As an aside, I have been battling roof rats (at considerable expense) for the 7 years I've owned my home. Our gutters were in terrible shape and needed to be replaced. November 2022 I contacted two highly rated companies. One company never returned my call. Fritz of Sound Gutters and Roofing called me back within an hour and scheduled an estimate within several days. The estimate was fair and included Leaf Relief gutter guards which we decided we needed. Fritz was a couple weeks out but ended up having an opening so was able to come sooner. Fritz and Derik did a beautiful job and left the yard looking better than before. It has been 4 months and lots of heavy wind and rain and they look terrific. Rave!! Excellent. Fritz and his team came gave me an estimate; arrived as scheduled to replace rusted flashing. They measured and left a quote that day. We scheduled the work for the next week. They arrived a few minutes early to perform the flashing installation. It looks wonderful! They noticed a rotting board on my fascia which was brought to my attention. I could see the hole when pointed out. I would have never noticed that or repaired the issue. No pressure for them to fix it for an exorbanant price. They did a great job! Would hire them again. Water cascaded off the roof by-passing the gutters due to roof angles. Some type of "brick" (hard foam?) was placed at the crux of the angle to guide water to the gutter. An apparently easy fix, no climb upon the roof necessary, that cost more than $300.00. The fellow did arrive as scheduled which often is not the case with folks in my experience. read more

A local business providing great service, and a great guy worth supporting. I picked Sound Gutter and Roofing based on information from the BBB website when we were having some issues with a leaky roof. Fritz (the owner) was very prompt in returning my calls, and was able to make it out the same day to make repairs. When we got the first big rain after repairs were done, we still had a little water getting in. I called Fritz and he was back at the house in less than 1/2 hour. He was very concerned that he find the problem and completely fix it. He even refused to let me pay him anything for coming back out! Fritz called after the next couple of rainy days just to make sure that we didn't have any more problems. Let me paint a scene for you: Slumbering in our mid-century rambler, which has now been in the family for 4 generations when you count our new baby, surrounded by rhodies and camellia trees, lovingly planted by my husbands grandmother and awaiting the spring to burst into bloom, we were jarred from sleep by the discordant, barely concealed hostility of two gutter installers who inform my husband they simply do not get along. I watch from the shelter of the house, a new mother, as these men gesture angrily at one another, thinking to myself, "Where is my sage? I'm going to have to purify the house when these guys leave." A while later I'm told they have to trim some limbs to access the gutters and complete the installation. More unease sets in, settling deeper in my bones. I am a master gardener, you see. I prune pine trees, roses, shrubs, tomatoes and fruit trees for fun, as well as profit. I am one of those people who resents the falling night because I can't artfully shape healthy plants with my trusty shears in the dark (well, not safely. I have tried...). Stuck indoors in cold weather with a new baby, I appeal silently to the protective spirits of gardening. Later the sun shines out and we head out for a family walk. The sight that meets my learned- and picky- eyes is one of green, leafy carnage. Piles of limbs litter all sides of the house. Trees over 60 years old, passed into my hands by fate to shape and care for have been defaced. Indiscriminate heading cuts batter my sensitive eyes and my poor trees. Holes hacked into carefully pruned spring beauties for angry men to tromp through now greet our eyes when we open the blinds in morning. A lovely leather-leaf viburnum, 12 feet high for privacy hacked apart simply because someone didn't want to stoop a bit, wasn't even next to the house. And worse? I had grafted and planted an apple espalier, lovingly training it for the last 2 years, with over 13 varieties of uncommon and heirloom apple varieties along the west side of the house that now have a downspout draining directly on top of my double-grafted, red-fleshed, heirloom varietals (a Red Valentine and Pink Pearl combo, if you're interested). Essentially they have ruined all my labor, in terms of my espalier and destroyed the careful years of CORRECT pruning on very old evergreen trees and destroyed my dream of installing a rain barrel to feed the espalier. Had I had any notice whatsoever- say, during the quote process- I would have pruned my trees myself, in a professional manner during the nearly 2 months they were scheduling out. So. The second star is because the gutters seem fine, despite being poorly placed and the job cost was cheap. read more
