We were excited to try Urban Kitchen, and it absolutely delivered. Right away, the decor stood out, unique without being over the top, warm, and inviting. The waitstaff was friendly, helpful, and genuinely attentive without hovering. We started with drinks: blueberry mojitos and sangria. Both were fantastic. The flavors were perfectly balanced, refreshing, and it was clear they were made with real care and attention, not just poured and sent out. For appetizers, we ordered the chips with guacamole and salsa. We weren't expecting the chips to come out hot and clearly fresh from the fryer, but wow, perfectly crisp with just the right amount of salt. The guacamole tasted fresh and clean, and the salsa had a great balance of heat and flavor without overpowering anything. I ordered the birria tacos, and they were outstanding. The meat was incredibly well seasoned, tender, and full of flavor. You can tell when food is prepared by someone who truly cares about what they're making, those kinds of flavors can't be faked. The Cobb salad was equally impressive: fresh ingredients, a perfect portion size, moist chicken, and a dressing that tied everything together beautifully. One of the nicest surprises was learning that Urban Kitchen supports the community through Meals on Wheels. It's always great to enjoy a meal knowing the restaurant gives back. The only downside? Nice, cozy spot. Staff is super nice and very helpful. Facility is clean and nicely decorated for the holiday (2024) which gives you a comforting vibe. Ordering counter with monitors displaying the menu items. There is an open seating area with tables, booths and if memory serves me higher bar seating as well. In addition, there is outside seating for the nicer months. We ordered for a party of 6: Birria Steak Tacos, Marriage Queso Tacos, Cheesecake Quesadilla with white rice and beans, Steak Burrito with rice and beans and corn in a cup, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with ranch dressing and fries and Steak Taco with Corn in a Cup. As well as chips with guacamole and salsa. Then as walking through and checking out the facility I saw another guest had some pretzel rods with cheese ... so I had to order that as well. I dont think there was a thing we ordered that we did not enjoy. Not sure the sandwich stood a chance. The chip were freshly cooked and came out hot and the guacamole and salsa were made to perfection. The Birria Queso that I ordered had such flavor and the cheese was stringy and was absolutely delicious. I tried a bite of the burrito with that wasnvery flavorful as well. The rice was unlike any rice I'd had before. I'd say, for the pretzels, make them bites and cook until a bit more crunchy and with that cheese ... those would be better (I think). Holy cow! We began our meal with the cauliflower bites, which were sweet with a little kick - absolutely delicious! Next, we had the nachos, and oh my gosh, they were phenomenal! Super warm, light, and crispy. The green avocado sauce that came with the fish tacos was more salty than spicy but worked really well with the nachos and fish tacos- perfect in every way. I can't wait to try the chicken nachos next time. I ordered the fish tacos, and my boyfriend had the steak fajita. There was way too much food, but we were happily stuffed! Normally, I'm cautious about places with "urban" in the name, but we gave this spot a try after finding out the Oasis next door was closed. I'm so glad we did! The atmosphere is comfortable and the food is incredible. I do wish we could order while seated and with proper menus, but that's not a deal breaker. This place is a gem! I will be back! This is an awesome place. I recently moved into the area and was using Yelp to help me find places around me. The listing for Urban Kitchen caught my eye. It was especially the widely varied menu. So, while moving in, I tried it last night along with some family that was helping me move. I've got to say that we were throughly impressed. Right from walking in we were greeted warmly. It must have been the "deer caught in the headlights" look that we had on out faces when we were looking at the menus board that prompted the person behind the counter to inquire if it was our first time here. Once he heard our answer he came from behind the counter and asked if we were dinning in. We said that we were, he grabbed menus and took us to a table, then quickly walked us through the menus. Service was outstanding. The whole vibe, decoration of the place was fresh, upscale and very pleasing. Now for the food. We ordered a plate of nachos to begin. Well worth the price with a generous quantity of freshly made guacamole. The three of us ordered: a half rack of ribs with fries, Thai chili salmon with corn in a cup (Mexican street corn), and the fish tacos. Everything was very good to excellent, and bountiful. When the bill came, I was very surprised by it. Very upscale, delish, bountiful food at a reasonable price. It's been a long time since I've felt so pleased and satisfied with the level of service, food quality and quantity, to cost ratio. This is definitely a repeat! Casual dining experience for area. Walk in and order food at counter and get your own drink. Place is nice and clean, chill spot to grab food. I ordered the birria tacos and cauliflower appetizer w horchata. Food was ready quickly and brought to my table . Everything was good, had flavor. Only wish the cauliflower had a little more sauce on it and that the birria tacos were a bit crispier. That's just personal preference though, will definitely be back to try more things. read more

This is such a solid spot, I can't wait to come back again. We were looking for something quick and on the lighter side for dinner. The salads were made with fresh ingredients and the right proportions. The dressing was juuust the right amount, bringing the perfect balance to the salad. The cauliflower was even better than I expected, perfectly crispy and cooked. The prices were fair and the portion size matched. The restaurant is clean and modern with plenty of seating. The staff was welcoming and patient. We found out that this establishment is owned by two brothers who are passionate about what they do. I would definitely recommend this small business to anyone. I ordered the chopped Salad from here, it was good taste wise and the dressing was also tasty. BUT I ended up finding a bug half way thru the salad. I was disgusted. I couldn't even finish it and threw it out. I did call the restaurant to complain but no one answered. I called a few times. There hours said they were still opened. This is a great place that we had heard about but never tried! We were the only car there around 8 pm on a Thursday night and almost didn't go in. We are so glad we did. I ordered for delivery tonight. I got the chicken club sandwich. It comes with grilled chicken, tomato, lettuce, bacon, avocado, and mayo. Overall the sandwich was good but I feel it had too much lettuce which made it kind of soggy. The chicken was grilled to perfection and the avocado was fresh along with the bacon being crispy. It came with a side of fries and you definitely get a lot of them. I was personally a fan of them. I also got mozzarella sticks and they were some of the best I've had in the area. From the outside I wasn't expecting much but the inside was very modern and cozy with wood tables, booths, and comfy chairs. The ceiling has cute twinkle lights that they turn on at night along with music which creates a cool vibe in the space. You place your order at the front counter and are given a number and they bring the food to your table. I ordered the Birria Tacos and my friend ordered steak tacos with a side of the cilantro rice. The Birria Tacos were hot and tasted really fresh. The meat was well seasoned and they put a good amount of cheese! My friend also really enjoyed her meal. So much that she mentioned returning soon! We live in a small farm town about 55 miles West of Joliet. Once a month or so we go to Barnes and Noble on Plainfield Rd and afterward go out to eat. Found the Urban Restaurant on Yelp and it was close so we decided to try it out. No disappointments here, all was good. The service, the food, and the atmosphere. My wife had the Steak Tacos and I had the Market Salad. We also had a side of Nachos. The food was very tasty and well presented with ample portions. Needless to say the next time we go to the bookstore...............our next stop is the Urban Kitchen Restaurant. We ordered a steak burrito and steak tacos with a side of chips and guac. The chips were cooked fresh which is rare to find these days!
