IMO the portions are too big and too much potential waste. How about smaller portions as an option ? I did not feel good about leaving half my breakfast to the dumpster and not about to drag a doggie bag around in my car and risk food poisoning. Southern bells This new American Resturant has a moden interior.  It strikes me as a chain.  The staff was friendly, attentive and attractive. I love eating here. I have gone here with my students from Chikara Martial Arts Academy, down the street from them. I have brought my family and friends here. The food is made fresh everyday and the quality speaks for itself. I feel this is a great place to come for a tasty Breakfast or Lunch. The Service is top notch. My Coffee cup is never empty. And my server usually makes sure that I have everything I need to enjoy my experience there. I remember before they had WIFI that I asked them if they would have Wireless internet. Shortly after I asked about that, they had it, and it really makes being there for a business meeting for a afternoon lunch away from the office pleasant and productive. Today I tried the hotlanta skillet. Not sure how long it's been on the menu but it was my first time seeing it. It's a blend of smoked sausage, chicken, jalapeno and cheese. Needless to say it was amazing! No matter what, I always get my own unique signature pancakes with ice cream and strawberries but today I didn't get whipped cream... Now I'm stuffed and happy. This place was amazing. As long as you don't hit a church rush, they get you a seat within 10 minutes. The decor is old country but very open. The menu is HUGE! This place is fantastic from the service to the food, just fantastic. We go all the time. We did once get a greek salad from here and the dressing was not remarkable. We sent it back with our comments, and to there credit they came out and talked to us about it. They went in the back and starting tasting it and I can't wait to go back and see if they fixed it. I pass this place all the time but never went in to eat. I went to the one in Yorkville and I was not impressed. I had breakfast with a friend here and it was amazing. I had the Fried Green Tomato breakfast plate. OMG! This was awesome. Our waitress was wonderful. I know exactly who Carl H. is talking about in his review. The young lady cashier does seem a little put off. She wouldn't even look at us in the eyes when ringing us up. But all the other staff are very pleasant and I will go back again read more

ENJOYED our family breakfast here on Memorial Day morning. The staff is ALWAYS very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. Their specialty pancakes are the size of a plate, their skillets are amazing. My husband enjoys their shrimp & grits along with their fried green tomatoes. I LOVE there corn beef hash. Good food, but terrible customer service. We decided to try the restaurant when we received a "buy one get one free" coupon in the mail. Unfortunately, we discovered the coupon had expired by one day, when paying the cashier. She explained they have current coupons in this month's flier, but would not honor this expired one. When I tried to reason with her, she became very rude and unprofessional. I could understand if a limited-time coupon or promotion was over. But in this case, they admitted to having the exact same coupon that was current, but my particular coupon had expired. So why not just honor this coupon and make the customer happy? The coupon did it's job by bringing a NEW CUSTOMER to their business. Too bad they've just lost that customer forever. read more

So, I went to this place with my family for the first time on Father's Day. I ordered an Italian sausage omelet (Italian sausage, peppers, onions, mozzarella cheese) with pancakes and hash browns. I must say the omelet was not good as the only flavor it had was onion. It tasted like I was eating an onion omelet. If there was Italian sausage and peppers I couldn't tell. I even added some salt and pepper, but I couldn't eat it. My father in-law got an omelet as well (corn beef hashed) and said similar experience for him. This is the reason I am giving 3 stars. I do not recommend getting and omelet here. On the plus side my pancakes were excellent. Good flavor and large size. My wife and mother in-law had eggs Benedict and they were very happy with their breakfast. Also, our server did a good job. so the service was good. I will go again and try something other than an omelet as the menu has a good variety of breakfast selections. read more

Went here with my brother in law when my family was visiting. HUUUge portions and scrumptious. I ordered the Mexican skillet, and barely finished half. And the two pancakes you get? They're dinner plate-sized pancakes. Not nearly possible for someone to finish! My husband had the bananas foster french toast and ate almost every bite with his maple syrup. I have yet to go to Southern Belle's when it's not busy. This may be because you can always find a groupon for the place, or because it has really good food. Either way... It's really cute on the inside, and they added some great outdoor seating with covered panels for the summer. Their menu is huge and full of things for any kind of breakfast taste. I tend to stick to the skillets and omelets. It should be noted that if your menu item contains cheese, it will come with tons of it. They do NOT mess around with any toppings, but I feel like they're super serious about cheese application. I've gone for lunch once and got a soup/salad special. Their lunch was fine but I want to make note of the lunch rolls, because they are worth coming to a breakfast place in the afternoon. They are light, fluffy and delicious. They are so delicious, in fact, that I asked my waitress if we could buy them for Thanksgiving dinner (she said yes... and they were pretty cheap, if memory serves). read more

