This is a hidden gem, considering the part of San Antonio this is in. Parking lot is VERY small and with a steep entry. Building looks a little sketchy from the outside, but so does everything else around here. Seat yourself and grab a menu on entering. This is a mom-and-pop shop, which I love. Both of them buzz around like bees between serving and cooking. The kitchen door never stopped moving. Menu is focused. Although I'm usually a fan of pho, I opted instead for a noodle dish. Yowsa! I constantly hear the battle cry for patrons to eat and shop locally. Which indelibly leads us miles away from our homes. I have a challenge for you. Try, in this given year to frequent a place maybe minutes from you. I am surrounded by spots I have never tried before. I am guilty of passing up a business based on its facade. Soups & Rolls definitely fits in this category. As I stated in my last review some of the best flavors in the city reside in the most precarious places. This place, which provides flavorful Vietnamese and Chinese fare is no different. It is another place in the Westside that quietly makes fantastic food. It used to be a Central American restaurant but in this area nothing is permanent. When I went the mistake was parking in the back. Not a problem, as I went to the proper entrance. In my opinion the age of Instagram and Tik Tok has aided bias on the part of the patron. Customers are seeking places that have an ambience to document their experiences. Via photoworthy posts on social media or selfies. So much so the meal becomes secondary or an afterthought. If you are expecting a giant dragon with waterfalls or a modern lighting that highlights the room you will not find it. Its table and seating is very humble, as the owners. We sat down and one of the friendly servers took our orders. Their menu is extensive with pho, lemongrass chicken, spring rolls etc. In addition they do carry some Chinese dishes in case you aren't into Vietnamese fare. But what cruel human being wouldn't be? I have always wanted to try a bahn mi for the longest time.. The thing is I'm not into pork. The owner suggested a beef one. I ordered that and a mango boba tea. My partner ordered spring rolls and a bowl of vermicelli. No sooner was I looking at the tiger painting on their wall did all food items arrive. Everything was hot and fresh. The bahn mi was gigantic. It was a huge french hoagie roll stuffed with beef, carrots and cilantro. I must confess I'm not a fan of cilantro but it fit here perfectly. The meat was tender and flavorful. It came with accompanying fries. I tried my partner's spring rolls and they were some of the best I have ever had. The rolls were fried with an equally flavorful filling. In addition the mango boba was really good. I like the consistency of mine to be thick. If I stick my straw into the boba and it stands straight up I know it is good. The chef came from the kitchen to check on us. He tried to explain that the bahn mi and the torta are very similar. But then again most cuisines share a commonality. I understand people's hesitancy to try a place in precarious neighborhoods. I implore you to try a place in your locale. If not, and you are up for an adventure please check out "Soups & Rolls" in the Westside. The service and food are both excellent. Next time I'm getting that big bowl of Pho with extra Sriracha sauce. First, I have to learn how to properly pronounce it. read more

Great service, the pepper steak was tasty. The onions and peppers in the dish were fresh. The hot and sour soup was the perfect consistency, not too sour. Crab Rangoon was also very good. Not greasy, and not overfilled. Pork dumplings were good, but not something I'd order again. The combination Pho was stellar. The broth was very flavorful, one of the best I've had in town. I usually skip local pho joints because, honestly, the quality around here is generally disappointing. But today, after waking up from a nap with an intense craving, I decided to take a chance. I found a recommendation for a new spot on a local Facebook group and drove over. ​I ordered the steak and brisket pho with extra brisket. Even before the bowl arrived, I could tell this place was dedicated to quality. The garnish plate was immaculate--the bean sprouts and greens were incredibly fresh. Glancing at the next table, the presentation of their dishes was just as well done and everything looked vibrant. ​The pho itself was phenomenal. The broth was perfectly executed--rich and flavorful. I was so impressed that I had to ask the waitress who the chef was. She proudly told me her husband was the cook, and he hails from Southern Vietnam (which explains the distinction in flavor, as Southern-style pho is noticeably different from Northern-style). ​Long story short, I'm absolutely impressed! Wow I passed this place up many times now I can't believe what I've been missing. And right on my neck of the woods or should I say the barrio. Yes Sir they got Pho here and trust me it is GOOD. Ordered 2 Beef combination Phos 1 seafood Pho 1 child's steak Pho When kids say it's good they don't lie. I've/We've had many Phos and this hit the spot good. Broth has a nice delicate rich flavor, I can taste the star anise and cinnamon coming through the rich bold flavors. A lot of places make them with a light settle flavor in the broth. I found that the release of fat from the contents of the meat elevates the flavor in the broth omg. My daughter loved her seafood Pho as that choice I'll be picking for myself sometime in the near future again. Kids pho was excellent and filling, more than enough for anyone under 10yrs of age. Owner took a little time to talk to us, I'm very excited to come back as I will BE sooner than later. I want to try other things in their menu. Place is kept clean and cozy. Started with shrimp spring rolls that went great with the slightly spicy peanut sauce. Just wow. I get it now, the name is a paradox. Soups & Rolls, just that, Soups & Rolls, all day just Soups & Rolls. Then, you eat at Soups & Rolls and then it's like aahhhhh Soups & Rolls. Got their brisket & meatball pho along with some spring rolls and a Thai tea, and now I know what the big deal is. Their seemingly simple name of Soups & Rolls belies the complexity and vast deliciousness that they've been able to pack into seemingly simple foods, which end up being full of Umaminity. I've been to other Vietnamese restaurants and they dont even come close to being this good. The service was very welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious. Like I said in another review. It's a small quaint location but the food is really tasty! They have a wide selection on their menu but I've tried both their Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. I always order Togo and service is great! The orange chicken & lemon chicken is delicious! It's a top favorite for me. Good portion sizes, great prices and this Asian food doesn't put me for a heavy nap after. They seem to use quality products and that's why this is a top Togo place for me. I did try the coffee boba and taro and the coffee was too sweet and Taro tasted nice but boba was off. read more

