Got my roof installed last month. I researched the heck out of roofing companies in the Puget Sound Area and received 3 bids from companies that came up in my search. A better Roofing company was no frills and significantly lower in price and they didn't upsell. After the roof was installed, I hired an independent roofing consultant /inspector to inspect it (cost $500) since I wouldn't know what mistakes or corrections that would be need (if any) and i'm not an expert in roofing. Total experience was great. We had gotten an estimate about 6 years ago and we're finally able to get a replacement this year. Daniel gave us an updated estimate and came out to discuss it further and was both nice and knowledgeable. . We decided they had the the best value with the combination of price, experience, reputation, and products used. Scheduling communications were handled excellently by Christian. The day of the crew arrived and went to work and worked hard until the job was done. We have a lot of plants and landscaping and they took care to make sure nothing was disturbed and clean-up was quick and thorough. We are sorry we used them and it has costs us. A Better Roofing Company installed our roof 13 years ago. The job was done quickly and the roof looked great. Three years ago we noticed the front half of the roof was caved in. We checked the attic and found a collapsed portion of the roof. The roof was installed over the old decking. They charged us for new decking but did not install it. They also told us they would cut out a vent over our stove to allow for a hood to be placed in our kitchen. None of that was done and we have had issues with leaks since the other half was replaced. We called A Better Roofing Company to come look at the damage. They came out and did some water tests and found that the water damage occurred because of their poor work. They replaced the front half of the roof even though our 10 year warranty had just expired. We had to press them to do the right thing. We've still had leaks crop up since they replaced that other half. This roof should have lasted at least 15+ years. Very disappointed and it is costing us a lot to correct these issues. read more

SO IMPRESSED!!!! WOW!! From start to finish so happy with the service of A Better Roofing Co. Alan was our sales rep that came out to give us our bid, show us roofing samples & schedule our job. Materials & dumpster were delivered Wednesday. Workers arrived at 9 am Thursday. By noon they had the 3 layers of old roofing ripped off the back of the house. They had the new plywood & tar paper installed by 2 and then worked the next 3 hours in the rain putting down the roofing material. Friday morning the rain continued so we did not expect them to show up. Saturday (this morning) they were here bright and early again at 9am. They were completely done by 5pm! The workers all busted ass & were amazing! We bought them pizza for lunch because we were so impressed by their work. They did a great clean up job including using a magnet to look for lost nails in the yard & a leaf blower to clean up our deck & front yard. read more

I think the service is reliable, but the day of the service and the following day, I'm not sure what to expect. Of course, I have to go to work, and I assume the work will be done. They don't tell me when they are going to arrive, when they will be finished, or when the final dumpster run will happen. So far, I haven't seen the roof (I leave and return when it's dark: winter in Seattle), but communication about when someone or other will be in my property is lackluster at best. read more

From quote to finished roof A Better Roofing Company did an excellent job. They started the job two days earlier than expected and completed it in the estimated two days. They worked nearly constantly the entire time they were here....no disappearing and reappearing as some contractors have done. They stuck with the job until it was completed.They cleaned up their mess completely. I have not seen any damaged to plants or shrubs. One small niggle was they didn't give us much notice (same day) that the materials were being delivered, but it wasn't a big deal. We obtained bids from three roofing companies to reroof our house and garage. A Better Roofing Company (ABRC) had received a good recommendation from one of our neighbors and came in with the most aggressive offer. No deposit required! Work was begun the following week. The crew toiled from dawn to dusk with minimal break and completed the project in two days. Additional lumber was needed to replace rotting wood on the garage. Workmanship was of high quality and the charge for the additional material and labor was quite reasonable. The only casualty was one of our garden shrubs; an adjustment was made on our bill during the final walk-through to cover the cost of a replacement. Very easy process from start to finish. 5 Big stars for A Better Roofing! As renters, we had the pleasure of working with Michael and his crew during the repair of not only a leaking roof, but also the replacement of 4 skylights. Throughout the process, everyone that came to the house was professional and understanding. Michael was very considerate to the fact that this work was a major inconvenience to us as renters and having to live in the house while the project was being completed (our landlords would not pay for alternate housing). His management of his crew was top notch and he was also very responsive to questions that we had and did his best to make sure that the work was done properly and timely. He moved schedules around and made sure he got people to the house sooner than usual, just to make sure we were not disrupted any more than we had to be. The workers he had on the job were polite and very caring to us. Their front office team is also very respectful and kind. Willing to listen and accommodate schedules, answer messages and call back in a reasonable time frame, and get messages to those we were trying to reach. We were very pleased with the work done and the professionalism and courtesy that everyone at A Better Roofing gave us. I have a detached garage built in 1930 that was in poor repair. I selected A Better Roofing to replace the flat roof. Their estimate was in the middle of the estimates. I selected them, in part, because they had done a good job replacing the roof on the house about 10 years ago. Prior to starting the job, the estimator and I had reviewed the state of the sheathing/shiplap and had agreed that some of the shiplap would need to be replaced as there was obvious rot. This was to be done on a time and materials basis as the extent of the rot would be known once the old roof was stripped off. The rot was more extensive than expected and had compromised some of the joists. The crew replaced the joists, replaced the shiplap with plywood. the work was well done and I am very happy with the new roof. Some contractors may have just laid plywood over the rotted wood. A Better Roofing's crew did the job right. read more

