Irishman Skillet

I ordered the Irishman Skillet with no onions or peppers. When my food arrived, it contained barely any corned beef hash and was mostly potatoes and hash browns. I politely asked my waitress if I could get some additional corned beef hash. She told me she would check with the manager, Sherry. When she returned, she informed me that there would be an extra charge because all the food is measured. I then asked to speak with Sherry directly. Unfortunately, her approach was extremely disappointing. She came over, stood about four feet away, and immediately became defensive. She didn't ask what was wrong, listen to my concern, or offer any solution. Instead, she repeatedly stated that all the food is measured and that I would have to pay extra. When I mentioned that I would be leaving a review about my experience, her response was, "Go ahead." I understand that restaurants have portion sizes and policies, but customer service and how you treat people matter just as much as the food you serve. There is a difference between explaining a policy professionally and making a customer feel like their concerns don't matter. I am extremely disappointed with how Sherry handled this situation. Management should be willing to listen to customers and make an effort to resolve concerns respectfully. Please think twice before choosing Southern Belles in Plainfield. Based on my experience, the restaurant did not make me feel valued as a customer. Sherry could certainly benefit from learning how to communicate with customers in a more professional, respectful, and customer-friendly manner.

Wow this place is amazing! Imagine a place that offers that amazing Midwest hospitality and giant portions of food. Truly a remarkable experience and only a few blocks away from downtown Plainfield. I truly enjoyed this place and I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Pork belly skillet, served with cornbread.

Went here for an extended family breakfast, with a party of 8 on a Sunday morning. They were able to accommodate our larger party despite being a little busy. I really like that this place has awesome large selection of breakfast items. I decided to try something hearty with the pork belly skillet. It was quite delicious and was a large enough portion that I took half home for the next day. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, especially with a big beautiful Christmas tree for the season. I would definitely want to return again!

Feta and spinach omelette. Carry out.

Cold weather set me up for a carry out breakfast. Today a spinach and feta omelette. Ordered on line and was ready at stated time. Don't truly like carry out, but this was done correctly with condiments and decent packaging. Omelet was moist and hardy. Has browns crispy by request. Rye toast was good. Service at counter was very pleasant. I will return.

Fried Green Tomato

Southern comfort food for breakfast? Yes, please! I came here for breakfast with my husband and we were blown away by their creative menu. Everything had a little southern touch. Cheesy eggs, drop biscuits, burnt ends, cajun cream, fried green tomatoes... I wanted to order everything. Southern Belle's is also the home of the "bonuts" a cross between a biscuit and a donut. I didn't get to try those but here is what we ordered: To share: fried green tomatoes His: burnt ends bowl, coffee Mine: spicy chicken biscuit, iced coffee The spicy chicken was a breaded boneless chicken thigh between a drop biscuit and cheesy eggs, on top of a bed of hash browns and then smothered with a huge helping of cajun cream sauce, which was like cajun-rosemary gravy. It was SO good and I haven't had anything like it before. The portions are very generous and we each had a full meal to pack home with us. Their fried green tomatoes were also delicious, they were breaded with corn meal and freshly fried. All of their ingredients were fresh and the food was made to order. Southern Belle's had a lovely friendly atmosphere, and folks were here with their friends and family. There are gorgeous Tiffany lamps hanging above booths, which lined the sides of the main dining room. Tables and chairs were set up in the center of the room and it felt very spacious and kind of reminded me of a rec hall where we had meals during sleep away camp. There was something very comforting about Southern Belle's beyond their coma-inducing comfort food. The moment you step food inside, you'll immediately want to come back. That's exactly how we felt. Tip: When the server brings the check, you'll pay up front by the cash register. There's a 99 cent fee if you're paying by credit card to help cover transaction fees. We can't wait to come back and try their other items, including the bonuts. A solid four stars!

Sat on the patio

Visiting from Los Angeles and was shocked to see the bad reviews for Southern Belle's. I come here every time I visit the area and I have only positive things to say. The food is great, I had the Benedict, it was amazing. We sat on the patio, which surprised the staff, but I thought it was lovely. The service was a 10/10, our server whose name was either Ariana or Adriana, I think, was amazing, she took wonderful care of us. I will definitely be back and the people who wrote the bad reviews...I don't know what they are complaining about.

Good food, fun atmosphere Good service. We will definitely…read morebe back! Loved the live music ... just a bit loud

Nottt a favourite. My sister and I pulled up last year--I ordered a Buffalo Chicken Wrap and we…read moreshared the Smoked Chicken + Artichoke Dip and the cheese curds. It ended up being a massive bummer! For the wrap, I really do hate sounding so harsh, but I don't know how else to put it other than it was one of the worst things I've had. It was soggy, cold, and smelled--not sure about the taste since I could barely taste anything except the sauce--almost rancid! I have NEVER had Buffalo sauce taste like that before! And my lettuce was super soggy and super yellow with some browning, past the regular texture + colour for this type of lettuce. I had many more pieces, but I was so in shock from the wrap that I genuinely didn't take any photos. I genuinely felt ill and I couldn't come close to finishing it--and neither could my sister when she tried to help! The dip was OK, but again, it was cold and rather tasteless. We did end up finishing it, but it wasn't generally noteworthy. It was the best out of the three items we tried, though! The cheese curds were either barely cooked and stale or very overcooked and chilled--the cheese was hard, rubbery, and really cold! They were seasoned nicely though, so we ate enough of it--especially my sister who found some redeeming factors within them! The sauce helped! Oddly enough, we were basically the only people inside, so I'm not sure what went so wrong! There was a small post-funeral or celebration of life being hosted outside (I think???? Everyone in that area wore black/dark formal clothing and looked upset), so maybe all the care went to them?? I'm not sure how it could've really been a "bad day" since it was pretty well staffed and seemingly little stress, but I'm giving a benefit of the doubt if that's my ignorance!! The employees were so sweet and bubbly, though! Interior was cute and super lively, but EXTREMELY cold LOL. Maybe that's why our food was frigid... Redeeming points: The water tasted good!! Not much more to say, just pretty disappointed! I've heard people really like it, even people I know personally, but I really cannot think about it much without feeling ill! I wish I was joking!! Plus, my sister was returning after visiting with our father, where she ordered a Reuben which was overall OK, but not really worth the price (as she reports!). Really unfortunate! Not sure if we will be returning, but we really did appreciate the kind servers and awesome environment!
