These bowls are addicting ! They are very generously portioned , (still pricey but this is to be expected with acai bowls) and the flavor is top notch. Today's the soft opening and hours are 11-4pm, but they opened five minutes before 11am to accommodate the SoulCycle Georgetown University crowd and yoga crowd. This location is strategically located with yoga and cycle studios nearby and thus all the shops benefit or become feeders to each other. Amir and company got through the throng of SoulCyle spinners in a jiffy. I thought it would take a long time to get my order but it did not. Service times were great despite the SoulCycle or yoga surge. Regarding the warrior bowl, it was awesome. Pros: - smoothie bowls are delicious and healthy. They put a decent amount of fresh fruit and granola in the bowls. I got the Cali bowl, which was an acai mixture with soy milk so not too sweet and add granola bananas and blueberries on top. It was the perfect amount of sweetness for me and enjoyed it a lot - good amount of seating with large communal tables and individual seating in a bar area along the windows - outdoor seating for when it's warm out! Cons: - pretty expensive for the amount of food you get. $10-$12 for bowls and even more for their smoothies and juices - it is super loud in here! With the blenders on and loud music, I found it hard to concentrate and work. Many people/students are working here though, so maybe it's just me! Would definitely recommend trying their bowls! As someone who loves Grace St Coffee, it was in due time that I tried South Block. I love the idea of having a coffee shop, mixed with a juice bar, and even a farm-to-table restaurant as well. If you haven't been to the little complex on Grace St, I would recommend that you give it a shot. Its the perfect spot for health nuts, as they have so many health conscious options in one place. Often times my biggest complaint with coffee shops is the lack of healthy choices. As someone who is sensitive to gluten & sugar, it can be hard to find a place where I can also get a snack. This changes the game for sure. When I first tried South Block, I got the 'caveman' bowl. I am sensitive to bananas, therefore I got my base sans banana. Honestly this does change the way a bowl tastes, so I usually adjust my review for that fact. The caveman bowl came with granola, blueberries, strawberries, and coconut on top. The base was nice and refreshing, but there was a lack of flavor overall. Next time I visit I will add some form of nut butter, because that usually aids in a huge flavor adjustment. Also - the portion size is HUGE. Definitely could share one bowl between two, people, as I could not even finish half of mine, before becoming full. It's a classic acai bowl with strawberries, blueberries, banana and granola. The pineapple juice in the base is just the right amount of sweet. You can also add chia seeds or honey as you wish. I like how they put the chia seeds in a squeeze bottle, so easy and convenient! I took one star off because they are wasting so much product!!! I did a little part time job at a smoothie shop back in college and we were taught to hit the side of the blender with our palms as we are filling up the bowls/cups. This ensures that you get everything that might be stuck on the bottom without damaging the blender. While waiting 15 minutes for my smoothie bowl, I realized that none of the employees actually did that. Instead of going into our bowls, they are going down the drain. It just sucks to see this happening. Hope it was just a busy day for them. Overall, nice spot shared with sundevich and Grace Street Coffee. Magic dragon bowl is my favorite since it isn't açaí but uses pitaya and gogi berries which are my favorite. This location only does the large size which is bummer since sometimes those bowls are pretty large. They also usually have a pretty long line on Saturday's (expect to wait like 30 min). There are varieties of acai bowl as well as dragon bowl (dragon fruit) which is rare in DMV area. Staff wise, they are okay, which is why a star was taken away. They aren't as friendly as the union market location and sometimes they can be sloppy while throwing toppings on the bowl... But it's okay unless you want an IG worthy acai bowl photo. I am so glad I gave this place a second chance. My first visit was lackluster- I forget the exact bowl I got but it felt... wet, melted, like a slurry of ingredients in a soup. I came back on a hot day hoping things would be better, and to my happy surprise, it was! I ordered the PBJ bowl and it was absolutely delicious. The texture felt more like a smoothie than melted mush, and the flavors were phenomenal. Plenty of fresh fruit on top, and even distribution of delicious granola on the inside. The gentlemen at the counter was very polite and upbeat, even when I could tell they had lots of online orders that morning. The bowl kept me feeling full and satisfied until DINNER.
