available. We did a walk in and didn't have any issues being seated. When we arrived there was a bouncer outside that led us in to the person who sat us down. The vibe was just what I needed. Nice decor, TVs to watch the games, and the music was old school and new rnb. The food was so good! I ordered the wings with two sides and added an additional side and cornbread to share with my coworker. The greens had a slight sweetness to it, which I didn't care for, but the hot sauce helped to tame it down. The cornbread was decent. I tried my coworkers catfish and it was cooked to perfection. Im ready to return to GA, just to I can make another stop to Southern Fire Kitchen!

I dined here recently with some friends and really enjoyed it. It's located in a large shopping plaza on Buford Highway and plenty of free parking is available. The restaurant is small, so I highly suggest that you make reservations. Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed an armed security guard outside and it threw me off. I get it though, it is Atlanta after all. Our server introduced herself promptly and asked if we wanted bottled water. We all ordered one, but noticed that other people had glasses of ice water. She never gave an alternative option, so we just assumed that they only had bottled water. To start, I ordered a watermelon margarita. It was good. To eat, I ordered the fried whiting with candied yams, collard greens and macaroni and cheese. The fish was fried to perfection and the yams were delicious! I really enjoyed the collard greens as when. The mac & cheese was just ok to me. The played a great selection of music and the service was fine. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. I'd definitely return.

I've been here twice now and I do overall enjoy this restaurant but the reviews are correct. The restaurant itself is really nice I came in twice with no reservation and was seated relatively quick. Upon seating our server did take a little to come over (both times) and when they come over they take your order typically at that time (great for me as I was hungry). Only downside is once you get your drinks you probably won't see your server stopping by again until it's time for the food. We were seated next to the kitchen area I believe and there was an awful smell coming from somewhere. I started to get nauseous from it until we moved from sitting there. I'm not sure if it's something in the wall or what but it smelled awful. The food here is always superior I've never had anything I didn't like. The only downside none of the drinks get free refills. The food doesn't typically take long but oftentimes you don't get all that you ask for once it is brought and you have to remind them. We ordered cornbread but didn't get it until after we had our food. I assume it was forgotten. The menu states the included gratuity so be aware when paying. It does show you on the pad though but don't overtip by not paying attention. Our server was attentive when it came time to pay otherwise we had to stop her constantly just for simple things. The two servers that I had both times never came over just to check in. Overall, If you can get past the low grade service this is the place you should go.

I really wanted to like this place, but I just couldn't get over the pricey Over cooked dried out salmon and twice fried catfish. We arrived pretty late on a Saturday night and I am assuming they were getting ready to close so they were doing their final orders and it looked like we received the last of what was there. The place look lovely, but the food was completely off.

The food was very good. Great portions! The server was prompt, polite and on it even though the restaurant was busy.

The ambiance was perfect for our group. Sufficient parking and there wasn't a wait to be seated and order. The only thing I was disappointed in was one of the waitresses didn't want us to add a table even though there weren't other patrons who needed it at the time. The food temperature and taste was phenomenal!!

Off the top this place gets a 4.5! Jordan, "like the river" was our server and what a nice polite gentleman he was! Any questions we had he answered with confidence; no second-guessing at all. His recommendations were spot on. If you go, ask for him! My daughter and I were looking for soul food and happened upon this spot. We went on a Sunday when the Patriots whipped the Texans ;) I was happy to see this place had a bar and TVs so I could watch the game! The music was at a decent level. The patrons were of mixed ages. The staff was upbeat. I ordered catfish, greens, and yams. My daughter ordered fried chicken wings, greens and mac n cheese. The sweet tea was perfect! I can't wait to visit this place again!! If you order the greens know that they have a vinegar taste, they come with lots of stems and an abundance of juice. A stem or two is fine but too much is too much. Way too much juice for my liking. The yams were yamming. My daughter said they had too much cinnamon so... I tasted her mac and cheese and it was wonderful! My catfish was fried to perfection and was served piping hot! I really enjoyed all of my food. There was no need for a box to go. I left nothing but crumbs. Be prepared for Jordan to talk you in to a dessert! You won't regret it. Before I head back west I have to try and hit this place again!!!

Checked this establishment out had. Friday evening 7:15 reservation. When we arrived there was a small line outside of folks who hadn't made a reservation ... so I would recommend doing that before coming. To me that kind speaks to the how good the restaurant may be. We were greeted and seated right away at the bar with a reservation because that's all they had left. Now on my reservation I stated it was our anniversary dinner and requested a good seat. At the bar was cool but definitely not what I would have preferred. The bartender was great, cocktails are good and the food was really good! We enjoyed it all. The green beans were a bit over seasoned was our kinda negative. The fish and chicken were seasoned well and fried crisp! The music and everything g else was a good vibe. I'd give back again.

Honey garlic chicken with greens and Mac & cheese

Service was ok, Mac & cheese was dry but that chicken and greens was great, I would go back for those two things alone. No free refills so drinks could also get pricey.

This place is so tasty! Even though the location is quaint, I'm obsessed and think the food is so worth it. I haven't had a bad item here in the three times I've visited and the most recent time I placed a to go order. The catfish is my absolute favorite and it's always fried to perfection. The macaroni and cheese & yams are my go to sides and they're so mouth watering. I highly recommend.

Great food. The price was a little high, but that's typical for the restaurant industry now. Will go back.