This is a family-owned company that has a work-ethic, is honest (they don't gouge you on a bid - fair bids), responsible and decent. Christian excels at running the office. Alex is the crew manager and excels at that too. All three have great communication, understand all the issues, and manages anything that can go wrong, are friendly/personable and professional. UPDATE 7/30/2019 After refusing an offer from ABR of $1000 to take down my Yelp review (totally in violation of Yelp Agreements) as well as a BBB complaint. I did agree to a "courtesy discount" to compensate for repairs of the damages resulting from their assault on my property. ABR was ridiculous, defensive, clueless and a bit slow on the uptake throughout the process but finally made adjustment$. To Scott, Michael et. al.- consider this: If you are truthful, respectful of your customers' property, provide timely, appropriate information and contact info, treat all with courtesy- then you may not have to spends months and months conjuring up slanted defenses to justify the slimy, creepy and bullying behaviors by your staff and managers. Should you opt to repeat the disgusting treatment you delivered to me, you may very well be (and deserve to be) fodder for consumer awareness workshops, Social Media as well as endure the wrath of those mistreated. You get to decide...... To consumers I say: ABR although unwilling to accept responsibility may have learned something from this experience. To be specific, that customer satisfaction is not "normed" or averaged if you are on the receiving end of foul treatment. It is often determined by service delivered on a case by case and situational basis. You may only get one chance to impress! Perhaps my experience with ABR (although a total customer service failure) is not their true culture/standard. But just in case- beware and use caution!! The salesman Paul was prompt, friendly and gave us the best options for our needs. The installers were amazing! There wasn't a minute wasted and they tore off and installed most of our roof in a day. The next day, one guy came out and fine tuned the install and it looks great! Hi, A Better Roofing replaced our roof 12 years ago. It took two days and they cleaned up our yard and we had no issues. It was almost like a non-event because the project was so smooth. Our roof looked great and has been solid ever since. This winter with the heavy rains I discovered water coming into the house via a bathroom exhaust. I didn't want to be clambering up there on the roof -- I wasn't sure if A Better Roofing even does work like that but reached out to say hey, former customer, do you do this or can you recommend someone? I worked with Teresa to set an appointment for the following business day, and Michael came out to the house and climbed up there. He gave me advice about our moss (the culprit) and and applied a fix to the bathroom vent exhaust. He came down off the roof and said if there's any more trouble let him know and started climbing in the car. I said "We'll settle up over email then?" and he said, "No, it just took me a few minutes. I had my professional office building reroofed by ABRC and they did an amazing job. Before redoing the roof, I was working with a different roofer to take care of some leaks. That roofer failed over and over again to diagnose or fix it properly. When I finally asked the old roofer for a bid for a new roof, it came in significantly higher than ABRC. The day of roofing started exactly as scheduled. The ABRC team that reroofed worked extremely hard. They protected windows, picked up and disposed all garbage, cleaned the parking lot, and did a beautiful job on the roof itself. I engaged A Better Roofing Company after a reasonable search online for a local company with a pretty darned good track record. Such was the case with me - the estimate was thorough and somewhat expected as to price. The actual work was scheduled in coordination with me as to dropping off the materials and the actual start of roof replacement. Everything the Better Roofing company crew did was a live-action example of perfect efficiency and timing. Right when it was time for the debris to be hauled away - the truck with attached dumpster arrived, was loaded with debris, and left. The replacement roof is superlative - as was indicated in the estimate - the roof and its associated plywood, waterproof membrane, and shingles was finished in 180 minutes - an exceptional job in an exceptionally short time. The roofing crew itself was good and done in one day, the management was a different story altogether. They finished up around 6PM on Friday, but left the debris dumpster blocking access to my garage. Repeated calls and texts to Michael went unanswered until around 9PM. His response was to laugh at my predicament and threaten to sue me if I had the dumpster moved. The dumpster blocked access to my garage all weekend, leaving me unable to get my motorcycle out for planned trip. I would strongly advise against using this roofing company. read more