Went here for grandma's birthday this week because she likes those family restaurant type places. To be fair, I've eaten here before and the food has been pretty good. This time left a lot to be desired. First, we had the soup - cream of potato. It was very runny like water with one hunk of potato sunk in the bottom. It looked like they took the Cream of Chicken soup from Sunday (we were there midweek), watered it down and threw some leftover potatoes in the mix. Our next dish was the biscuits N gravy. The biscuits were hard like hockey pucks covered in sauce. Another one at the table, had burnt French fries with their order. And grandma had a sandwich that was plain white bread with packaged turkey slices. That's it. And that cost $12.99. After this visit, we are not coming back. I've had breakfast here twice now and had a good experience both visits. The service is good and the breakfast food is very good. I recommend the omlettes, they are both large and tasty. I visited this place on a Fri morning and Sun morning. It was busy on the Friday and very busy on the Sun morning (20 min wait). The price is a little steep for breakfast food. Even the other hostess told her to stop being rude. very classless act. after we told our waitress, the manager came out and told us to "act like ladies" while proceeding to yell at us. Again, my friends and i were nothing but respectful at all times. We simply just wanted to enjoy our post graduation brunch, but unfortunately it was ruined by these two workers. Just OK. They definitely have some improvements to make. My order came out wrong. Ordered a cinnamon/pecan waffle and a side of extra crispy bacon. Received a cinnamon APPLE waffle and the bacon was not at all crispy. I'm hoping that once they get the kinks out from being new that it will be a nice breakfast joint. We always thought this place was decent, but we started going up the road to mix it it up, and came back to Southern Belle's about 3 months ago wanting to spend our extra dollars in local Plainfield. Something has changed here and for the better, quality of food is just spot on. We no longer alternate between here and the other place. So glad this location opened up, as its so much closer to me than the Joliet location. They have monster pancakes that are so fluffy and can't stop eating them every time I'm there, no matter how stuffed I am! I guess this is a chain and first thought that it was a one of a kind place (like Larry's acrossed the street). It is often crowded on Saturday morning but we often go and use the buy one entree and get one free deal which makes the meal $15-20 with tip which is great for good food at a breakfast place. The inside is clean and the service is great and people are friendly. I am looking forward to trying the outdoor seating in the summer! It's always packed so get there early and I would certainly recommend them over the rival long time Larrys next door. read more

I hated to give them only 2 stars because I have enjoyed the food in the past but todays visit was terrible! First the waitress was real late delivering my cup of soup & I said oh I forgot about it, she said she did too. I let that slide because she was very nice but when my husband & daughter's food came out & not mine I was very shocked, that never happens, then got concerned as I waited (I told the server they are almost done eating I don't want it anymore, she continued saying it was almost done & she keeps checking & now can't ask anymore to avoid getting in trouble), never offered to take my missing meal off bill either. When my family was completely done eating is when I became upset & said I wanted to talk to the manager and I DO NOT want my food now and I want the check. After waiting awhile, the waitress came back saying the manager was too busy to come out & was going to send another waitress out to take her place. What a disgraceful act of customer service! The waitress took off the meal & said the food was almost ready to come out & the manager said they are short handed & person on the other side of the grill was slow, seriously asked if I still wanted to eat it there or have it to go...wow I said to go, she offered us to go coffee's which we declined & I said I know its not your fault and still gave her a good tip. For waitress training... it would have been nice if she said she will remove the late meal off the bill when my family was just 1/2 way done with theirs and not me saying it when they were completely done. I understand being short handed but when an upset customer requests to see them, they need to come out! read more

Asked to switch my shredded hash browns for cubed potatoes and was told they could not do it because their skillets are premade and bagged. I've live in Plainfield for a year and a half, and decided to try Southern Belle's for the first time this last Sunday. I was really glad to see they had a Gluten Free part of their menu! I had options for what to eat and I was really glad for that! Our server was nice, and the atmosphere was good. It was a little cold, and I wasn't happy that they had to serve our drinks in styrofoam cups due to being out of glasses. All in all I would definitely go there again! read more