Great seafood and service!…read more Let's get into it! Location and Parking Located in Chamblee, there is plenty of free parking available as it is in a shopping center. I saw previous reviews mentioning that parking was a challenge, however I visited on a weekday so I didn't have that issue. Venue and Atmosphere The interior is sleek yet casual, with plenty of sunlight from floor to ceiling windows. Feel free to browse the selection of fresh seafood as you enter. Food and drinks I visited with friends and we shared several appetizers: oxtail gumbo, salmon bites, grilled oysters. They were all delicious and flavorful. Service Service was friendly, prompt, and efficient Verdict I'll be back!

Wow--let's talk about this dining experience…read more The oxtail gumbo? My first time trying it, and definitely not my last. Every bite was rich, comforting, and fully satisfying. Then came the salmon bites on wonton--crispy, flavorful, and such a perfect balance of texture. For the entrée, the pasta with salmon was not only delicious but a generous portion that didn't miss. And for something sweet... the bread pudding? So moist, topped with ice cream and Oreos--it was giving indulgence in the best way. But what really sealed the night for me was the coffee pairing. It took the show and brought everything together beautifully. I also loved the range of the menu--there's something for every craving. The service was excellent, and the food presentation matched the quality. Honestly had me thinking, what took me so long to dine here? Especially since I'm in this area often. Bonus: patio seating for outdoor season, plus easy access with self-parking, valet, or a parking deck.

Everything was outstanding, especially the egg. No wonder this is Michelin recommended! We then met chef Jared and he is amazing. He even assisted us in buying a piece on display from a local artist. As yes, they have local art up on display - a great idea for a restaurant! Note for parking: use the valet. At first there was a mix up with who was serving us do we got explained the drink menu twice. After our appetizer, we waited about 30-40 minutes for the rest of our items which took longer than we thought. They did give us some house made popcorn to keep us busy. Jahjoy pork belly: Tasty & tendor. I loved the papaya salad which left a refreshing contrast. A bit too saucy for me. Flavors were strong. Squid ink bucatini: our favorite! Must get dish - bucatini is perfectly al dente & the spicy sauce was very flavorful. Jumbo shrimp was delicious, and the anchovy on top left a nice strong flavor. Red snapper: This has some Vietnamese influences with the sauce. It was a lighter dish which was just OK for me, I would have liked the fish to have a crispier skin. Not much flavor besides the sauce which is inspired by canh chua. Wagyu flank steak: cooked to perfection and flavored well, loved the celery puree which was much tastier than we expected celery to be. Dessert was mint chocolate cake which was very tasty. I wish the cake was softer and meltier in the center but it was still good. Malt gelato was delicious. Could def taste the mintiness. Creme pat along the edges was a nice add to the cake with cacao nibs and popcorn for a textural contrast. I enjoyed it!! Overall we had a great meal and could tell the ingredients were very fresh. The presentation for all the dishes was beautiful!! We can tell the chef puts care in his food :) Appreciated the personal touch - they gave a handwritten card to my husband for his birthday!

I'm so glad we listened to the other reviews and gave them a visit because our entire table of four had a lovely time. We started with drinks and I settled on a glass of wine. They had the exact type of sauvignon blanc that I wanted, which was an immediate win. As a group we settled on the whipped goat cheese and brussel sprouts for appetizers. The brussel sprouts came with bacon so I steered clear, but the others raved about them. The whipped goat cheese dip was also a nice choice with the garden veggies. Super creamy and refreshing. As for my entree I went with risotto of the week with salmon. It was absolutely delicious and I ate every bite. We had a birthday in the group so we of course had to get desserts. We shared the creme brulee and this super decadent chocolate cake. Both with fresh berries, love! The creme brulee was definitely my favorite of the two, but you can't go wrong. As for the space itself, it's beautiful. It gave off a sort of a modern farmhouse vibe with the wood and brick. With the twinkle lights and earthy touches bringing it all together. Our service was also on point. Jackson was awesome (as you can see in the other reviews) and kept the good vibes flowing all night. I would definitely come here again.

The Ashford is a pretty nice place to grab either brunch, lunch, or dinner! We came around 7, so we had dinner. You can sit outside or inside, the weather was really nice, but we just wanted to sit inside in the AC. I got a glass of the bieler rose, which was recommended by our server. My wife got the lavender daydreams cocktail, which was really good! We all shared the chicken spring rolls and the burrata bruschetta. Both were really good! The chicken spring rolls were in a rice paper, and not the usual wonton paper. I don't usually like the rice paper spring rolls, but these ones weren't too bad. For our main, me and my wife got the chicken schnitzel. They even split it on two different plates for us too, which was nice of them to do. It was SO GOOD. Pretty sure I inhaled mine! We also shared the mac and cheese and the mashed potatoes. The mac and cheese was soooooo good. It was a pimento mac and cheese, and had herbed breadcrumbs. Chef's kiss! The only reason this isn't getting 5 stars, is because our food took FOREVER to come out. There were some larger parties, so I do get it, but this was like 30-45 minutes forever. Also, I can't remember which dish, but one of the dishes me and my wife got was cold, so we asked to send it back to get a warmer version, which they did. They comped this off the bill, which was nice. That didn't bother me as much as the food coming out so late. Had that not been the case, I would've given this review 5 stars! The food was really really good. We would definitely still come back in the future!