Unlike some commentators, I had a very good experience with this company. I had four estimates done, and theirs came in comparable to all but one company (who shall remain nameless) that wanted double the amount and said that I would have to have all the plywood sub-roofing replaced because the color viewed from the attic looked "off." ABR and the other two assured me the sub-roofing was fine, though a few sheets might need replacing. I was very impressed with my initial contact as the ABR service rep gave a very thorough and understandable explanation of all the detail work they do. The other three just glossed over things. I was also swayed by ABR being in business for so long with the original family owners. They do not require a down payment and the customer pays nothing until the job is finished and after a final inspection. The job was done in one day as promised and looks good. This company (or maybe just this job) suffered from lack of experience and communicationl. I used them many years ago and both the communication and roofing job was first rate. Our recent roofing experience was much less satisfying. I'm imparting this early and will update after our first few rains. Here's our initial experience: 1) We have a large mast with guide wires due to a long run out to the grid. A Better never asked for attic access and that made me curious. After the installation, I asked the lead how they bolted the guide wires back and he said they didn't. The just pushed the screws back in and tarred them over. I climbed up in the attic and sure enough they wiggled quite freely being unbolted. 2) The initial lead mast replacement cover was surely the ugliest in all Washington. It was seriously hideous. The first thing you see as you approach our house is this horrible lead and tarred over mast cover replacing a once a very attractive, low profile donut shaped cover. 3) A large bolt has been pushed through the ceiling into our living room. I can't imagine not seeing this, but am not a roofer, so perhaps these things just happen. The crew left without saying anything, so we weren't sure what the next steps were. After calling and imparting the above, ABR did come out and fix the points listed above. The roofing job itself looks quite good, we're happy with that. But don't think I would recommend them based on our experience. read more

I had an excellent experience with A Better Roofing Co. Our house was built in the 20's with the last major renovation being sometime in the 60's. It was a rental for the last 10 years or so, and everything seems to have been patched together in a handyman special kind of way. Long story short, we reached the end of life for the roof this spring. I put the job out to bid to 3 companies, and A Better Roofing was not only the lowest price, but they included more in the base cost (for example, fees for permits, dumpster, etc were part of the base cost, certain kinds of flashing, etc) which were extras for the other companies. Being an old house with a big concern being rotted wood, I asked the sales rep (Alan, who was excellent!) the best way to handle it, and he assured me time & materials was the way to go. He was upfront with me and said he *could* price out the wood ahead of time, but the way estimators work is they take what they can see, double it, then double it again. But if we go time & materials, they will only charge for what they use. They did have to replace a lot of wood on the sub-roof, but it only came out to a few hundred dollars more than the original estimate. And it STILL only took them 2 days to complete the job! 3 guys arrived at 7:30/8:00 each day. The first day they worked until 8:15 PM, the next day until 3:30, and they were done. No debris in the yard, I haven't found a single nail, the roof looks amazing, and I couldn't be happier. I also checked them out on Angie's list, and they are a preferred angie's list contractor with an A+ rating (best you can get). They have a client list of about 9 pages long, single spaced, double sided of roofs they've done, and they guarantee their work with a warranty that is transferable to the next owner of the house. No one else I called did that. Lot's of pluses for "A Better". Definitely put them on your short list of contractors for a new roof. Always get multiple quotes, but ask for one from these guys. They did an amazing job at my house. read more

Although they agreed to do the roof and work through the complicated 203(k) process, they decided at the last minute not to follow through due to some legal paper work required for the specific loan. Our home inspector had said we'd need a new roof in the next couple of years. The rains of November had something else to say, like "Hey, your garage is leaking." We bit the bullet and called the first company I had seen working in the neighborhood. A nice rep from A Better Roofing came out to take a look and give us an estimate. It was less than I thought something like this should cost, not that I've ever priced a roof before. Put it this way, it cost about what Lindsay Lohan spends on a handbag. Our job was scheduled about 4-6 weeks out, and it was completed in two days. That's it. TWO days. We had a tiny problem with something in our yard getting damaged, and they immediately sent someone out to inspect and then made us a very fair deal. We could not have been happier. They provided many references and locations of other jobs which we did scout out to confirm the color we'd chosen. They've done a ton of work across the Seattle area. Due to incoming weather, our roof was stripped and installed in one day. The crew were great. Our lawn, plants and new fencing were carefully protected. When I asked if they could point me in the right direction for repair they told me to google it. Btw, I did google it, and their name was near the top of my results. The first I heard from them was a message about a week ago that was a request that I remove my review. My review was originally posted in November 2016 about their unwillingness to help with repairs; I can't speak to the actual work they do. Our roof was quite old and we were starting to see places where water was beginning to stain our ceiling. We had a couple of contractors come look at the roof and had a variety of estimates. (Always amazes me that there can be SUCH a discrepancy in price!) We went with A Better Roofing because they were straight forward in their communication, returned our calls (pretty basic thing but a lot of companies didn't, even after they had spent the time to come out and do an estimate) and told us that they would only charge us for the under boards that needed to be replaced instead of putting replacement of all of them into our estimate. They showed up the day before to offload their materials and were done before I got home from work the next day! (OK, I have a small roof but still!) Their cleanup was better than any other contractor I've worked with and that's saying a lot when you realize that they took off all of the old shingles before the new roof install. Service you can trust, workmanship you can rely on. About ten years ago we had A Better Roofing Company tear off the old roof and put on a new one in our home in Lake Hills. They stayed on quote, they cleaned up after their work, and worked with us as the payment had to come from escrow as we closed on the house. Fast forward to this fall and that home is now a rental property for us. The roof sprang a leak. I called to ask if they could help and not only did they respond promptly, remember the original job but they came out quickly and gave us a fair price for fixing (it is a flat roof, and we were just outside the warranty).