My lunch spot for pho was randomly closed today and I refused to have anything else. I read the Google and Yelp reviews for Soups & Rolls which were good but I'm always weary of places with low reviews. I'm glad I took the chance today. The steak pho was so good. I also ordered the shrimp spring rolls which I think I have a favorite peanut sauce now. It wasn't too creamy but also had a spice. Also ordered Mongolian chicken which was good. I wish I would asked more questions but looked like a husband and wife running the place but even still, we didn't wait too too long. The pho was worth the wait. It's a very small place and the ac was struggling against this Texas heat but I want so much for establishments like this to thrive and get the facility updates they need. I've been looking for delicious pho near the downtown area, and I think I finally found it! I recently discovered Soups & Rolls through Uber Eats, and after reading their Yelp reviews I decided to give them a chance. For my first time, I ordered their Pho Ga and also their Vietnamese Spring Rolls. The packaging of both items was perfection, and they included all the necessary sides. The taste of the broth was perfection! All the flavors were on point and it was definitely what I was looking for. I didn't get a chance to try the spring rolls since my husband got to them first, but he said they were amazing so I'll take his word on that. Soups & Rolls will definitely become one of my go-to pho places from now on! read more

OMG where do I start?! First I love me a quiet, clean, fresh restaurant! I came in around 2pm and it was no one here and I loved it (I just like quiet time). Met some of my friends who work at OLLU for lunch and being that any Asian options are non-existent on this side of town this place piqued my interest. Oh my gosh when I say that the food was delicious, thats an understatement. It's a small unassuming and cozy place, the waitress was lovely and polite and their menu has so much variety, pho, banh mi, Chinese and Vietnamese selections and the price point is excellent. Best wishes to this little joint as it's much needed in the hood and I hope they continue to thrive and remain as a staple around these parts! The location is definitely a hole in the wall, very easy to miss if you're not familiar with the area. Soups and Rolls is located next to the hotel I was staying at, so I decided to give them a try to satisfy a craving for Pho. I ordered the Fresh Vietnamese Rolls (spring rolls) and Pho Seafood (with mussels, squid and shrimp). The rolls were nicely packed with vermicelli noodles, lettuce, halved shrimp and a few slices of pork. The peanut dipping sauce was a nice blend of sweet and savory. The rolls were nice and fresh, and almost satisfying on their own. The Pho Seafood had a nice broth and came with the accompanying bean sprouts, basil, lime, sliced jalapenos and sriracha sauce. The noodles and sliced onions were plentiful, the seafood not so much. There were three pieces of squid, four tail on shrimp and 4 small mussels, for the price of the Pho a few more pieces of seafood would've really made the dish a wow. Take out is quick and the service is friendly. It's not the tastiest or best Vietnamese food I've had, but for a quick fix it'll do. read more

Food - we had beef brisket meatballs and tendon Pho, grilled beef with fried rice, side steamed veggies and Vietnamese fried spring rolls and a mango boba tea. The pho is a good choice if you want something hot and soupy. On point with the side plate of bean sprouts, sliced jalepenos, lime and basil sprig. The Pho was plentiful of beef brisket, two meatballs sliced in half and a few pieces of the soft tendon. The noodles were cooked al dente and the white onions were simmering in the soup base. The sliced grill beef with fried rice was tasty. Oddly they sprinkled sesame seeds but I guess it's their version. Skip the spring rolls. They were over fried. Otherwise this hole and the wall is a good go to joint. There are 12 tables and very homey feels like a hidden gem. Sorry by the time I finished the food I didn't take any pics. I have finally found Chinese food comparable to NYC! Last night on my way home from an errand, I decided to give it a try. I pulled in to an empty parking lot but before I could get in, another car pulled in. I walked in and grabbed a menu to start looking, I had already looked online but still wanted to see the real menu. I got the dinner portion of the sesame chicken with fried rice and an egg roll and I got a side of the cream cheese Rangoon's. The chicken was delicious - the sauce tasted like more of a sweet n sour sauce but still oh so yummy. The fried rice seemed to me to be more of a Spanish rice then fried rice but it was still delicious. And the cream cheese Rangoon's? Those were AMAZING!! This place definitely has a fan in me and I will be back to see them or order delivery. I am right down the street and I don't know what has taken me so long.
