Happy to discover our favorite breakfast and lunch restaurant is now open for dinner. My husband had his favorite- the patty melt with waffle fries and a bowl of the daily soup. I chose the meatloaf dinner with mashed potatoes and a side salad. The food portions were huge and came out nice and hot. Our waitress Peppir was very friendly and attentive to our needs. We will definitely be back again for the awesome food and hopefully great service, like Peppir provided. The restaurant was also very bright and clean inside. First time here, as I'm new to the area. Went on a Saturday morning, it was busy but i was seated within minutes! I ordered the skirt steak and eggs with an order for the Thick Cut French toast. My photos are screenshots from a video i took. But the steak was cooked perfectly !! And very nicely seasoned. The French toast was so thick i barely even finished one slice. I'm not the biggest fan of Hashbrowna, i prefer home fries but these have been the best in the area, that I've tried so i was definitely impressed. We live by the one on 59 so we thought we'd give it a try. I hate to be a Karen but some of these places make it so hard. The worst breakfast we've ever had & my boyfriend eats anything. The skillet came with cheese slices thrown on top not even melted the bacon for both of us was raw/awful and nothing had flavor. The gravy was a travesty. While hanging out in Joliet il I wanted to start off with breakfast from a local place and did I pick the place to be for breakfast. The lot was full at just after 8am but I did get a booth and the whole time I was there people never stopped walking in to my amazement. The place is large with tons of booths and tables. This was your typical looking Greek style restaurant and the big menu that matched. My service was surprisingly good for how full/busy they were and I was started off with a carafe of ice water with a lemon slice in it which was a nice touch. The menu is large with tons of options but I would keep it simple and have ham a eggs. My ham and eggs looked great with a big piece of ham off the bone and three eggs, see my picture. The eggs were perfect sunny side up. The ham was good with a sweet light smoke flavor. The big helping of potatoes needed salt and they were not browned very well and I should have asked for extra crispy. The toast is the generic three options so I chose white. They give you the great whipped butter for the toast but it was useless for the toast when it is straight out of the freezer because it's not spreadable at all, what a shame. Overall the breakfast was better than average and I can see it's super popularity with the locals with good service at such a busy time. read more

A group of us came here for lunch after a seminar and it was a quick little meal to satisfy us. We were seated rather quickly, but that is the extent to our "great service". Our waitress was slow even though the restaurant was not packed on a weekday afternoon. First off, the menu is pretty big. Usually diner restaurants have a big menu because the use the same ingredients in a variety of ways. I like this because you aren't suck with one dish. However, I also tend to go the safe route when I order because you never know the quality of ingredients unless they are known for something. I ordered the club sandwich and it was ok. the lettuce was a little limp and bread was a little squishy. The fries were good as they typically are for me. They were soggy which I like so beware crispy fry lovers. Overall, I'd say pretty good. Service and quality of ingredients can improve, but not the worst I've had. We arrived on a Sunday morning and every table was full. Our party of 5 was seated within 15 minutes and Autumn was friendly, knowledgeable and kept everything refreshed. Our food was freshly prepared and we'll seasoned. It was all worth the unexpectedly short wait and price. So after years of avoiding Big Apple, I decided to give them another chance since I was in the area and I was kinda burnt out on my usual places. I'm glad I did. It was a busy Saturday morning, but I was seated fairly quickly. The waitress greeted us and was very good. The dinning room seemed a bit chaotic with so many waitress constantly moving all around but it seemed to work. I looked over the large menu and decided on the Banana Nut French Toast. My mother got the Eggs Benedict. Our meals came out in less than 15 minutes and they were excellent! The Toast was to die for and the Benedict was very good. My mother loved it. My only real complaint was with the bathroom. It was rather messy and with the pandemic going on, I though it was weird that there was a trash can but no paper towels in the room so patrons could use them on the bathroom door handle. read more

I went into big Apple this morning for the first time and needless to say I was not happy and will not be returning. I came in and gave my name and the hostess told me it would be a 15 minute wait. As I sat down two groups of four people were seated before me and my friend. Why were we told 15 minutes for two people to get a seat but two groups of four were seated right away? I was the only one waiting to be seated to begin with. I am very unhappy with the customer service and when I called to talk to a manger no one answered. I ordered a steak skillet with overeasy eggs, and well done hashbrowns. I received over medium eggs and regular cooked hash browns. After about 7 minutes the server finally came back to ask how everything was? I had explained about my eggs and she began to tell me that the eggs were over easy. I dislike it when I have to use the fact I am a chef card but don't proceed to tell me how something is cooked when it clearly was not. I also explained about the hash browns she offered no solution. She did however take my eggs away and bring back the perfect cooked over easy eggs. My side of pancakes were undercooked and falling apart. This was pretty bad when the baby would not even eat it. Every time we go to Old Fashion Pancake House the baby would eat 2 pancakes. The French toast thw child had ordered was French toast. This was not made with the traditional Texas Toast it was made with regular white bread. Came out soggy and disgusting. Now one their favorite breakfast dishes now has left her with skepticism of eating this item again. Myself a child, a baby and one other were at the table and the server was no where to be found as we needed a togo container. So as we were already given our bill I went and paid the bill. When asked how everything was I explained to the host and all I got was a I'm sorry to hear that. I had to ask the host for the to go container. Which is when I noticed the server returning from the back tak ok ng off her coat. One would only assume she was out back having a cigarette. I then had proceeded to ask to speak to the owner. Which I was informed he was too busy cutting meat to stop and hear my issues. At this point I had informed the host that I will be contacting them. And with a great sarcastic loud statement from her "Have a great day!" So at this point with my disappointment at what the other adult with me favorite waffle place we will not be returning. I will however attempt to call the owner and explain to them my issues. Total bill $35 service a 1 out of 10. We had to wait several minutes to be acknowledged by them. The server we originally got was amazing, until I requested to change seats because of window draft, then our server changed. She was very inattentive... But the original servee kept checking on us and refilling my coffee. I was very very pleased with the attention and service she provided. Unfortunately, my issue came with the manager on duty... I tried to use the Yelp coupon and when I asked the server and she asked Management very loud and rudely she said "No, If its not from our website and printed we dont take them." When I asked to speak with her and show her the offer on my phone, she says rudely again " I dont know about that, we didn't sign up for that, so if you dont have a printed coupon you can't use one." We came here on a Sunday for breakfast. The best way to describe it was average at best. Slightly better than a Denny's, but honestly not worth the money. We ordered two different French toasts. They didn't come with any sides like every other restaurant does (i.e. toast, hash browns, fruit, meat, etc). The French toast was one of their specialties, but I wasn't impressed, one was special because it was large, but nothing spectacular about them. Also the pop machine was broke when we were there and they didn't have tea. So that limited our drink options. And the price was steep considering what we got. Also the bill was wrong when it came, each item on the receipt was a few dollars more than on the menu. I pointed it out to the waitress before giving my credit card, instead of fixing it the gave me cash to make up the difference on the bill, which was odd. Drove into town for a funeral and afterwards lunch was at Big Apple with our family and friends - there were at least 40 people in our party. We really could not have been any happier with the service all the way around from the time we walked in until we left. We know that a party of that size can stress out even the most experienced wait staff but they handled our visit with ease and made a very difficult day a little brighter. Every meal we ordered was correct and despite the size of our party we did not have a lengthy wait. Not one bad thing to say about the quality of food and it can definitely be described as comfort food. After the meal we had heaping plates of fruit for each table and every bit of it was fresh, cold and delicious.
